If you want to read a book that grips from the first page to the last look no further! Ms Grant had me on the edge of my seat in parts of this story. Such a fantastic book! So glad Cooper got his happy ever after! Don’t miss out on a fabulous series by amazing romance author! She hits it out of the park every time!! Just like this one. Bring on the next book please. Happy reading everyone
WOW..... What a dynamic shocking Prologue! Marlee's strong no nonsense character is introduced during a traumatic event that changes her life forever. This prologue then leads the reader 10 years later into a deep well written story line that will keep the reader at the edge of their seat.
Marlee's character shows the reader what happens to a person who though dedicated to stopping baby kidnappings doesn't keep balance in their life. Marlee's inability to let go of the past changes her forever and not always for the good. Watching her maneuver through her life and the introduction of Cooper into her space created many emotions in this reader.
Cooper is lost.... plain and simple he is not sure what do do with his life. When Marlee falls into his path he losses his balance trying to keep track of her. There is much to like about Cooper. He is a great friend, son and willing to help anyone. He has a strong moral code and let's not forget he's HOT!
For villain's in the book there is some unexpected ones which keeps the reader from figuring out the solution quickly. I liked this part of not knowing.
For me the moral of the story was that sometimes you have to let go of loved ones and/or tragic things in your life to live a life you love and to open yourself to loving another and letting them in to love you.
Every reader will enjoy this book because there is love, action and drama in it. Will you read it? I'd love to hear what you think about the ending.
This book clicks many genre boxes: Horror, thriller, PI, cowboy, romance all in a hard to put down, page turning story.
This is the first book that I have read from this author. There are so many characters, that I had to highlight and bookmark each person, to remember who they were, how they were connected to the other characters and what they did for a living. It would have been most helpful to have one of those Character Lists at the front of the book, not only for those reading it as a stand alone, but also for those who have read the previous books, but not recently. That is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, I thought it was marvelous.
Ten years ago pregnant Macey Frampton, was taking a walk during the day, when she was grapped, her baby ripped from her body and then murdered. Broad daylight, but no one saw anything. And the horror here is that, this is not a figment of the author's mind, but are real thing that is happening in the world. Her twin sister, Marlee, a policewoman at the time, devastated by the loss of her sister and niece and by the lack of progress on the case, left the force and became a PI. Now her life is chasing after kidnapped infants, sometimes finding the baby alive, sometimes not having survived, but too many times not finding them at all. She works alone with a few contacts, and is burned out, but a new case has brought her to Clearview Texas, where she meets Cooper Owens. Cooper is ex military, helps out his friends, but right now is rudderless, not knowing what he wants to do with his life, and hoping to find a woman that will be his other half. The first time he lays eyes on Marlee, he believes she is it. And while he wants to help her with her mission, which has her constantly on the move, Clearview is his home. While both are too cowardly to tell the other how they feel, danger lurks, to seperate them permanently.
I read an ARC from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
This is the first book by this author that I have read, but it won’t be the last. Ms. Grant has written a fast-paced story that kept me reading well into the night. It deals with a difficult subject and has some scenes that are hard to read, especially for a mother and grandmother.
Looking for a Cowboy is Book #5 in the Heart of Texas Series. It can be read as a standalone. I am looking forward to starting with Book #1 and reading the rest of the series and then rereading Looking for a Cowboy.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
The beginning of this book was hard as you want Marlee to find the missing baby but since this is book 5 in a series and you know the people, you don't want the baby to be the one with Brice and Naomi. You know they can't be involved in something illegal but if they did get a baby that was stolen, then they are going to be heartbroken.
I won't give any details away as you want to get the answers as the book progresses, and there are many twists and turns, lots of intrigue, betrayal, and a growing romance between Cooper and Marlee.
What a great bunch of characters from previous books that can keep up with their lives and how intertwined these guys are. There really are a "band of brothers" and can rely on each other when things get tough and that is when they rally together.
Since this book was a bit more intense and parts were hard to read, I took time to read it over a weekend Only thing that I wish is but not realistic is that Marlee found her niece at the end. It was great how Cooper and Marlee each worked together to form not only a romance but a partnership so that they can continue to look for these stolen babies.
Wow. This story has an intense subject matter. It was suspenseful as well as a sweet romance. This is the first entry into this series but I believe it is also fine as a standalone book. I chose it because I'm a total pushover for cowboys. What can I say?
Thank you to St. Martin's and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is the 5th book in the Heart of Texas series. I am a huge fan of this series and did enjoy this one, but not as much as some of the previous titles. For me, it lacked the excitement of the other books. It was still a good read. It tells the story of Marlee Frampton, who is a private investigator, working on a case that leads her to Clearview. The case is personal to her. Copper Owens makes it his business when he discovers she is investigating his friends. The more they are together the more things heat up.
I can honestly say I don’t know why I didn’t connect with these particular characters. The story is well written, it has a great premise, but it lacked that connection for me, but I am sure other readers will find the connection that wasn’t there for me.
I was provided a copy of this book by NetGalley for an honest review.
An incredibly intense book that makes you want to cheer for the good guys!
When her sister was killed and her baby stolen, Marlee Frampton went on a decade long search for the ring of those who trafficked in babies.
When her search brought her to Clearview, Texas and to Cooper Owens it changed her life.
This is a fantastic book in The Heart of Texas Series kudos to Donna Grant
This book has it all: romance, suspense and non-stop action. Although part of a series this story can be read as a standalone story and I recommend it.
Cooper falls for the pretty redhead visitor to this small town in Texas. When Marlee explains why she is visiting, Cooper and his close friends can't help but get involved to help discover and disband an illegal adoption ring. It can be a bit gruesome at times, but they're few and far between.
The plotline will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's a book that's hard to put down until finished: I couldn't. Can't wait to see whose story is next in this great series by Donna Grant.
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
Cowboys, suspense, romance and a crime story all in one make for a compelling read. Tough subject matter includes murder, kidnapping, illegal adoption rings, pregnant women being killed for their unborn babies. Add in a very determined private investigator who will do anything to find out what happened to her sister, some wonderful cowboys and other friends and family and you’ve got a terrific read. More hard core than I’d have thought, but kept me glued to my kindle. Ive only read one of the series and it wasn’t a problem, but I will be going to read the others immediately.
This is the fifth book of the series Heart of Texas. And I really, really love how this series is progressing. It is not as intense as the Sons of Texas, but it is equally heart stopping and heart warming.
We have been reading about Cooper since Brice and his brother Caleb, grew up. And for him to have his own HEA, it is a really good treat.
The thing with this books are the unexpected adventures that these men have to face. Mind you, they are not simple everyday problems, but ones that we are not expecting. That is why, this series is a good one.
The story line for this book was so heartbreaking. From the start till the end. You can feel every emotions the characters experience. Pain, fear, that undying hope, only to be taken away...and love. Family love...and the love for that special person.
I will not go deep, but I can assure you, that you will love these men as you read more about them.
Looking forward to the next book.
Looking for a Cowboy by Donna Grant is the fifth book in the Heart of Texas series. Grant delivered a swoon-worthy romance and a nail-biting case that shed light on a relevant and terrifying issue.
Looking for a Cowboy is part of a series but each book holds its own with a full romance and suspenseful plot. However, I recommend reading the series in the order of their release. Friendships and relationships are better enjoyed over the course of the series.
Coffee Dates With Looking For A Cowboy
First Date: We are back in Clearview,, Texas, and this is Cooper Owens’ story. Cooper is at a bit of crossroads. His friends are settling down and while he enjoys helping, he isn’t quite sure wants he wants to do. Enter P.I. Marlee Frampton. An overworked, driven redhead who has come to Clearview just as his friends are celebrating their new arrival. The tale that unfolds is intense, sweet and addictive.
Second Date: I loved the attraction and chemistry. You could feel it sizzling off the page of my Kindle as soon as Cooper and Marlee meet. But Marlee is investigating his friends for a possible baby abduction. Even as mad as he is, he can’t stop thinking about her. Marlee can’t believe she laid her cards on the table like that and takes steps to protect the innocent.
Third Date: I loved seeing familiar faces and worried about our young couple. Marlee shared things that ripped my heart out. But this is Clearview and Cooper and his friends always do the right thing. I loved seeing how everything came together and loved the growing relationship that developed. Despite the suspense, we get tender moments & developments that will make romance readers happy.
Looking for A Cowboy was an addictive, swoon-worthy romance and while the investigation took center stage, it didn’t damper the romantic elements, heat or warm fuzzy feelings that only the Heart of Texas can bring.
I recently discovered Donna Grant's writing and now I want to read them all! I loved this book and couldn't put it down. I cannot wait to read more from Donna!!
Thriller with a side of romance:
I found this book quite gut wrenching at times due to the difficult subject matter of babies being cut from their mothers and then the women being killed. Whilst there was a sweet romance what took prominence was a deeper, more sinister side surrounding the investigation. I did enjoy the suspense and there were plenty of twists to keep me guessing.
Marlee was a tough PI determined to get to the bottom of the case after it had hit close to home with her own sister being affected. She joined forces with Cooper and they worked well together. Their attraction was quite instant but a relationship was slower to develop.
I found the revealing of the plot got a little convoluted towards the end with multiple points of view being given with little indication that it was jumping and who the new "voice" was. This was book 5 in the series and I hadn't read any of the previous ones. Whilst I was able to follow along, I felt I missed out a bit especially when references were made to some of the individuals and events from previous stories.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
Donna was not kidding that this had more sensitive subject. This one definitely had more of an investigative romantic suspense aspect to it. Needless to say, I still enjoyed it. It worked very well. Marlee and Cooper worked very well as a couple and I look forward to Jace's story. I have to say I'm really enjoying this series from Donna.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
In ‘Looking For A Cowboy’ we meet Cooper Owens. Cooper has lived in Clearview all his life. He loves everything about his life, his friends and his town. But he still hasn’t really found something that he wants to make his career of. And above all he has never met a woman that he wants to spend forever with. But when a beautiful stranger walks into Clearview, he knows his life will never be the same.
Private Investigator Marlee Frampton has traveled to Clearview following a lead. Marlee’s life has revolved around finding missing baby’s who have been brutally cut from their mother’s bodies for years. Although Marlee really would love to have a break, she can’t rest until she finds the answer to her latest case. But meeting Cooper changes everything. For the first time in almost ten years, Marlee would like to spend time with someone. And for the first time since her sister was murdered, she feels save.
‘Looking For A Cowboy’ was definitely a nice read. From the moment I started reading I was intrigued by Marlee’s story, and I really wanted to know how this case would end. The case itself was horrible though. Pregnant woman who’s baby’s are being cut from their bodies, before they are killed. Since I’m 22 weeks pregnant at the moment, this felt even more horrible than it would feel normally I think. And I was determined to find out how this case would be solved. It definitely kept me sitting on the edge of my seat.
The romance between Cooper and Marlee was sweet. And I really enjoyed reading their story. But the romance was also pretty damn fast, and I would have liked to have a little more build up. For two people who had been alone for a long time, they pretty much instantly started a relationship. I just found that a little strange.
But overall ‘Looking For A Cowboy’ was another fun read by Donna Grant. I loved the little town of Clearview, and enjoyed reading about the different friendships. And I really look forward to reading more books in this series.
*I received this book free from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley.*
Marlee's life turned upside down when her sister was murdered and her baby stolen from her womb. After that, being a cop wasn't enough for her. She turned to the life of a PI. While always searching for her niece, she also tried to help others find their missing children. It was definitely a life of sacrifice and little reward, but Marlee didn't care.
After the military Cooper spent his time helping his friends. He may not have had a 9-5 job, but he had the luxury not to need one, and helping his friends meant more to him than anything.
When Marlee's job brings her to Cooper's small part of Texas he can't help but be smitten with the beautiful red-head, but when she straightforwardly tells him why she's there it'll crush any hope he had of wooing her. That is, until he decides that he can't stay away from her, and he can't help but want to help her.
Looking for a Cowboy is a sweet romance wrapped up in the sinister world of black market babies. The chemistry between Marlee and Cooper drew me in, but the suspense kept me turning the pages. It was a fascinating read that held my attention to the very last page.
I enjoyed the connection between the characters and wish that I would've read the previous four books in the Heart of Texas series so that I could have fully understand some of their discussions. However, not having done so did not take away anything from this book, I'm sure it only would have enhanced it.
Wow that was a hard one to get through. Not because it was bad, but the subject matter is a tough one to read. Marlee is a former cop turned PI who is searching for a killer. Not just any killer, but one who murders pregnant women to steal their babies from the womb. Um.....I have no words. Her search takes her to Clearview, TX where she’s sure Bruce and Naomi (previous characters in the series) have adopted one of the stolen babies she’s searching for. Through his, she meets Cooper. Financially solvent, Cooper helps his friends and the town, but after meeting Marlee, joins in her search for the murderous kidnappers.
There’s steam, murder, and friendship. Overall a good read. Liked this one much better than Danny and Skylar’s story.
Thanks to SMP for the ARC. This had no bearing on my review.
4 star
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, struggles, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
The Christmas Cowboy Hero (Heart of Texas, #1)
Cowboy, Cross My Heart (Heart of Texas #2)
My Favorite Cowboy (Heart of Texas #3)
A Cowboy Like You (Heart of Texas #4)
This is Marlee and Cooper’s story. Marlee was happy with her life until someone murdered her sister and kidnapped her baby. Now she is investigating the Harpers and she had to come to Texas to do that. She knows that if she can solve the case she just might be able to find her child. Now Cooper is helping but can he keep her safe as they learn the truth? Or will he lose what he never knew he needed?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I recommend this book.
What a strong feeling and intense book to read! But it is so good! Just a very hard topic to digest. It brings about so many emotions - anger, rage, hate, sorrow, determination, love, family, friendship, etc. But Ms. Grant wrote a doozy of a story! I loved the instant connection Cooper and Marlee felt. They knew they were meant to be. And throughout this journey, their bond only strengthened. They were good for each other and understood while accepting the other's drive. Marlee fit in with all of Cooper's "family," and together they made a great team. That is probably my favorite part - the strong familial bond of all the characters and that they graciously accept new members.
