I don’t know why it took me so long to read this, but I wish I’d read it earlier. I never read the first book, Fable, but I had no trouble keeping track of what was happening in Namesake. While it is the second book to Fable, if you want to read Namesake before Fable, don’t worry - you’ll be able to follow along.
I loved Fable. She’s fiery but she’s also soft - even if she doesn’t seem like it. I was also quite partial to West and Coy (if I misspelled any names, I was listening to the audiobook) - West loves Fable and Coy is just an arrogant, but lovable, side character.
This book’s plot was easy to follow and easy to get into. It’s very well written and it keeps you guessing. I made several guesses about where the gem might be, but never guessed correctly - which frustrated me but I still loved this book.
I recommend it to anyone who loves seafaring books.
I honestly did not realize this was a sequel. But from what I read and could understand without reading book one, I enjoyed. The story kept me interested and intrigued on wanting to go back and read book 1.
Namesake by Adrienne Young is a great conclusion to this duology. This book was fast paced and gripping. I really liked Fable and would recommend this duet to anyone who enjoys young adult fantasy.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Didn't capture my attention and engagement. Interested in trying it again though and hopefully it will take.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. I absolutely enjoyed Fable's character. I absolutely enjoyed this pirate book. I would recommend reading the first book to get to know the characters better but overall this book is well written. Each character is unique. This book makes me feel like I am with the characters instead of just reading about them. This book is in stores for $18.99 (USD).
I really enjoyed reading this one, I adored Fable so much and couldn't wait to get my hands on the sequel. And it lived up to all of my very high expectations.
I loved how totally immersive the writing style was, it felt like I was there right along side Fable. I will definitely be rereading both Fable and Namesake and I would definitely recommend to any fantasy fans!
This series is really great! It definitely is popular for a reason! A lot of series start off really strong and get much worse in the second book, but this is not one of those! This second book was everything I wanted and more!
Love, love LOVE! Namesake takes the world that was built out in Fable and skyrockets it to new heights. I'm obsessed with how Young builds her characters. They're all flawed and maybe a little broken, but at their hearts they are all just trying to survive and protect their own.
I'm also always in for a well-crafted, swoon-worthy pirate. West might not technically be a pirate but... I'm still in.
It was a good read. Well written, I just thought the characters and plot were ok. I just wasn't as excited as I'd hoped.
Namesake by Adrienne Young was a great second book in the Fable series as far as sequels go.
As with any Adrienne Young book, you're going to be in for a fast-paced action-packed romp of a cookie cutter YA Fantasy book. This was my fourth Adrienne Young book to date and it might also be my last for a little while.
Not because Namesake wasn't good. It was! There are some fun twists and some not-twists that I was really hoping for that never materialized.
But because I've found that Adrienne Young doesn't break the YA Fantasy mold, or even really attempt to bend it. A glowing recommendation for some who undoubtedly would just like a comfort read in the genre.
Namesake picks up right where Fable left off and goes about where you'd expect it to as a story. If you've read Fable and liked it, have no hesitation whatsoever about picking up Namesake. It's a great book to help close out the duology and tie off any emotional loose ends.
This book was fast paced and gripping. I enjoyed the first book and this was a nice wrap up. Duologies have become my favorite type of books because they are short, sweet and to the point. I like Fable, she certainly has that air about her. And the end was a perfect way to complete the story full circle.
I really loved Fable, but I wasn't as captivated by Namesake for some reason. Don't get me wrong, it was good book just not a great one. I read it in one sitting but nothing about it really stands out as memorable to me.
Adrienne Young is an incredible writer and I would recommend reading this duology in order because Namesake picks up right after the cliffhanger from Fable. The worldbuilding is excellent, the characters are entertaining, and I feel like everything comes full circle in this conclusion.
What a great ending!!! Fable is such a strong character, she’s super smart and witty, and she doesn’t take no for an answer. I absolutely love all of the characters in the world! West is amazing and will do anything for Fable, and Saint has so many tricks up his sleeve! Definitely recommend both of these books!
This was a great sequel to Fable and picked up right where its predecessor left the reader. Namesake initially felt a lot different from Fable because the characters I fell in love with were pretty absent for the first part of the story which made it a bit less immersive for me. I feel like this book had a lot more political presence than Fable which felt more like a pirate-y adventure. I did enjoy the cast of characters (even Koy grew on me), the ebb and flow relationship between Fable and her father, the moments of tension and the moments of relief. Adrienne Young is a fantastic writer and I enjoyed finishing this duology.
P.S. THOSE COVERS THOUGH.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book. This in no way affected my review and my opinions are my own.
This follow up sequel to Fable by Adrienne Young, jumps straight back into the story where the first one left off. Young builds a great world of pirates, gem diving and a believable heroine. Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of Namesake in exchange for an honest review.
I really loved this story. I feel like Adrienne Young knows how to build a world and just throw the reader right into the thick of it. She’s descriptive without being too wordy, she creates flawed characters that are so easy to love, and she sparks tension so thick you can’t even cut through it. Namesake rounds out this duology and Fable’s quest of finding out who she really is. I’m a sucker for the love between her and West, I’m a sucker for the relationship she desperately wants with Saint, and I’m a sucker for how strong and badass she is at all times.
Such a great conclusion to a really good book. I am just so in love with the cover and would most likely be getting hard copies because I adore this duology so much. Thank you!
Unfortunately, this one didn't hold my attention as well as the first one did. The concept was there, and the aesthetic was strong, but I felt it dragged a bit and the characters didn't seem to show that much agency. The relationship between Fable and West never really hooked me the way I wanted it to. Just overall a follow-up that I don't feel lived up to its potential
While I didn't enjoy Namesake quite as much as the first book, it was still such a fun adventure! I loved the ending and felt it was satisfying to see where the characters ended up and the choices they made.
This was honestly my first sea-based/pirate adventure read - and I certainly want to read more (plus Young's newest novel is on my TBR too)!
This book definitely has plenty of twists, unreliable characters, and the continuation of the romance we got in the first book.
It’s often a hard task for the sequel of a novel to be as well written as the first. That is not the case with Namesake. Young has as many twists and turns in Namesake as she did in Fable. I loved this story and though this seems to be more of a duology I think. I would LOVE to see a third book come out to share more of Fable’s story. Young Adult Fantasy and middle grade fantasy are my favorites in that genre. I think they have the bar raised high for this area. Swashbuckling, pirate-like adventures, meetings with Fable’s grandmother and more information about her father and what role he plays in her future. Great, great read.
