A small diverse group of couples, with seemingly nothing in common other than an impending arrival of a child, participate in a pre-birth class. After the final class, they all get back together for a baby party — and one person is killed. The story is told from many points of view - with a variety of personalities. It is a real page turner - that might leave you with the question “why would anyone want to have a baby”. Thank you for NetGalley for the advanced copy.
I loved the Push. You think you know what's going on and who to believe. You think you've got it all right, but then the doubts start to creep in. You're not so confident now. And then that ending!
I was hooked from the beginning and then unfortunately lost interest, took too long for the story line to develop
Complex family relationships which unfurled during this book. Liked the way that it jumped back and forwards through time as the storyline was revealed.
I have loved every book I have read by Claire McGowan and The Push was no exception. A story of six couples all about to be new parents by one way or the other come together during a new parent class and the suspense starts. The story mainly centered about Jax and her boyfriend and extended out from there. Lots of interesting characters, lots of plot twist! Really good read overall!
A page-turner full of surprises! I found this book after seeing the posts about it and couldn't wait to pick it up and I'm so glad I did. Full of suspense it's sure to keep you engaged.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC!
Loved this book, full of suspense and twists and turns, I just wanted to keep reading it. All the alibis, statements I just needed to keep reading to find out the truth. Great book great author. Cannot wait to read more books by this author
I am not going to say too much about why this title did not work for me....it just didn't.
.
I will be putting it down. Thank you for the opportunity to review this title....unfortunately, it is a dnf for me.
This is a perfectly fine thriller with some nice touches. The exploration of the differing attitudes to maternity, and the more traditional drama aspects worked better for me than the psychological thriller side of things. That said, I warmed to DS Alison Hegarty and the mystery is pulled togther in a satisfying manner at the end.
Motherhood doesn't come naturally to Blythe. She struggles to bond with her first-born child Violet, which brings up painful memories of her own childhood. Blythe finds Violet difficult to mother, and her feelings of inadequacy grow. The family seems to settle in after the birth of their second child. Sam is a sweet-natured little boy who restores Blythe's confidence in her ability to nurture her children. The family's foundation is soon shattered by disturbing events that forever change them.
The Push is a taut, suspenseful tale that delves into the psychological aspects of unravelling relationships.
This was just okay. The premise was intriguing, but the pacing was really slow and choppy, and most of the twists were pretty predictable. I would probably read more from this author, but this just wasn’t my favorite.
Superb novel - I really enjoyed it. Excellently written with great characters who had different and interesting backgrounds. The author wrote with a good understanding of pregnancy, birth and new babies. I loved the time lapse storytelling and the whodunnit that kept the reader guessing until the last. Highly recommended
This book was not what I expected. I would not be able to recommend this because as I had to skim a lot of what I did read. Didn't finish the book
This author is new to me, but I will definitely be looking into more books by this author. I was pulled in from the start! I felt like I knew the characters personally. Such a great read! You will not be disappointed! Highly recommend!
Solid detective mystery, told in alternating perspectives, set in London. Solid detective mystery, told in alternating perspectives, set in London.
DNF - did not finish. I could not connect with the writing style/plot so I decided to not pick this one up. Thank you, NetGalley and publisher for the early copy!
I enjoyed this book, but the characters felt pretty flat until halfway through the book. I did like that the end kept me guessing and it was not what I had expected!
I really enjoy Claire McGowan’s writing, and this was no exception! Although a difficult subject matter it was enjoyable. It was a little slow in parts though compared to her other books. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for an egalley.
This was a fast moving and suspenseful thriller. There were a lot of moving pieces and different perspectives and I throughly enjoyed it.
Six pregnant couples from an antenatal group plan to get together in a fancy house after their babies arrive - what could possibly go wrong? Turns out.....a LOT. When one of the guests in murdered, Detective Allison must weave her way through all the lies told by the guests to determine what really happened at the barbecue that day.
This book reminded me a lot of Big Little Lies, or any other Liane Moriarty book. It was interesting enough, but I found it really hard to keep the characters straight and at times, the plot fell totally flat for me. I had a really hard time connecting with any of the characters. It felt slow, and was probably 100 pages longer than it needed to be. The ending wasn't the greatest. It was predictable at best.
I feel like there are better books about scandals and secrets to read. I'd probably pass on this one, given a second chance.
