Police Officer Marlee Frampton arrives home to find that her pregnant twin sister is not home. Her partner quickly arrives to tell her the worst news, but she wants to see for herself. Marlee is horrified to learn that her sister's baby has been ripped from the womb and that her sister is dead. Now ten years later, Marlee wants to track down baby traffickers and return babies to their families. I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher through Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. For me, the horror in the beginning of this book affected how I felt about the rest of the book. I also didn't connect with Marles. I didn't like how she planned to deceive Connor to get closer to the adopting couple even though it went against her moral compass. This was not a book for me.
Oh my Gosh I can't believe I forgot to review this book after reading it!!
While I can see why people would call Looking for a Cowboy a romance it doesn't fit completely into the romance section. It is a mix of suspense, mystery and romance but not quite fits in any one category.
Donna Grant writes a story that weaves itself around the hearts of readers that cling to every word she writes as the characters try to find their purpose in the story.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy of Donna Grant Looking for a Cowboy.
Adoption of new born babies is a big business. Pregnant women are being kidnapped and their babies cut out of their bodies while the mother's throats are slit. P.I. Marlee Frampton arrives in Clearview Texas on the hot trail of baby boy who was harvested in the great state of Texas. Her target is the Harpers who have recently adopted a new born. Not only are the Harpers a prominent family in town but Cooper Owens is best friends with them. Will Cooper become Marlee's inside track into his friends? Have they adopted a harvested baby?
For Marlee it all began when a twin is out walking in her neighborhood and becomes a victim. Now Marlee is on a crusade to find justice and attempt to stop the baby harvesting ring. She eats, sleeps, dreams her cases and while she's made some inroads the closest and freshest trail is the one that leads to Clearwater.
There is an instant spark of attraction between her and Cooper when they meet and given that Cooper is best friends with her suspects the Harpers she decides to see if she can leverage the attraction. While that move might have backfired on her, the Harpers and Cooper are honorable people and suddenly Marlee is working with a team of local police, and ex-special forces to try to nail down the kidnappers. Of course in parallel her romance with Cooper heats up in a really good way as well.
The story is fast paced and keeps readers hopping especially since the author gives us a unique insight into the kidnappers in sort of a split screen kind of way. I like how the team starts to corelate facts and start creating a grid and tracking down cases and getting close to the kidnappers. Will Marlee ever recover her niece even though the little girl will be ten years old now.
All the stories in this series have been great but this one is the best of the 5 in my book anyway. Can't to see where this series goes next.
4.25⭐
Looking for a Cowboy was a fast-paced and extremely readable story. That hooked me in from the start, with a storyline that wasn't quite what I expected, but enthralling nonetheless. Even though it does cover some sensitive subjects, including kidnapping, adoption and murder. But honestly, the characters, the mystery and the romance really made this story worth reading, and I genuinely loved how Cooper and his friends all banded together to help Marlee in her quest.
Would recommend.
I was given an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I am not much for mysteries, so I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to finish this book, but I found myself eagerly trying to get back to reading so that I could find out what was happening.
The subject matter was pretty gruesome and it had A LOT more killing than I would’ve ever read had I actually read the description of the book. The sex scenes seemed pretty out of place for the violence and underworld that seemed to take over the storyline. I’m not sure I’d read another book from this series, but I will be reading the descriptors better.
Heartwrenching book. You know there is evil in the world but this is truly unforgivable. Marlee Frampton's life changed the day her twin was killed and niece was taken. It has become her mission to find missing children and return them to their parents. Her police training has given her the tools to work these cases. Cooper Owens was born and raised in Clearwater. He is one of 4 that all went into the military together and have all come home. Cooper is having a hard time trying to figure out where he belongs. One look at Marlee and he knows she is the one. These evil people have it out for her and it is going to take them all to save the day. Yes we do get a HEA but it is well deserved.
This story was a very good addition to this engaging series. That said, it’s not a sweet romance but rather one filled with babies being kidnapped , women being killed and families left devastated.
Cooper Owens, whom we have met in previous stories, is always helping his friends. When a stranger comes to his town, Clearview, TX, at first he’s intrigued by this beauty. A woman that is asking questions about him and his friends.
Marlee Frampton is a former LA cop and now a PI . Her life changed 10 years ago when her sister was murdered and her unborn baby taken by the murdere . Since then, she’s dedicated her life in finding the babies, and returning the ones she can to their parents. But the mastermind has been elusive.
After a rocky start, Cooper and Marlee develop a relationship and Cooper begins to help Marlee in her quest. A quest that becomes more dangerous by the minute.
The story has an engaging plot, filled with whodunit, suspense, bad guys some good ones , and of course romance. In the end , will Marlee and Cooper survive to find their HEA?
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and St. Martin Press. The story opinions expressed are solely my own.
PI Marlee Frampton would have never said that she was looking for a cowboy but indeed she is and just doesn’t know that is exactly what she needs. What she is looking for is in Looking for a Cowboy by Donna Grant is an inroad to shutting down evil that preys on the innocent. Alone she is unable to do so but with Texas help ,,,
Friends, family, loyalty are major themes in the Heart of Texas Series. So it came as no surprise that it is in this fifth book too. Cooper Owens is attracted to Marlee but also filliwth disbelief at some of her suggestions on crimes in the area. She knows firsthand. The others in this tightly close community agreed with Marlee so the hunt begins. Along the way these two fall for each other. While Cooper is a dreamboat, Malee runs hot and cold in the relationship. She definitely has some struggles to work though which is hard with her focus on catching the vile criminals.
Often in books the crimes seem far away or personal to only the characters but the ones in this story are close to any parent or family. The heinous crimes are not graphic in description but are ones that you could see actually happening which makes them all the more scary. Several questions remain concerning these so hopefully more will come in the next book to tie it all up with Marlee finding the one she has been seeking for ten years. As for the romantic relationship all is well by the end. Looking for a Cowboy read very well as a stand-alone which is not always the case for a Donna Grant series book.
4.5 Stars
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wish I could give this book even more stars. This is the fifth book in this series but I didn't have any trouble following the story line. This is my second book in the series.
This book maybe too graphic for some, but it is a story that needs to be told. The first part of the story is gut wrenching heart breaking. But it is what start Marlee Frampton on the quest for justice for her sister. All Marlee wanted was a quiet life working with her home town police dept. Helping her twin sister raise her new baby. All her dreams and life were ended in one day when her sister is murdered and her niece is kidnapped. She has been looking for the killer for ten years while helping other families that has had their babies taken. Her new leads take her Clearview, Texas. Little does she know this trip will change her life forever. Her lead is for a couple who has just adopted a baby boy. Marlee thinks they may be part of a shady adoption ring.
Cooper Owens has lived in town his whole life and has made life time friends with guys from school and the service. He helps his friends when every they need it but has not found his place in life.
When he runs into Marlee at the service station he is blindsided by his reaction to her . Never has a woman left him speechless. She is beautiful and his attraction is off the charts. Poor Marlee she has taken pictures of Cooper and did a background check on him for her case. But meeting the tall handsome cowboy face to face takes her breath away. She has never felt so drawn to a man before.
The cover for this book does not do the story justice it makes it seem like just other cowboy romance. This story is so much more, it is a suspense, crime story with some off the charts love scenes. They are well written into the story and the people involved. There so much going on with the killings, the lost babies, betrayed by would be friends, and while all that is going on the wonderful romance of two very special people . Marlee and Cooper.
I hope you get a copy and be ready to nothing else cause you will not be able to put it down.
I plan on going back and reading the first three books that I missed. I just know they will be great too.
I received and ARC from the author and want to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am voluntarily giving it.
Donna Grant is a new to me author. I didn't realize when I picked up this book on Netgalley that it was book #5 in the Heart of Texas series. I'm interested in going back to book one because I enjoyed Looking for a Cowboy and its characters so much. To be sure this can be read as a standalone novel but for the reader, I think the connection for the supporting characters would have been that much more enjoyable.
The book was well written. The strong bonds of the Texas men carried throughout the mystery and developing romance of the novel.
P.I., Marlee Frampton, has been on a mission to solve her sister's murder for over a decade. Her leads bring her to a small town in Texas where she meets the most sought after bachelor, Cooper Owens.
From that point forward the hectic ride begins.
This book was not just a romance as I thought it was going to be. The cover made me think that and you should never judge a book by its cover. It was a fast paced romantic suspense and it was so good. The plot was very well written and dealt with some tough subjects. The characters were well developed and very likable.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Outstanding. This is a great story of focus and friendship. Marlee is very focused and passionate about her job. Cooper is out of the military and still looking for something to catch his attention. This story has all the hallmarks of a page turning intrigue and sure fire romance. As Cooper gathers all his friends together to help Marlee solve her case and keep her safe. They also offer him advice on love and moving forward. Great read.
Unterhaltsamer romantic suspense Roman
Allem fehlte etwas an Tiefe.
Marlee isn't really looking for a cowboy- she's looking for her niece and for the person who murdered her twin sister Macey ten years ago by cutting the child out of her mother. Awful. She''s made a career, sadly, out of returning kidnapped children to their parents and now she thinks she might at last have found her niece. Cooper Owens is friends with the couple-Brice and Naomi- who might be behind the scheme. Marlee, however, persuades him to help her and, as they get closer to the truth and things get ugly, they also get closer to one another. This is a little more serious than some cowboy romances but don't let the mystery turn you away. Marlee and Cooper are well drawn and delightful characters. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC. As always, Grant has written a terrific read.
Marlee is a woman on a mission. A former police officer, Marlee has dedicated her life to stopping the ring of babynappers that killed her twin sister after cutting her unborn child from her body. Marlee is currently in Texas, following a lead on a missing baby who is being abducted by a local family. Although her research indicates that the adoptive family and their friend appear to be on the up and up, she knows that desperate people will do desperate things.
Cooper returned to his Texas home after ending his military career. He hasn’t found his next calling yet, but spends his time helping family and friends. The local police chief has suggested that he join the force, but Cooper isn’t sure that is exactly what he wants to do. He believes that he will recognize his calling when the time comes.
Marlee and Cooper meet during her investigation of the adoptive family, who are close friends of Cooper. Their attraction is instantaneous and strong. Marlee veers off-course by telling Cooper why she is really in town. Although the adoption of his friends’ child turns out to be legitimate, Cooper and his friends are impressed with what Marlee is doing and offer to help. Will Cooper and his friends be able to help Marlee find the missing baby she is seeking and will Marlee and Cooper be able to find their happily ever after?
Looking for a Cowboy was a great addition to the series. It was also nice to receive updates on the lives of the characters from the earlier boos in the series. Hopefully, Jace will find his HEA in the next book!
P.I. Marlee Frampton has come to Clearview, Tx. for her continuous work to find the people who, for 10 years, have been cutting infants out of their mother's stomachs then, leaving their mothers to die. The first time this happened, it was Marlee's sister, which is why she became a cop. After a few years though, she realized there were many things she needed to do that she could not do as a cop so, she became a P.I.
Marlee meets Cooper Owens on the first day in town but, she learned long ago not to get involved with anyone because, she never knew what she would have to do or, where she would have to go. There's something about Cooper, though. The instant, sizzling attraction petrifies her and, she doesn't have time for a relationship. She's too close to finding who and what she's looking for!
Little does she know that Cooper and, his friends are always going to have her back!
This book grabs you from the first page and, believe me, it's quite a fascinating ride!
This was an enjoyable book to read. The characters were well written and the romance was pleasant and done in a realistic way. The story was easy to follow and I was able to read this book in one sitting. The setting was beautiful and who doesn’t love a small town romance. The interaction with the secondary characters flowed well. A truly wonderful reading experience.
I've never read a book with a story plot like this one. So sad to think about the families that the deaths and kidnapping happens to.
Spoiler coming. I really enjoyed this book A lot it kept me guessing. However the ending was missing a very crucial point. I thought for sure we were going to get it because Marlee is given the password to uncover everything and I was for sure it was her niece's name. However right after that the epilogue happens and nothing. Was this a mistake and it was just missing or is this the worst Cliff Cliffhanger ever?
Marlee Frampton has come to town looking for a missing baby boy. Her past has made her the person she has become. Marlee has to figure out who she can and can’t trust. Cooper Owen will do anything for his family and friends. He’s got a fondness for redheads. Cooper hasn’t decided yet what he wants to do with the rest of his life. Marlee and Cooper’s first meeting isn’t at all cordial. Will they come together to find a missing baby? Can they come to trust each other? Will he help her figure out that she doesn’t have to be alone? When her case brought her to town, the last thing expected was finding friends and she wasn’t LOOKING FOR A COWBOY.
Donna Grant’s LOOKING FOR A COWBOY shows that the past effects the future. There are surprises and suspense that will keep not wanting to put the book down until you’re finished. Then sad that you came to the end. A man without a purpose finds one with the woman who is used to her solitary life that takes her all over. LOOKING FOR A COWBOY will have you wanting to read the other four stories in the Heart of Texas series.
First of all I have to say the crimes in this story are pure evil and horrendous. P.I. Marlee Frampton is after a stolen baby ring. The vile members of this ring search for pregnant women and when they have the chance they grab the woman slit the woman's throat and cut the baby out of the woman's womb. Marlee ends up in Cooper Owens' town of Clearview, Texas while working on her latest case. She believes Cooper's friends Brice and Naomi have adopted a stolen baby. Cooper knows better.
There's plenty of action and suspense in this story. The tension I felt throughout kept me turning the pages and reading as fast as I could to see how Ms. Grant resolved all the conflict. I really enjoyed this book.
