I loved Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Ellie Cosimano. It was a very entertaining mystery, and I definitely enjoyed reading it. The characters, in particular Finlay, were well-developed and felt like real people. I also found this book very engaging, and could never quite guess where it was going. The pacing was also well done. My main complaint with this novel was that it felt like it was being pulled in too many different directions tonally. That being said, I would definitely still recommend this book.
This book was a quirky and exciting ride from start to finish! I don't think I've ever read a thriller that has been so chaotic yet in the most fun way possible. I flew through it super quickly and cannot wait to continue with the series someday. If you're looking to get started with thrillers, I would definitely recommend this one. It's not super dark, is full of humor, and has a fun protagonist that you won't be able to help but cheer for!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano.
I absolutely love this book and the whole series really. I would love to read more books similar to this one. I read this one for The Read Rovers book club and this one kept me literally laughing out loud. I believe we had a chat with the author for one of the books in the series and she mentioned a few others that are similar like vera wangs unsolicited advice for murders which I also loved.
I LOVE FINLAY, what a fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and Finlay is such a cool, funny character. I cannot wait to dive into the second and the rest of the series! Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me a copy to read in return for an honest review. 4.75 rounded up.
What a fabulous start to this series! I've recommended it to so many other moms like me who also could be hired as assassins on any given Panera visit.
"Finlay Donovan is Killing It" by Elle Cosimano is a fast-paced, witty, and thoroughly enjoyable romp about single mom and struggling novelist Finlay, whose life takes an unexpected turn when she's mistaken for a contract killer.
Finlay's struggles navigating the challenges of parenting and writing are endearing and relatable. Cosimano captures the messy, hilarious, and heartfelt moments of motherhood, while bringing a refreshing twist to the traditional thriller/suspense genre. As Finlay finds herself entangled in a real-life murder investigation, the plot takes unexpected turns, keeping readers turning the pages.
The novel not only delivers on its promise of intrigue but also weaves a heartfelt story about resilience, self-discovery, and the unexpected joys of motherhood. "Finlay Donovan is Killing It" is a recommended read for those seeking a smart, entertaining, and well-crafted blend of mystery and humor.
I loved this book! I am not usually a mystery reader but this one kept me hooked for so long! I loved Finlay’s character and just the chaos that kept happening.
In the beginning, I found Finlay and her problems not very unique for a novel, but as I read on, I became more involved in her need for family security, for money, and for making sure her ex-husband doesn't gain sole custody of their two children.
That she is pulled inadvertently into a murder for hire situation, and how she manages the puzzling and troubling problems she finds herself in becomes unique and hilarious at the same time. At the end of the book, I'm looking forward to reading more about Finlay and how she might become a contract killer without actually killing anyone intentionally.
Finlay was such a chaotic character to read from, and I loved every second of it. This book is so funny and silly, as well as still fulfilling the mystery aspects. I have already recommended this book to so many people, especially people who love cozy mysteries but want a little more edge!
First book in a new series and it has definitely put Elle Cosimano on many TBR lists. Finlay Donavan is THAT woman. The one you maintain a distance from just in case her bad luck is contagious. Nothing in her life is going in the right direction, so she makes some very bad choices. This book is so entertaining, it needs to be shared with all of your friends, family, neighbors, classmates.....you know....everybody.
Finlay Donovan is Killing It tells the story of Finlay Donovan, a struggling single mom, who finds herself in over her head when she is mistaken for a contract killer.
This is one of those books that sat unread on my shelves for WAY too long because the huge hype for it turned me off at first (please tell me I'm not the only one like this). But I love fun mysteries, and the continued buzz for this series finally meant that I had to check this one out for myself. I'm so glad that I did because I really enjoyed this one. It wasn't a perfect read for me (I would say four stars overall) but it was fun and hard to put down. Finlay's struggles to keep her life together are easy to relate to. Her poor decision making maybe not so much. But it's fun to read about and really that is what matters. I couldn't help but shake my head and smile at the trouble/situations she finds herself in. And Vero is easily the perfect complement to Finlay. The two of them together was so fun - I can't wait to see what kind of trouble they get into next!
If you too haven't yet given into the hype of this book, let this be your sign that it's time especially if you are in the mood for an entertaining, fast paced read. I definitely plan on picking up the next book and continuing on with the series soon!
I'm not sure how I didn't realize that my review on several books-this one included- wasn't properly sent in, but I went back and reread a couple books to ensure I reviewed the books accurately. This book was one of the best, funniest, well-written books I've read in a long, long time. Although some of the situations Finn found herself in were over-the-top, I can honestly say I've found myself in positions that no one would would believe had I told them, so I fully appreciate where Finn ends up. This series, this book in particular, is nonstop fun- never a dull moment. Good, mostly clean fun, easy to recommend, and even easier to read.
This was a fun one to read! A really good pace set by the author, I flew through it. Its a thriller/mystery etc. executed in a way that I've never seen before so I really enjoyed. Much lighter take on a thriller if you don't usually read this category!
I received an advanced digital copy of this book from the author, publisher and NetGalley.com. Thanks to all for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This book is hilarious. An assassin comedy of errors. Believable characters and dialog in situations that just test the suspension of disbelief. A fun read from beginning to end.
5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommended.
I read this in one sitting. Finlay Donovan is not a stereotypical protagonist. She struggles with moral decisions in a serious but humorous way reminding readers that things are not always black or white. Most people spend a great deal of time in the gray area. Her choices reflect the priority of her children. Who can challenge it ? The book is entertaining and fast-paced.
This book seemed right up my alley, but unfortunately did not grab me and I had to DNF. Thank you for allowing me access, however! I think it just wasn't the right fit for me, but will be loved by others.
Finlay Donovan is desperate for cash and her ex-husband wants full custody of her kids. When she meets her agent at a Panera to discuss her latest book, another woman mistakenly believes Finn is a contract killer. I'll admit that at first I wasn't sure if I would like this one, but Finlay's hijinks, soon joined by Vero, her former nanny, and it really was a lot of fun. I like my mysteries to be light and quirky, and this one fills that bill easily. I can't wait to read the next one!
I'm late to the game on this first Finlay. And I'm so sorry I waited this long. Ugh. What a fun and fantastic read. And what a magnificent ending! Can't wait to read the next two!!
Thank you for an advanced reader copy.
I enjoyed this but thought I would love it more than I did! It’s entertaining and fun, but maybe a bit too silly/over the top for my preferences. I loved seeing Finlay succeed and am interested to see where the story goes next!
Finlay is hilarious and charming. This book kept me on my toes in a really fun way, and I can't wait to read more in the series!
