I LOVED THIS BOOK!

Book 1 was a bit of a slow-burn for me, but I had really high hopes for the sequel. IT. DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT.

I love Fable, I love West, and I LOVE the world Young built here. I hope she considers going beyond the duology someday. I would love to return.

I read this book the day I received it back in September and since then... I have read Fable & Namesake twice. This is my favorite duology ever. Namesake picks up right where Fable ended. This book is just as fantastic as the first. Young’s writing and world building is phenomenal. I want to go into detail about why I loved this book so much but I don’t want to give away any spoilers. JUST READ IT!!

Amazing! Definitely my favourite books of 2020.
I love the found family aspect of this story. The dynamics between the characters was fun to see unfold. The writing style was really easy to follow and flowed well.
I gave this book 5 stars obviously! Highly recommend. I love Adrienne Young’s books and will definitely be getting every single one she writes.

This was a really good read, the characters were great and it was a great sequel to the Fable book. I really enjoyed getting through this book and look forward to more from the author.

This was the sequel to Fable and continued with Fable’s abduction by her father’s worst enemy, Zola. As Fable tried to decipher Zola’s motives, she was reacquainted with people from her past, both familiar and blood related, many of whom also had alternative motives. Fable tried to stay once step ahead of those that tried to hurt her or those she loved.

As with the previous story, this was fast paced and very vividly described. I enjoyed the many tension filled scenes Fable found herself in and trying to intellectually outmaneuver her powerful opponents. All the pieces came together in a very dramatic conclusion.

This was a very well written engaging YA story that readers of adventures will enjoy.

An ARC was given for an honest review.

:Helmsman. Dredger. Trader. Orphan. Father. Daughter."

This was my most hotly anticipated book (sequel) for 2021, and I have been fortunate enough to be able to read it now. Thank you Netgally and St. Martin's Press! This second part of this duet DOES NOT disappoint. I absolutely LOVED it.

Adrienne Young's writing will transport you out to the high seas into the treacherous world of trade.

Ready to start anew with West and the crew of the Marigold, Fable's quest is short-lived. She becomes a pawn in things much bigger than herself. The root of these issues stem from her mother, Isolde, and the secrets she kept..Fable delivers daring, sweeping moves to save those she loves, even at the sacrifice of herself. She is the heroine this world needs.

"We were salt and sand and sea and storm."

If I thought I loved Fable, then I am in love with, obsessed with, never going to love another, with Namesake.

Our badass, cut-throat, loving, spectacular heroine... Fable is everything I wanted in a pirate queen. I say Queen, because I mean... Look at her. This book was fast-paced, high-stakes, and filled to the brim with sea-faring drama.

And that ending? *chefs kiss*

I'm not even sure what I expected this book to be, but it surpassed all of my expectations and delivered on the perfect ending for the perfect duology.

Namesake by Adrienne Young is the riveting conclusion to Fable’s tale of her adventures of finding her place in the world.

What I Loved

This story moved me to tears as only a story that hits at the heart of the truths about love, and its many challenges can do. Familial love, the loved one feels for a soulmate, and the loved one feels for friends, mentors, and other important people in our lives, they are all described with beauty and truth that hit at my very core. To find love, to be able to give love, and to make hard choices in the name of love are all part of the human condition, and they hold a power that is unexplainable and as miraculous as Fable’s abilities as a gem sage.

I loved watching as Fable tried to outwit Holland. Holland is a force in the gem trade. No one would even dare to cross her until Fable came into her life. Watching the match between Holland and Fable play out created a tension in the story kept me glued to the pages, and as I both feared defeat and hoped for the happy ending.

I love the romance between Fable and West. Even though it started rather abruptly in the first book, watching it bloom and grow even when the odds were stacked against them is beautiful and life-affirming. They are so well matched, which is only evident once we see how they handle the many challenges together.

I loved finding out how Fable got her name. It turns out to be a great story by the end of the book, and I agreed with her that I thought her mother gave her that name for a few different reasons that I won’t mention here. I will let you find that out when you read the book.

To Read or Not to Read

Fable and Namesake represent two halves to a whole, and you cannot possibly read one without reading the other. Read this beautifully written and spellbinding tale of family and love. It will stay with you and warm your heart at unexpected junctures throughout the day.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Felt like the two books could have been combined into one. Exciting, interesting world, but more meandering than building action. I was surprised when it ended; I felt like I missed the climax. Also not sure how I feel about such easy acceptance of violence from fathers/boyfriends. That said, a satisfying conclusion.

I really enjoyed Fable, I started reading it thinking it was a story about a young woman, fighting to survive. When I finished it, I realised it was so much more, and that I needed to know what happened next for Fable, West and the crew.

Namesake was adventurous and heart warming and unexpected. There were twists that I could feel coming, but were surprising in their outcome and delivery. The characters developed well, with more detail coming to light about their complex histories and motivations for the actions they each chose to take.

Fable and Namesake are definitely a new favourite and will get a reread very soon! Check out my full review on www.twwbookclub.co.uk, publishing 15.11.20

This is a great series! I have really liked the last 3-4 books I've read by Adrienne Young - just excellent YA novels with enough depth that adults will enjoy them as well. So far they've been pretty quick reads with strong characters, great world building, just excellent stories. Namesake is the finale of the Fable duology, and picks up right where Fable left off. This series has more of a piratey feel, good guys, bad guys, diving for treasure, action on the high seas, plottings and betrayals, etc - but it also has a strong core story about family and love and strength of character. I very much recommend this series (do read Fable first!). Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press / Wednesday Books for the e-arc. 4.5 stars!

I knew going in that I would love this book, after being blown away by Fable, and I was right. I love this book. Fable faces some serious challenges here, and there are some hefty revelations.

The crew of the Marigold didn't play as large a role in this one, which I was a bit disappointed about, but it also felt like the right decision, what with all the other plot going on here. Though, I did enjoy seeing another side of Koy.

Fable grows as a character, and she and West have their relationship sorely tested by both their actions and choices and revelations about their pasts. West makes some questionable decisions but he does so with Fable in mind, so I forgave him for it.

My favorite things about this novel are Fable's evolving relationship with Saint and her memories of her mother. There is so much more to both that I won't give away, because spoilers, but let's just say there were a few moments near the end that had me crying. And I absolutely, completely love how things wrapped up.

I will keep my fingers crossed for more pirates from Adrienne Young, but at the very least she's going on my must-read list.

An absolute amazing sequel to the first book! I was on the edge of my seat and was so excited to see how everything tied together! The only thing was that some parts of the storyline was a little predictable- but i do love that in books! It made me feel as though everything came together. I’d love to read more on Fable’s world too!

This was so good! If you like pirate books, this book will be perfect for you.

I really like Fable's character. She is strong willed and doesn't need anyone to take care of her. This is something I can appreciate since most female characters are pretty pathetic.

This book resolves most of the problems and cliffhangers that were in "Fable." I was definitely satisfied with the outcomes along with the new twists.

I think you could read this book without reading "Fable" first, but it would be best to start with that first since this is part 2 of the series.

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!

This book exceeded my expectations and was even more of a Rollercoaster with so many twists! I loved it! Thank you so much NetGalley for this book to review.

Beautifully written as always! Young has such a gift for character creation, all with slightly feminist tones, to really make the characters pop! Fable will destroy her world for the greater good and that is admirable.

Namesake Adrienne Young 11/5/2020
When I read the arc for Fable, I was hooked, and it’s sequel does not disappoint! Fraught with adventure, danger, family, love and loss, Fable and her cast of characters weather more storms and come out the other side. Lyrically written, Young has the ability to capture you and weave her stories in a way that places you in the center of it all. Fable finds herself as well as closure with this one, I simply couldn’t put it down!

I'm so incredibly sad the duology is over! I would love more Fable, West, and Saint.

Fable ended in a pretty shocking cliffhanger, if I do say so myself...so diving into Namesake right away was necessary! Thankfully, it picks up right where we left Fable.

I had my suspicions going into Namesake about how it might play out (I'm looking at you, Clove!) and while I wasn't completely incorrect with my guesses, I was blown away by the twists and turns that Adrienne threw in there. Some of the storyline was a tad predictable, but I've noticed that's become typical for YA books and it's not really a big deal for me if I enjoy the plot and characters like I did in this duology. Learning more about Fable, West, and Saint was fantastic, they were made more realistic with their burdens and how they reacted to each hardship. It made me fall in love with each character all over again.

Namesake is a wonderful conclusion to Fable's journey and I so adored reading it!

Thank you Wednesday Books via NetGalley for the e-arc to read and review.

Huge thanks to Netgalley for providing me the eARC for Namesake!

Okay, this duology is so good! I flew through both Fable and Namesake, fully engrossed in Fable's world.

In Namesake, we follow Fable through a new adventure on the Luna with Zola's crew in the Unnamed Sea.

It was a story of adventure, found families, and love and I enjoyed the new characters along with the beloved Marigold crew.

These two books have been some of the more enjoyable reads of mine in the past couple of months, and I look forward to reading Adrienne Young's other titles.

Picking up right where Fable leaves off, this book is riveting from page one. This well-developed world where love is a liability grows in scope as the characters deepen in complexity and connectedness. The story takes turn after turn and takes the reader on a powerful journey. Young is masterful in diving deep into the themes of family and loyalty, love and survival. The characters are so raw and real; they make mistakes and fall into darkness and yet come together in a way that beautifully exemplifies that love is not a liability but may be your greatest strength. This book, like it's predecessor, is hard to put down and keeps you thinking (and feeling) long after you do.
