"The Wife"s House" centers around a woman and her beloved house, Cliffside. While the woman is never named, we find out that she and her husband lived a (supposedly) idyllic life in their state-of-the-art, gorgeous home build into the cliffs. After he passed away, she becomes a recluse until she starts receiving strange notes and comes across triplets who claim to have lived in the house before her. She begins to make horrible choices, and the consequences are heavy. While this book was well written, I didn't understand that choices she was making. The ending had a good twist, but I felt that so much in this book didn't make sense.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This was an interesting psychological thriller. It was quite a slow burn, up until the end where it turned into a rollercoaster. I found it to be quite predictable and bland up until 75% of the way through, after that it was fantastic.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley.
The Wife's House is an atmospheric thriller.
The wife, no name, takes in triplets to her glass house high on the cliff in Big Sur. She has recently unexpectedly become widow, me too so I can relate to how lonely, how vulnerable she would be to these 3 strangers.
Well how well could this go for her? Not well !
She was overly gullible, likes her wine and ends up being beguiled by the triplets, Dan, Jen and Kate.
I had faith in her , I had to keep reading because I sensed she would see through them, wisen up and I hoped for revenge.
Twists and turns will keep those pages turning
I am curious to go and read more of Arianne's books now.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read The Wife's House.
What a page turner!
The setting of the novel is absolutely breathtaking -Big Sur, Hearst Castle and so on, I felt like I was there enjoying the sea breeze as I read the novel.
I can't believe I read this book in one sitting, it was so gripping! I seriously couldn't believe what I was reading at times, and when I thought things couldn't get worse for the main character, they did!
Can you guess the ending? Get ready for the shock of your life!
Omg!! This was exactly what I was looking for in my next read. This was a super fast paced thriller that kept me up late reading to get to the end. Full or paranoia, suspicion, and secrecy this book is one people should be reaching for. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy of this. I look forward to reading more by this author.
I have said if several times before but I have to repeat myself once again: What a great book!
Straight from the start there were some people that I did not trust and the whole atmosphere throughout the book is downright creepy.
We are confronted once again with the fact that lonely people are easy targets for manipulators and I have to admit the manipulation was simply subtle in the beginning.
This story is a case of the main character being to trusting to see through what's going on and in my head I was yelling: 'Don't you see what they are doing???!!!' But of course that is what makes a story a good one too.
Although, in general, the story can be compared to a slowly flowing river it suddenly turns into a white water one.
I loved this book with its great structure and surprising revelations. 5 stars.
Thank you, Arianne Richmonde and Bookouture
The Wife's House is a thriller about a widow and her home, Cliffside, located in Big Sur. This widow, who is unnamed, meets a set of triplets and becomes quick friends with them. Cliffside was their home before it was hers, and so she invites them in to visit and eventually even invites them to live there with her. This widow is apparently the most gullible person ever because she makes many terrible decisions. The author ends the story with a good twist, but also includes some crazy, over-the-top action scenes. I cannot recommend this thriller due to how unbelievable it was. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.
This book is surely a page turner. Very well written. The only issue I had was how naive & gullible the widow is.
The perfect house or the perfect lie?
The moment my husband showed me Cliffside—a sleek and modern glass home perched on the edge of the jagged Big Sur clifftops—I fell in love. And right there and then I made a pact with myself. I am never leaving this house.
But when my husband was killed on the perilous roads leading up to the house, weeks after we moved in, I had a decision to make—leave the home I love and start a new life or stay and shut myself off from the world? I am never leaving this house.
As I pieced together my shattered life, my mind began to play tricks on me. Footsteps along the beach, leading to my home, then blood-red flowers left on my doorstep with a note that read Looking at you. So I retreated back to the safety of my glass refuge once again. I am never leaving this house.
But now, as I stare out of the towering windows of my perfect home, I know there is someone out there staring back. I know that they are watching my every move, waiting to make me pay for my past mistakes.
This was a suspenseful psychological thriller. There was plenty of twists and turns to keep the story moving. I found it to be a solid read
Oh my this book drove me nutty in so many ways! The author jumps right into the action which is great but I found out quickly that our protagonist does not have a name. This made me nutty! If not a name perhaps a letter, thankfully there’s not many characters so it wasn’t too distracting. Our MC and her husband, Juan, moves into a gorgeous cliff side house in Big Sur but their happiness soon becomes a nightmare. Juan is killed right outside their house, MC is adamant on staying. MC’s vices becomes clear and this made me nutty! I did like the creepiness and suspense, it’s what kept me reading! Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ebook arc. This is my honest review.
Taking place on the picturesque coast of Big Sur, in a mansion that was seemingly built from my dreams, this twisty, turny, heart-pounding, page-turning, psychological thriller had me guessing until the very end! The Wife's House is a *perfect* rainy day read.
I absolutely loved this so much that I read the whole book in 1 day. It was gripping, exciting and full of suspense. The characters were well written and totally believable, and lots of twists and turns along the way. It is the best book I have read in a long long time. Loved it!!!
I really enjoyed this twisty book.I thought it was really well written, and the atmosphere was really tense .I liked the main character although I suspected there was more to her than met the eye,but I liked the suspense of that, thinking there was going to be a twist. No spoilers but this book kept me guessing until the end .I loved it I thought the use of language was exquisite and I really can't fault it.I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a twisty thriller ..
Not a bad book , was an easy read. Interesting when she met the triplets after her husbands death and the dynamics soon changed due to her being lonely and wanting company . I did guess the ending but nevertheless it was a good book . When the dog appeared i though he we go , I have a thing about the animals always meeting an awful death so thank you for once the dog lived happily ever after . Definitely worth a read
Our lead Mrs Trujillo is mourning the loss of her husband, Juan, in the house, he gave her weeks before he died in a car accident.
She becomes increasingly troubled by strange things that start occurring around her. In her isolation and grief, she befriends triplets: Dan, Kate and Jen, who all appear to be friendly but soon a dark, uneasy undercurrent starts bubbling to the surface.
A well written, unputdownable psychological thriller, that I am happy to recommend.
I want to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and Arianne Richmonde for a pre-publication copy to review.
Wow what a thriller/mystery this book was! It kept me up reading late into the night frantically turning the pages to see what would happen next.
From the description of the characters, surreal setting and vivid plot this book is sure to keep everyone enthralled. I definitely did not predict the ending to this one.
I give this 5 out of 5 stars it’s the perfect summer or anytime read!! Thank you netgalley and publisher for the advanced copy.
This is brilliant!
I loved it from the start, from the descriptive vocabulary, to the characters & the plot.
I did work out the main twists from very early on, but this didn't stop me from enjoying the book immensely.
It's tense, exciting & thrilling almost all of the way through.
Can't wait for more from Arianne!!
3 Stars
Who is the cat and who is the mouse? There are several twists and turns in this mystery/thriller that tested my suspension of disbelief almost to the breaking point. I kept wondering how the protagonist could be so (choose your favorite adjective here) to welcome total strangers into her home and not question their identities until after they were comfortably inside. (Doesn't anybody else watch Lifetime movies?) Of course, there wouldn't have been a book without strangers at the door of the glass house at the center of the story, but I kept wishing the protagonist was smarter. Side note--we never know her name because it's never mentioned in this first person narrative. Hopefully, the author and her editor will give the protagonist a first name before the publication date.
Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Amazing!!!!! Dang. I really was impressed by this one. First off I just knew it was going to be a crazy suspense just by looking at the cover. I know you’re not supposed to do that but I was right and loved it! :)
The Wife’s House is the heart-pounding, double-crossing summer noir thriller I have been waiting for.
