I love starting a sequel after ending with a cliffhanger in the last book. I loved how badass the characters were (gives me Elizabeth Swan in the latter part of the POTC franchise vibes at times) and how she doesn't take crap from anyone. Seriously - reading about strong-willed women is my jam. I thought the pacing was nice and the ending was satisfying to end the duology. Very well done!
Young writes a stunning seafaring tale. It is amazing to see how well she crafts this world and these characters. I will admit that I am a fan of Young's writing so this story is so incredibly enveloping.
This was such a fantastic sequel to Fable! Full of action, intrigue, deception and some amazing found family. This series has made me fall in love with the author’s writing and story telling abilities. I also now want to read all things pirates and sea travel. Highly recommend this series to all ages, it will be sure to captivate.
I had to DNF this book. I attempted to read it, in multiple formats (book and audiobook) and it just was not grabbing me at all. I don't know if it's the writing, or the pacing (which I have heard called fast paced but felt extremely slow to me), but I was just not able to care at all about what was going on with the main character of this book. I give 3 stars because I have friends that have just raved about this book.
This is the second book in the Fable duology. I really enjoyed Fable and I read that book at a time where I was LONGING for books about Pirates. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the series, I think I actually enjoyed my read-through of Fable a bit better than I did Namesake. I somewhat think the end was a bit rushed and I felt unsatisfied. I still adore everything Adrienne Young write though so i will definitely continue to read her stories.
Namesake, sequel to Fable, continues the high-stakes nautical fantasy that we fell in love with in book one. Fable encounters friends and goes and people in between. With a twist that will leave you wanting more and characters you'll love (or love to hate) you'll be happy you picked this one up! Side note: The cover is gorgeous and books one and two make a whole picture, but with key differences to Fable's appearance.
Namesake is book 2 in the Fable series and this story was just as beautiful as its cover. A total cover buy because it pairs so well with book one! A must read for middle school +. A YA friendly romance adventure. It’s hard to say too much in fear of spoiling this one for you! Stop reading reviews and pick up this one. You won’t regret it!
A huge thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e-arc of this gem! I highly recommend this one! The author is such an amazing storyteller. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
I attempted to read the first book in this series Fable and decided to DNF around 18%. I just could not get into the story and wasn’t taking anything in, I think this may have been a timing issue for me. I am going to attempt to try the series again another time
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. I continued to love Young’s world and Fable as a character. It felt even more fast paced to me as the world building was mostly done I the first book. I still felt like Fable grew as a character and the ending was satisfying. I also appreciate a good duology rather than attempting to drag out a story to make a trilogy!
I think I can safely say that all Adrienne Young books will receive at least 4 stars from me. Namesake was one of them, with a solid 5 stars!
As the proud daughter of a seafarer, I adore pirate books and this duology wasn't an exception. Filled with twists and turns, Namesake kept me at the edge of my seat. Everything was tied op nicely and it was a great conclusion. We got to see some other sides of the main characters, which gave them more depth.
Like with Young's other books, the pacing and writing was excellent. I highly recommend this book to YA readers!
What an incredible series. Highly, highly recommend this duet.
I will read anything and everything this author writes!
I'm not usually a fan of pirate books or books set on the sea. I am extremely afraid of water, especially open water, so I tend to shy away from these types of books. But, Adrienne Young is an auto buy author for me, so I thought I'd give it a go.
Since this is a sequel, I won't give any spoilers. But just know, this book is everything and more. The characters, the setting, the story, the relationships. Everything.
Also the cover... it's one of the most beautiful covers I've ever seen.
this was enjoyable! a nice conclusion to the opening title, I still wasn't overly "wowed" by it. maybe it's the piratey theme? who knows. i really liked seeing more depth from the characters this trip around- no pun intended
A fantastic sequel! The characters were well written and the worldbuilding was beautifully done. Fable is such an inspiring character.
Phenomenal and I got super emotional at the end
I love this story of Fable & West and I cannot wait to read more about this world.
Adrienne Young books always leave me so happy these are the type of stories I love
I really enjoyed this book! The pacing was better in this one and I loved seeing how everything ended!!
This was a great end to the duology. The vibe of this book was different, but it worked. The characterization of this book was so well rounded.
I remember when I finished the book, Fable and I was in pins and needles after that cliffhanger. I needed Namesake. I was dying to know what happened next. However, when I did get my hands on Namesake, I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to read it. I’m glad I waited to read it, otherwise, I might not have enjoyed it as much as I did now. In fact, I almost missed my stop one afternoon because I was so engrossed in reading, lol.
I started Namesake on Tuesday and every day I anticipated when I’d be able to continue reading it. The first few chapters were a bit slow but as the story progressed and I got in deeper and deeper, I enjoyed the intrigue and plot twists.
I saw a softer side of Fable that I found at odds with her character in the first book – I mean, I wanted her to be stronger, fiercer. Alternatively, I liked the darker side to West though I didn’t agree with some of his decisions. I enjoyed the emergence of the new characters who added value to the story as a whole.
Overall, in this duology I loved the originality of the concept of gems found in the seas, gem sages, and the dredgers. The plot twists were excellent and I loved that climactic conclusion to the story. Bloody fantastic! The ending was another satisfactory conclusion. The one thing I admired the most was how the author’s writing drew you in with a vividity that left you breathless.
Another fun pirate story, but pacing felt off to me. A fun read, but not sure if I’ll reread it anytime soon.
Overall I thought this was a fantastic sequel to Fable. I liked how the secondary characters were developed and not just there. We get to learn a lot more about Holland and Saint. I really liked the father-daughter relationship that was built. It was a really quick and enjoyable read, but I didn't feel the same level of excitement as Fable. The Marigold crew weren't featured as much in Namesake and I wished there was more of them.
