This book was phenomenal! But, when is Alice Feeney ever not? I have since read this book more than once. It’s filled with twists and the minute you think you know what’s going on the twist has a twist. This book was just *chefs kiss*!!
Alice Feeney's His & Hers is the kind of thriller that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. I devoured this audiobook in just two sittings—a rarity for me since I usually spread my listening over a few days or a week. But from the moment I pressed play, I was utterly hooked.
The story alternates between Anna Andrews, a fiercely ambitious BBC presenter clinging to her career, and DCI Jack Harper, a detective carrying secrets as heavy as his badge. Their lives collide over a murder investigation in Blackdown, a quaint yet sinister village where past and present intertwine in deadly ways. Add to this mix a third, enigmatic narrator whose voice sent shivers down my spine—so eerie and unsettling, it elevated the atmosphere to pure psychological suspense.
What makes this story stand out is its complexity and darkness. Anna and Jack are flawed, compelling characters whose tangled history adds layers to the mystery. As secrets unravel and the body count rises, I found myself enthralled by the relentless twists. Just when I thought I had it figured out, Feeney delivered another gut-punch revelation. The ending was as shocking as it was satisfying—completely unpredictable yet perfectly fitting.
The narration by Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine was outstanding, with their voices bringing Anna and Jack’s perspectives to life in vivid detail. The creepy third voice? Genius. It heightened the tension and made this audiobook an immersive experience unlike any other thriller I've listened to.
If you love dark mysteries brimming with unreliable narrators, buried secrets, and edge-of-your-seat suspense, His & Hers is a must-read (or must-listen). This is hands-down my favorite Alice Feeney novel so far, and I’m eager to dive into whatever she writes next.
This took me forever to finally get to and I'm kicking myself for that. This audiobook was perfect for this story. the voice actors did an amazing job. the twists and turns played out so well I couldn't stop listening. I would just keep working and doing chores as long as i could finish listening to this book. The plot just kept going and once I thought it was finished, nope, another twist. I will listen to all of Alice Feeney's books by audiobook now.
Gave this book a try but overall didn’t enjoy it. Wasn’t able to get into the story as much as I wanted to.
This is phenomenal on audio. It took me about 5 minutes to fall in love with the narration of this twisted tale. Highly recommend you go the audio route if possible. I love this author. She never disappoints and keeps me on my toes!
Congrats on another fantastic twisted tale. Highly recommend.
I ended up switching to physical for this book and it was just easier for me to follow. I enjoyed the twists and turns and life being on the edge of my seat!
REALLY enjoyed this one. I'm fairly new to audiobooks and the narrator's voice and story had me hooked. I listened to it in two sittings and I didn't want it to end. The story has lots of surprises and twists and turns....definitely did not see that end coming! I'll read, or listen, to anything Alice Feeney does.
This was so intriguing!! I love the dual POV and the story was told in such a fun way. I was hooked from the begining.
I do not like when the book focusses on the police so that really lost me and I did not care when it switched to that character
I received an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley and publisher Macmillan Audio in exchange for an honest review.
His & Hers is the story of two exes and their respective involvement in a murder investigation as a reporter and a police officer. When Anna's ex-friend and Jack's current lover Rachel is found murdered in a car, it becomes the start of a murder spree focused around people from their past. As they both try to figure out what's going on, trust begins to wane on both sides and neither knows exactly who to trust.
This was an enjoyable thriller, albeit one which suffers a little from its own simplicity in plot. Due to the author and general blurb, I was expecting a twist going in and so I spent a lot of the time trying to work out what it was instead of focusing on the story being told. The story itself is a decent one but if you're used to other works by the author, you might be disappointed by the relative 'straight-forwardness' of the thriller element. It is engaging and surprising, but doesn't have a huge trick like some of the other works.
As an audiobook, this mostly worked well but there was some confusion in the voices. There are two narrators for Anna and Jack, and then additional sections narrated by the killer. Presumably to prevent it being obvious who is the killer, they are alternatively narrated by Anna and Jack's voice actors using a distortion technique, but this only serves as a distraction. I do wish they'd just gotten in a third voice actor rather than swapping between them, as again it just primes you for a twist at best and is distracting at worst. I found myself just ignoring these sections mostly as they weren't particularly insightful or interesting.
Overall, this was an enjoyable enough listen. The narrators did a great job with the material and the story is interesting enough to keep your attention. If you go in expecting a typical (well-written) thriller, then you're in for a good time
Overall Rating: 3/5 stars
Loved this story, all the twists and turns and who dunnits. I didn’t see that end coming. Alice Feeney is always great for an amazing plot twists. I always feel like I am right there in all the stories she tells.
Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties on my end, I couldn’t get the file to download before it disappeared, and was archived. I will definitely try to read or listen to it in the future, however.
I finally decided to give this one another go. Since the audiobook went away before I had a chance to read it.
I am becoming an Alice Feeney but sadly this one just wasn’t a favorite. I wanted to love it like I did her newer books sadly I didn’t.
I was not keen on the narration style, and realise that for me I just don't get on with audiobooks. The plot was great and the content was great, but I didn't get as in to it as I would with a book. I feel unfair rating this as 3 stars, as I am sure it would be much higher in written form for me.
Loved the mystery and suspense of who the killer was. Totally shocking, the multiple narrators were brilliant and have the killers voice distorted gave this audio a chilly effect
I listened to the audiobook for this novel. I really enjoyed all the twist and turns in the plot and would recommend this book to others looking for a great thriller.
I liked the premise of the story, but I couldn't like the characters. Everyone seems so untrustworthy, as I'm sure the author designed in order to keep the reader guessing, but that left us without someone to root for. By the end, I was just glad to have a resolution and didn't really care one way or another who the perpetrator was. Even the twist at the end fell flat for me.
I did not get around to reading this book prior to it’s publication date and it has since been archived therefore I cannot leave a review at this time.
Well, this was one heck of a book! I started off reading it, then switched to the audiobook and ended up loving it!! The narrators were really great, and the story was super fast-paced with lots of twists and turns. I was shocked by the ending too, which is always a plus. Alice Feeney is becoming a favorite author of mine!
Wow! I couldn’t put this down! Feeney has a unique thriller style that I just love. I would read anything by her!
