Alice Feeney does it again! I loved the multiple perspectives in this book. The audiobook had good narrators and the mystery person's voice was disguised so you did not know who the one character was until the end. This book was suspenseful, engaging with a dark, twisting plot.
I received an advance copy of this audio book in exchange for my honest review. My thanks to NetGalley, MacMillan Audio, and Alice Feeney for the opportunity.
I do not read many psychological thrillers, but having read one of Alice Feeney’s previous books, I knew I had to give this book a try, and it did not disappoint.
This murder mystery is told from three points of view: His, Hers, and the killer’s. Without giving too much away, there was a group of girls who were friends in school. Fast forward to adulthood, and one by one, the now grown girls are being found dead. I thought I knew who the killer was from the beginning, and changed my answer numerous times as the story twists and turns. In the end, I got the answer horribly wrong.
I feel that the different narrators in the audio version really helped bring the story to life, and the voice of the killer added an extra layer of creepiness.
Oh my goodness!! This is a book, it was so well done I was sucked in from the first chapter. The main characters are unreliable and I love that. The twists and turns are good and don’t seem made up just for a twist. I really enjoyed this.
Also I received the audio book. The narrator was excellent.
I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review.
Alas, I had some teething issues with trying to download this book to the netgalley shelf app on my phone. It just never completed the file download.
I loved the debut book by this author, so was very excited to try this one. Unfortunately (for me) it was just not to be.
Could not complete a read (listen) to review.
Eerie, terrifying, and almost realistic. This story centers around a London reporter who returns home to a sleepy, Surrey town to cover a murder. Little does she know, she used to be friends with the girl who was murdered.
So good who. I love when there are multiple twists up until the end. This is the first thriller I've read in awhile that's impressed me. Insanely good, terrifying, and creepy.
Highly recommend if you liked Kind Worth Killing or A Good Marriage.
I am already an Alice Feeney fan and this book was one of her best. This was told from 3 narrators a female and male (ex-wife/ex-husband) , There is also the voice of a 3rd narrator who is anonymous for most of the book. I enjoyed the additional voice which gave you a new perspective but yet you weren't quite sure who was giving that to you. The story begins with the murder of a beautiful woman in her hometown and then we follow the story through the eyes of the local detective and the journalist who is covering the case.
Alice Feeney's books usually have some intersting twists and turns and this one sure did. There is some graphic violence as well as sexual assault so it's not always easy reading.
Overall the story was quite solid and the plot while intricate flowed nicely, there were a few plotlines that I felt were not quite resolved as thoroughly as I would have wanted. But overall the ending did tie things up and answer most of the readers questions.
4 stars
Thank you Netgalley for this audiobook ARC.
His & Hers by Alice Feeney was a fantastically twisted psychological thriller. There are three POV’s and the story would not be the same without them. The audiobook was fantastic, and the narrators did a beautiful job of conveying the tense feeling one wants to feel when reading a thriller. The book is fast-paced and did not disappoint. The book was extremely well written. Alice Feeney has established herself as a psychological thrill writer, she will be on my list of reads every time she publishes a new book!
***** I received an ARC from NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my honest review. *****
Fans of psychological thrillers must read this book! Told in 3 voices: His (a divorced detective) and Hers (a BBC news correspondent) and the Killer. The story is brilliantly structured, I felt like I was on a Scrambler carnival ride while reading it. You gather your facts and say to yourself I've got it figured out and then theres a twist you never saw coming, this repeats often. What an exhilarating, suspense filled read. Feeney's at the top of her game with this thriller, although I still prefer her first book Sometimes I Lie a bit more. Unlike that book where the ending left you with so many questions, this one is crystal clear as to who the killer is; you won't be left with any questions except how did the author create such a twisted story.
HIS & HERS is another fabulous thriller from Alice Feeney. Full of twists and turns and highly unlikeable characters (which I love). It’s very fast-paced and I found myself dragging out my drives or walks so I could listen to just a little bit more. The performances are top notch but I wouldn’t expect anything less of Richard Armitage as I’d happily listen to him narrate a phonebook. ;) Overall, a highly enjoyable listening experience.
Thank you to the publisher for the advance listening copy.
His & Hers was a wild ride and enjoyed so much listening to the audiobook! The writing is very good and the plot twists, omg... I did not see that ending, it definitely kept me guessing all the way until the end. Alice Feeney is now one of my favourite thriller authors because of this novel, loved the dynamics between all the characters and I was at the edge of my seat the whole time.
The narrators were spectacular, Richard Armitage narrated His point of view, and the sound of his voice did incredible things.
Absolutely recommend this book as an audiobook!
His & Hers was a THRILLING roller coaster ride of a book - white-clenched fists all the way to the last page. I loved the way the author was able to capture the essence of complicated lives (divorce) in such a way that frightened me about my children getting married! 😱 The way the book was written in two perspectives really built the foundation for the reader to create their own "mind map" to the truth - which I LOVED! It had me guessing and more than once I was happily surprised I was wrong about what I had deduced. Excellent read and would easily recommend to my friends. 😁
Wow! This blew me away. Everyone said that the narration on this book was amazing, and I have to say I agree. This was my first audio book ever, and I was extremely impressed.
Absolutely loved this one, and the ending was amazing.
I had a hard time with this audiobook and in the end I stopped listening and picked up the finished version from my library. The narrators—the murderer and male MC (especially the murderer)—were way to hard to understand when they were speaking. The narration was muffled and echoey and I felt like I was missing everything they were saying. I know that for the murderer the voice is supposed to be disguised, but it was bad. Even in the finished version I was missing things, though the quality did seem to be better.
Audiobook aside, I did enjoy the story! It was full of twist and kept me guessing!
I’m really sorry, but I got this the first week of audiobooks and it would not download. I have to leave 100 word comment, so I’m still writing.
This book was 👍. All of the characters are full of mystery and the narrators are all very convincing. It was like you’re in the same scene with them...although the story started with a gory crime scene. Overall I enjoyed it. Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and author for the audiobook.
The audio was extremely well done. The narration gave such a creep factor to the story. I would have enjoyed actually reading this, but the audio definitely increased my level of enjoyment. As for the story, this was quite a ride! The ending was twisted and I loved it. I always enjoy endings that come out of left field, and this one was no different.

If you’re looking for page-turning, immersive mysteries to survive the late-summer sticky heat, I’ve got two: Alex North’s The Shadows and Alice Feeney’s His & Hers. Both are set in northern England, have in-over-their-heads main characters, and dramatic chase scenes in the woods. While His & Hers, —good in a Gone Girl-way—has one too many twists at the end, there’s juicy dialogue, girl jealousy and suspicious boyfriends in this story of a TV reporter covering a murder in her hometown. Sometimes we need a little pulp fiction.
📙
The Shadows is better and goes well in this heat with Panzanella, the Tuscan salad my daughter made. (Her version is better than both the Italians and Melissa Clark’s). 25 years on, Paul Adams is haunted by the unsolved murder of his childhood friend. Lucid dreaming and supernatural underpinnings move this into Stephen King territory, but the present/past back-and-forth never confuse and heighten the suspense. North clearly is a seasoned writer as there are no missteps throughout, and as he balances achingly imperfect characters into a believable resolution.

This audiobook was amazing! I listened to it in a 24 hour period. That is something that I normally don't do as I normally will listen to audiobooks on my commute to work. This book though I could not stop listening to.
We follow Anna and Jack you are mysteriously connected at the beginning of the story. The story is also told with a third narrator that makes this book so creepy, but that was part of why I could not stop listening to it.
Rachel dies in Anna's hometown and she gets a chance to cover the story as a newscaster. Jack is a police officer and is working the case and his partner ends up making him a suspect. This book took so many twists and turns. This is one of the best thrillers I have red this year and highly recommend it to anyone who will listen,
*Thanks to NetGalley audiobook shelf, and the incredible Alice Feeney for an audio ARC of this book!*
I don't even know where to start with this one.
IT WAS SOOOOOO GOOD!!
I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I had read it first. The narrators did a fantastic job portraying the highly unreliable characters, Jack and Anna. And of course there was that 3rd voice that was CREEPY AF! I thought I knew exactly who the killer was about 1/2 way through. Wrong. I thought I knew who it was for certain about 4 more times. Wrong. The ending was a shock and left my mouth wide open and my husband staring at me like I looked like some sort of thing from Stranger Things.
I've been reading a lot of thrillers lately, and I haven't had that jaw-dropping experience where I'm blown away in 4-5 books, so it was amazing to get it back! This is my first book by Alice Feeney and it wont be the last! I'm going to hunt down the rest of her books and read them asap!
There was also a ton of very delicious prose and one liners in the story that I loved and related to big time. Feeney has a way of making every task feel like you've done it that way a thousand times even if you've never done it before. Like making tea for instance. I'm a coffee drinker, but how she described it... It felt like I was there watching it happen.
The supporting cast was full of people that I wouldn't be friends with. People who get caught up in a smalltown life and make some really poor decisions. There was some graphic explanations about certain events that made my skin crawl and yet, it wouldn't have had the same affect if it had been watered down.
If you are after a dark, gritty thriller with many unlikeable and unreliable characters, are not afraid of violence, then I would definitely recommend this! And you have to listen to it first before you read it!!
I love the concept behind His & Hers! Such a clever story, having two characters tell their side of the story (a bit like One of Us Is Lying). As with every Alice Feeney novel, it was wonderfully twisty, including (what I thought was) an especially clever surprise near the end.
I will say that Feeney's Sometimes I Lie is still my favorite of hers, as her other two books have stretched the believe-ability factor a bit too far for me. However, I find that "believe-ability" is entirely personal, as everyone as different elements that trip their threshold. So -- I did enjoy aspects of this story and I can totally understand why so many people I know loved this one. It just depends what you're looking for. If you want a dark, totally wild psychological thriller with unreliable narrator and tons of twists that keeps you hooked from page one (and don't mind a stretch of the imagination here and there), you'll likely enjoy His & Hers.
Thank you to FlatIron Books via Netgalley for providing an advanced digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
