I love Emma Lord's first novel, Tweet Cute. You Have a Match was just as good! The characters were instantly loveable. That mixed with a summer camp setting and a bit of mystery makes for a quick, delightful read. I would recommend reading You Have a Match!

Put quite simply: this is just a great book! It’s emotional, it’s funny, it’s heartfelt, it’s deep, it’s silly, and it makes you appreciate the friends and family you have in your life.

When her friend (who she possibly wants to be more than friends with) Leo wants to take a DNA test to find out about his family, Abby takes one as well to support him, not thinking she’ll discover anything other than the percentage of Irish she is. But it turns out she has a secret sister, Savannah! Abby and her new older sister meet up at summer camp to get to the bottom of what happened and discover things about themselves along the way.

I love how Abby and Savvy’s relationship changes over time! This book is all about the bonds between siblings, even if that sibling starts off as a stranger. It’s fascinating how their relationship starts off in this gray area — not friends yet not entirely strangers since they have a friend in common, Leo. They see similarities in each other and form a unique connection despite — they think — being so different.

Family overall is important to both Abby and Savvy. Their parents play a big role in the story (unlike some YA where parents are way, way in the background), and not just because they’re the catalyst for what happened but because they’re important to Abby and Savvy. It’s our parents, siblings, and grandparents who help define who we are and who we want to be and what we find important in our lives.

The bonds between friends is also strong in this book. Despite not seeing much of Connie physically in the book, we get a strong sense of who she is and the unbreakable friendship between her and Abby. Love the pros and Connies list idea so much! Mickey is just so awesome and sassy and funny and the type of person who would go to the end of the world for the people she cares about.

I love how hobbies and interests are so important! There is nothing so much that defines you as a teen than what you love to do in your spare time. I love that Abby loves photography, that Savvy is into spreading the knowledge of health and wellness, that both Leo and Mickey love cooking and trying new dishes.

I don’t want to give too much about about the romances, but I will say: YES I LOVE IT ALL SO MUCH! So much drama and cuteness with a dash of teen angst. Love me an adorable straight and gay romance!

You Have A Match will hit you right in the feels. It will make you want to go hug your family. It will make you appreciate the hobbies you enjoy. It will make you want to hug the book to your chest and never let go.

Loved it! I didn't think Emma Lord would be able to match Tweet Cute, but, wow, she really did. Great characters. Lots of good layering in the history and relationships of the characters, too. I felt like I was in on all the inside jokes by the end, like I had grown up with these people.

I also appreciated how positive the relationships between friends and between family members were. Her books are exactly what I want my kids to read. I read this quote recently, and it reminded me of both You Have a Match and Tweet Cute:

I’m going to do everything in my power to give [my kids] the tools to love themselves deeply so that they are empowered to walk away from toxic belief systems.

You could substitute "relationships" for "systems," too, honestly. But yeah, I just love how empowering Lord's books are. Five enthusiastic stars from me.

When Abby signs up for a DNA service, it’s mainly to settle a bet with her best friend Connie regarding who is more Irish. But when the DNA service reveals Abby has a secret sister, her life is thrown upside down … especially considering that Savannah, her new big sis, is only a year and a half older than Abby herself.

The two connect and decide to attend the same summer camp and figure out why Abby’s parents gave Savvy up for adoption. What could go wrong? You guessed it -- only everything.

I didn’t dislike this book … but overall, there was way too much miscommunication and misunderstandings for me to really enjoy it. Abby was just so indecisive – she couldn’t confront her parents, her best friend, her crush, or even be completely honest with Savvy. I know this book is meant for teenagers, and the teenage years are a confusing time, but it was just too much for me. Teens might relate to it more.

I really liked the author's debut, Tweet Cute. I gave that one four stars. This one was three stars for me.

When a DNA test reveals that Abby has a sister she never knew about, the new-found sisters find themselves on a mission to find out the truth about what happened between their parents. They end up going to Camp Reynolds, where they can be together without worrying about the wrong people realizing they know each other (aka, the parentals). Also at camp is Leo, Abby’s best friend and secret love interest. She is determined to push away her feelings for him because she is convinced that Leo doesn’t feel the same, but there is no denying the spark between them. Will they finally be the ones to figure it out?

This was such a sweet book! I loved all of the characters and the summer camp setting. I will admit that the opening chapters had me feeling very overwhelmed by everything that was going on, but once I got into the story, I did get used to how full the plot is! The romance was sweet, and although the friends-to-lovers trope isn’t usually my favorite, watching Abby and Leo grow closer had my heart swooning. Getting to see Abby and Savvy find out more about their families was so interesting, and the end of the book had me tearing up. You Have a Match filled my heart in a way I didn’t know it needed to be filled, and I plan to pick up Tweet Cute as soon as possible because I am officially obsessed with Emma Lord’s books!

I adored Emma Lord's first book, Tweet Cute so I was eagerly awaiting her latest one but sadly I didn't love it that much. I really struggled with our main character Abbey so much. She was so wishy washy with her decisions with everything and I get she's a teenager but she could have been more firm on anything.
I really enjoyed Savvy and learning more about her and what exactly happened. Overall this is a perfect summer read but it didn't live up to Tweet Cute for me.

Tweet Cute was one of my favourite reads from last year and I thought for sure I was going to love her sophomore book even more. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

I still enjoyed my time reading this; I thought it was a lot of fun and it gave me plenty of summer time vibes. However, this didn’t feel like a five star read to me.

My biggest issue with this was that I felt the book could’ve benefited from having dual POVs. I wanted to get to know Savannah more and her thought process. Plus, her perspective could’ve explored more on the behind the scenes aspects of being a social media influencer. I loved Abby’s perspective, but I still wanted more.

Again like with her previous book, the writing style was easy to get into which made the pacing for this super quick to read.

All in all, not as good as her debut, but it was still a great read I'd recommend be read during the summertime.

Oh this book is just super cute, fun, and exciting.

I loved seeing the friendships and relationships unfold during a really hard discovery for two of the main characters.

Thank you Netgalley and St Martins Press for an advanced copy for my sassy thoughts.

I loved Tweet Cute by Emma Lord last year so I was really excited to get my hands on her new book coming out. I didn't enjoy this one quite as much but it was still a really cute young adult story. Without giving much away, if you are a fan of The Parent Trap then you will probably really enjoy this book. There is some young romance but it felt like the main focus of You Have a Match is on family, there are so many different aspect of what is a family and this book seems to have it all... not to mention drama and weeding through life as a teenager!

Abby's best friend, Leo, has always wanted to know where he came from. So, when he suggests they take DNA tests, Abby agrees to be supportive. What she doesn't expect is for the results to uncover that she has a full-blood sister living in the next town over. Abby can't wrap her head around why her parents wouldn't tell her they had another kid before her. Instead of asking them to come clean, she decides to keep some secrets of her own and sets out to meet Savvy, her sister, and, together, they'll figure it all out or bring everything around them crashing down.

I read Tweet Cute by Lord last year and loved it. This was much of the same. You know with this author that you are getting a fun and, at times, laugh-out-loud comedy, but you are also getting something real. Lord doesn't just write cutesy YA books. They have substance; they have ugly; they have grit, and I'm here for it. If you haven't read anything by this author yet, what are you waiting for?

You Have A Match is my first book by Emma Lord. Tweet Cute is on my TBR but I haven’t gotten to it yet.
I was excited about this one because I’ve heard so many good things about author.

Abby and her friends sign up for a DNA ancestry service, Abby's life gets turned upside down when she find out she has an older sister.
I got some Parent Trap vibes from this novel which I really enjoyed!

It did take me a while to actually get into this book. I had to take a break and read something else because I really didn’t want to DNF this book.
I’m glad I kept reading because I really did like the story and I’m in love with Emma Lords writing!

This book is perfect for anyone who loves YA contemporary.

Abby, Leo and Connie have been best friends a long time. So, it's no surprise when Leo takes a DNA test, Abby and Connie agrees to take one with him. Abby figures nothing will really come of it, only it does. A potential match sends her a message, asks her if she would like to meet. A sister? An Instagram model? Who is this girl?

Everything starts to become questionable to Abby. Her life, her grades, her photography.. Not only being blindsided with this kind of news, she also has to deal with her feelings toward Leo. She doesn't want anything to be weird since the B.E.I. and Connie isn't helping either. Now, Abby is going away to camp and has some loose ends she needs to tie up.

Loved the ending. It was perfect. Thank you to Netgalley, Emma Lord, and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this expecting it to feel lighter, more fun, cute, like Emma Lord's first book did. I was mildly surprised--but not unpleasantly so--that it was a much heavier read for me than Tweet Cute. i related to both Savvy and Abby, but in different ways. Abby's relationship with her Poppy, and how much that impacted her and guided her decisions once he was gone, it really hit home for me. As someone who had a very similar relationship with a now-passed grandparent (in my case my grandma) it was achingly familiar to feel her pain and how she connected with activities they used to do together as a way to cope and remember him. Savvy's near constant anxiety over scheduling her life and making it perfect is something I feel very closely in my own life. Something I felt very closely in high school and college, too. I've never been an Instagram person, not really, but I can feel the anxiety she had over it in my own life, and the way I ran it back in school. I think both of these characters are girls many people, many readers, can and will relate to.
I do want to briefly touch on the love storyline. I didn't think it really dominated the story, which is perfect. It didn't need to. It wasn't anything more, to me, than a secondary plot line that really only mattered in terms of furthering Abby's personal character development. And, honestly? I'm here for it. If there had been more focus I probably would have been severely annoyed. This wasn't a romcom. This was a serious coming-of-age story. With an adorable romcom-esque cover.
Highly recommend. Possibly even more so than Tweet Cute. This author has all but cemented me as a fan for life at this point.

Well done Emma Lord! You Have a Match, your sophomore book was every bit as enjoyable and relevant as your debut. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to read both of them.

In this book, the main character, Abby, finds out she has an unknown sibling via random DNA testing. The irony is she didn't expect any life-changing results. She only sent in the test because her other two best friends were doing it too. The story primarily revolves around Abby and Savvy meeting and getting to know one another. In addition, they want to solve the mystery surrounding Savvy. With the goal of having time to figure things out together, Abby decides to go away to the same summer camp that Savvy will be at.

In addition to the storyline of two sisters finding one another, there is also a touch of romance. Abby has an unrequited crush on her best friend, Leo. Savvy has her own romantic challenges between her girlfriend, Jo and her good friend, Mickey. Everything combines to make this a well-developed story. Ms. Lord creates characters that feel real and are easy to become invested in.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. John's Press for this ARC. I chose to voluntarily review it and the opinions contained within this review are my own.

Abby opens a You have a Match link on a DNA ancestry site. What would you do if your DNA test locates a completely unknown older sister? Would you rejoice? Or would you obsess over why your parents never mentioned a sister before? Abby decides to sneak off to summer camp where her new sister is a counselor to get more information.

Abby is best friends with Connie and Leo since childhood. Now, going into senior year, Abby begins to feel romantic towards Leo. Connie tells Abby that Leo isn’t into her so Abby tries to shove her feelings back into the friend zone. It’s difficult because Leo is also a counselor at Abby’s summer camp.

You have a Match is a funny young adult romp with something for everyone! It’s romantic. It’s hilarious. The characters’ actions are realistic. It’s not just for younger readers. 5 stars!

DNF

Unfortunately I have come to the decision to DNF this book. It is not the book’s fault by any means but I have just come to the realization that I don’t enjoy YA Contemporary anymore.

I felt myself unwilling to pick this back up and felt it wasn’t fair to this book to finish just to give it a low rating when the issue is on me.

I still would definitely recommend this book for YA Contemporary readers!

4.5 stars

Emma Lord has turned into an auto-buy author. Her sophomore release was such a joy to read, I just loved it. It was pretty heart wrenching at times and I definitely shed some tears.

After signing up for a DNA service, Abby's life gets turned upside down—she has an older sister. They decide to meet up at a summer camp to work together and figure out what went on all those years ago. Abby is surprised to learn that her best friend (and secret crush) attends the same camp and is friends with her new sister. Abby and Savannah are very different people and must learn to work together to discover their shared history and why was it all kept a secret.

I loved being with Abby as she discovered things about herself and her relationship with the people around her. She's flawed—she was reckless with her choices that led to her getting hurt and made mistakes, but she was so authentic. Her life was messy and while everyone around her seems to know what they were destined to do in life, she was lost. All the characters were really genuine and had such a great time being a part of their journey.

This was such a strong contemporary that had so much humor and heart. I'll read anything Emma Lord gives me.

What a good coming-of-age summer camp YA to read! Abby decides to take a DNA test to get her friend Leo to do the same. Leo is adopted and doesn't really have anything to report after his test but Abby finds out that she has a secret older sister! She and her sister Savvy decide to spend some time at summer camp together unraveling why they don't know about each other. There's lots of teenage drama but I felt like it was all realistic. Abby is also secretly crushing on her BFF Leo and I could really identify with her angst there. I enjoyed the Parent Trap-type of story but there is much more to it than that.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC in return for my honest review.
