I want to thank Netgalley and Flatiron books for this advanced copy of His and Hers by Alice Feeney in exchange for my honest review.
Alice Feeney is one of my most favorite authors, I love her writing style and this book was just as fantastic as all her others.
There is someone killing all of Anna's friends from high school and her ex husband who is a cop is investigating it may be the killer. However, it could be several other people as well as you will see as you read.
What I love about this book is as usual the writing has a creepy feel to it which I just love ...nothing is just normal.
As you go on the voyage into this story you really don't know who the killer is
You might think you do...then change your mind several times throughout the book only to be hit with a huge twist at the end.
This was a fantastic book. I loved loved loved it ! I definitely give this 5 🌟 ⭐🌟 ⭐ 💫
Grab this one when comes out

Oh, Alice Feeney. You had me at Richard Armitage and Stephanie Rancine. Here’s my reader confession: I pick audiobooks by the narrator. There, I said it. I search and read something just for the narrator finding the best stories and authors I may not have otherwise.
A twisted, mind bending, atmospheric suspense thriller His & Hers on audiobook is a binge-worthy listen. Clear your day, afternoon, night, and don’t expect to sleep. Told in three alternating voices. ‘His’ DCI Jack Harper, a detective. ‘Hers’ Anna Andrews, a news reporter. The third is the murderer, the only one who will be telling the truth. There are connections between Anna, Jack and the victim. The twists, and turns are expertly woven by Alice Feeney, every time I thought I knew what was going to happen I was wrong. I was guessing until the very end. If you’re specifically sensitive to material containing animal cruelty or sexual abuse vet this book personally for content.
I highly recommend His & Hers on audiobook. Narrators Richard Armitage and Stephanie Rancine are both outstanding, hypnotic, unreliable. The use of the third unidentified narrator as the murderer is effective and bone chilling. It adds to the suspense.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced listen copy and the chance to review His & Hers by Alice Feeney. All opinions are my own.
4.5 stars
This Thriller was sensational!
First I devoured it! I had to keep keep listening.
The writing kept me interested.
I loved the multiple narrators as it gave more value to the story.
The ending is completely unpredictable.
And also the motive comes clear until the very end which I loved.
This is my first Alice Feeney book. And now I really want to check her backlist
Alice Fenney does it again!. A twisted tale where anyone could be the suspect. The story switched between two of the main characters, and an unknown. Each could be the one who is responsible for the murders. We follow them all as they try to determine who is at fault. Each of them leads them to the other while also doubting themselves...Could they have done it? A fast paced read, with lots of twists and turns.
This is the thriller I have been searching for this summer. I can’t find one single thing to critique about it! Anna is a newscaster for BBC and Jack is a detective in Blackdown (their hometown). They separated after the death of their daughter as they were unable to overcome their grief together. Anna is drawn home when she is asked to report on a woman who is found murdered. When she arrives, she discovers her ex-husband is the lead investigator. Both Anna and Jack know more about the victim than they are willing to let on. It soon appears that they are both implicated in more ways than one as the body count starts to pile up.
I HIGHLY recommend the audiobook version of this thriller. Gifted to me by @librofm and @netgalley from @macmillanaudio, it has 3 different narrators as the story flips back and forth between Anna, Jack and the murderer’s point of view. I loved the complexity of Anna and Jack’s characters and their back story. The plot was a total rollercoaster and Feeney is great at misleading and misdirecting the reader. The elements that really clinched this as a five star for me was the fact that I had NO clue who the killer was at the end. I thought I had it figured out five times and each time, I was wrong. The suspense is built and I ended up bingeing the last thirty percent which I never do in an audiobook. This is by far one of the best thrillers I have ever read/listened to!
There are two sides to every story, and someone isn't telling the truth.
When a murder takes place in a small countryside town, Anna, a presenter for BBC news is asked to cover it. There, she runs into her ex husband Jack, who is a detective on the case.
What Anna and Jack know that others don't, is that they're from this town. And they know the victim.
Told in the alternating perspectives of Anna, Jack, and the mysterious killer, this one had me coming up with all of the theories until the very end when suddenly all of the puzzle pieces came together. The audio was incredible; I found myself reaching to listen with every spare moment
A brilliantly intriguing and twisty mystery, with elements of horror and psychological aspects. I expect nothing less from Alice Feeney!
His and Hers was so much more than I expected. It promised a mystery, sure, but it offered a perfect blend of adult suspense and high school drama. The flash-backs, interspersed with the multiple points of view, delivered a well-paced story. Nothing was revealed too early, and no explanations were rushed.
The author made sure to leave plenty of Red Herrings throughout the novel, leaving readers to guess the motives of every character, and their intentions. It all tied up perfectly together, leaving me with a sense of satisfaction.
Feeney did a brilliant job of giving each character their own unique voice. This made reading the book in an audiobook format even better; the narrators perfectly intoned the characters' voices. That, along with the chilling atmosphere of Blackdown, ensured an unforgettable story.
A huge thanks to Netgalley and MacMillan audio for providing me with an ARC.
4.5 stars/5 stars
His & Hers is a psychological thriller by Alice Feeney that will keep you guessing from the start till the end and when you think you have figured out who the killer is at the very next moment you will find yourself wrong again. The writing is admirable, bit by bit revealing shocks and twists all the way through, rather than just doing it at the end. The book is full of good metaphors and quotes.
Now the plot Anna Andrews is a BBC TV presenter and Jack is a detective both are covering a murder in Blackdown. Both Anna and Jack know the victim very well and have a deep connection with her. I don’t want to reveal much as you have to figure it yourself.
The book shifts POV between Anna and Jack and an occasional inner monologue of the killer. I am in audiobooks for quite a while and I can say the narrators have done a great job. I felt like I am in the heads of the characters.
.
If you like reading mystery, thriller, crime, and suspense you need to read this one or add it to your TBR list. It’s a page-turner and is definitely a good read

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC copy.

Triggers warnings: bullying, sexual abuse, and animal abuse.
I got to about halfway and stopped listening.
The three different voices on the audiobook was a nice touch but the actual story wasn't for me.
I am fairly new to this world of bookish thrillers, so I am still fresh when it comes to finding clichés and common-places in this kind of story. When I read this synopsis, I was hooked. I needed it!
His & Hers tells the story of a series of murders, told by two distinct people: Anna Andrews, a newsreader, and Jack Harper, a detective. Both are connected to the murders and we know that someone is lying - but who? This story will keep you trying to guess who is telling the truth and, I assure you, will blow you away with its interesting twists and turns. Not to mention that the killer itself also tells its side of the story. How can you not be hyped about this?
The narrators made a stunning work. They brought the book to life, giving it depth and drawing us closer and closer to the story. It is impossible not to connect with Anna and Jack, and root for them. Feel their sorrows and anguishes. They became so real thanks to the wonderful job made by Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine.
I spent most of the book fairly sure who the killer was. I mean, it was so obvious! But then the story turns an even darker turn, and I was left there wondering if I could be wrong. Add it a couple of more twists and OMG-revelations and, wait for it, that last chapter will blow you away. So clever, so complex, you won’t even feel bad for blaming the wrong person the whole time.
It’s impressive how the story grows twisted and you just can’t put it down.
Give His & Hers a try, it’s an amazing book and you cannot put it down until the very last page.
Ps.: I absolutely hated Zoey and, believe me, you will too.
When I saw that Richard Armitage was narrating this book I jumped at the chance to listen to it 😀. I had heard great things about this book and ai am happy to report that they are all true. This book was brilliantly dark and twisted, just as we have come to expect from Alice Feeney. I listened to this in a day, unable to turn it off.
There are two sides to every story.. and this couldn’t be truer of His and Hers. We hear the story from both sides. Set in a small village called Blackdown. Detective Jack Harper is called to a crime scene, the body of woman found murdered. A woman that he knows well. At the same time his ex wife Anna Andrews is ousted from her news anchor job at BBC news. She is sent to the crime scene to report on the murder.. a woman that she also knows. As the story goes we find out more about Anna’s past and see that this murder maybe linked to her.
We also hear from the murderer.. a dark and creepy voice that would scare the crap out of anybody. I loved it. And the twist you will not see coming... holy cow! You need to read this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan audio for my advanced copy of this book to listen and to.
Holy twists! I did not see this one coming! His & Hers by Alice Feeney was a great summer thriller that had me guessing well into the final minutes of the audiobook.
Set in the small sleepy village of Blackdown, half swallowed by the woods, Detective Jack Harper is sent to investigate a crime scene where a woman’s body has been found. It takes him seconds to see that this is not a normal accident or a regular murder, but something more sinister.
Anna Andrews, a daytime news presenter living in London, has just lost her seat as anchor. Receiving an unavoidable demotion, she is sent back to her hometown of Blackdown to report on the recent murder. Eager to prove herself again to the news station, she’ll do just about anything to get the inside scoop. Unfortunately, the lead detective Harper assigned to the case is also her ex-husband. After a second woman’s body is discovered, Anna begins to feel less like she is reporting on the murders and more like she is in the center of something more dangerous. With twists and sickening details at every turn, this audiobook was hard to put down.
Great motive. Good characters. Excellent narration. I also loved the use of the voice disruptor. That was super disturbing! Overall His & Hers was a thrilling and exciting read. 4.5 Stars!
Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for access to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I’ll be posting reviews to Goodreads, my IG account @ediblereads, and on Amazon this week (July 26-July 31) in time with the publication. Thank you again for this opportunity!
What starts as just another assignment for each of them, the past comes crashing back to haunt them both.
Him: Called to another murder in town, shocked to see it's his conquest from last night...
Her: Losing her dream job and back to the news reporting she loathes, she's sent to report on a death in a distance village - and she happens to know the victim... and the cop investigating it.
Flashing back to the past, returning to the present. How the character's lives intertwine: what happened that broke them apart and what do they have to do with each other now? Someone is hunting these once friends and everyone must watch their back.
This book took me on an adventure, one I couldn't put down. Both narrators did an excellent job bringing me to the scene of the crime and the memories the characters held. I loved how the murderer's voice used a voice changer, it kept me guessing.
Even at the end, when I thought it was all figured out, was I shocked to learn another truth. The author did an amazing job twisting the story, molding it like clay and turning it into something perfect!
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to listen to this and give my honest opinion.
His & Hers by Alice Feeney was a wild ride of a thriller and the audio version was fantastic. Hers: Anna Andrews has lost her spot as a news presenter on the BBC when the original presenter comes back from maternity leave. She doesn't want to cover the possible murder in a small British village that she's assigned, but she doesn't tell anyone why. She has a dark history with the place, and maybe the victim. His: Jack Harper, lead investigator on the case, isn't being honest about his relationship with the victim either or how he knows the BBC reporter sent to cover the murder.
This story is told in three POVs. HIs, hers, and the killer's, although with the unreliable narrator-ness of it all, who knows if it's really three? Sweeney does an amazing job building tension and posing small questions for the reader that are answered quickly while keeping the bigger answers a mystery until the shocking end. The writing is beautiful. So many great lines about loss and grief which made me wish I had a hard copy of the book in addition to the audio. I was riveted through the whole book. There are some gruesome parts, and the ending didn't completely work for me, but I loved the ride so much it didn't really matter. I would absolutely recommend this one to any thriller fan.
In terms of the audio, the narrators were great. The sections voiced by the murderer were appropriately creepy and a little harder to listen to because the character uses something to change their voice.
His & Hers is a fast paced psychological thriller with the element of “shocking”, that will no doubt appeal to the fans of Verity!
Anna Andrews and Jack Harper were happily married, and both considered each other the loves of their lives until a terrible tragedy completely destroyed their marriage. Anna, a successful BBC news presenter turned to work, and when that did not help to ease the pain, to alcohol. Jack, a police detective decided to move out of London and back to the tiny, picturesque village from which they both came. Several brutal murders of Anna’s and Jack’s former childhood friends brought them back together in a rather peculiar (but very convenient) twist of fate. Who is the killer? You pretty much are guaranteed to suspect every single person (while they are still alive that is featured in this crazy twisted thriller Including Him & Her of course!
.
I am confident that His & Hers is compulsively readable in any form, but I STRONGLY recommend it on audio! This is a multiple narrator audiobook, and the actors have done a fantastic job! The story is structured using three POVs, that of Anna Andrews, Jack Harper, and the killer. It is worth mentioning that the killer narrates his/her parts with the help of the voice disguiser device (which I found very cool). As the story unfolds, the killer keeps mentioning certain people and events from the past, and is basically constantly throwing you for a loop. It works very well! You keep suspecting one person, and everything seems to align. Then all of a sudden, the killer mentions something else, and you are confident that it is someone different now. It just never stops. This was probably my favorite part about His & Hers, all of those little clues casually presented to you by the killer, and how they are constantly made you change your mind.
I figured out whodunnit when there was only about 40 minutes of audio left. Unfortunately, I thought it was a bit of a stretch. I understand that the author went for “shocking” (and it was), and I am all for it, except…well, it needs to be physically feasible. There were other characters in the book, who were a bit unrealistic in my opinion especially considering the fact that this was supposed to be happening in the quaint English Village. Some of the cruelty that was attributed essentially to the teenagers seemed rather over the top. In addition to that there were quite a few plot holes, and too many mistakes that such a well organized and canny serial killer should not have made. Behavior of some of the characters seemed completely irrational, and I struggled trying to understand why they did what they did. This being said, I could not stop listening…. I just wish the end was a bit more thought through, and realistic.
Triggers: sexual assault of a minor, loss of a child, substance abuse, animal cruelty, bullying, dementia
Wow!! I loved this book...The back and forth between the characters, the little secrets unraveling as the story develops...I thought I had figured out who the killer was 3/4 of the book in but I could have never known... the way everything unfolds is a big surprise. The narrators did an amazing job getting you hooked to the story...you could sense the characters feelings just by their intonation.
Thanks NetGalley, Alice Feeney and Macmillan Audio for the ARC!
This was really 4.5 stars for me. Audiobooks are often more defined by the narration than the actual story. The narration in this book was FANTASTIC! Great use of different voices that were not contrived like most other audiobooks. As for the story, the story was great also! Very twisty ... just when you think you have it all figured out and buttoned up ... NOPE! I definitely recommend this one!
Thank you to Alice Feeney, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this audiobook! This review was also posted on Goodreads.
I'm blown away by so many aspects of the reading experience here!!! First of all, I don't do audiobooks, I find them boring. This is my first audiobook that hasn't been for school (teacher here). I absolutely LOVED the listening experience of this amazing, twisty and shocking novel. The narrators did a phenomenal job painting the picture of the plot as it unfolded.
There are many sides of every story, His- told by Detective Jack Harper, Hers- told by BBC news anchor, Anna Andrews and in this case, the side of the killer- told using voice changing technology. A women is dead and Anna has come back to her hometown of Blackdown to cover the story for the news...right after she was demoted from anchor to correspondent. Jack is also from the town and is the lead detective who has a connection to both Anna and the victim. There's a deep and disturbing past in this town as women start to drop like flies, we see that they all went to high school with Anna and Jack and had some kind of connection to each other. Were they just a bunch of typical mean girls or part of something bigger and much more sinister?
This novel is the thriller of the year for me! I had to adapt to listening to the audio as opposed to reading but it ended up being well worth it. Feeney is a master story teller who isn't afraid to cover uncomfortable topics. Put this at the top of your TBR! My top pick of 2020 right here for thrillers.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and Alice Feeney for the audio ARC in exchange for my honest review*
His and Hers is the first novel I've read by psychological thriller author Alice Feeney. The novel opens with Anna Andrews, who has been a BBC News presenter for the past two years, covering for Cat Jones, who was on extended maternity leave. Anna's day starts badly, from her hangover to her finding out that the following day, Cat is returning to the presenter chair and that Anna's been demoted back to being an investigative reporter. And to get that investigative reporting off to a start, she's being given the assignment to investigate what may be a murder- the body of a beautiful blonde woman has been found in the woods near Blackdown, a village filled with painful memories for Anna and where her mother still lives. Anna's story alternates with that of Detective Inspector Jack Harper, who lives in Blackdown and is charged with investigating the death. That sure gets complicated, since Jack was having a secret affair with the victim. The twisted threads of these two storylines make for a read that keeps you engaged and guessing as the body count rises and the links between Anna and Jack are clarified. Who is killing women in Blackdown and why? Feeney keeps the reader guessing until the very end.
The audiobook, narrated by Stephanie Racine and the sonorous Richard Armitage, enhanced my reading experience, effectively bumping the novel from 3.5 to 4 stars for me.
CW: rape, sex trafficking, child death, domestic abuse, murder
I received an audio review copy of this book from Macmillan Audio in exchange for an honest review.
I love unreliable narrators. The little promo blurb about the title suggests you can't really trust the story being told. There are two POVs: His (Jack) & Hers (Anna). He is investigating the murder of his mistress. She is reporting on the murder of a friend from high school.
The book starts off with a little background information on Anna. She's worked as a journalist reporting the news for years. Started on the bottom and rose up to her dream job on air until the person she was filling in for came back from maternity leave after two years. Now she is demoted to a correspondent and is sent to report on a murder in a town over.
Jack is Anna's ex living each day with no hopes for the future. He just works, and helps take care of his niece. His recent fling ended up murdered and he's called in to do the investigation. Tensions rise when Anna shows up and information gets leaked.
Both of them can be placed at the scene of the crime and seem guilty, but as suggested, there is more to the story.
I loved trying to guess what was going on and I loved not seeing the twists this author skillfully set up. In the audiobook there is a third narrator, the murder using a voice distorter to tell parts of their story confusing the reader on gender and agenda. I don't want to say anything more but if you are a fan of Psychological Thrillers then this one definitely won't disappoint.
