I’m still reeling from this one! The story is told from three perspectives, “Hers” is Anna Andrews, a reported for the BBC who was just demoted to reporting on street crimes from her job as head reporter on the news show, “His”, DCI Jack Harper, Anna’s ex-husband and lead detective on a recent homicide of a woman in Blacktown, hometown to them both, then the third narrator, a mystery speaker who could be a man or a woman. Intriguing, no?? When it turns out that both Jack and Anna have a history with victim #1, it seems a coincidence, but then more bodies start piling up. Fast paced story, and a winner in my book! Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for this excellent mystery.

This was an interesting read. With an original presentation, alternating chapters by him or her, depending on whom is talking/thinking/acting: the male or the female main character. A bit predictable in the end but entertaining

Wow. Wow. Wow. I listened to the audio version of this book. First of all, the narrators are perfect - easy to understand and the creepy voice made it so much fun to listen to! I could not wait to get back to listening whenever I had to stop. Young women are being killed and you cannot figure out who it is - well you think you have it figured out several times and then, nope! This book has everything I love in a thriller - twists, turns, creepy throughout, and shocking enough that you can't stop thinking about things in this book! Bravo to the author. I loved her other book, Sometimes I Lie, also! This audio book though, after listening to it, I may have to also read it! Thank you NetGalley for letting me listen, I may not have initially listened to the audio version, and I would have been missing out!

I was so blown away by His & Hers, I don’t even know where to start. Never a fan of audiobooks, I was convinced by the Bookstagram community that His & Hers on audio was amazing.

Told by three points of view; his, hers and the killer. This book kept me guessing up until the very end. Full of twists and turns you will never see coming. Will definitely be in my top five books of 2020.

Thank you to NetGalley, Alice Feeney and Macmillan Audio for the copy of His & Hers audiobook in exchange for my review.

A deliciously dark, delightfully twisted psychological thriller that I could not put down. Feeney has crafted a tight story-line with strong character development, unexpected plot twists and a steady ratcheting up of suspense that kept me fully engaged and wanting to know what happens next. There is a lot of themes to unpack in this tautly woven story: from alcoholism, family secrets and misguided loyalties to mean girls, peer pressure and animal cruelty. Told through three narrative voices - aspiring news anchor Anna Andrews, her ex-husband DCI Jack Harper and a third, disguised 'confessor' - the reader is left trying to figure out not just who the killer is, but how reliable is the information they provide. As we all know, there are two sides to every story, and Feeney has taken this as the vehicle for this suspense ride. It doesn't help that neither Jack or Anna are exactly forthcoming with information and there are moments when they admit to questioning what they think they know.

Set in small town Blackburn, where everyone knows everyone - and both Anna and Jack have a history - the story shifts through past and present, slowly revealing to the reader possible motivations and suspects. Besides the murders, there are other things to raise the readers interest - for example, what is up Priya, the new police officer so eager to please Jack, her supervisor? - so don't expect this to be an easy whodunnit to solve with a quick "aha" discovery moment. Feeney distracts the reader with some red herrings, keeping this reader guessing, right up to the end.

I listened to the audio-book, wonderfully narrated by Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine. Masking the 'confessor's' voice using voice-altering technology added to my audio enjoyment of this story, as I kept trying to guess who (Anna? Jack? someone else?) was this third voice. I love stories where everyone is a suspect! I kept trying to find subtle clues in the confessor's narration, but darn it all, Feeney does not make any slip ups here. I should mention that this is my first novel by Feeney, so I am not able to provide any comments comparing it to her earlier published works.

At its heart, this is a fast-paced, murder mystery that I think will appeal to fans of Tana French's 'Dublin Murder Squad' series, with 'Faithful Place' coming to mind.

I received this audiobook from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange from an honest review.

“There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, His & Hers. Which means someone is always lying. When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation. Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.”

Despite the exciting synopsis, I almost put this book down around the 45% mark due to having such a slow burn and feeling a bit boring. The characters Anna and Jack, while both relatively good interesting, are also very unlike-able at first. Neither seems to be a particularly good person and have no cemented relationships with other people. Also being that this is an audiobook the third perspective of the killer was ultra creepy and the distorted voice made me jump when I first came on.

However at that 45% mark it was like the gear flipped on and boy did it make the entire read worth it. Every new development of plot revealed the mysteries surrounding what happened when Anna was 16, what happened with Charlotte, and who our killer was now. It brought life into what I had thought were annoying and terrible people and made me realize I was actually cheering for them.

The mystery itself is a classic whodunnit with wild red herrings, hidden evidence, and a killer killer (sorry couldn’t help it). Every time I thought I knew who was the killer was, I was proven wrong. Some twists I guessed but the major and final twist I did not see coming.

My only fault with the novel is that while side characters or victims are usually expendable in a novel like this, I thought Feeney did a disservice to one particular character. In an attempt not to spoil anything I will say that there’s a point where the suffering and tragedy of certain victims are undeserved and ultimately detrimental to the view of the other characters (I hope you’ll all come to know who I mean).

Otherwise a stellar Alice Feeney novel! Thank you to Netgalley, Alice Feeney, and flatiron books for the advanced listen of “His and Hers” in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of the best audiobooks I’ve read! The narration is so well done - the voice of the killer scared me out of my mind! This is a fun, twisty, super creepy domestic thriller with some Pretty Little Liars vibes and one heck of a twist! I raced through it in a single day!

Loved another book by this author so I was excited to get this one. Unfortunately, I didn’t like this one as much.

It’s well written and the flipping of narrators is handled well. I’ll give it that, and there’s quite a few twists also. The characters are brutal, just awful. There’s also far too many coincidences and it’s quite unrealistic, at times, as well.

I didn’t see where this was headed and that it wrapped up that way was interesting. I’m not sure if I’m on board with it or not... This was a lot to take in. It’s a pretty crazy ride. I will try the next by this author.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Macmillan Audio for a copy in exchange for a review.

Omg, WHAT A TWISTED F#*!ING RIDE!!! I absolutely LOVED the audio version- the voice of the killer is freaking TERRIFYING- I simultaneously loved/hated how it was all creepy and distorted and had me laying in bed at night wide awake and heart pounding!

I read lots of thrillers, and usually find them pretty predictable, but this one kept me guessing until the very end, and I. WAS. SHOCKED.

Wish there had been some trigger warnings about the animal cruelty & sexual assault . I think the story could have done without these, and these parts were very disturbing. But aside from this, the book was fantastic!

This was okay!!! It kept me guessing throughout, but it was a bit too much focussed on drama rather than the murders imo. I also felt like the ending was a bit random and didn't really fit in with the rest of the story 🙈 It didn't really make sense to me. Still, it's a solid murder-mystery and the audiobook really added another layer to the story!

I went to listen to this book but it disappeared from my book list on the app. I looked forward to listening and reviewing. I have enjoyed her other books

A murder in the area of Blackdown reconnects Jack and Anna - (a police detective and news reporter respectively) who are also former partners. In addition they both know the victim in their own way. The tension between the couple remains and Jack believes Anna’s professional involvement threatens to invade the work of the police. As the investigation progresses Jack is astonished to discover that he is considered a suspect. Jack and Anna talk from their perspectives (His and Hers), however, other characters surface and you begin to cast doubt on Jack being responsible for this crime. Nothing will prepare you for the actual ending though and the revelation that comes with it!

I ventured into the world of audiobooks with @books_obsession1 as we did a buddy read. I found I was distracted with not having a physical book to read from and needed to listen to a couple of chapters again so I didn’t miss anything vital. Some of the voices/accents that the characters took on were a little irritating but it wasn’t too off putting. I was enticed by the mystery of the story and the sadness that the main characters had experienced. The pace of the story was appropriate and I enjoyed learning about the characters especially Jack and Anna. By the end I had really got into this alternative medium of storytelling. I would encourage anyone who hasn’t already to try an audiobook as I definitely will read another one in the future (albeit not giving up physical books as my preferred method though)!

Wow, wow, wow! The narration by Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine was perfectly cast for this edge of your seat thriller. Their voices were made for the characters of Jack and Anna. I switched between reading the book and preferred the audiobook, the narration made the book come to life. Full of twists you don't see coming, you will think you have solved this one and will be blown away when you reach the end!

This was such a good audiobook! It was told from three different perspectives: His, Hers and the truth. His is Detective Jack Harper who is investigating a murder. The victim happens to be someone he knows well. The Her is Anna Andrews, a reporter sent to cover the murder, while also being a little too involved.

I loved the way this story unfolded. There were a lot of twists and I kept trying to guess who the murderer was and how everyone was involved. The audiobook was so good, especially with the third perspective being done using a voice disguise so you don't know if the truth is a male or a female.

If you are into thrillers/suspense, this is a great book to check out, especially on audio!

*Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the audiobook in exchange for my opinions.

Thanks to NetGalley I was able to listen to the audiobook of His and Hers by Alice Feeney! I loved it! The different perspectives help pull you right into the story. Definitely got me in the mood for murder stories just in time for fall to start! Highly recommended for those that love murder mysteries! Maybe you can guess the killer.

A riveting psychological thriller that had me literally sitting on the edge of the seat through the entire audiobook. A captivating narration and an equally engrossing plot that did not falter it's pace till the very end. This book checked all the boxes that I would want in an audiobook of this genre. I had listened to this audiobook on the Netgalley app. The app had some glitches but that's a story for another place, however, these glitches were an impedance to the listening experience.

I had a hard time with this book and just couldn’t get into the story. Narrator was fine but audiobooks on net galley have sound issues

This is the first audiobook that I've ever reviewed.

An alcoholic news anchor called Anna Andrews who will do anything for her career.
There is a murder in Blackdown, a tiny little village in Surrey and Anna is sent to be the correspondent for the BBC. Anna desperately does not want to cover this story but there is no way out and that is when we discover that Anna actually grew up in Blackdown.

DCI Jack Harper now works and lives in Blackdown where he misses the excitement of working in the city and still misses his wife. Jack is quietly pleased that something has finally happened in Blackdown although he is suspicious of Anna and her involvement and then Jack himself becomes a suspect.

This shows us how there are always two sides to the story . . and sometimes even more.

The narrators were fine but I am not sure that audiobooks are for me.

There is something about Alice Feeney's plots that deprive me of the pleasure of actually loving her stories. Because I am already head over heels with her writing style, the way she puts the words together, her similes and the precision by which she delivers the narrator's feelings. But her plots?!!!!

I faced the same issue with Sometimes I Lie. A tad too much complexity, one coincidence too many, a bit of complexity that snatches all sympathy away from this character or that.

I'm not the kind of reader who seeks a likeable character to root for. I don't even know what constitutes "likeable" or what is deemed likeable; it's too vague a term to judge by it. I'd rather feel the urgency of the plot, the claw marks of the story. Here it was hankered down by too many complexities that left plot holes here and there among too many coincidences and past grievances and red herrings that it became unrealistic and sometimes even redundant. I listened to the end, so I believe I liked it a bit, but I wanted to love it the way I love Feeney's writing.

As for the narrators, I recognized Stephanie Racine's voice because she also narrated Sometimes I Lie, which I also read/listened to as audio. She seemed slightly too jovial in the beginning (before the bad news hit). And although I love Richard Armitage's baritone narrations, this was just not his best work. He was disinterested for a while before he fell into the rhythm of the story.

CW: rape, animal mutilation, graphic violence.
