Happy Singles Day by Ann Marie Walker is a breezy contemporary romance. This was my first time reading Ann Marie Walker and while I don't think we're a match, I can definitely see many romance readers enjoying her writing style and this novel. There are many romance tropes for readers to enjoy - vacation romance, grumpy hero, opposites attract, forced proximity and even a bit of enemies-to-lovers.
Happy Singles Day follows professional organizer Paige as she sets out to celebrate Singles Day (aka Single Awareness Day on February 15) by going on a vacation for the first time in forever. After finding out her fiance was cheating on her with her boss/best friend, Paige decides to throw everything she has into building a career for herself as a professional organizer and running her own successful company. With work taking up most of her time, her personal life has fallen to the backburner and it's not until she meets the surly bed-and-breakfast owner of her vacation spot that she's ready to put herself out their again. Unlike Paige, Lucas has avoiding work for the past two years after losing the love of his life and mother of his daughter - running the B&B without her just didn't seem right. But his meddling sister reactivates the booking to help him earn some much needed money before he loses the place for good and in walks Paige. He's not looking for a relationship but Paige certainly stirs up feelings he used to think were better left alone. Could this vacation fling between these two opposites turn into something more permanent?
Thank you to NetGalley, SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and the author for granting my wish to read this digital ARC.

When Paige decides to take a much needed vacation she stumbles on a bed and breakfast on an island in North Carolina that is offering a Singles Day special. Paige, on an impulse, books a week there. Lucas has not offered his home as a bed and breakfast since his wife died so when his sister tells him she has booked a room he is not happy. Needless to say when Paige and Lucas meet it is not what either of them planned and Paige decides she isn't staying. A northeaster prevents her from leaving and Paige and Lucas are forced to inhabit the bed and breakfast together. A story of unexpected twists in life and what happens when you take a chance.

This book was such a adorable, heartwarming read. It made me tear up, smile and laugh many times. I loved that Lucas was such a family man and taught Paige how to not sweat the small things. While Paige taught Lucas how to open up about his past grief and be excited about loving someone again
This book had just the right amount of balance. It talks about some hard hitting topics like grief, family issues and loss of a spouse, but it also has important lessons like acceptance and being true to yourself. Loved the small coastal town atmosphere and the HEA ending. Read it!

I had high hopes for this one, but I just didn’t feel like it worked for me. I was surprised it wasn’t open door, I think I would have liked it a bit more if it was! The setting was cute, and I enjoyed the forced proximity aspect. But I was hoping to like it more! 3 stars

Paige Parker is an owner of a successful business and is a total workaholic. Deciding she needs a break, she goes to a B&B. There we meet the hot owner of said B&B, Lucas Croft. He is not interested in love, still grieving over his loss and just focusing of his daughter Maddie.
To say these two started off on the wrong foot was an understatement. Their different personalities made it somewhat difficult for them to get along at the beginning. As the week went along, these two realized that yes they are different, but yet similar. They both have a painful past that made them who they are. As Paige started to relax and Lucas to open up, the dynamic between them changed.
I’ve been a huge fan of Ann Marie Walker since she released the Chasing Fire series alongside Amy K. Rogers, and so far all of her books are amazing and this one wasn’t an exception. If you’re looking for a sweet, light, opposite attract read, I recommend you give this one a try!
Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca for granting my wish!
Note: All opinions are my own.

I really liked this book. I think it was a great light hearted romance. I really liked the character of Paige. It really shows how men can judge woman judged on their clothes, career etc. I liked how she was able to relax and show Lucas her heart. Her career is definitely popular right now with the the home edit going on.
Lucas was the career I struggled with. I know he was a grieving widower but i didnt' understand why he was so moody. Otherwise I liked the daddy moments definitely really cute..
I would definitely recommend this is you need to escape and would like some cute mindless romance.

Strong Hallmark vibes here. Would be a good fit for fans of more traditional romances who want something a bit fresh.

This book was a great mix of funny and sweet. It’s an unexpected second chance at love for both of them and there’s the most adorable little kid who is an absolute page stealer!
Paige Parker has been busy establishing her own successful life organisation company, Chaos Control, so her personal life has taken a backseat to that. She needs a vacation for the first time in forever which is how she finds herself booked into a quaint little B&B ‘The Copper Lantern Inn’ on Aurelia Island, North Carolina. Clearly she needs some downtime, and this sees her taking a vacation in winter to the beach by herself to celebrate Singles Day.
Lucas Croft is the proprietor of The Copper Lantern Inn. He’s a widower with a young daughter, Maddie, and his sister Sophie has reactivated his listing as a B&B and accepted Paige as a customer without his knowledge. The handsome but extremely grumpy and very reluctant innkeeper does have a heart of gold it’s just going to take a moment to emerge.
They get off on the wrong foot but they’re stuck with each other. And there’s a mutual attraction. You just know it will end either really badly or really well...

This is cute, light-hearted, not too steamy (although a little more would not have been unwelcome), and has a nice ending.

Happy Singles Day was down right adorable. After being burned by her ex, Paige is done changing her life for what he wants. After creating a successful business Paige decided to go on a vacation to a cozy B & B on an island in North Carolina. Hot B & B owner Lucas is still devastated over the loss of a past love and has no time or need for romance. He only has time for his young daughter. When Paige arrives unknown to Lucas the two do not get off on the right foot with there very different personalities clashing. But through the week Lucas gets Paige to start relaxing a little bit and enjoying her life more, while Paige gets Lucas to open up and see life again. Secret looks and bedtime fantasies start to change this duo’s feelings about each other. But with only a week on the island do all of these new feelings really have a place to lead to a future?
I raced through Happy Singles Day. I loved the hate to love relationship between Lucas and Paige. Both had so many amazing moments together. For me Lucas’s daughter Maddie was the page stealer for me. She was adorable and the perfect addition to the story.
My only complaint and why I’m not giving it 5 stars is because of the lack of follow through in the steam department. For me there was so build up between the characters that would lead to some hot moments, but it never really happens. Both characters went into detail about how they wanted those moments but use readers didn’t get to experience it. Some may not find it a bit deal but I like a little follow through.
Overall this was such a sweet romance that I got lost it. I loved it and would highly recommend it. Thanks NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC.

I needed this book in my life, It was exactly what I needed to read this week, I couldn't put it down!

This one was a bit of a letdown for me. I was really intrigued by the premise because I love anything to do with B & B’s. It just seemed like the perfect setting. I also was looking forward to how the author would spin the whole singles day thing. It just seemed like a really interesting read. Unfortunately, there was a lot of disconnect when it came to the characters and the plot.
To me, this book should have been a bit longer to flesh things out. Everything happens so quickly and we move from one plot twist to the next like rapid fire. There isn’t ever much character development either besides learning that Lucas’s family all have tragic endings. I just didn’t feel for him or even Paige.
Their relationship is also quite quick and their thoughts about one another are pretty heavy. I just didn’t feel the chemistry.
The plot is hallmark movie-worthy. Guy is down in the dumps, needs money, and his sister nudges everything right along. It’s a classic plot. It’s lighthearted and there isn’t much thinking involved. It wasn’t bad and I’m sure I would have liked it more if it was just fleshed out more.
Another issue I had was the epilogue. It switches from present to past and then back to present quickly. I was getting whiplash. It just felt disconnected and I would have liked seperate chapters for each.
Overall, it was okay. There would good moments and I liked the dogs. I just wish it was longer so that maybe it would have been easier to connect with.

Professional organizer Paige’s assistant practically pushes her out the door to take a vacation. She settles on a beachside B&B in North Carolina. But she’s shocked to discover that the real inn looks nothing like the quaint website photos. It’s rundown and cluttered, neglected. Something is clearly wrong here.
Widower Lucas has his hands full just raising his four-year-old daughter and putting one foot in front of the other, let alone running the business he started with his late wife. But his sister takes matters into her own hands when she books a guest without telling him. Enter Paige.
At first, these opposites can’t stand each other. But circumstances keep pushing them together, from winter storms to puppies in peril. Soon Paige is tempted to start organizing the much-too-handsome innkeeper’s life. But is he ready?
This was an emotional read. There’s grief and loss on both sides. I did feel like their relationship moved rather quickly, considering Lucas’s circumstances. But overall it was enjoyable.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC to review.

In this slightly-less-chaste-than-Hallmark-movies, professional organizer Paige goes on a spontaneous February vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. However, the charming B&B she has reserved is less charming and more hot mess-- but the owner is hot, too. And his four-year-old is adorable. And so Hot Mess and Organization Queen fall in love. But she lives in Chicago... what are they going to do?
Things I didn't like about this book:
- All the adjusting of his crotch that Lucas does. Seriously, is that necessary??
- And then to not have a steamy scene?! Come on!
- Paige says she doesn't want to be in a relationship where the guy makes all the decisions and she just goes along with them, but then that's what happens: Lucas proposes without them seeming to discuss it beforehand, and then he just purchases a house for them without them picking it out together. Ugh.
- Paige's reasoning for visiting NC to run her second office only during the summer so that she can help people organize their second homes on the beach doesn't make any sense. People wouldn't want to miss any opportunities to rent out their beach homes during the busy season. Ergo, they wouldn't want her services during the summer; they'd want them during the off-season. I know this is supposed to be some sort of compromise so that Maddie and Lucas can go back to Aurora when Maddie's not in school, but it's dumb. The excuse should have just been to help Sophie out with the B&B during the busy season; that would have made way more sense.
- The epilogue is a hot mess of chronology. We jump forward to the wedding, and then it jumps back to when Lucas proposes. Just no.
- Despite the fact that Paige is overwhelmed with work because she is a workaholic, she has way too much casual knowledge about the inner workings of the romance publishing industry. The author's self is peaking through, and this is /not/ authentic characterization.
- It's too Hallmark-y. If you like Hallmark romances, then you'll probably like this story, but I don't, and it's just too cheesy for me.
On the chaste-to-steamy scale, I'd give it a 2. There is much description of Lucas adjusting his manhood, but there is no actual sex on the page.

I have enjoyed this book so far. I would rate it as good as some of the Nicholas Sparks'books I have read. This book has all the feels of a Hallmark Channel Movie. Hint.....Hallmark Channel.....

Forced proximity trope in a beautiful house on a charming island in North Carolina during stormy weather - just the perfect settings for major tension buildup between the innkeeper, Lucas and the only guest, Paige. Lucas’ daughter Maddie is beyond adorable and cutely mature for a five year old. With all the chemistry between Lucas and Paige right from the first day, I thought it was going to be a steamy romance but it wasn’t steamy.
It is a heartwarming and an adorable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced reader copy.

Ultimately, this was a fun and quick read. It was a slow start for me and I considered not finishing it within the first three chapters but I stuck with it and once I was emotionally connected to the characters I enjoyed the story.
I enjoyed the evolution for both main characters and felt their friends and family added to the richness of the plot. Though their transition to lovers felt a bit abrupt, I understood their connection and how it lead there.
I wish this book had more overt steaminess rather than the nods to sex scenes but I expected that may be the case with the tongue in cheek jokes in the beginning of the book.
I found several typos which is always distracting for me and takes me out of the story a bit.

This book had a solid premise and there wasn't anything wrong that I truly didn't like in the story. This one landed a little flat for me, probably because Lucas seemed EXTRA surly and broodier than I've come to expect from characters like him. This gave me a lot of Nicholas Sparks Nights in Rodanthe vibes without all the crushing grief and heartbreak.

This book was a decent read! I did enjoy reading it! It wasn't my all time favorite but still worth reading! It was funny but still delt with some heavy hearted topics! I would definitely recommend reading it! Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!

I wish I had enjoyed this more! It felt a bit like insta-love, which is not something that I'm a fan of. The daughter was also waaaay more advanced than a child that age is, which is a pet peeve of mine as well. As a former teacher of little ones, I know just how insightful children can be! That being said, I do get frustrated when they're portrayed as having adult minds. It's a sweet, simple book.
