Don't be fooled by the title, this is not your regular cowboy story. Some of the subjects can be offensive to some people. Marlee is an ex-cop trying to find her sister's murderer and black market babies cut out of murdered mothers. She follows a lead that brings in Texas to a couple who might be behind the scheme. while there she befriends Cooper to try and get closer to the family. The story is dramatic, with some suspense and brings some intense emotions. I volunteered to review this story.
Another great story by Donna Grant and a great addition to the Heart of Texas series. Dealing with adoptions and some of the pros and cons, this is a great weekend/get away from everything book.
Reading the prologue I knew this was going to be a gut wrenching story because I didn't make it past the second page without crying. Yes I am at times an emotional reader and that has a lot to do with the way a story is written and this one had my heart stopping a few times.
Marlee was a Police Officer when her twin sister was murdered and her baby was taken, after seeing that this wasn't a random act Marlee left the force and became a Private Investigator that works with families to get back the children that were taken from them so heinously. Her latest case has taken her to the small town of Clearview, Texas.
Cooper Owens, former Air Force Combat Controller now lives to help his friends. Cooper knows the horrors in the world and can scope out trouble a mile away so when he meets Marlee he knows she's hiding something and he's determined to find out what it is and make sure everyone he loves is safe.
Although this is the fifth book in the series, this is the first book I have read. In fact it's the first book by this author that I have read. I know I'm late to the party, but better late than never. This book was fast paced with lots of action, it can definitely be read as a standalone if that is the way you choose to read it. I enjoyed the secondary characters so much I have added their books to my never-ending TBR shelf. I am looking forward to Jace's story, he's been through a LOT and this guy needs his HEA like now!
If you enjoy cowboys that have a panache for helping others grab a copy of this book now, you wont be disappointed!
Happy Reading!!!
**I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for my Blog, Nadine's Obsessed with Books**
Marlee turned p.i. after her twin sister was killed and her niece was taken from the womb and all these clues lead her to texas where she can find the ones that's doing this and the latest kidnapping. Marlee was not ready for a bunch of military men to start helping to bring this organization down. Cooper is a strong handsome man that helps people around town until he finds what he wants. That all stops when marlee enters the town and all he wants is to help her and protect her.
3.5/5⭐
Looking for a Cowboy is a new stand alone western romance in the Heart of Texas series. A series that believes in soul mates and supporting your family no matter what.
Marlee has spent the last ten years of her life as a PI hunting down abducted infants, most of the time it isn't a happy ending and it's taking its toll on her, but she can't imagine doing anything else with her life. Her latest case brings her to Clearview Texas where she seems to hit a dead end but finds Cooper Owen. Cooper is looking for something meaning full to do with his life, he's a vet who's bored with his day to day. When he sets sights on Marlee he immediately feels a connection. He will stop at nothing to help Marlee stop the monsters harming pregnant women and abducting babies, and will do whatever it takes to keep Marlee in his future.
Like the rest of the Heart of Texas series this has a strong leading characters and a great sturdy cast of secondary characters surrounding them. Marlee is brave and selfless. She is such an unbelievable strong character, I don't know if I would have the willpower to handle such an important and emotional job as she does. Cooper was such a southern gentleman. The complete package, handsome, polite, cooks, loves his momma, and able to protect the woman he loves. The romance between them was very much insta love (I'm talking a few days lol) but this is a series that heavily believes in soulmates and love at first sight, so I expected it. The hot and steamy intimate scenes bad up for the slightly cheesy love at first sight aspect.
Looking for a Cowboy has a story line that is interesting and fast-paced which kept me turning pages and not wanting to put it down. It also made me fall in love with Cooper's best friend Jace and I can't wait for his book!
5 She Gets More Than She’s Looking For Stars!!
This book is not what I expected it to be based on the cover but boy am I glad because it’s so much more than a woman looking for a cowboy… it’s a woman that’s looking for answers and is taking on some pretty powerful people that have devastated her life…and she won’t stop until she gets what she’s searching for!
Marlee is a beautiful woman and she’s hit the radar of many of the residents of Clearview, Texas especially Cooper Owens not only because she’s beautiful, but his gut is telling him she’s hiding something and that something affects the people that Cooper holds close to his heart!
My heart truly hurt for Marlee when this book started. I can’t even imagine surviving what she’s been through and this even changed everything about her and she has a new mission to find the horrible people behind the horrific events happening in the Southwest. I have to give her credit though, she’s tenacious in getting the answers and when it effects Coopers friends, it becomes an entirely new ball game. There’s just now way that I thought the Harpers were involved at all in how they became parents.
Ms. Grant did a spectacular job of giving me a nail biting read with the level of detail to each and every scene and the nastiness of babies being taken away from their mothers the way they are. I literally had no idea of the why’s and who’s until it was revealed and I even let out a gasp or two because come on!! I literally said out loud… NO WAY!!!
While this is book five in this series, and my first book by Ms. Grant, at no point did I feel like I was lost with the characters and the town of Clearview. I can assure you though that I’m definitely going back to read the previous books because I’ve fallen in love with Clearview, Texas and it’s inhabitants!
A romantic suspense with a chilling tale.
Marlee is on the chase, and this could be the one to help solve the one case closest to her heart. Finding herself in Texas, she isn't used to having help, but Cooper becomes invaluable, in more ways than one.
Cooper knows the stranger in his small town isn't just a random visitor. As they get close, he wants to help her, it's his way, but also to clear his friends of suspicion.
Working together, danger seems to be following them, each in a different trap. Marlee discovers one in her inner circle isn't what she seems, and everything seems to go wrong. Now she's fighting for her own life. Cooper is running out of time to find her. As the clock runs down, their love might be the thing which keeps both alive until they're reunited.

While Looking for a Cowboy is a romance, the subject matter could be a little more "touchy" for some: murder, kidnapping and adoption. Marlee's nightmare of terror and hopelessness has shaped her present and impedes her future happiness. But a lead in the crime she is investigating takes her in a direction she never imagined. Will Cooper's presence change what could have been the worst moments? Will her determination to solve the mystery prevent her from seeing a more rosy point of view? Will she realize that happiness depends on her?
Looking for a Cowboy is the fifth book in the Heart of Texas series. This captivating read pulled me in from the beginning and kept me riveted until the end. It had a fast-paced, suspenseful storyline that flowed seamlessly. It was an emotional story that pulls at your heartstrings. Overall, it was another amazing read in this amazing series. I can't wait to read the next book.
This book was very my original its not a topic I have ever read that I can think of. This series has been so good and you never know what's going to happen next and that was very much the case with this book as well. It was very intense and yet disturbing at the same time. I liked this group of characters and the relationship they have, if you don't have that kind of friendship it make you want one for sure. There was one thing in the end I wish would have happened but, I am sure that this is not the end for this group of characters. There is sexual content and strong language in this book so it may not be suitable for all. This book really did not disappoint it was hard to put down for sure. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
LOOKING FOR A COWBOY is the fifth instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult HEART OF TEXAS romantic suspense series. This is former US Air Force airman Cooper Owens, and former Shell Ridge, California police officer turned PI Marlee Frampton’s story line. LOOKING FOR A COWBOY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from several third person perspectives including Marlee and Cooper LOOKING FOR A COWBOY follows former Shell Ridge, California police officer turned PI Marlee Frampton as she investigates a potential serial killer who kills pregnant women then selling their babies for profit. Ten years earlier Marlee’s pregnant twin Macey was murdered, and her unborn child went missing without a trace. Fast forward to present day, wherein Marlee Frampton, now a PI, continues the search for her sister’s killer, reuniting other families along the way. Marlee’s latest clues take our heroine to Clearview, Texas where she will begin an investigation into a local couple, Clayton and Abby East, who recently adopted a new born baby boy. Enter Cooper Owens, Clayton’s friend, and the man with whom Marlee would fall in love. What ensues is the ongoing investigation into the murders and new born abductions, and the potential fall-out as both Marlee and Cooper find themselves caught in a trap meant to destroy them both.
Marlee Frampton was never going to stop searching for her sister’s killer, and the now ten year old niece she has never met but Marlee’s obsession brings her to Clearview, Texas, and with the possibility of her own happily ever after. To Marlee’s surprise, all of Cooper’s friends including Navy SEAL Clayton East and Abby Harper (The Christmas Cowboy Hero #1), Brice Harper (Cowboy Cross My Heart #2), former Green Beret Caleb Harper and veterinarian Audrey Martinez (My Favorite Cowboy #3); PI Cash, and Jace Wilder pull themselves together in an effort to take down a child abduction ring. Cooper Owens’ attraction to Marlee Frampton was immediate but within hours of meeting our story line heroine Cooper struggled with Marlee’s secrets about why she was searching in Clearview, Texas. When Marlee finally revealed the truth about her investigation, Cooper was the first to volunteer to help Marlee in her need for justice and revenge.
The relationship between Marlee and Cooper is one of immediate attraction but reality of Marlee’s appearance in Clearview Texas pushed all of Cooper’s buttons until the truth is revealed. Cooper knew immediately that he wanted Marlee Frampton for himself but there was definite competition, in only for the short term, for Marlee’s attention. Marlee Frampton never had time to settle down in the wake of her obsession with finding her sister’s killer(s). Meeting Cooper Owens stirred something deep within our story line heroine but her investigation is about to place Cooper in the direct line of fire. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
As mentioned earlier, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters many of whom we have me in previous instalments. We are also introduced to Cooper’s widowed mother Betty Owens, and the requisite evil may of may not have a familiar face.
LOOKING FOR A COWBOY is a story of murder, desperation, power and control. A story of friendships, relationships, family and love that follows a sickening business of baby brokering and killing, for the right price. The premise is heart breaking and emotional; the romance is seductive and captivating; the characters are energetic, wonderful and spirited.

Entertaining, interesting suspense, and a sweet romance. Marlee’s pregnant sister was murdered and the baby was stolen, so Marlee has been on the hunt for her niece and the bad people that have killed and kidnapped. It’s a dark topic; I’m not a huge fan of the suspense aspect being about baby trafficking, but it was interesting. Marlee gets some clues that lead her to Texas, where she’s investigating a couple that recently adopted a baby, and she just so happens to meet Cooper. They have an instant connection, but Marlee isn’t exactly truthful, not a fan of that deception. I like Marlee though; she has a good heart and she’s a strong character. Cooper is a nice guy; love how supportive he is, and he’s a good fit for Marlee. Sweet and steamy chemistry between these two! I’m not a huge fan of chapters from the villian’s POV; takes some of the suspense away for me, but it is interesting to get more details about their motivations for doing the bad things they do. Like getting caught up on previous characters too; love that they all work together and are ready to jump in to help do the right thing. Wanted a bit more for the ending, but overall, an enjoyable read. A good series so far!
While this is the fifth book in this series I think it worked well as a standalone book as well. Back in the heart of Texas, Cooper is feeling restless. He isn't sure what direction he wants his life to go in. He enjoys what he does, and being able to help his friends when needed has been nice, but it doesn't drive him. When Marlee, an outsider enters town, it sparks an interest. However when he finds out she is investigating one of his friends he doesn't take it lightly.
Marlee is investigating a series of murders that killed women along the state, and took their babies. She is determined to stop this crime spree, especially since it has special ties to her family. Marlee is passionate, has true grit, and determined to see it through, even when at a detriment to herself. Finally having some help from Cooper and his friends is nice, but can it last.
I loved the chemistry of Cooper and Marlee, and how willing Cooper is to help his family and those in need. While this is a heavier topic subject wise, it still moved along at a quick pace, and kept my attention. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is the 5th book in the series but it can be read as a stand-alone. Marlee is a PI and is trying to find children abducted from their mother’s womb and then the mothers are left for dead and the babies sold on the black market. Her search brings her to Clearview, Texas where she meets Cooper. Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and twists and turns. Great chemistry and an entertaining story. I liked it.
This romantic suspense is full of strong, sexy men like Cooper and Jace. There is also a very stubborn female named Marlee who is a wonderful, caring, passionate person, especially for her cause. . The author wrote a story that will definitely have your heart pounding as you quickly turn the pages to solve all the mysteries to find out what is in store for you at the end. I could not put the book down. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Looking for a Cowboy is a ride you need to take. The suspense and danger keep you on the edge of your seat as Marlee is on the hunt to find out how is behind the murders and missing children. I love that there is such a connection between Marlee and Cooper. Cooper is amazing and you will love how he jumps into action once he finds out why Marlee is in town. This book is so good. I couldn't put it down. I loved Cooper and Marlee together so much. I wish they could have their own series taking down the bad guys togehter. You will not want to miss this one.
Cowboys, suspense, romance and family? Check. Although this one deals with a subject that may be difficult for some readers, the early copy that I read kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting to find out what happened next.
I loved the family of Cooper's heart and the way they welcomed Marlee into their fold, as well as the reminder that families are made of both of blood and the heart. Fans of BJ Daniel’s will love this combination of cowboys, suspense and romance.
Looking for a Cowboy is book five in Donna Grant’s heart of Texas series. I’ve skipped around in the reading order a bit (only read a couple of the other books) and I can tell you that while they are written as standalone titles, there are enough mentions of previous main characters in this book that it can raise some questions about how all of them connect. So it seems I’m going to have to read the entire series to satisfy my curiosity regarding how they all fit and what their backstory really is. Despite that, Cooper and Marlee’s story is a good read.
NICUnurse’s Rating: My only complaint with how this book ends is that I didn’t get the ultimate resolution that I really, really wanted. With that said, that’s a very personal opinion, so I’m not going to let it color my review as that’s the author’s prerogative. Maybe she’s got that planned for a future book, and I just don’t know that yet. However, for the sake of full disclosure, I have to admit that I feel like each time I pick up a book by this author, it’s a bit of a gamble. I’ve loved some of her books, and I’ve not cared for some of them. That seems to be true in about equal measure. But it’s enough that I keep going back, hoping for a tie-breaker, and this book seems to be just that. It helped to tip the scale to the side of “I like most of this author’s books,” so I’ll keep reading them. This story had action and suspense. It also had romance and a good bit of emotion. And there was a resolution that leads to a HEA. All of these elements added up to a page-turning and sometimes heart-pounding good read. If you like romantic suspense/thrillers, I think you’ll like this book.
I give Looking for a Cowboy by Donna Grant 4 out of 5 stars!
Ten years ago cop Marlee's sister was murdered and her baby cut from her and stolen. Now her life's mission is to shut down illegal adoptions. During her current investigation she meets Ben. Both of them are attracted to each other. But what will he think when he finds out that she is investigating his friends?
A romance blossoms between a cowboy and P.I. when he works with her to find the truth.
Romantic suspense can be tricky to pull off, but Donna Grant did a great job. She balanced the relationship development between Marlee and Cooper with keeping the suspense and mystery. I was invested in both characters and story from the beginning.
I haven't read all the books in this series, but I definitely want to go back and start from the beginning.
