Namesake concludes what I believe is the best story that Adrienne Young has written to date, and what might just be my favorite duology ever. We start with Fable as the prisoner of Zola, her father's rival, and grappling with a deep betrayal as she desperately tries to figure out a way back to West and the Marigold. But when her journey takes her to Bastian and the Unnamed Sea, Fable discovers lost family secrets that test everything she knows about herself, her family and her relationships. This very brief summary does not do this book justice. It is perfect in every sense of the word. The characters are complex, as are their motivations and their relationships with each other. Watching Fable grapple with the complexities of her connections to Isolde, West, Saint and Holland was very interesting, and Young manages to capture such complex dynamics with ease. The plot is well-formed and paced with unique twists and turns that this reader never saw coming and it just kept me reading and reading to the point I didn't want to put it down. Young's prose, as usual, is absolutely gorgeous and lyrical, lending this book and this world an even better sense of atmosphere. She manages to capture human emotion and ethereal natural beauty in her words that had me choking up a bit and all up in my feels. The ending I felt was really satisfying and made everything come full circle in a really wonderful way. So in short, Fable and Namesake truly deserve all the stars. A story about heritage, the complex nature of love and loyalty, this duology is not one you want to miss.

This was sold end to the duologly. I think I struggled a bit with the start of this read because i was missing some of my favorite characters but I really enjoyed the second half. This book is not "magic" based fantsay novel more with shipping and Pirates but I really enjoyed the world. We also did dive alot more into Fable past in this read. I also still adored the rag tag bunch of crew at the start of this read. The complicated bargins and trickery reminded me of elements of six of crows. I also did enjoy the romance in this read as well!

Wow, I know for sure I'll read anything Adrienne writes. I LOVED Fable, but I think I adored Namesake a tad bit more. I loved following Fable and learning more about her past (and where she came from) and as she decided who she would be moving forward. And WEST! all the heart eyes. Gosh, this book was incredible. I'm still thinking about it months later. I can't wait to read it again.

It took me a long time to finally crack open Fable by Adrienne Young. I was so worried about this series not living up to the hype that I put it off for a long time. Now I find myself wondering why I put it off for so long! I absolutely loved this book and can not wait to see where Adrienne creates her next story.

"We were salt and sand and sea and storm.
We were made in the Narrows." ❤️

I haven't had many expectations about Namesake. I really liked, well, loved Fable and I did not want to be disappointed since I've heard that Namesake is in some ways different. Anyway, the sequel did not disappoint. This book is more political than Fable and I loved that about it. I enjoy reading about politics, and I would love to get even more into the politics of the Narrows. There traders are such an interesting bunch.

It's just as atmospheric as the first book. I really like Adrienne Young's style. She is a great storyteller who easily transports you to another world. You can really feel the wind blowing and smell the salt of the sea. I loved the diving scenes!

It may feel like there is not much world-building or character development in this story... but it still added more to the world and characters. Koy was a great addition to this book. I like that we got to know him better... to see him not only as a person who swore to kill Fable next time he will see her, but in the end, as her friend. I enjoyed watching the development of their relationship. Moreover, Fable learns more about her parents, Saint and Isolde, and has to face new challenges, which ultimately make her stronger. Fable's relationship with her father is so... complicated and interesting to read about.

Fable is a great protagonist. She is emotionally vulnerable, yet so strong and also determined. I admire her will to go on and survive in this harsh world. West remained to be an interesting character, and I am still very fond of him. Maybe that is why the beginning felt slow, but once he was back in the picture, I was able to really dive into it. I don't need to agree with all his actions to love him.

The story wasn't, lets say, mind-blowing, but I still enjoyed it very, very much. Overall, I am satisfied with how it developed and ended.

Special thanks to Netgalley and Wednesday Books for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

It’s true, I’ve loved every Adrienne Young book so far. And Namesake is no different. Except that, honestly, it slightly is. This book is a rare gem, where it shines brighter than its predecessor. I loved this book more than Fable, which is a bit shocking for me because I tend to love beginnings. But Namesake is just beautiful in and out and wonderfully tied up Fable’s story.

Fable was perfect and a breath of fresh air. While she is strong and capable, she’s soft and emotional, but always trying to hide that side of her due to the world she lives in. She grew so much in Fable, but her character growth soared even higher in Namesake. She knew more of her worth in the sequel, which I absolutely loved. She’s always been on her own, but this book illustrated that she doesn’t have to be, not when she’s found family. Yes, Fable has a father but in the first book, he wasn’t a positive presence. Though, I won’t lie, I enjoyed his scenes in Namesake because of how much character progression Fable experienced. She came into her own person in this book: independent and strong and smart, but also trust worthy and loving to those close to her. She figured out her worth in Namesake and that was the best part of this book.

And Fable and West...just perfect. There’s no words to describe these two but perfect. They’re a relationship I will forever root for; both bring out the best in each other and I could feel how much they cared about one another. I also loved the relationship dynamics with Fable’s friends from the first book. I really liked that Young not only gave us a love story but also found friendship.

The world building is just *chef’s kiss.” Oh my goodness does Adrienne Young know how to build a world. It’s dangerous yet beautiful, rocky yet calm when it needs to be. Every scene was so vividly displayed in my mind that it could have easily been real right before my eyes. I could not get enough of this world and the characters. Everything was so just spectacular and raw - it was a gem of a book.

As always, the writing is exquisite and so lush. Young hits you with a wave of emotions in every chapter, always making sure you’re emotionally connected to Fable’s story. The emotions, romantic moments...just everything dives off the page. It all felt so real. Young does an outstanding job continuing Fable’s story. I could not get enough of the writing, characters, and phenomenal world building.

Fable was a fantastic book, but Namesake was the sequel that found a place closer to my heart. With a sea of emotions and wonderful character development, fast-paced scenes and danger at every turn, your bound to fall in love with Namesake, especially if you loved Fable. Namesake is a tale that does not disappoint.

I absolutely loved this book! It was a wonderful conclusion to the Duo. It was easy to get attached to the characters and it was a book that was really hard to put down.

Fantastic follow up to Fable. The series as a whole is a little slower than I normally like but something about them is so compelling that I couldn't put them down. This was an amazing finish to the story and I loved every moment of it even if West isn't the greatest person and I would love to learn more about Hammish who we learn almost nothing about.

Namesake is the perfect ending to a fun and magical story by Adrienne Young. As the sequel to Fable, this story picks up right where Fable left off and continues the wild ride. This book kept me guessing and dying to see what would happen next. The writing is so beautiful and the characters come alive in this adventure on the seas. There’s a beautiful love story, but more than that Fable is learning to love herself and trust herself on her journey.

I will always jump for a chance to be back into this world. I love Fable and West. I love the crew and how well they all get along. I love the story between Fable and her father. I would really love to see more on her father. Overall a wonderful sequel to Fable. I think Adrienne does a wonderful job writing . I love her style and stories.

This was a great follow-up to Fable! I loved being back in this world, and with these characters! The story was almost as good as the first book, so it's a totally powerful story, and I loved it! I think any reader that enjoys YA and sea-faring characters will enjoy this one!

I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.

A great end to the duology! It was fun coming back to Fable's adventures. The writing was fantastic and easy to read - I flew through the novel relatively quickly. The world-building was captivating and I liked the characters. Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more of Young's works.

Five stars is not NEARLY enough for this book.

An epic and emotional conclusion. I want more from this world. There’s so many side stories that could be told. I really hope we get them.

I loved this sequel so much!! It was so great to see the rest of Fable’s story. It wasn’t quite adventurous as the first one and I nearly gave it 4 stars, however, the very end sealed the deal for me to give it 5 stars.

The sequel is beautifully written, with an atmospheric element that had me buried deep within the pages.

Namesake was even more adventurous than its predecessor with a little more backstabbing and drama. I was just as fascinated by “dredging” in this novel as I was in the first. I loved watching the father/daughter relationship stretch and grow.

These books are both so well-written. I loved everything from the characters, to the plot, to the world that Adrienne Young created. I only wish a third book was in the works, but this is only a duology. Last, but not least the Wednesday books design time did an amazing job on the covers for both books.

I read and truly enjoyed Fable last year. It only made sense that I would want to continue the story with Namesake by Adrienne Young. It was an added bonus that Lillian from Mom with a Reading Problem wanted to buddy read with me.

Namesake picked up right where Fable left off. The first 20% really seemed to move kind of slowly. This sometimes happens in Young’s books. Once things picked up, they really picked up! It became a breathless whirlwind of activity. I really enjoyed it. Namesake still has Young’s beautiful descriptions. There was also a bit of a mystery and I wasn’t sure how it was going to end and it kept me on the edge of my seat not knowing.

The beginning of Namesake had me questioning everything I knew about the characters I have come to know and love and love to hate. Young had me questioning if West was the man I had come to know. We did start to see new depths but I didn’t think that they were bad new characteristics. I really feel like Fable was starting to learn who she was. So much of the last few years for her were spent just surviving. I really loved getting to know Clove better. I was also pretty happy to see a character come back from Fable. I really didn’t think we were done with them yet.

I am so glad that I read both Fable and Namesake. After this duology Adrienne Young has a spot on my auto-read list.

I have loved every book by this author. I loved the first one, Fable. The world was so captivating, the characters were interesting, and the plot had little surprises peppered in it as you read. I couldn’t wait to read the sequel and the conclusion after the ending of the last. I like the author’s pacing and balance between character time and plot time, I am normally not a fan of many female characters, but I did really like Fable. This book was a thrilling adventure and time well spent.

Namesake was the sequel to the much loved Fable. I really loved the first book and requested an ARC of Namesake. The sequel fell a little flat to me. I enjoyed the animosity between Fable and Saint in the previous book but it didn’t reach that same intensity in the second book. I had developed a relationship among the characters and the new ones didn’t meet expectations. It was still a good story but felt rushed at the end. I would like to read something else from Adrienne Young.

After the absolute cliff-hanger of an ending, Namesake picks up exactly where Fable left off.

Separated from the crew of the Marigold and her only allies in a world full of thieves and crooks, Fable must make her way back to them as best she can. But that’s easier said than done, and more than one surprise may be sailing towards her. Along the way, Fable finds herself in deep water, and at the crosshairs of a political affair she never could have foreseen. While trying to untangle the web of lies and half-truths that surround her, Fable soon learns more about her mother than she could have ever hoped to… And that knowledge may just change everything.

As any book lover likely knows, a good sequel is hard to come by. So, when going into a sequel – even one as highly anticipating as Namesake – I can’t help but feel a little apprehensive…

But honestly, I needn’t have worried when it came to this book! Unlike so many sequels that came before it, Namesake does the almost impossible, and managed to reel me into its story almost even more succinctly than its predecessor, Fable. Namesake succeeds where so many other titles have failed by being just as captivating as the first book in its series.

I think Namesake does this so well by expanding the world of the Narrows and the Unnamed Sea and delving into all the parts of it that Fable left untouched. Namesake does a really good job of both presenting exciting new information while also satisfactorily answering all the burning questions Fable left unresolved. Fable’s cut-throat world of pirating is so fascinating! It was so easy – and so much fun! – to dive back into that world again (pun intended).

The biggest thing I was hoping for after finishing Fable was getting more of the backstories behind the fellow crew members of the Marigold. And I’m so happy to report that Namesake did an incredible job giving me just that! Not only that, but it also had me rooting for characters I didn’t even like in the first novel?! Talk about impressive.

I loved that this story delved deeper into Fable’s relationship with Saint as well. There were also some great new characters and plot lines in this instalment; all of which were so well foreshadowed in the first novel it felt like they were already a part of the journey. I was so pleasantly surprised by how much Namesake honestly felt like the perfect continuation – and conclusion! – to the captivating story started in Fable. Truly a gem worth reading.

Thank you to the publisher, Wednesday Books/St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC of this book. All thoughts are my own.
