Fix Her Up felt like a roller coaster to me. There were points where I loved the characters, Georgie and Travis, and there were points where I didn't really like either one of them. This is a older brother's best friend romance, where Georgie has a crush her whole life on Travis, a golden boy Major Leaguer who's fallen on hard times when an injury cuts his career short. Georgie proposes a fake relationship to be taken seriously by her family and the community and so Travis has a shot at a career that gets him back into baseball. Naturally, romance ensues. The sex scenes in this book are fairly explicit (and almost seem to come out nowhere versus the rest of the romance between Travis and Georgie) so this may not be the best choice for someone who prefers something more subtle. Georgie is funny and guileless, but can also come off as a sap for anything Travis. Travis tends to come off as a jerk in big portions of the book, but occasionally redeems himself. The supporting characters are mostly enjoyable, but Georgie's brother Stephen and his wife Kristin seemed a little cliche. And I love books about baseball, but was disappointed that Bailey created fake names for Major League teams because it felt like it took some of the legitimacy out of it. In general I enjoyed the story, but there wasn't enough "it" characters and moments consistently throughout the book to take this to the next level for me.
First, let's be honest about what this book is. Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey is contemporary women's lit; a romantic comedy. That said, I rate this 5/5 Stars because it's among the best books in this genre I have read. The author's multidimensional characters were all enjoyable. I loved the humorous dialogue and sibling dynamics. The perspective changes from the internal thoughts of Georgie and Travis and their inner dialogue was really entertaining. I could absolutely picture everything that happened in the story and I loved the journey of this book. I so appreciate this story and I honestly think I would read it a second time--sort of like the favorite Gilmore Girl episodes I stop to watch whenever they come on television.
Rarely do I rate books with one star, but this one barely earned that. If you're a fan of romantic comedy with unrealistic situations and characters, your review might be higher. However, between the macho, overly controlling male characters and way too many cheesy cliches in the writing (such as: a situation with as many layers as a Super Bowl Sunday dip), I was pretty much gagging my way to the end.
I do appreciate the ARC from Netgalley, but this one was a disappointment for me.

Fix Her Up is a cross between little sister/big brother's best friend romance and pretend relationship to real lovers romance. This book is a total pickup me up read, totally predictable and way sexy but a feel good read to cure even the most down in the dumps reader. Georgette Castle has been seen as the little sister or a kid for all of her twenty-three years so much that instead of joining her family's renovation business, she hangs out with kids at birthday parties as a clown performer. Her entertainment business is going pretty good but she has plans to grow bigger if she can get anyone to see her as adult. Her brother's best friend and Georgie's childhood crush, Travis Ford is wallowing in self pity after his major league ball career ended from an injury. Marching in like the annoying little sister, Georgie drags Travis back to living his life until Travis starts noticing his best friends little sister. Both find unexpected support and understanding in the other as they quickly become friends. An incredible broadcasting opportunity is offered to Travis if he can show he's changed his playboy ways and little Georgie is willing to play his girlfriend. Real feelings and lust cloud up the game plan as Travis and Georgie swing their way to a sweet HEA that will stay on my bookshelf to re-read and cheer me up when skies get a little gray. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
Fun, cutesy romcom with a lot of steam! Loved the storyline of Georgie and Travis. Can’t wait to drive into the next book in this series.
I'm really, REALLY conflicted about this book. I enjoyed reading it, found the story line to be entertaining and liked all of the characters (even Georgie's annoying brother, Stephen). Travis and Georgie were both damaged by their families and Tessa Bailey did a great job of showing how they were a good emotional fit. And boy was the sex steamy... I'm all for steamy sex. BUT.. call me a prude, but I found the way that Travis talked to Georgie during sex to be more demeaning than sexy. If he had shown some versatility in his language, then the nastiness would have been a bit of a thrill. Sadly, it seemed to be all or nothing with his mouth.

Georgie is the little sister trying to be taken as a serious adult and business woman. Travis is the former professional baseball player and womanizer that is trying to be seen as someone that has changed, so he can get the job he wants. If the two pretend to date, maybe that would help them get what they want. “What’s the harm? It’s not like it’s real.”
This book started out promising, but it became far fetched, with a flimsy plot, and one smutty sex scene after another. The dialogue during these scenes in particular were so cringey,, and when the MC, Georgie, starts muttering her vibrators name in her sleep I wanted to face palm. The love interest, Travis, was super controlling, and add that to Georgie having to purchase tight skirts and revealing tops in order to be taken seriously, and the book lost me. This was released in 2019 and we’re still writing stories where woman have to be pretty and dressed provocatively to succeed? This surprised me.
There was some fun witty banter, so if smut & swoon minus a realistic solid plot doesn’t bother you, then you’ll enjoy this light and easy read.
*A copy of this book was provided to me by netgalley thru the book club girls.
I don't typically read romance novels, so I'm not at all sure how this book would stack up against other of its.genre, but it was a quick and exciting read! I do wish it had been fleshed out a little more as a fuller novel, because even the side characters were relatable and in interesting situations. I prefer less-neat endings, because this one felt rushed in comparison to the first three-quarters of the novel. Great characters, great premise, just overall not my style!
I received an electronic copy as part of Book Club Girls' Free Book Friday. Fix Her Up is a hot little summer read. If you are offended by explicit sex scenes, avoid this one.
This is a fun very steamy romantic comedy- perfect for anyone who loves a major league baseball hottie and girl next door vibe.
Georgie has always had a crush on her older brother’s best friend. Now that she’s an adult, her crush is still there! Will her dreams come true, and will her family start treating her like an adult? This was a very steamy read.

I didn’t connect with the characters overall, but it you like hot sex scenes, this is your book. I would read future books from Tessa Bailey.
“They don’t treat me this way at Gap Kids. You can learn a thing or two from them”.
This was such a fun and cute read. I loved the banter, and loved the relationships formed. I love the “let’s pretend but really deep down it’s real” relationships.
Thank you so much for the gifted copy!
