Jack, a detective and Anna, a news presenter, used to be married to one another and they both knew of the murdered women...the story is cleverly presented from the perspectives of “him” and “her”.

As the story unfolds it becomes an anxious time for Anna as old school friends start to turn up dead!

Your mind keeps guessing for the answers as the plot twists, turns and lures you deeper into the story.

The big reveal is a shocker so prepare yourselves for this read!

Dare I say it? I think the TV series will be better than the book! I recently read this book will be turned into a show, and I hope the actors inject the story with more energy, because this was a slog. I hate to say it, but the story just felt so recycled, with too many coincidences and full of predictable cliches and a dissatisfying ending. Maybe it's just me, but the pace, the characters, the plot just weren't working to capture my attention, and the ending is dragged out to the point it almost becomes comical. I generally like the author and was excited about His & Hers, and I hope other readers love it, but sadly, it just wasn't for me. Also, you should know, there are descriptions of rape and animal cruelty in this book, which may be triggering for some, and which I found quite disturbing.

I feel that this novel was well written and very thrilling. I had no idea who was the killer until the end and I definitely guessed wrong. I will say that the animal cruelty in this disturbed me and really took me out of the story. I feel like the ending really did tie everything together very well. The narrator was easy to listen to and did a great job. I didn’t find myself getting distracted or my mind wandering. I would read more by this author in the hopes that future books also don’t have animal cruelty. I think it’s the one thing I can’t handle in any story.

This is the first time I have read or listened to an Alice Feeney book and the description of the plot really appealed to me. When a woman is murdered, DCI Jack Harper heads up the investigation while his ex wife newsreader Anna Andrews covers the case. We discover early on in the book that both are keeping secrets and have some involvement in the life of the victim.
The audiobook is read by dual narrators- Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine- who really bring the characters to life. I usually love listening to a book with multiple narrators as I feel that it really brings the story alive for me.
However, despite the best efforts of the narrators I found this book to be a slow paced and unsatisfactory listen with an unbelievable plot that was full of cliches. I gave up several times but persevered to the end. I had no empathy for either of the main characters and little interest in finding out who the murderer was.
4 stars for narration and 2 stars for the plot and the standard of writing.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC.

Spiderwebs!

His & Hers was a thriller full of spiderwebs. There were so many surprise connections revealed in this story between the victims and survivors. After an unexpected change at her news anchor job, Anna is sent to cover a murder in her hometown. Her former husband Jack is the detective investigating the murder. As the story unfolds, connections and secrets are revealed that result in a surprise ending.

I don't really like audiobooks with multiple narrators, but I was fairly pleased with His & Hers. Told from the perspective of Anna, Jack, and the murderer, the voices for Anna and Jack were very well done. I did not like the editing for the murderer's voice-i thought my app was broken. It sounded like a record on very slow speed. It was kind of obnoxious, but not a deal breaker. I did enjoy the story and it's a sign of a good mystery when I am not able to guess the criminal! Thank you to NetGalley!

Wow! What a twisty and unpredictable psychological thriller! A slowburn that weaved an intriguing mystery involving Anna, a news reporter, and her ex-husbsnd, the lead detective, trying to solve a murder investigation. . I honestly couldn't guess with any certainty who done it!

The plot primarily alternates between two perspectives - his, the police detective, and hers, Anna. There is also a third perspective intermingled that belongs to the killer. I thought the chapters alternated smoothly and the ending wrapped it all up perfectly. Fantastic suspense and build up. The last quarter of the book was impossible to put down

I received an audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, and enjoyed the performance of the two narrators. The male narrator at times whispered his lines, which made it hard to hear....but otherwise an engaging rendition.

While I liked both of the books I've previously read by Alice Feeney, I absolutely LOVED this one. It starts with a detective named Jack, a reporter named Anna, and the discovery of a dead body. It turns out that not only do Jack and Anna both know each other, but they also both know the victim. The book jumps between their two POVs, with the addition of a more sporadic third POV. The third POV is an unknown narrator and especially on audio, is masterfully done. The unknown narrators voice in the audiobook reminded me of the news interviews where a person is blacked out and their voice is distorted. It was perfect. This is by far one of the best books I've read this year and will be hard for many to top.

As you all know I LOVE audiobooks (I am the Audio-bookshrine for a reason!), so I was so excited to see that net galley was featuring audiobooks. I’m a huge fan and this was the perfect way to start. The dual narrated novel (well tri-narrated to be specific) kept me on the edge of my seat, listening with my heart pounding and anxiety RACING until the end. My only qualm was I felt there was one too many twists toward the end. Feeney is an amazing writer and I can’t wait to read what she’s got next.

Rave Review!!! I fell in love with Alice Feeney after reading Sometimes I Lie a few years ago. She is absolutely brilliant. I read a lot of psychological thrillers (probably my favorite genre!) and after a while, you can grow to predict the twists and see when a writer depends on tricky shortcuts and inconsistencies. Not so with Alice Feeney!!! This one kept me guessing until the very end, and could have had any number of endings that ALL would have made good sense! This is very hard to pull off! Captivating, addicting! A story of murder, secrets, bullying, family, toxic friendship and love. Five enthusiastic stars!

Perfect For Fans Of:

Then She Was Gone
The Girl on the Train

Alice Feeney returns with what is sure to be one of my most highly praised mystery thriller genre books of 2020. Set outside London, Jack and Anna have gone their separate ways since the loss of their daughter, but their careers intersect when she reports on crimes that he is investigating. When people start turning up dead from their past friend group, they each become suspects and possible next victims. Could this be revenge for a horrible night twenty years ago? To paraphrase my favorite line - there are two sides to every event, his and hers, theirs and ours... my favorite version is my story! I enjoyed the twists and turns, and the audiobook was wonderful! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC, all opinions are my own.

The book begins with a chilling opening from the killer’s POV describing their intentions to “kill them all.” Soon we learn that a woman named Rachel has been killed and her body is left in the usually quiet and quaint Blackdown Woods, England, baffling everyone, including the chief of police, Jack, who is in charge of this case.

Jack’s ex-wife, Anna, who worked hard to climb up the ladder to become a BBC news reporter, is suddenly demoted to news correspondent, when an old colleague returns. Anna decides to use this murder case as a way to propel her back to where she really belongs. Jack and Anna are often at loggerheads with each other stemming from their shared turbulent past, often making it a cat and mouse game to find the killer.

The book is divided into 3 first-person POVs: the killer, him (Jack) and her (Anna). If you listen to the audio, the killer has a morphed, eerie voice. Jack, Anna and other lead characters are all connected with the deceased Rachel and even the subsequent murders as the body count rises, making every single main character suspect with good motives. There are lots of twists and turns, some of which I saw coming but I definitely failed in predicting the actual killer. I am not much of an audiobooks person but the 2 narrators in this book were stellar!

Ms. Feeney has a way of writing that really catapults you into the story. However I docked half a point because of cat cruelty, a scene that could have been completely omitted. I also docked another half because - unpopular opinion here - the killer was unbelievable. Of all the main characters that could have been the plausible killer, it turned out to be the most unrealistic person.

4.5 stars

Talk about twisty! This book had so much going on, I almost couldn't keep up. It was fast-paced with unreliable narrators, grisly murders, teenage flashbacks, and a bunch of potential suspects.

The story switches between her (Anna) and him (Anna's ex-husband, Jack). There are also excerpts from the murderer which (on audio) is told through a voice distorter. The story takes Anna back to her home town where she is reporting on a series of murders that her ex-husband is investigating. Both are silently questioning the other's involvement. Because they both knew the victims, and they are both hiding things. Secrets, lies, betrayal, blackmail. There's a bit of everything buried in Blackdown.

I loved listening to this one and was fully invested in the story. I thought the flashback themes were brilliantly executed and sensitively tackled. There was a definite motive in the murders which is something I need in order for a thriller to be deemed successful in my eyes.

I was caught off-guard for pretty much every twist. And just when I thought I'd worked it out, bam, another twist and I was way off. It was very cleverly crafted with a range of suspicious characters that each had their own hidden agendas.

Alice Feeney knows exactly what it takes to construct such a multi-layered thriller and should never be underestimated. Believe me, you'll think you'll have worked this one out but you will be way off. Highly recommend for the sleuth readers out there!

This book had me hooked from the beginning. I love audiobooks where each POV has a different narrator so I was excited to find this one did. The story itself kept me guessing...I did get an inkling for the correct murderer but there were so many red herrings that I just wasn't sure till the absolute end. I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy to add to my home collection! This thriller is definitely worth a read or a listen.

I listened to the audio book version and it was very well done. The narrators were excellent. The story was a real whodunit and even right up until the end I was not sure if I fully understand everything that happened and who made it all happen. There is some language and some sensitive topics, but a pretty good story.

His & Hers by Alice Feeney | review.

Genre: Thriller.

Rating: Five stars.

Oh man… This book was a wild, twisted ride!

Seriously, everyone in this story is terrible and I had zero idea who the killer was until the very end! This book was so completely fun and addicting! His & Hers is told from the perspective of three people- Detective Jack Harper, his ex-wife and TV reporter- Anna Andrews, and the mysterious murder talking through a super creepy voice changer.

When a body of a young women is discovered, both Jack and Anna’s world’s are rocked when they realize they might be suspects. This one is fast paced, complex and super twisty. I listened to the audiobook and LOVED it.

This is a terrific thriller that I totally recommend… especially for the upcoming spooky season!

Thank you to MacMillian Audio and NetGalley for an audiobook copy of His & Hers in return for an honest review!

(Trigger warning- SIDS, child sexual abuse, & animal abuse.)

Thank you Netgalley and MacMillan Audio for the gifted audiobook.

So this was my very first audio book. I always thought I'd get too distracted to listen to a book, but I started jogging and thought that was the perfect opportunity to try it out. What a book to start with! The narrators were fantastic, the killer's voice was distorted, and the plot was engaging. I didn't want to stop each night after my jog!

The story is told in alternating POV - His, Hers, and the killer. Jack was the "His" and he is a detective still reeling from the death of his baby and separation from his wife. He gets called to investigate a murder and knows the victim. "Hers" is Anna and she is a news presenter and Jack's ex wife. She is quite the hot mess, and gets bumped down when Kat Jones returns from an extended maternity leave. She covers the murder - and she also knows the victim! The plot unravels with more murders and lots of back story. I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong TWICE! The twists were just spot on!

The only thing I wasn't crazy about is all of the back story this book had. There was a LOT. It was mostly necessary to the plot but at some points I was like, "Okay, enough".

Definitely a great thriller, and I will definitely recommend!

This was definitely a thrilling ride. Just when you thought you knew what was coming, you realized you didn't!

The book is told from 3 POVs: an Insoector's, a reporter's, and the killer's. And I had no idea who was the killer till the very end!

I listened to the audiobook, and I loved that there were different narrators for each of the 3 POVs - the killer's distorted voice was distorted and creepy, which added to the mystery.

I wasn't emotionally invested in the 2 POV characters, especially because I was wondering if either was the killer, so I didn't really care about them. Evenso, the twisty story kept my attention till the very end.

Trigger Warning: SIDS, child sexual abuse, animal abuse

First of all thank you so much to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the early copy of this! While this was my first audiobook I’ve listened to via the new NetGalley app, it might just be my last, as well. Very glitchy, the audio speed options were absolutely ridiculous, and the audio quality was just not great. I really wish they would have worked more on the app before releasing it because it’s really not great.

Anyway! I really enjoyed this thriller! I was guessing up until the very last moment and was completely shocked by the ending! His & Hers has three narrators; Anna, Jack, and the murderer. The murderer’s sections have this really chilling voice disguiser sound and it’s honestly very unsettling. I loved the other narrators for this, too, and there wasn’t a single voice I didn’t like, which can be rare for me in a dual narration audiobook.

This was on the darker side of most thrillers I read and I made sure to include the trigger warnings in this review because there were moments where I was totally shocked by what I was hearing. This novel is just full of twists and turns and with every chapter that glides by you’re left shaking your head and running things over in your mind. I literally spent the whole book thinking “oh she did it” or “oh he did it” and I couldn’t have ever guessed the ending.

I really enjoyed the classic sort of elements the author used here; small town dynamics, group of friends with secrets, reliving the past, “coming home” trope, jaded detective. There were all these little tropes that you see in psychological thrillers that were combined in this novel spectacularly. I did read some reviews that said it went too far in terms of some of the graphic descriptions and plot lines but I disagree. It was gritty, to be sure, but it really helped give the novel an air of suspense. There were a thousand little layers to this, not all of them good, but it sure was a hell of a ride.

This was my first Alice Feeney novel so I’m very much interested in reading some of her others, especially if they’re as twisty and turny (not really a word, but it is now!) as this one! Great rec for someone looking for a dark and twisty thriller!

Anna Andrews doesn’t make it home to Blackdown very often. She prefers to avoid painful reminders of a past best left behind. Her career in journalism however, makes a trip to her hometown necessary. Back in Blackdown, she finds herself immersed in a murder investigation.
Detective Jack Harper has a history in Blackdown as well, along with a history with Anna.

A brilliant psychological thriller narrated by his and her, will keep you guessing until the very end…

Chilling story with great narrators! I will be checking out more works by Alice Feeney!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook!
