This book had a lot of promise, but the lead character was just awful. The author expects readers to believe such complete stupidity? Sorry, but I just don't get it.

Fantastic thrilled fast paced I enjoyed it so much this book kept me guessing from start too finish this is worth a read
The characters are well developed but they are are not very likeable
It is a twisty rollercoaster of a book
The setting is magnificent and the descriptions make you believe that you are there.
Wow, this book is absolutely nothing I expected! Just as soon as you settle into the book, you are bowled over by a twist, and I did NOT see that ending coming!
The Wife’s House is a novel written by Arianne Richmonde. It was originally published on August 24th, 2020 by Bookouture. I was able to obtain an Advance Review Copy (ARC) of the book on NetGalley for free in exchange for an honest review.
The book is promoted as a psychological thriller centered around the ‘wife’ in question, and she is never named throughout the book. She is a recent widow, with her husband passing away 6 months before the beginning of the novel in a car accident. Before he passed, he bought her a glass house that sits on a cliff side, and is her sanctuary as she is trying to navigate this new life without her partner.
The plot of the novel begins to push along when 3 siblings come to her house and claim that this is the house they grew up in before they had to give it up and move for their ailing mother’s health. She feels sympathy for them, and before she knows it, she has invited them to live with her so she is not alone and they have a place to stay. Between weeks of drinking herself numb and her growing relationship with the siblings, everything that she knows about herself, her husband, and the ownership of the home is drawn into question and she begins to question her own sanity.
I really enjoyed this book at the beginning of the novel, but I did have a hard time finishing it. There were a lot of twists and turns, maybe even too many. It even started to become a little unbelievable by the time the storm happens, and I won’t say more so as to not spoil the ending. I did become frustrated with the main character at times, and like I said, the possibility of scenarios starts to come into question.
Overall, I give the book 3/5 stars, mostly for the enjoyment at the beginning of the novel. I would only recommend this novel for fans of the psychological thriller genre, but to also read it with caution.
A great read, full of tension and twists. This is my second book from the author. Really looking forward to seeing more from the author.
This is a good psychological thriller but you do have to just go with it as the storyline is not very believable.
When Juan dies unexpectedly in a horrific car crash, he leaves his wife and beloved home behind.
We never find out ‘the wife’s’ name.
When strange things begin happening around her and she gets a message saying she’s being watched, she begins to wonder if someone is after her.
Then she meets the triplets and discover that they used to live in Cliffside. They say their mother is dying and they have nowhere to live so she invites them to stay as she’s very lonely.
This I found very unbelievable and some of the events that take place after this are quite ridiculous.
However, I’ll put this aside as I suppose some people really are this guillible and to be fair it does then get interesting as I was keen to know how she’s get the house back from them.
A good thriller overall but a bit too unbelievable for me.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
A captivating book set in the Big Sur where imagination alone in its setting is endless. There is a lot in this book that leads to character development and plenty of thrills. Engaging and even a life lesson or 2 about trust. Would highly recommend
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love thrillers, they are my comfort zone so I've read a lot of them in the past few years. Arianne Richmonde did a great job at keeping me on the edge of my seat and making me question things. I did think that the beginning of the book was a little slow but that is something I can easily get over if the rest of the book is decently paced. The characters were decent and well portrayed and written, but not extremely likable which again isn't that big of a deal for me if there are some qualities that I enjoy about them. All in all, though this was a nice little rollercoaster of a ride and I look forward to future books by this author.
This book was incredible.
I literally had my heart in my mouth when reading this book.
I loved the storyline. It had me hooked from the very first chapter
The storyline was beyond twisty. The second twist. Wow!!!!
There is so much going on in this book.
It was absolutely incredible and I cannot recommend enough
Sorry to say that this was disappointing. The cover was what intrigued me, along with the plot synopsis, but gosh, I could not stand the main character! I also almost did not even finish this and got very frustrated even picking it back up. About all I enjoyed was the setting.
The wife’s house by Arianne Richmond
Newly widowed and grieving for her husband, the English narrator (I’m sure you never learn her name) is struggling to cope in her huge glass house ‘Cliffside) at Big Sur, California.
Whilst walking the grounds she sees three figures on the beach; who she later discovered on her property.
It transpires that they (the triplets) used to live there; it was theirs family home which their mother had to sell (to her husband Juan) to pay for medical bills.
In the depths of an alcohol depression the widow finds their company comforting and this is where the real story begins….
I found this an easy read but it was a bit of a ‘slow burner’ . The story really didn’t pick up until at least 40% through the books.
I found the narrator a bit of an unlikeable character; she was weak and so easily led by everyone around her and I still can’t believe we never learnt her name.
The twists didn’t really come as a surprise however I was so caught up in the story between the narrator and the triplets Jen, Kate and Dan that I was totally blown off the scent.
I liked her English counterpart Pippa, but she was still a bit of a bitch towards her, especially with her history with Juan.
Well written and conceived, I’d have to give this 3.5 stars.
The first half of this book was VERY slow which almost discouraged me from finishing it. Overall it ended up being fairly enjoyable.
This was a bit of a slow starter and I initially found it hard to engage with the characters. However with a bit of perseverance, there are some excellent twists and turns in this book and an ending I didn’t expect.
Lots of mystery and intrigue.
New author to me and I loved the way Arianne Richmonde writes. The Wife's House was a lovely read and had everything you need to keep you interested especially as it was an easy to read, well written, all the characters to love and loathe, Plus, a good descriptions of a beautiful area, and the house, in California what more could you ask for.....I was hooked within the first few pages and I loved it
I highly recommend this new book by Arianne.
Big Thank you to Arianne Richmonde, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Wife's House which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily
This is a thriller. I have to say that this book was so very boring for the first half, and I would have DNF it if I did not get it from Netgalley. I have to say I did love the ending. I did not guess all the twist and turns. Overall I give this book three stars only because I loved the ending. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Bookouture) or author (Arianne Richmonde) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
I really, really enjoyed this book! It was gripping from the start and kept me guessing until the very end! Fantastically written! Would definitely recommend!
I would have been highly upset if I had paid money for this book. So much more should have gone into the description for this story. I thought the whole thing was utterly ridiculous.
The cover of this one is gorgeous and I feel like the house itself is as much of a character as the physical ones !
I really enjoyed the first 3/4’s of the book although very very wordy !!
Pacing was decent, character development acceptable and engaging and the plot totally working and I was on board !
Loved how the location and isolation of the house played up a sort of gothic theme !
Hints were dropped here and there about the secrets that the wife was keeping! What o really wanted to know was what the heck happened to the husband !
As secrets are shared I was starting to lose interest 😩felt way too far fetched for my liking but I admit I’m very picky about my endings !
Definitely pick this one up if you’re looking for a dark thriller ;)
This book was a twisted mess of an infuriating yet captivating storyline. I found it to be a bit of a slow start, I set it down many times before finally powering through but once I got in, I did need to finish to find out what happened. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and had a few twist I didn’t figure out. The main issue I had with this book is the lack of any likable character. Every single one of them were horrendous. They were either a liar, a manipulative person, a sociopath, or just flat out gullible to the point of non-belief. The ending was a good cap, I don’t feel like I missed out on anything, it had a good definite ending that I enjoyed. Overall worth the read but not a favorite.
I was provided an ARC in exchange for my honest review via NetGalley!
