His & Hers
By Alice Feeney
Anne Andrews was married (now divorced) to Detective Chief Inspector Jack Harper.
A female body has been discovered murdered in the woods in Blackdown.
Her connection to Anna – they used to be friends at school;
Her connection to Jack – they had had sex hours before she died;
Anna Andrews is a BBC Lunchtime News presenter, and a high functioning alcoholic.
Jack Harper left London after his marriage ended in tragedy but didn’t plan to end up back in his hometown.
This account is being told from two sides His & Hers; in there is also another voice, this one filling the gaps.
His & Hers was read by two narrators Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine. Within a few minutes of starting this book, you forget the voice actors and fall head-first into this complicated thriller.
It’s a story of grooming of young girls, cruelty and blackmail. There are unanswered questions, unreliable narrative and missed clues at every turn in this book.
I predicted the ending, wrongly, five times and still was mistaken when it was revealed but wasn’t disappointed.
I would like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity of reading this copy advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for my own honest review - this book is due for release on July 28, 2020. 4.0/5.0

Let me just say right upfront...if I see the name Alice Feeney, I know I'm in for a few things that I love in a suspense thriller. Unexpected plot twists! Interestingly flawed characters! And best of all...an "unreliable narrator" who makes truth telling indistinguishable from lies! In "His&Hers" you will find all of this and much more! Told in alternating "He said, She said" chapters, you might find the truth of "who done it" in there...somewhere...but not quickly or easily!
In this my first audiobook from the new NetGalley Shelf app, "His&Hers" delivered a fun addition to Feeney's growing body of work. I honestly think it best to go into this book when you have a little bit of time to devote to listening continuity. There are many clues, red herrings, twists, and turns throughout this story. Listen carefully, dear reader...you have been warned!
In exchange for a fair and honest review, NetGalley offered me this audiobook and I thank them. I am also grateful to Alice Feeney for providing an advance audio copy of her book to me. Thank you!
***I feel compelled to mention, however, that the NG Shelf app was extremely problematic (despite much NG tech support) from installation, to download, with recommended ios updating, through ultimately many, many playback issues. I sincerely hope these audiobook platform issues are resolved sooner than later.***

My First Alice Freeney Book! It did not disappoint! This is psychological thriller with a side of mystery that is based in the UK. This book is like nothing I have every read. At first look, I thought it was like every other thriller that I had recently read. But, after only about 3 chapters, I came to realize it was much much more. If you have the chance, I HIGHLY recommend the audio version of this book. IT IS SO GREAT!
This book is based on different characters' point of view. My favorite part about this book had to be the 3rd surprise narrator! It is a little confusing at first with this 3rd narrator but STICK WITH IT, because it makes the book!
Summary: A reporter is put on a case involving her home town and a person she acquainted with in school. But as anyone who is trying to escape her past, She is heasistant to go. Come to find out, the investigator is no other than her ex husband as well.
Meet Anna, Anna has moved to a new town to escape her past. Even with an ailing mother, That in itself could not bring Anna back. But when tragedy strikes in her home town and she is assigned to report on a murder, Will she have the nerve to go back and relive all that she tried to escape?
Meet Jack: Jack left London and his wife to pursue his career. Jack now takes care of his ex wifes ailing mother,Jack is assigned a murder case, and to his surprise it happens to be with his ex wife, the reporter. Little did they know, things just don’t seem to add up on this case…. Or do they? Is the victim all too familiar? Will they be caught right in the middle for being in the wrong place at the wrong time?
The Best way to keep a secret is to never tell…...
Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for provide my this Audiobook for my honest review!
Intense and creepy thriller!
This story is told rotating through two perspectives- his and hers. Anna Andrews is a reporter who was sent to cover a murder in a small town. Jack Harper is the lead detective for this case. Both have secrets and know more about the dead woman then they are sharing. The story unfolds and keeps you guessing!
I would include a trigger warning with book as a few things happen that could be hard for some readers.
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this one. Neither the story or the audio/narrators. I will give some credit to the narrators however, if I had been reading this myself I don't think I would have finished it. The characters are unlikable. Their reactions to certain events were non existent. Events that would leave normal people shattered. There was ZERO emotion. I cannot comment on that further without spoilers, though. The ending at least was decent, and the only reason that I gave this two stars instead of one.
This was my first entry into audiobooks in general and my first audiobook from NetGalley too! Thank you @netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this book which is due out July 28th 2020! Published with @macmillan.audio and @flatiron_books
I have to admit I was a bit thrown off by the voice in the first chapter but I loved the narrator's voices going through the rest of the book and the disguised voice at the beginning of course made sense in the end. His & Hers (narrated by Richard Armitage & Stephanie Racine) starts out with a murder in Blackdown which is a small English village. It brings news reporter, Anna Andrews, out of the news room and back into the field to cover what they think is going to be a murder case and they want to be first on the scene. Detective Jack Harper isn't thrilled with her involvement covering the case, especially when he realizes he's a suspect.
I was sure I had things figured out multiple times, Alice Feeney did a great job of leading you in all directions. I had suspicions about nearly each character as the book went on. Highly recommend this audiobook that will definitely keep the listener guessing with the new details added into each chapter.
I was provided with a free copy of this audiobook from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Wow. What a thriller. Wonderfully written with turns that left me guessing until the very end.
Told from the point of view of two protagonists (one detective and one reporter, formerly married) intermingled with passages from the killer.
I am glad I listened to this book as it was all the more immersive. The narrators did a fantastic job of keeping my attention and trying to guess what was going to happen.
A sign of a great thriller for me? I still have goosebumps thinking of the ending!
I do think a warning regarding the animal abuse and some of the descriptions of the murders would have been good for me.
Wow!!! No seriously... Wow! Alice Feeney sure knows how to write an ending. I absolutely loved this audio. The way it was narrated really added to the suspense of the story.
Thank you #netgalley and #macmillanaudio for the advance copy of this book
I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook version of His &Hers by Alice Feeney. Once I listened to the first couple of chapters, I was totally compelled by the story masterfully delivered by the narrators Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine.
There are three points of view: Anna Andrews, a BBC presenter who has just lost her dream position of a news presenter and has to go back to being a reporter, her ex-husband DCI Jack Harper, and a distorted voice of a murderer who goes on a killing spree in a little village Annna and Jack grew up in. Anna is sent to cover the story of a female body/ possibly murder victim being discovered in the woods. Jack is the police officer investigating the case. As the events keep unfolding and bodies start piling up, we see more and more links to both Anna and Jack and their past. There seem to be plenty of clues in the chapters told from the murderer's point of view to keep the listener guessing, thinking they have it all figured out only to hear another clue in the following chapter that would seem to point in the direction of another suspect.
The two narrators did a wonderful job of rendering the emotions the characters were going through and made sure the secondary characters also sounded unique.
I would definitely recommend this audiobook to all lovers of psychological thrillers who enjoy a dark suspenseful read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion.
His & Hers is a psychological thriller by Alice Feeney that will keep you guessing from the start till the end and when you think you have figured out who the killer is at the very next moment you will find yourself wrong again. The writing is admirable, bit by bit revealing shocks and twists all the way through, rather than just doing it at the end. The book is full of good metaphors and quotes.
Now the plot Anna Andrews is a BBC TV presenter and Jack is a detective both are covering a murder in Blackdown. Both Anna and Jack know the victim very well and have a deep connection with her. I don’t want to reveal much as you have to figure it yourself (you can also read the synopsis in comments).
The book shifts POV between Anna and Jack and an occasional inner monologue of the killer. I am in audiobooks for quite a while and I can say the narrators have done a great job. I felt like I am in the heads of the characters.

If you like reading mystery, thriller, crime, and suspense you need to read this one or add it to your TBR list. It’s a page-turner and is definitely a good read

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC copy.

Triggers warnings: bullying, sexual abuse and animal abuse.
"There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, His & Hers. Which means someone is always lying."
Hot damn, this was good! This is one of the best twisty thrilling books I've read in a while. It kept me guessing and at the edge of my seat the entire time.
The character development is excellent and every character is unlikable, superbly broken and dysfunctional. The story unfolds through different POVs, all ridiculously unreliable and their voices will have you suspecting EVERYONE! The plot moves at a perfectly dark and creepy pace, drawing you in more and more.
Well done, Alice Feeney!
If available, try to listen to this one via audiobook, as the narrators all did an amazing job.
A huge thanks to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio and Alice Feeney for making this available via audiobook and allowing me the opportunity to give my honest and personal review.
WOW!!
I started reading this, then a few chapters in started listening to the audio book. I DEFINITELY recommend listening!
I loved the narrators. Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine sounded exactly as I’d imagined, especially Stephanie as Anna. The distorted voice threw me completely!
At several points in the story I was convinced I knew who the killer was and accused each character at least once.
I didn’t particularly like either Jack or Anna, but I’m not sure we’re meant to. In fact, each of the characters had some awful traits.
Feeney’s writing is fast paced and gripping, exactly what you want from a thriller!
The book loses a star because I didn’t like the ending. I was disappointed and wrong with my guess!
I’ll definitely be looking out for more of Alice Feeney’s work.
Thank you netgalley, Macmillan audio, Flat Iron books and Alice Feeney.
My first audiobook from NetGalley! I am thrilled that they have started offering this service. I consume two to three audiobooks per week, and this will certainly help my ability to review future titles.
Now on to the book, and a follow up on specifically the audio after.
I liked this book, although I didn't love it, for reasons I will elaborate on. I thought it was well written, very engaging, a real page turner, and had an ending that I wasn't suspecting. I loved the creepy sense of foreboding throughout, as we waited for another body to fall. What I wasn't crazy about was the drunken protagonists. It just seems too many novels in the last few years have relied on this trope, and it turned me off from fully engaging in this book. I'm looking for something fresh and new in my thrillers, and this just made it fall into the category of "been there, seen that".
The audio was fantastic! I loved that there was a male and female narrator (so important when listening so you don't get the "his and hers" mixed up :) I also thought it was brilliant to distort the voice of the killer when they were narrating. Overall a top notch job on the audio production of this one.
So excited Netgalley has started doing audiobooks because I LOVE a good audiobook and this is definitely one of them.
If I had to describe this book in one word it would be WHIPLASH
This was such a fantastic read. I’ve said how much I love unreliable narrators and this book definitely leaves you so unsure who to believe.
Very early on I guessed who our killer was. I was so sure. Then as we go on the story and twists are revealed I was so unsure.
I changed my mind on who was guilty so many times. Alice Feeney has me so confused and on the edge of my seat.
If you enjoy super suspenseful domestic thrillers where literally everyone has secrets then you will love this one.
Also I highly recommend listening to this on on audiobook as well!
The performances were great and the chapters narrated by the killer with the distorted voice gave me chills!
This book had so many twists and turns that at the end of each chapter I had a dramatic jaw drop. I was able to consume this book in 2/3 days and it was insane! I'm still processing the story and who did it but I would highly recommend this book. Feeney does an incredible job with regards to the character development, atmosphere, twists and turn, and complexity of the story.
I can't wait to see what other stories this author has and the stories she has in store for us!
I absolutely loved the voices used for this audiobook! The disguised voice is spine tingling and really adds to the creepy feel of this story. His & Hers is full of twists and turns all the way to the last chapter and it constantly kept me guessing!! Loved the audiobook and would highly recommend!
Well, I sure didn’t see that ending coming! His & Hers, my first Alice Feeney novel, took me on a dark thrill ride of disturbing twists and turns. I chose to listen to his book via NetGalley’s new audio format and was quite pleased with the experience. The book started off a little slow, but quickly picked up a frenetic pace. The story is told back and forth from two points of view; hers is Anna Andrews a BBC TV reporter, his is DCI Jack Harper, Anna’s ex-husband. To make it even more interesting there is a third point of view, the murderer whose disguised voice is creepy and unnerving.
Anna loses her broadcasting job to the original reporter, Cat Jones, who returns from maternity leave. She is sent back to her hometown of Blackdown Woods to cover the murder of a local woman who is known by both Anna and Jack. Soon more murders occur, and it is evident that Jack is under suspicion. Anna, already an alcoholic, is drinking more heavily from old hurts resurfacing. The two of them are in a race to solve the case.
Several times I thought I had it all figured out, but I was very wrong! Feeney’s master writing skills, plot, and character development made this an excellent read for me. There were some gruesome scenes in the book that may make some uncomfortable. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read/listen to this book. I look forward to more Alice Feeney books. I gave it four stars.
4.5 stars for compulsive readability (or is it listenability?)
How much can you like a character who says Mondays are their favorite day of the week?
This book has got some twists and turns and, as the story progresses (and goes back in time), there are reasons to dislike (or truly abhor) almost every character. Likewise, the author is able to cast doubt everywhere. The writing is very good, creating atmosphere and imagery while keeping the story moving at a breakneck pace. In fact, I think this is the type of book that warrants a reread. Maybe that's just me because I'm still shook and trying to decide if the ending was brilliant or maybe less so.
This is my first audiobook through netgalley, and it was a frustrating experience as the app would stop mid-section and I would often have to unlock my phone between sections to remind the app to keep going. Despite this, I recommend the audio version. The narration is absolutely superb, the type I would recommend for someone new to audiobooks.
For sensitive readers, check other reviews for possible trigger warnings.
Wow what a read! A thriller that will keep you on your toes. It's full of suspense, twists and turns, and questions of "what?", you keep asking yourself.
A reporter, Anna, takes the seat of anchorwoman Cat, (Catherine) on the major British news channel BBC, when she takes maternity leave. Anna loves her new position becoming the new anchorwoman, however Cat returns after two years putting Anna back in her reporter position and she's not happy!
A detective, Jack, is put on the case of a local murder in the town Blackdown. He discovers that he knew the murdered victim and knew her quite well. Like any crime scene, reporters start arriving and he discovers the first one there is his ex-wife, Anna.
The story goes from there. Bringing up a horrifying past that just wants to be forgotten to an unpredictable and unexpected future, and a serial killer on the loose.
It took a while to figure out who the killer was, and that was okay, because the book was about finished, only to discover I was completely wrong and my jaw dropped!
This is a five star book and I want to thank NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to give my honest opinion and honest review.
This author is absolutely brilliant! This book was written from three different point of views- his, hers, and the murderers. We loved listening to it on audiobook because the three different voices made it very easy to keep up with the storyline.
The story takes place over a few days, but never felt rushed. The author dropped tiny details throughout the book to keep you on your toes about what the truth may be behind what happened to the victims. We would think we would know who the killer was, only to be pulled in a different direction the next chapter.
The end of each chapter made us hungry for more and the end of the book blew our minds! Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a murder mystery novel.
