I've read this book sooo many times and forced all of my close friends and family to read it too. I feel like that is the best endorsement I could possibly give

I was not prepared for how much I enjoyed this book. There are plenty of laugh out loud and relatable moments combined with the crazy and outlandish. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Fantastic! There’s so much humor and adventure and misadventure and fun with Finlay. I enjoyed getting to know her story from the very beginning. I found her parenting and coping relatable and the way she kept getting herself into situations had me laughing out loud and wanting more.

A fun lighthearted hard to put down book!

Thanks so much NetGalley and Minotaur for the eARC.

Absolutely loved this hilarious romp of a book! Can't wait to read the rest of the series. Finley is relatable, witty, and messy in the best possible way. I absolutely adore her and her kids, and was on the edge of my seat for this whole ride!

What a fun, engaging read and perfect to curl up on the sofa or stretch out on the beach with.

I am a new Finlay Donovan fan! It didn’t take but a few pages for me to become one. Finlay is the type of character that is easy to picture yourself in her place. Except for the hitwoman for hire part. LoL! But please do not let that idea stop you from diving into this story. She’s newly divorced and is struggling to hold things together with finances and children along with her two timing ex husband. I loved her immediately.

This was such a fun, engaging read. The story really pulled me in and I loved her sidekick that added depth to the story along with humor. Even as there is one crazy thing after another happening, the danger begins to feel very real. I appreciated the layers this author created along the way. And of course there’s the touch of romance that Finlay is exploring. Not sure where that’s going to go but I’m definitely reading the next book to find out more about all of these incredible characters.

December has been a rough reading month for me and nothing I have read has truly gripped me until I read this book. This book was full of humor and murder and what more could a girl ask for? I liked the main character Finlay a lot. Finlay’s life has taken a rough turn as her husband cheated on her with their real estate agent and left her and she hasn’t been able to write the book she was under contract for and is struggling to pay the bills. After a disappointing meeting with her agent she gets a strange note from a woman who had been watching her oddly and her life will never be the same as it was before. I’m excited that I got a bunch of these books all at once and will definitely be reading the rest of them. I love the idea of a book within a book and I also like a story that puts a spunky, funny, and resourceful main character against mildly frustrating people like Finlay’s ex-husband.

I have wanted to start this series for a while, I first came across it on a list of books to read if you like the show Only Murders in the Building. I was very concerned early on in Finlay Donovan is Killing It. The way she becomes a hit man was overly goofy and the fact that she even decided to investigate anyone was bizarre. BUT I have to admit after that I was sucked in to see how everything played out. Definitely going to start book 2 in the next few days.

3.75 ⭐️

I actually loved this book. It was so fun and cute. Perfect for a palette cleanse. Perfect for a mystery with bits of romance and comedy.
Finlay has the perfect amount of sass and her character just makes the book. She puts herself in positions that get her into trouble and then she has to get out of it somehow.

Loved loved. Can't wait to get into the next one.

OMG!! Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Ellie Cosimano is hands-down the funniest hot mess mystery I’ve ever read. From duct-taping her daughter’s hair/hat to stumbling into a murder-for-hire plot, Finlay and her ride-or-die Vero kept me laughing out loud the entire way. Shout out to Angela Dawe for her phenomenal narration—her ability to give each character a unique voice left me in awe. I’m still in shock that this was a one-narrator audiobook! I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the series. This book is pure chaos in the best way!

As an avid romance and fantasy reader, Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano was such a fun change of pace for me! Finlay is a relatable and endearing character, juggling the chaos of mom life while desperately trying to secure a solid book deal.

I have to say, Vero is the perfect sidekick—sharp, resourceful, and always ready to dive into Finlay’s wild predicaments. The plot had me hooked from the very first chapter, and I finished the book in a single day because I simply couldn’t put it down.

Cosimano masterfully blends humor, tension, and absurdity as Finlay finds herself in over her head after a hilarious mix-up involving a mistaken hitman job. From laugh-out-loud moments to nail-biting twists, this book is a rollercoaster of fun and suspense. I can’t wait to pick up the next in the series!

I love the the concept of the story. The miscommunication, the mystery, and the friendship between two strangers mix together to create a quick read.

Finlay is a divorced mother of two. She wants to be a full-time author but her career is faltering. Her husband Steven is trying to take her children from her so he can play house with his new fiancé. Finlay needs a plan and an idea for her current book. She also needs money so she can stop calling Stephen for help. She thinks things are as bad as they can get but she’s about to learn that they can not only get worse but the can get way more complicated!

Finlay comes off as a bit useless. I know she’s supposed to be plucky but I don’t get that feeling from the character. Her nanny, Vero, is plucky but that doesn’t make her likeable. When Finlay and Vero team up, I couldn’t stop thinking that if Finlay had just gone to the cops in the first place, none of the bad stuff would have happened. The author turned it around toward the end which I thought was fun and campy. On balance, I think the series has possibility. I hope the author fleshes out how Finlay is going to get herself out of the mess that she has created.

There are a lot of side characters. The ex-husband, Stephen, is unlikeable. He is a cheater and his actions toward Finlay are manipulative and abusive. Stephen’s fiancé, Theresa, doesn’t get a lot of time in the story but since her starting point is cheating with Stephen I can’t justify any of her actions. Finlay’s sister, Georgia, is a bit of an enigma. She is a cop. She loves Finlay and the kids with all of her heart. Vero is someone Finlay should probably avoid. It is clear that she isn’t an honest person and she is potentially criminal. Julian is an attractive young law student and bar tender who Finlay can’t stay away from. He seems like a decent guy. Nick is a cop who works with Georgia. He is interested in Finlay. The author doesn’t give much information about him in the story.

This is book one of a series. I thought the introduction to this story was boring and slow. I understand why the setup needs to occur but I found myself getting distracted and doing things other than reading. I am hoping that book two is faster paced and Finlay gets a chance to grow and become self-reliant. And maybe Finlay can figure out a way out of being a criminal. Just a thought. I will read book 2 because I want to know what happens next.

Synopsis:
Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.

When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet . . . Soon, Finlay discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.

Thoughts:
I loved the premise of this book! Accidentally becoming a contract killer is hilarious and I enjoyed every moment of this book!

Didn't think I would enjoy this book as much as I did. It was a fun murdery/mystery comedy. I was very entertained.

Finlay Donovan is a single mom, and boy, is it hard. With a four-year-old and a toddler underfoot as she's trying to finish her next book by deadline, her ex-husband fires her nanny and is threatening to sue for custody. Discussing her book with her agent over lunch, a nearby eavesdropper mistakes her latest murder plot as - well, as a murder plot - and tries to hire her. Hijinks ensue and with the help of her now rehired nanny, Finlay tries to get herself out of a situation that is determined to pull her in.

I finally jumped on the Finlay Donovan train and it was a ride. Like Finlay, I really didn't know where this was going. How will she get out of this mess without committing murder for hire? Or will she have to actually do it? Throw in a couple of hotties to complicate matters, just for distraction. (Shades of Stephanie Plum running through my mind in the best possible ways.) But this was a quick read and the characters are funny and relatable and the action was plentiful. I'm looking forward to reading the others in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In the past, I'd never read the Finlay Donovan novels by Elle Cosimano. I missed reading the first, and then the second one caught my eye, but I felt I should read the first before reading it and just didn't. Over and over, the newest one would catch my eye but I would not read it. Recently, the fifth one did the same thing, but I was offered the opportunity to read and review all the preceding ones in one chunk.  That was all the incentive I needed. I was all in once I "got to know" the characters.  These novels are full of funny, laughable moments and memorable characters set in a cozy mystery setting. These reminded me of my younger years and reading Nancy Drew, and more recently, reading Janet Evanovich. Can you read any one of them as a stand-alone? Sure, but why?  I highly recommend you read them in order as a set and plan to pick up the future ones as they come out. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the ARC ebook I read and reviewed. All opinions are my own.
