"She loved her sexy innkeeper no matter what he was wearing, and particularly when he wore nothing at all. But Lucas Croft in a tuxedo was almost too much for her brain to handle."

Paige is done with men, it has been all business all the time so much so that she hasn't even taken a vacation in forever, with her assistant nagging her to live a little Paige decides to throw caution to the wind and indulge in a week away at a picturesque seaside B&B. But on arrival Paige is meet with a prickly innkeeper and an inn that is far from what is promised but with a storm set to land Paige finds herself stuck.

••

Lucas didn't want a guest nor was he or the B&B ready for Paige, but after his meddlesome sister signs her up Lucas is left with no choice but to follow through. He just wasn't expecting Paige to be the storm that changed his life around!

••

This was a cute read, definitely not what I had expected but I loved it non the less! Both main characters were easy to love and sweet in their own ways but really Maddie was the true star of the show with her band of merry misfit stuffed toys. I absolutely loved Paige, not only was she a strong woman but she was genuinely a nice person. I loved the connection that she had with Maddie and how easily they clicked. As for Lucas well at first I was not to keen on him but I did warm up to him, my heart did break for him and all that he has been through.

••

This was a pretty clean read but definitely still packed a good punch in the chemistry and attraction department. I loved Sophie, I hope she will get a book of her own. I absolutely loved the nod towards the teenage mutant ninja turtles and that Paige saved the stray pups.

••

Happy Singles Day was a cute second chance/single dad romance that was super easy to get invested in and the ending made it all the more sweet. I would definitely recommend this book!

This book was cute and light. I appreciate the fact that there was no real or dramatic conflict. It was nice to read happy people for once! The characters were sweet but Sophie (sister of our Hero, Lucas) was by far the most personable. I hope we get a sequel about her.

This book was a cute romance and perfect to read on my road trip.

I really enjoy single dad romances and enjoyed that aspect of the story.
The idea of a Happy Singles Day celebration was also unique and intriguing.

This was Hallmark-y but packed moments of serious sexual tension (but still closed door).

Overall enjoyed this book and would read another by the author.

Aurelia Island, North Carolina – Present Day

Paige Parker isn’t in the market for a man, but it doesn’t stop her from being angry about all the promotion for Valentine’s Day and its emphasis on couples. She decides it’s time to celebrate “Happy Singles Day.” With the help of her trusty personal assistant, Paige makes an out of season B & B reservation on an island off the coast of North Carolina. There she plans to celebrate February 15th as Happy Singles Day. Getting to the island is not easy—it is accessible only by a ferry that’s available depending on the weather and there are no vehicles on the island. She arrives in a torrential downpour and is driven to the B & B via a bike with a sidecar. The moment she steps into the B & B, she’s ready to turn around and leave. The house is rundown, and the host is surly. But Paige can’t leave because the ferry has been shut down due to the weather.

Single father Lucas Croft used to run a bed and breakfast, but after the unexpected death of his wife, he let the business—and the house—slide. It was his mischievous sister who dealt with Paige Parker, and he figures if he makes it as miserable as possible for her, then she’ll turn around and leave. He just didn’t expect the storm to close the ferry. With her unable to leave, they are stranded together for several days. His daughter is temporarily staying with his sister, so it’s just Lucas and Paige. She’s a pain in the ass, but a very attractive—and desirable—woman. In a matter of days, their tenuous relationship turns into an attraction.

HAPPY SINGLES DAY is a funny romantic comedy about how love can find you unexpectedly. Paige didn’t arrive at this point of “no man in my life” stage due to a lack of trying. It’s just that she’s been hurt in the past and feels it’s best to remain single. Lucas loved his wife and has mourned her since she died a couple of years ago. Paige is a prickly control freak who goes in and rearranges things like his kitchen cupboards when he prefers his unorganized life. The B & B was his dream with his wife and he’s now at the crossroads wondering what to do next.

With the rain falling outside, there isn’t a whole lot the two can do except talk. While Paige is uptight at first, Lucas does intrigue her as she wonders about his past. It’s clear he had a wife. At first, she wants to get off the island as soon as possible, but once the weather clears and she can leave, she has begun to forge a friendship with Lucas and decides to stay. Making s’mores and asking him “twenty questions” brings them closer. Will this lead them to the bedroom? Paige will return to Chicago after her vacation is over. Will they fall in love and will Lucas try to convince her to stay with him?

A cute tale that will tickle your funny bone, HAPPY SINGLES DAY is about finding love when you least expect it. Will Paige remain single forever? Can Lucas get over the death of his wife? Don’t miss this tantalizing funny read.

OᐯᗴᖇᐯIᗴᗯ: As a professional organizer, Paige helps others get their lives together while hers is less than perfect. To celebrate Singles Day, Paige decides to take a much needed solo vacation to just relax and reevaluate her life. She ends up at a bed and breakfast owned by single, and attractive, Lucas and her vacation takes a turn. But is it a turn for the worse or for the better?

ᗰY TᕼOᑌᘜᕼTᔕ: I really enjoyed this book and the characters. Although, the strangers became friends much too fast for me, leaving there to be less tension built. However, Lucas’ little daughter stole my heart and there are puppies! Can’t go wrong with puppies!

Workaholic and professional organizer Paige is in desperate need of a vacation - which is how she finds herself celebrating Singles Day (February 15) at a bed & breakfast at the beach. But when she arrives expecting a gorgeous house on the beach with welcoming staff, she finds a neglected home with a grumpy (and gorgeous) owner.

Happy Singles Day is an adorable read! Even though Paige gets to the beach amidst a huge storm, it STILL has me craving a beach getaway (and to organize my house - just me??)

I absolutely loved Lucas and his precocious daughter Maddie and how they welcomed Paige into their life. There's something about a single dad in a romance that is just so endearing.

The book is a quick read and has really fun side characters - looking at you, Sammy & Sophie. I would actually love a book about either of them, as well!

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review!

Rating 3.5/5 stars

This was a cute breezy rom com with a little bit of angst (deals with the loss of loved ones)that I really enjoyed.

Both Paige and Lucas are really likable. Even though Paige is supposed to be this type A personality who likes every in its place, she wasn’t over the top or annoying.

In addition to Lucas and Paige I really liked all of the side characters too. I loved Paige’s assistant/BFF Sammy and I really wanted to know more about him!

I love that this story has an epilogue with a true HEA and the book as a whole wasn’t too long so it was a fairy easy read.

This book is a fun, feel good read. I love how it totally fits the vibes of a January romance. The hero is hurt widow trying to raise his daughter, but needs to regain his focus. The heroine, while overdone with her love for organizing, is also healing from her own (very different type of) hurt. I don't know if I'd pick this book up again, but I don't see the harm in recommending other people give it a try. The dialogue was fun and perky and the characters were straightforward and enjoyable. (3.5 stars)

Hi, my name is Kelly, and I am in love with Lucas Croft.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, I just need to say upfront I enjoyed the heck out of this book. I saw a lot of myself in Paige: neurotic, control-freak who loves her plans and even more loves when everything is just so. In a world where things can be so incredibly out of control, it’s easy to latch onto the things you can, and kudos to her for turning into a successful organizational business. Paige was funny, she was smart, she was vulnerable, and she was someone I would absolutely be friends with and it made her that much easier to cheer for.

Our hero, Lucas, is a grumpy, wounded, cinnamon roll of a man, that I absolutely adore. He’s a single father who is barely getting by, and when Paige bursts into his life when she comes to stay at his dilapidated B&B for the week, his life gets flipped (and turned upside down) and Paige ends up being the spark he needed to break him out of his sad little cocoon. Paige and Lucas together? Hilarious. I snort-laughed quite a few times, and I definitely didn’t see some of their jokes coming. The two of them were so funny together and were also completely real and open and it was so REFRESHING to see a book where the characters communicated. Sure, it didn’t happen immediately every time (we all are guilty of burying our feelings a bit before we get up the courage to speak our truths) but when they spoke with one another honestly it was just so heartwarming and wonderful and yes, I cried.

This book is closed door (so it’s great for romance readers who don’t love all the explicit stuff us hussies enjoy) but still steamy and the tension is to die for. This book is also excellent for fans of forced proximity, insta-love, and the opposites attract trope. All three fit the bill beautifully, while also giving us that HEA we’re longing for. I enjoyed the heck out of this book and the entire cast of characters (I want a Sammy, please) and can’t wait to dive into Walker’s backlist and see what I’ve missed. This book was a great break from the real world for a bit and I cannot recommend it enough.

A heartwarming single parent romance about Paige Parker going on vacation and falling in love with the sexy inn keeper Lucas Croft. A charming and whimsical adventure about a widowed single father falling for a professional organizer.

Paige haa been working nonstop, so on a whim she decides to plan a last minute winter vacation to a small island off the east coast and stay at a quaint Bed and Breakfast. Instantly the vacation is a disaster, but the one silver lining is that the B and B owner just so happens to look like Ryan Reynolds. The two can’t stand each other at first, but slowly open up over her stay.

This book is ridiculously cute. This would make a perfect romcom movie and I would love to see the puppy rescue play out on the big screen. The beachy feel, numerous 90’s references, and easy banter make this a perfectly relaxing beach read. A simple, feel good, and spunky romance!

Happy Singles Day by Ann Marie Walker is a romance novel starring an overachieving businesswoman, Paige, who books a winter trip to a cozy bed and breakfast to take a break from work and celebrate Single Day on her own. However when she arrives, she is faced with a slightly dilapidated, messy home that does not look like it has seen any guests in a long time. Cue Lucas, the attractive single dad who has not had guests since the passing of his wife and is thrown into the business after his sister secretly activates the online listing.

When I heard this synopsis I was intrigued and the cover is adorable. I have to admit I was disappointed and at times uncomfortable with some of the writing. The main characters Paige and Lucas are not that well-developed so it's hard to connect with the characters. For example, the writing highlights how Paige is a workaholic and control freak but besides organizing a few things the writing doesn't really show it. In contrast, Lucas is considered a bit of a curmudgeon but he actually was much worse than that. At one point he called Paige an "uptight bitch" when she didn't want to stay at the place when there was peanut butter on the railings, almost no food, and just looked the opposite of what she paid for (mind you she paid double the seasonal price during off-season!!). And this is after he was terribly rude to her for absolutely no reason and redirected his resentment to his sister to Paige. He says other questionable things throughout the book that seem misogynostic and even borderline homophobic (insinuating using lots of products is something only "ladies" or "gay guys" do).

I still continued reading, but the writing uses nearly every trope in the book that by the first third there's already been plot points such as rescuing puppies in the rain and a naked encounter when getting a towel very quickly in the book, For those who enjoy lots of plot this will be a plus. For me it was a bit much and I would have liked to see a bit more character development and dialogue. I noticed the characters don't do very much talking and throughout the book we hear a lot about what is going on in their head. However, most of what is going on is focused on physical features rather than developing more of an emotional tie between the characters. As the book progresses, the emotional connection is based on one situation and from there, things escalate very quickly. For those that like fast-paced romance this will be good for you. Overall this book was not for me but it reads very easily and you get the happily ever after that is needed for a romance novel!

Single dad? Check...Just with that I was intrigued. Then the story starts and I was hooked. It's sweet and Lucas and Paige have instant chemistry; but it's also funny and I loved getting to know them but also the rest of the characters. It's a feel-good romance.

Paige is the ultimate workaholic, so when a quiz prompts her to find her ultimate vacation she decides to respond. It leads her to a quaint little island to a Bed and Breakfast that promises a beautiful ocean view, and a chance to recharge.

Paige decides it will be great to get away, and Singles Day, the day after Valentines Day, is a good time to do it. Little did she know the island would be getting a Nor'Easter and the grumpy B&B owner would be less than ready for her arrival, even if he does look like Ryan Reynolds.

Lucas is still grieving from the loss of his wife, and trying to care for his 5 year old daughter. He had no idea his sister was going to rent out a room at the last minute. He hasn't had guests in years, but in order to save the B&B he agrees. He is less than hospitable, but he needs the money.

They both get off to the wrong start, but it only takes saving a dog and her pups, to turn things around. They both have some baggage to work through, and the end of the vacation is drawing near.

Overall, this story was just really sweet. It is a closed door romance, but I felt both of their emotions, trying to start over, trust again. Working through issues, and helping each other in the end. A grand gesture in the end, leads to a hopeful future. The ending was perfect, leading these two to their happily ever after.

Happy Singles day is light, fluffy, and cute, exactly the kind of book to start the reading year! This book will make you want to cuddle in your bed (or sofa or chair or whatever you prefer) and devour down the whole book in one sitting. The book was as adorable as the synopsis and the cover.

The book was told in dual perspective with the third point of view narration. The writing style of the author was perfect! The dialogues were witty. The cute banter between Lucas and Paige never failed to make me smile!

"All thoughts of the pigpen left her because holy macaroni, the pig himself looked more like a freaking movie star than a swine."

Speaking about the main leads, I thought both were well-developed characters. Paige was a strong female lead, and I loved her. I liked how, instead of weeping and crying over her ex, who cheated on her with her 'friend', she decided to get up and start her own company. I can go as far as to say that I admired her! Paige is a little uptight and way too much of a workaholic on the outside, but she is kind on the inside.

“Live a little, Paige. Not everything has to be picture perfect. Sometimes you just need to eat a cake right out of the box.”

I was smitten by Lucas from the very beginning. The way he loves and adores his daughter, Maggie, was everything. He was a little grumpy at the beginning but all for a reason. Lucas was the exact opposite of Paige. He is a mess whereas Paige was well organized.

“You know my story, Paige Parker. Now tell me yours. And you can start with why in the world a beautiful woman like you is spending a week alone at the beach.”

The supporting characters though made little appearances, I still loved them. I wanted to see more of Sammy, but I was still content with him appearing in the book constantly.

I loved the sibling bickering between Lucas and his sister, Sophie. To help Lucas, she was the one who put up the ad for his B&B online to save Lucas from losing his house. Maggie was an adorable and intelligent little girl.

The romance itself was adorable and cute. I loved how despite being the exact opposite of the other, one being messy and the other organized, they helped each other in more ways than one. Their chemistry was over the top! I couldn't stop swooning over these two and clapping my hands when they finally kissed! The only complaint I had was the fade-to-black scenes (😛). Okay, okay, fine, I had no complaints 😅

“Seems to me you don’t need all of your stuff perfectly organized. What you need is one special person to share the mess of life.”

Even though these two started wrong, it was cute to see them fall in love with each other. This book made me feel embarrassed, blush, and grin like a madwoman at the same time.

"Paige Parker might have been a certified pain in the ass, but in the back of his mind, part of him already knew she had the potential to be his perfect match."

Along with being a cute read, this book covers the topic of grief and loss.

"People were usually so focused on the tragedy, they forgot that before the loss, there’d been a life."

This book has a beachy island setting so, if you are in the mood for escapism, then Happy Singles Day is the book for you.

Read this book if you love -

I wanted to love this book. The premise, the cover... I was expecting to like this. But this book was just not for me.

This book is an opposites attracts romance between the main characters Paige and Lucas. Paige is presented as a badass business woman. She has her own company, working as a personal organizer, and she's the typical sort of married-to-the-job, take-no-bullshit, big city woman. And she's also kind of nursing her broken heart after she broke it off with her now ex-fiancé. So, as her assistant more or less forces her to take a break from her job, she books a trip to this small remote island, to get away from the big city during Valentines Day.

Then there's Lucas. A widowed father who also happens to be the owner of the bed & breakfast Paige has decided to spend her vacation at. His sister was the one to rent out the place again, without telling him, so when Paige shows up, he's less than welcoming.

Paige is ready to turn right around and leave, but thanks to the weather, she has no choice but to stay. And as they are forced together, they need to work around some slightly confusing feelings.

Let's start with the characters shall we. I didn't particularly like any of our two main characters. Everything about them felt very surface level, and there was a lot of telling us how the characters were and what their personalities were like, rather than showing. As an example - the book multiple times talks about Paige and her work, and tells us how she's this great, badass business woman. But it's never shown. Some of the more serious discussions towards the end of the book, did make me feel for them more. It added some layers to them and made them a little less two-dimensional, but overall I was unable to connect to any of them or feel for them, and I just could not get invested in their story.

Now I love me a good opposites attract romance, but this was more just... opposites. Maybe it has to do with how I felt about the characters in general, but I genuinely saw NO chemistry between the two of them. There were only weird fantasies and way to many mentions of hard-ons, but no actual feelings discussed or chemistry shown and I just couldn't believe any of it. Insta-love is also an element in this book. Paige is only staying on the island for a short period of time, so of course, everything happens quickly. I'm generally not a fan of insta-love but I also don't hate it, but in this book it just really did not work and I really didn't like it. I wasn't invested in the romance, I didn't care about what happened between them... It just wasn't believable and felt very forced, I guess would be the best way to explain it.

Probably my two biggest problems with the book were the sexism, and the gender stereotypes that were just casually sprinkled in throughout it. They mostly stuck to the first half, but they were there all the way. As an example, at several points Lucas talks about how being tidy and wanting things clean is so typical for women. Because tidiness is 100% a quality ONLY reserved for women. There was also this whole tangent about how women always complain about the toilet seat being up? Now I'm no man, so I don't know how often this is on the average man's mind... But a whole like, 3 page tangent on how being told to lower the toilet seat is the worst thing ever? I don't know bro, that sounds like a you-problem.
He also complained a lot about how Paige was so uptight and rude, when in reality, she probably had every right to be a little bit taken aback and thus not the most friendly, when they first met. Considering the bed & breakfast looks pretty much nothing like advertised, and she was met by a less than welcoming host (aka Lucas.)
Paige was pretty much the same too. She also kept enforcing this "tidiness is a woman thing" agenda, which just ended up annoying me so much cause they just DIDN'T SHUT UP ABOUT IT. At one point she also points out how watching TV and playing video-games is so typical for men... Again, because there has never been girls who do that, it's 100% reserved ONLY for men.

No spoilers, but there's this conflict because Paige saw Lucas through a crack in the door one night while he was looking through photo albums, and when Lucas finds out, he get's really mad. Which... kinda didn't make any sense. If they'd just talked for like 2 seconds, the whole thing wouldn't have been a conflict at all. But miscommunication must always be present so... that happened. But anyways, he storms away - and then 10 seconds later, new chapter, instead of still being mad, he just goes right over to fantasizing about Paige giving him a blowjob? Like... where did that come from, weren't you mad like one page ago?

Which brings me to the extreme amount of sexual fantasies and comments. It's an adult romance, I was expecting some steam here and there, i have nothing against that. You know what I did not get? A single actual steamy scene! You know what I got instead? An uncomfortable amount of sexual remarks that could've easily been taken straight out of a 12 year old's mind. Exhibit A: at one point they decide to start over, like a fresh start, and they shake on it. And in Lucas' mind, we see him thinking that Paige has a firm handshake... And then his thought's go straight to how said hand would feel around him..? And there were just so many examples. THE AMOUNT OF TIMES I had to read about Lucas getting a semi or having to re-adjust his jeans just from watching Paige walk? And the amount of fantasies I had to read from Paige's perspective, about climbing that man like a freaking monkey? And then in the end we didn't even get a steamy scene. NOT ONE.

Last specific thing that really bugged me: towards the end of the book, Lucas is fixing the stairs, and he thinks to himself that he'll have to wait until the summer, to paint the steps. Because they're in mismatched colours. So then his mind goes to Paige and how her "matchy-matchy OCD" would not tolerate the steps being mismatched. Do we really need these kinda comments in 2021? I thought we as a society had moved past these kinds of comments? Like, seriously?

I'll give the book a big plus for the puppies. The puppies were cute.. Though I could've done without the excessive Ninja Turtles discussions (and I could also have done without knowing that talking about ninja turtles apparently was a turn-on for one of our main characters). But besides the puppies... this fell really flat for me. Some nice discussions and sweet moments thrown in here and there, but for the most part I was bored, didn't care for the characters, or their romance, and just wanted to be done with the story.
Sadly not the book for me.

I didn’t finish this book. I got 20% in, and I couldn’t take anymore. The cheesy lingo, the obnoxious gay assistant, the sex-crazed protagonist who was supposedly “so happy” to be single, and the “drop-dead gorgeous” male lead with the bad attitude, was all too much! I love romcoms and chick-flicks, but when a story is shallow and full of all lust, you won’t get far with me.

From what I read, Happy Single’s Day is like a season of the Bachelor or Bachelorette, the star goes lust crazy and confuses it with love, gets engaged, and within a year they’re heartbroken and back to square one. No thanks.

First off, could this book be any more perfect?! I don't think so!!

I loved the entire book 💖 the story, the characters, the setting! It was everything and more than I expected! The perfect book to curl up on the couch and read the day away 🥰 As soon as I saw the cover I knew I had to read it, and I am glad to say the book itself lived up to my expectations.

Paige was great. Determined, supportive, amusing, and relatable in so many ways. And Lucas was so closed off at the beginning, understandably so after learning about him. I loved the way we got to know almost everyone, even the puppies. I am a sucker for the small town stories, and I loved the fact that there was no cars on this island. That is something I would love to see in real life! Take me there!

The writing was well done, and easy to follow, which I really like when I'm in the mood for a lighter read. I never felt rushed while reading it, and I hope there will maybe be another book in the future that lets us know how these characters are doing (maybe Sophie 😉)

Overall, this was a cute, heartwarming, and lovable story full of family, friends, love, & loss.

A 3.5-star read.
Okay. I've thought long and hard about this because this was a solid four-star book with 5-star potential if Walked stuck the landing, but she made a decision (which she's totally free to do) that I totally disagree with and it actually took it down to those 3.5 stars for me.
With a plot that is predictably full of expertly handled tropes that any rom-com reader will love. Paige and Lucas are made for each other. They're both set in their ways and tend to think there's nothing missing in their lives. Then they wind up having to share a house and discover that all the things they thought were set in their lives were only the beginning. It's sweet and charming and enjoyable.
The plot moves at a great pace with characters that are lovable and lots of great moments. If it weren't for the fact that Walker decided that a big declaration Paige makes in the beginning about not needing to take a certain step in life to be fulfilled as a woman was invalid as soon as she fell in love, I would have been happy to rate this higher. It's a minor character element, but I was so happy to see a rom-com take such a non-traditional stance that seeing the last chapter crushing that stance annoyed me a lot more than it probably should. I'm just weird like that.

Many happy thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the early read!

Thank you NetGalley and SourceBookCasaBlanca for the eARC of Happy Singles Day. I really enjoyed this book. It was a cute second chance, enemies to lovers, rom com.

Paige, a professional organizer and a self proclaimed workaholic, decides that booking a week long vacation on a sleepy island in the middle of winter to is a perfect way to celebrate Singles Day and take a much needed vacation.

Lucas, a single Dad, is trying to keep is bed and breakfast afloat after the loss of his wife. The last thing he needs and wants is a guest in his house. But, thanks to his well intended sister, he really can't pass on this booking.

These two together in one house, what could go wrong?

This one has so much: Enemies to lovers (my favorite), forced proximity, funny moments, a Ryan Reynolds look alike (yes, please!), a cute 4 year old, single dad, puppy love, small town feel, and a second chance romance.
This is a low steam read for those that like a cleaner romance.
I definitely recommend if you are looking for a light fun read.

Happy Singles Day everyone! What is it? It is the day that singles everywhere rejoice on Singles Awareness Day (aka – the day after Valentine’s Day). But that spells SAD, and that’s not fun. So why not take a week-long trip to celebrate Singles Day?

In this story, we meet Paige, who decides to take such a trip, only to find out the bed and breakfast she booked is off-season and not quite how it was marketed. And just like her dwellings, the owner of the B&B (Lucas) is not quite how he was initially marketed. Cue the Hallmark movie-esque story! Only this has a bit more spice than a Hallmark movie allows.

Paige is a boss bitch who takes care of business herself (which I always enjoy seeing). Lucas is a widower trying to find his way with a daughter who can melt your heart. He lives on a small island I like to call Hallmark island, where everyone knows everyone and there’s only one way on and one way off. Can you tell where this story is going? Need I say more?

I really enjoyed this story! Watching how Paige and Lucas first met, and how the relationship changed was fun to watch. The supporting cast of characters was also interesting to read about, although they do not figure prominently enough – give me more!. By the end, I was not disappointed!

I think of fans of rom-coms will really enjoy this one. And even better, it is being released tomorrow! PSSST – see my picture above? I took it in my local bookstore this past weekend, so it may be out now!
