Looking for a Cowboy by Donna Grant is book five in Heart of Texas series and it's another fantastic addition to these handsome cowboys. All the stories in the series are soulful, romantic and sexy.
I Love them all and Highly Recommend it to all readers.
This is a Cowboy Suspense Romance, and this book is the 5th book in the Heart of Texas series. I have to warn people that this book as a lot of hard to read things into like killing, kidnapping, adoption, and cutting babies out of their moms. This book is beautifully written, fast-pace, and a must-read. I have to say that the cover of this book does do anything for the story. I think the cover makes you think it is a cute cowboy romance, but this is a high pace suspense book with a little romance throw in. I LOVED this story and could not put it down. The characters where so developed, and I loved the characters so much. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (St. Martin's Press) or author (Donna Grant) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Looking for a Cowboy by Donna Grant is a good fit for readers who enjoy fast-paced contemporary romance novels with a focus on uncovering secrets and finding love in unexpected places.
Marlee Frampton used to be a police officer until one fateful horrible day, her sister was brutally murdered, and her sister’s baby was removed from her body. Marlee couldn’t deal with the total loss of her sister and decided from here on out that she would find lost children and return them to their grieving parents. Marlee’s loss drives her to become a private investigator, bringing her to the small town of Clearview, Texas. Marlee thinks that she has not noticed but she is totally wrong. Cooper Owen, while visiting his mom, who constantly badgers him about finding a woman to love, knows his mom’s heart is in the right place, but there isn’t anyone in Clearview that Cooper is interested in. Cooper figures that all the good women are taken by his friends. When Cooper meets Marlee he can’t help but fall for her instantly! Cooper decides to help Marlee find the missing children, but little does she realize that someone is also tracking her and if Cooper helps, he could be in danger too.
What a lovely contemporary romance filled with hot, handsome, loyal cowboys and the women who bring them to their knees. It almost makes me want to visit the tiny town of Clearview, because of this reason for alone just to view these heroic men. I do hope that there is a story about Officer Ryan. It just made me sad that he doesn’t get a story either. This is a very intriguing read with good believable plot twists and endearing characters that practically breathe are also very three dimensional too! I just absolutely loved Cooper! He’s just the perfect gorgeous, sincere and charming cowboy that I wish they were all like that. Marlee kind of paled in comparison to him. In fact, she kind of really irritated me and I felt Cooper could do so much better. I didn’t blame him for falling for a beauty though, so that might be his downfall. Still, Ms. Donna Grant knows how to really write a magnificent story that engages and is just a joy to read!
Had to stop reading since the story dragged on and on. The main character Marlee is searching for the killers of her twin sister that not only murdered but also took her unborn baby. She finds other of same killings and kidnappings. The title didn’t go with the story.
This story is very emotional since Marlee’s job is finding missing babies who were taken from their murdered mothers. We find out why Marlee is focused on these babies in the prologue.
The story is a Cowboy Suspense Romance and we get Cooper's story in this 5th installment of the series. Of course we get more from all of the characters in the previous books since they're such a close-knit group always looking out and helping out each other. There was a little bit of romance and lots of suspense.
Another great book in the series!
I enjoyed this book so much. I loved the suspense of finding the horrible criminals and I really liked the relationship between Marlie and Cooper. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it was going to end. Donna Grant did an amazing job with character development and plot. Can’t wait to see what worse she’s has written.
Wow, this one was pretty intense at time and full of suspense and at the same time had a romance going on. Marlee started out as a small town police office until her twin sister was brutally murdered when she was 8 months pregnant all to cut out her baby and the baby has never been found. That was 10 years ago. Since then, Marlee has turned her life around and is now working as a P.I. and chasing down baby traffickers and is now in Texas and looking at the Harpers who just adopted a baby. When Cooper Owens meets the newcomer to town he sees a beautiful woman but when he gets closer he finds out there is more to her. Soon he is working along side her to bring down this ring. This story was heart wrenching and even dangerous at times. Marlee is used to working alone but with Cooper and his team of friends there is no more alone and together they may find justice or at least find the head of this snake.
I'm normally a fan of Donna Grant and her more fantasy book series. I've read two cowboy books by her and they didn't interest me the same way I really enjoyed the other series. I'm not sure if it's the contemporary cowboy stories that I can't connect to because she is a good writer.
ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This one slipped through the cracks as life took over, it was worth the wait though.
The story is certainly not all life, there are some horrible doses of reality, the crime in the dregs of our society.
I was riveted and glued to my kindle and couldn't put this book down.
Great story and wonderful characters, I truly loved it.
A very suspenseful story with a cringey-subject matter, but I thought the author handled it well. The investigation overshadows the romance just a little, but the chemistry catches up. It's not quite enemies-to-lovers, but it has some intriguing sparks. I've been looking forward to Cooper's story, and I loved Marlee's character! Donna's style shines through in this book, and I recommend.
A lot of people liked this book, but it wasn't for me. I can't handle reading about mother's being murdered and the baby being cut out for illegal adoptions.
I received a complimentary copy from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
I rated this book a 3 star on GoodReads but it's been so long and I didn't write a review after I read the book. I thought I would post the rating here and clear it off my shelf.
I pretty much read Donna Grant for her contemporary romances rather than her paranormal. I have loved this series so much. This is no exception, it's exciting, heartwarming, and a great romance.
WARNING: The cover does not match the story. This is more of a suspense/thriller with tough subject matter. The book contains some hard things to read about: killing, kidnapping, cutting babies from the womb. It gets intense.
Cooper Owens has come to a fork in the road in his life. All of his friends are married and settling down. He hangs out and helps out, but he doesn’t have a true job and he isn’t sure what he wants to do.
Marlee Frampton is a P.I. brought to Clearview on a new case. She is driven, stressed, and deals in danger daily. Marlee is investigating Cooper – and all of his friends in town. She is on the hunt for a kidnapped baby – cut right from the womb of its mother, who was left to die. It is not the first. In fact, it happened to Marlee’s twin ten years ago in California. There has been an increase in this particularly heinous crime, and Marlee’s goal is to reunite families with their taken babies. Her current case revolves around two of Cooper’s friends and their sudden adoption of a 5-day old baby boy. A baby she suspects was cut from the womb and sold in this adoption black market.
Cooper and his gang eventually welcome Marlee in with open arms and become her own entourage. They work together to pull pieces together and investigate new intel.
While they’re busy at work, they’re busy at play, too. Cooper and Marlee have insta-lust. It wasn’t even anything that was striking about each of them that created a spark. It came off as “Hey, you’re hot AF, let’s go do the S.E.X.” Not typical Grant style, and I didn’t like it in her writing. It was a little tough to get on board that there was an actual relationship building, but as all of the various plot lines continued to progress, they develop a friendship as well as a working relationship. Marlee is able to share things about herself and her life (even if Cooper finds out about some of those things from others). I did enjoy seeing these developments.
I had some major beefs with the story, though. There are SO MANY situations Marlee (and Cooper) get into and they don’t have a damn gun! I don’t know any former police officer that doesn’t carry. It’s second-nature. And especially in Marlee’s particular line of work.
I also found quite a bit of the book implausible, but the suspense is what kept me interested in this story. While it is one of the last books in the series and you don’t have to have read any of the previous books, it was a little hard for me to keep up with such a large cast of characters with how fast-paced the book was.
This is book 5 of the Heart of Texas Series. Cooper is put in high alert when a stranger comes to town asking questions that shouldn't be asked of his friends. The stranger, P.I. Marlee Frampton, is asking questions about her sisters murder and the kidnapping of her baby. Can she find the answers that she needs, and maybe find love along the way?
This was a miss for me as the topic of murdered pregnant mums to steal their babies was just too gruesome for a romance plot, and the romance itself was coloured by this whole angle so much so that it read a lot like 'this has to happen because the author wants it to happen' and not because it was organic or an inevitable love.
Interesting and great story.
I liked the flow and the characters. There was a great amount of conflict and interest to keep page turning.
Attractive title and cover.
Recommend.
Ended up skipping a lot of parks because of the child trafficking part. I absolutely will not read about that. Other than that it was a good story and I loved the cast of characters.
I'm so sorry it took me forever to read this. 2020-21 have not lent me any free time to read.
I did enjoy Marlee and Cooper's story and recommend it.
Donna Grant is one of my favorite authors and I had good intentions when I requested this. Thank you for the opportunity.
