A book that tells stories of IMMIGRANT women? Oh, my God. So good. I really need to say more than this? The stories are about WOMEN WHO CHANGED THE WORLD. That's enough for me. And these stories are good to tell to little girls, especially if they're children who are immigrant themselves or children of immigrant parents. But if there are not children on your life, I still reccomend to you guys to read this wonderful book.
The rebel girls books are such popular choices on the classroom book shelf. Readers adore the ability to dip in and to learn about someone and to be inspired. These stories are no exception. Children will enjoy finding heroes from their cultures and countries and no doubt, will enjoy the achievements of these remarkable women.
We love Rebel Girls books in our house so this was a no brainer. My daughters and I enjoy reading a new stripey each evening and talking about that girl or woman. We enjoyed this new iteration and can't wait for more!
I really enjoyed learning about the women featured in this book. As USAmerican, I especially appreciated learning about women who emigrated to countries outside of the US. These stories speak of courage, strength, perserverance, advocacy, and tenacity in the face of oppression and patriarchal norms. The range and diversity of the ethnic backgrounds and professions is refreshing and inspiring. I am looking forward to reading this book to my daughter when she's older.

This book introduces young readers to 100 women who were born in one country before immigrating to another. These stories include scientists, business owners, athletes (lots of athletes), and other leaders, some recognizable names and some less so. I am not the target demographic but I can see how this would be a good introduction to the idea of women who have changed their own world, and in the process, may have changed the world in different ways. I was left wanting more of many stories and not sure that others were that interesting. I would recommend for those wanting to see how we can each change our lives and those of others.
My digital review copy was not formatted well, so I did not get the images or artwork, which may have made it more enjoyable.
The title of this book is pretty self-explanatory: 100 stories about 100 awesome immigrant women. I love that each portrait of the women was done by a different woman-identifying artist (100 portraits and 70 artists). These stories are important ones, but having one page of text for a person’s life story is never enough. The intention is to spark interest in young readers and hopefully they’d read up more about these immigrant women. There were times where the story progression didn’t feel smooth enough, but I guess that is the downside of the very limited length.
While I appreciate all these stories, I did have a little issue with diversity. I can see that the author tried very hard to include as many countries of origin and destination as possible, but 63 out of the 100 stories were immigrant women who ended up moving to the US. Also, as happy as I am to see the mention of one lesbian (yes, the word “lesbian” is used, too), having only 1% being LGBTQ+ is not very reflective of the world population and I wish there were more (or pointed out if there are others in these 100 entries).
This collection is very informative, and many of the stories are incredibly wholesome. I think it works as a good introductory book for young children.
This is such an important book! I loved the previous books and this one is just as beautiful. I love learning about new people and hearing about their stories.
This the kind of book every girl should read. It sets great examples of great women who changed the world.
A wonderfully illustrated collection of mini-biographies about inspiring immigrant women who followed their dreams and changed the world. Like the other Rebel Girls books before it, it's fantastic.
This book is a part of the Rebel Girls series and it’s the first one I’ve read. I now cannot wait to read the other ones! It was amazing to learn about all these amazing women and discover their journeys. This is such an excellent idea to teach young people about important concepts, and it works for all ages. Cannot recommend this book enough!
So wonderful to hear the stories of these amazing women, who come from a variety of different backgrounds and see how they experience the world. A wonderful book for girls to remind them that they can change the world.
4.5 stars.
I've read the previous Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls books and I jumped at the chance to read this new entry with a focus on immigrant women. I loved the variety of experiences featured in this, with women moving for education, work, health, safety, opportunities, and more. Although it did feature a lot of immigrants in the USA, it also featured a variety of other countries as destinations, and it had a huge variety of home countries for the women featured. The stories were engaging and informative and definitely got me interested in histories I hadn't read before.
I docked a half star for use of the phrase "people with differing abilities" which, as a disabled woman, I find incredibly cringey. Please just call us disabled, it isn't a bad word.
Overall, I would recommend it, and I loved reading it as much as I did the previous entries.
As the previous books in this series, if we can call it a series, this book is also great. I will read it for my nieces and nephew for years to come. As well as the other books. Great women and such a lovely book,
This series is very popular in our school library thanks to a few of our teachers who read a couple of the stories and then let the kids run with it. I was excited to see this installment and was grateful to NetGalley for an early copy. What I love about these books: 1) kids can read one featured story at a time or read many 2) this volume helped me learn about immigrant women I had never heard of 3) these stories are inspirational and hopeful during a time when kids and adults can benefit greatly from such positive messaging. I am excited to share this book with my students.
So inspiring, for a one-page biography of girls who change the world. Some moved far away, some move to the country next door. But they faced their future with mettle, a skill young girls nowadays really have. Living in a harsh world of sexism, racism and other judgment, these women strive to do their best, and prove that they can.
Very motivational for young girls!
I love these types of books.
A collection of stories/information about a variety of women from all over the world for young readers.
Like others, this also features beautiful illustrations from a variety of artists.
It’s admittedly not the easiest thing to read digitally, but as this book has since been officially released, it would make a beautiful edition to any child’s library.
A great collection of stories for young girls to read. These are the stories I wished I had while growing up. Full of girls daring to be themselves unapologetically. Also, just the diversity in background and life experiences was fantastic. Looking forward to buying a copy of this for my classroom,.
Thank you to NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the next installment to the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls series, but this one is a little different from the previous ones. This one is all about women immigrants, who had to leave their homes for one reason or another and they made an impact in the lives of others. This book is targeted to a younger audience, but as a 27 year old, I enjoyed every moment I spent reading this book. It provided a lot of interesting information and told me about some awesome women who I did not know of previously. The author did an incredible job summarizing the women and their achievements. Also, the artwork is phenomenal!! I would recommend this to anyone of any age!
Just as the other two books in this series, a great way to get inspired and learn a tiny bit of someone else’s story. Of course you won’t learn the entire biography of said person, but that’s not the point, the idea is to inspire the young ones and the not so young.
I love all of the "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls" books and this one is no exception. Gorgeous illustrations and engaging stories about immigrant women who have overcome their struggles and gone on to do amazing things. Very empowering. A must have for all young girls (AND boys)!
Thank you to Rebel Girls and NetGalley for allowing me to read a pre-release of this novel. My review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
