REVIEW - HIS & HERS (Audio)
by Alice Feeney
First of all, this was a phenomenal reading experience for me. Kudos to both Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine for giving justice to the voices of Jack and Anna, they are just the perfect fit for the characters. The tone, emotion and pacing of their narration is clearly impeccable. The story by itself is already quite riveting without a doubt but paired it with the narrators' amazing performance, you sure have a 5-star listening experience to enjoy. There was never a dull moment throughout that even the groundwork and background of each characters' story is something you will also pay close attention to. It started with a distorted voice of one of the characters, for which I initially lay blame on to a bad audio download *lol*. However, that particular element of this version was simply brilliant. I loved every minute listening to this and would have devoured it in physical copy. Definitely one of the books you should not miss this year.
Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Holy moley what a wild ride!! Just when you think you’ve figured it out, this book hits you with three more twists that’ll have you second guessing everything you’ve learned so far. The story itself was extremely interesting, suspenseful and well thought out, & I enjoyed the different perspectives that it was told in. Since so much happened in the book, I was glad that they had that final chapter in there that really explained and broke down everything.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book. The ending took me by surprise. I devoured this book in 4 days. I wanted to listen to the audiobook all night but I had to physically stop myself from staying up all night just to find out who’s the killer. I’m in such a thriller mood now from this book. I felt like I guessed who the killer would be but then it was twist after twist. It was very dark though. The audiobook had a third narrator and it was perfect. It felt so creepy and just really put me in the mood for a thriller to read at night. Amazing, Addicting, and Perfect thriller read.

I was so excited to find this on NetGalley. I had been hearing all the hype from this book and seeing it everywhere and there it was in the Audio Section! 🙌
Anna Andrews is an important BBC Newscaster in London on the 1 o’clock lunch hour broadcast. She has worked her way up from the Correspondence Desk after Cat Jones went on maternity leave and never seemed to come back. Until she does out of the blue, and Anna is pushed back to her old job.
DCI Jack Harper is an officer in Blackdown, a sleepy village, his childhood town that he has returned to and lived for the last two years after a life altering tragedy.
The sleepy little village of Blackdown is about to get lots of notoriety after a murder victim is found. Anna is sent to cover the story and Jack is the lead detective on the investigation.
They both knew the victim VERY well, and one or both of them may know more that they’re willing to tell. The thrilling story unfolds, alternating between Anna and Jack’s perspectives and keeps you on your toes the whole way through.
His & Hers was a mystery but also told a heartbreaking and horrifying story of how troubled childhoods can shape the adults of tomorrow. The events of the past are what brought about this fast paced thrilling story. There was never a dull moment and involved a lot of intricate players. Each character whether big or small was an important part of the story and made it complete and thoroughly interesting.
Usually I know who dunnit by the half way point but not this book. I was never sure who the killer was. One minute I thought it was this person, then another, then back to my original person. When I finally had an inkling as to who the killer really was I actually put that out of my mind thinking no way was that possible. But thinking back Ms. Feeney did leave some breadcrumbs for the readers to follow.

Anna was such a sad character. I just wanted to comfort her through the whole story. She came off as a strong person on the outside but she was drowning in grief and loneliness on the inside. She had been through so much in her life including times in her youth that included the murder victim and all her little horrible friends. She also had a very strong motive to off the MV.
Jack was kind of screwed up and lost. And a bit weak. But he was a nice guy. But he also had a strong motive and not a whole lot to lose.
I loathed Rachel, Torrey, and Helen. Especially Rachel who was the ring leader. The way those women were as young girls and the women they turned into was despicable. But they definitely were entertaining and brought grit to the story.
The other supporting characters, Anna’s mom, Catherine Kelly, Cat Jones, Richard (The Camerman), Priya (Jack’s partner) were all just as important and brought more pieces to the puzzle and added more bits to the story as well as shedding possible guilt on them as well.
𝐍𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Richard Armentage and Stephanie Receine did a remarkable job as Jack and Anna. It flowed so well you had no idea they were reading the lines. They really brought the story to life. And the Creepy Killer Voice gave me goosebumps!

Miss Feeney is a very talented story teller that kept me by the seat of my pants through out His & Hers.
It was just such a fast paced, interesting book with complex characters, that kept me flip flopping and guessing till the very end.
I’m ver much an Alice Feeney fan and can’t wait to check out her previous books as well as the future books to come.

Kept Me Guessing
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my first advanced audio book listen on NetGalley’s new audio book app. The book is narrated from three perspectives, his, hers and the killer’s. The murder’s voice was done in the pixelated voice scramble that was so creepy I couldn’t listen to the book at night! The author certainly had me suspecting most of the characters throughout the book and in the end I was wrong about “who had done it”. An enjoyable ride for a thriller book. 3.5 half stars rounded up to 4 because audio was so good.
This book is told from 3 different points of view. Anna who is her and the 1pm lunch time broadcaster. Jack is him and also Anna's ex husband. Then the murderer. I love how the audiobook has distinct voices for each one. Each new clue keeps you on your toes. I didn't see the ending coming.
Thank you #NetGalley for this audio version of His & Hers by Alice Feeney
This book is super tropey and soapy and I loved it! The dual POVs worked really well and the POV of the killer hinted at someone being unreliable. It was great! I love trying to guess the twists of books and while did guess some of them, there were others that did surprise me! With some small town secrets thrown in there, I was hooked! Really enjoyed this one!!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review. This review will be posted immediately on GoodReads and a shortened review can be found on my Instagram.
You guys, I love Alice Feeney, and I was so happy I got my hands on this! I ended up purchasing a finished copy and I LOVED IT. She seriously writes the best twisty back and forth suspense ever, and His & Hers is no exception. Thanks for the opportunity to read it!
I listened to this audiobook during a long drive. It is told from 3 perspectives and moves along nicely. I really liked the added touch of a different voice for the murderer.
Perspective 1: Anna (her) is a broadcaster who just her in air hosting spot. She is sent to investigate a murder in her hometown.
Perspective 2: Jack (him) is a detective assigned to the murder who happens to be Anna’s ex-husband. And was just had a tryst with the victim the night before she was found dead.
Perspective 3: The murderer!
Another great book by Alice Feeney. Full of twists that keep you guessing until the end.
I’m so excited about NetGalley doing audiobooks now and I really enjoyed this one. I’ve read a few books by this author and so far I’ve loved all of them including this one. This book will hook you from the beginning and you’ll just keep listening until it’s finished.
I wasn’t able to make the app work and was not able to listen, it is now archived. Bummer. Hopefully my library has a copy.
Anna Andrews is a presenter for the BBC News. She presents the 1:00 pm newscast. She has this position since the person who had her slot is on maternity leave. When she returns, she is pushed to work in the field. Her first assignment is to report on a murder in her hometown. To top it off she has to work with her ex-husband,Jack, on this case and she knows the victim. When more people she knows end up dead both she and her ex are considered suspects. But we know there are always more than one side to a story, this is His & Hers.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audio book and review it.
You all know how much I love a good thriller. I have really enjoyed all of the other books that Alice Feeney has written and this one was no exception.
While listening to this book, I knew for sure who was killing all of these women. Of course it's the drunk woman who forgets what happens while she is drinking. Not only is the author good at making you not know who is the killer, the killer is good at framing other people for their crimes.
There is a lot going on in this book, but it keeps you drawn in from the very beginning. It takes you back and forth in time from Anna's school days to the present. We learn about all of Anna's troubles. We also learn about Jack and his life since he and Anna split up. It's hard to tell you more without giving away too much, so you will just have to go and give it a read!
I couldn't get enough of Alice Feeney's audiobook version of His and Hers. This is a tense murder mystery told by 3 narrators: him, her, and an anonymous killer.
The story begins with a murder in a sleepy town outside London. But, one murder turns into two, and the race is on to discover how a long ago group of childhood girl friends might be connected to the present horrors.
I loved every reveal as I learned how the characters were connected to one another. I found that I didn't want to stop listening; just one more chapter!
I do have two negatives. First, a heads up: there is one scene that is especially disturbing. And secondly, the voice changer used by the anonymous killer in the audiobook was probably necessary but made me laugh every time; it disrupted the flow for me.
.
Thank you to Alice Feeney, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
A solid murder mystery told from three perspectives (the reporter, the cop, and the killer) that'll please fans of the genre. I can't say that this blew me away (and the reveal came too little, too late), but the final hour of listening was truly enjoyable.
This book was a wild ride and I truly did not guess that ending! I tried to guess the murderer throughout the whole book but I kept changing my mind with each scene. I was so engrossed in this book and was surprised at all of the twists and turns. The narration of this book was spectacular. I have tried listening to many fiction books before but I usually lose interest pretty fast and do not finish. However, the narration of this book was so great that it kept my full attention. I loved that it alternated between his and her perspectives.
His and Hers⭐️
There are two sides to every story. One of you is obviously lying.
Anna is a tv presenter and is asked to cover a murder in her hometown. Soon she isnt just covering the story but deep within it.
DCI Jack moved to the countryside to get away from the murder of everyday but when a victim comes up being someone he knew, he withholds that information so he wont be kept off the case but something isnt right about the investigation.
But then Jack is accused of murdering his sister and he needs to figure out who would benefit from him behind bars before its too late.
“Please we need to call dad!
No we cant
Why not?
Because hes the one thats done this to me.”
Dang. She draws you in and slams you into a wall, keeping your face burrowed in the book needing to figure it out.
We flip between Anna and Jack.
No is trustworthy.
Because we were told right off the batt that someone is lying.
I loved the narrators, they really brought the story to life!
Thank you to Netgally via McMillion Audio forsending me an ARC copy of His and Her byAlice Feeny. This is already available for your reading pleasure.
The narration shifts between His, Here, and another dark and mysterious narrator. As the story unfolds More details are uncovered telling the dark history that surrounds a group of girls as their past and present collide in disaster.
I absolutely loved every aspect of this book and highly recommend it!!
* I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
DCI Jack Andrews is sent to the scene where the body of a woman has been found . It turns out to be a woman he knows well. If Jack were to disclose the nature of his relationship with the victim, he knows that he will become the main suspect. He knows he has to find the real killer before anyone else, including his pretty, eager young police officer that is under his wing,
Anna Andrews has spent the last two years in her dream job as the news presenter for the BBC midday news. But that all changed when her predecessor returns to take her chair. Anna is sent out to cover a body found in Blackdown, her childhood hometown. She discovers she knows the victim. She also knows the investigating officer, DCI Jack Andrews, But she won't let that get in the way of reporting her way back into her midday presenting chair.
As the body count rises and more intriguing information is revealed, we hear the voices of Jack and Anna through alternating chapters of "His" and "Hers. " But we also hear the voice of the killer. Each time the reader thinks the mystery is solved, a new question arises causing doubt.
The readers are excellent in this audiobook. I believe they truly added to the tension and suspense of the writing,. In fact, I think I liked it better than I would if I were simply reading the book. The ending took me by such surprise that I actually thought I didn't quite hear it correctly. But I did, and it was delightful! In the end there are three side to every story - His, Hers and the truth.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to listen to my first audiobook from their new selection.
🎧 BOOK REVIEW 🎧
“There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, his and hers”
When a woman is murdered in her old hometown, Anna Andrews is sent to cover the story. DCI Jack Harper questions why she’s really there until he comes under question himself.
This audio was done in three parts. Jack Harper, Anna Andrews, and the distorted voice of the killer confusing you with every turn. I think this book was made for audio and I can’t imagine having to read the physical copy instead of hearing the brilliantly creepy killer.
This thriller did keep me guessing (which is what I’m always looking for in a thriller) and I often thought I had the end figured out until the next chapter.
I didn’t read any reviews prior and I wish I had as I might not have read the book if so. TW: sexual assault, abusive relationship, animal abuse. These things went a little far for me which is why I didn’t appreciate the book as much as I wanted to. I like dark themes but these were a lot all together.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.25
Thank you to @macmillanaudio and @netgalley for the free ALC for my review. Sorry it’s late! 🙈
Disturbingly dark and twisted - just the way I like my thrillers. Just when you think you've figured it out - guess what - you haven't! With characters you love to hate (and there are some vile ones!) and everyone a potential suspect this book is gripping and incredibly hard to put down.
The audiobook was great - the unknown narrator has their voice distorted, and it is jarring and so creepy. Many thanks to Netgalley for the ARC, I love that you do audiobooks now. They are quickly becoming my favourite medium.
