I actually really enjoyed this one! An ending I totally didn't see coming. There were quite a few jaw dropping moments! I highly recommend this book in audio, because the mystery killer's chapters are really creepy.
Narrators Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine were perfect for their characters. I really enjoyed their narrations.
I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
His & Hers is a twisty complex thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. I didn’t know who to trust throughout and found everyone had a possible motive. No one is really like able, but they’re believable albeit untrustworthy characters.
His & Hers is dark. There are trigger warnings for rape, animal cruelty, and just about anything else you can think of. It alternates between brutal murder and a horrific childhood.
I enjoyed having 3 narrators in the audiobook. The narration by the killer with a disguised voice was creepy and definitely added to the storyline.
Special thanks to Macmillan audio and Netgalley for this ALC.
BOOK REVIEW:
Title: His & Hers
Author: Alice Feeney
Publisher: Flatiron Books
Pub. Date: (US) 7-28-20
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Thank you so much to @dziurka27 for my giveaway copy of this book before the US publication date as well as thanks to the folks at Macmillan Audio for my Netgalley advanced audio version.
I have heard this all over Bookstagram, but I have to say that I agree this book is really cool in the audio version. I read at night but enjoy listening during the day. There are three voices in the book: his, hers, and the murderer. The voice of the murderer uses a voice distorter so you have no idea who it is and it sounds so creepy!
I absolutely loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. There are lots of twists and turns because the author doles out information a little bit at a time, and it leaves you constantly surprised with more “aha moments.” It also keeps your head spinning trying to figure out what direction it is going in and who the killer is. You think you know a character, but then you really don’t! About an hour before I finished it, I came up with five different guesses of the ending, and I was wrong about all of them. You won’t know who to trust in this book – beware and trust no one.
This book will not disappoint and I think it will be one of the best thrillers of the year. It also leaves you wondering if you ever really and truly know someone and who is keeping secrets from you . . .

Shes back!!!! Omg I loved this book!!! Thanks so much Macmillan Audio for providing this early copy. I was worried I would have to wait and listen. I remember reading Simetimes I Lie and being so blown away. I’m jumping for joy.
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a crazy mysterious story! This was my second book by AF, and I really enjoyed her other one.
This was an audiobook and the narration was fantastic. Some of the best I’ve heard.
Nothing predictable about this one. It surprises at every turn. The narrative develops and unwinds unexpectedly. You won't be able to put the book down. It I highly recommend it.
Thank you NETGALLEY and the publisher for this audiobook ARC, in exchange for my honest review. ♥️
Make HIS & HERS yours!
HIS & HERS is fast-paced and suspenseful and impossible to put down. I listened to Alice Feeney's two earlier books and this book was definitely my favorite title.
I especially liked the book because it was told from the perspectives of three narrators......his, hers and the truth. All of the narrators did an outstanding job. There is a serial killer on the loose --- and author Alice Feeney challenges us to identify who that killer is. Everyone is a suspect and everyone has motives.
I always enjoy books with well-developed/compelling characters and endings that are impossible to guess....and HIS & HERS is that kind of book! I was sure that I knew what was going on until the very end, and I was wrong!! This book featured many twists and turns and its ending was brilliant.
The book did not earn 5 stars from me because I felt that the story could have been successfully told without including certain details about animal cruelty and sexual assault.
Overall, this book was a terrific read and very highly recommended.
His & Hers by Alice Feeney is such an incredible dark and gritty murder mystery.
Yours & Mine
Ours & Theirs
His & Hers
Which ALWAYS means someone is lying.
Anna & Jack are pretty miserable characters with pretty messed up lives but that only enhances the story. I don’t want to say much as I think you should go in completely blind as I did and enjoy this wild ride. If you’ve never listened to audiobooks or you’re an avid audiobook listener like me you will truly enjoy this audiobook. The narrations is great as well as the flow of this book. I highly recommend this format. This is the perfect audiobook. Multiple narrators. Everyone has motive and everyone is a suspect.
This book will have you up into the middle of the night with heart palpitations and everything.
Multiple trigger warnings: sexual assault, animal cruelty, bullying and grooming.
If you like unreliable, unlikeable narrators, small town with secrets and surrounded by the creepy woods this book is for you!!!
A special thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review. This book is set to publish July 28, 2020. Definitely put on your radar as this is going to be a highly talked about summer thriller! You won’t want to miss it!
If you're looking for a murder mystery/thriller that will keep you guessing until the final chapter this is the book for you. Told through three perspectives, his, her's, and the killer's, you never know what to actually believe. That fact made me want to keep going, and hear more. At times I thought I had figured it all out to just be confused again by the next chapter. I can honestly say I never saw that ending coming. As the final chapter began to play I couldn't help but exclaim "WHAT?" as the conclusion was revealed. This story does deal with a lot of heavy topics besides the obvious murder including; death of a child, alcoholism, drug use, sexual assault, mental manipulation, and animal cruelty, so be warned if any of those subjects are a no go for you.
The choice to use two different narrators was extremely effective, and the third distorted voice of the killer was excellent. At times that voice sounds female, and at other times sounds male so it adds to the confusion of who exactly this culprit could be. I would highly recommend picking up the audiobook format of this title. I believe I would not have enjoyed the story as much without listening to it. The narrators truly brought this story to life.
What a twisty story and an amazing audio performance! The narrators are fantastic, including a mysterious third voice revealed at the end.
I was all over the place trying to figure out who the murderer was and why. Even when I thought it was revealed and all but done, there was another twist! There are so many red herrings that will confuse you and have you changing your mind again and again. Everyone in the story has a motive, but who should you believe? The ending was great and answers all of your questions.
I listened to this as an audiobook and it was very well done. It was a good choice for this format since it has clear chapters that alternate between the two main characters (his and hers) and the killer. The narrators do excellent jobs reading their respective chapters, while the killer’s are a bit grating and less clear.
The plot, however, is tangled, with a lot of flashbacks. Information is parceled out sparingly and, perhaps, slightly skewed. While I am a fan of unreliable narrators, twisted storylines and clever authors, this time I feel like the author kept changing who the killer was going to be and when the book was finished, went back and wrote the killer’s chapters. I feel like she cheated.
My copy of this audiobook was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review it.
I'm so glad I listened to this audiobook. I think it would have been a different experience reading the book myself. Told in the alternating voices of Anna and Jack (and the creepy, altered voice of the killer), the narration by Stephanie Racine and Richard Armitage was excellent. They really brought this well-crafted story to life. Full of mystery and suspense, it kept me at the edge of my seat and I just did not want to stop listening. Every time I thought I had things figured out, there was a new twist that had me changing my mind. And the twist at the very end really blew my mind and proved me wrong again. This is a fantastic thriller and one I definitely recommend in audiobook format.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the review copy.
Thanks to NetGalley and Flatiron Books for the digital review copy and the Advance Listening Copy of this one.
Content Warnings: (whew, so many!) Rape, Grooming, Sexual Assault (all involving minors), Drugs, PTSD, Weird not exactly consensual stuff also involving minors. There are probably more.
When a woman is murdered in the town where she grew up, journalist Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case, especially since she knew the victim, and her ex-husband is the detective on the case, but with the job she loves in jeopardy to a rival newscaster, she dives in headfirst and brings up a slew of old memories. When the clues point to the possibility that she or those close to her may be picking off her old friends one by one, things get even more dicey.
I struggled with this book. I really did. It’s well crafted. The alternating perspectives keep the reader invested in the story. Several times, I thought I’d just listen to one more chapter and ended up listening to several. The narration is excellent. I picked this book up because of Richard Armitage, and he didn’t disappoint, but Stephanie Racine also did an excellent job, and I loved the choice of dual narration for this book. I didn’t figure it out, so that always makes for more a more entertaining thriller for me. I appreciated that it wasn’t one of those that made a big reveal in the third act without providing all the puzzle pieces in the first two acts. Once you discover the ending, it all makes sense, and that’s more than I can say for most thrillers.
Now for the bad. I couldn’t get passed the trigger warnings. These elements ruined this book for me. Not to say it’s not worth reading at all, but you must be able to get passed these things. Some of these elements are why I am not a true crime fan, either, but if that is your jam, you will probably enjoy this book. Rarely can I justify sexual assault troupes in a book. There are instances where it is essential for story/character development, and you could definitely make the case for both here, but I wasn’t convinced. Also insensitivity after the fact really put me off on one of the characters.
If you are into the subgenre of rape/revenge horror, definitely check this book out, as I think if they made it into a film, that’s the category it would fall under. That may be spoiler(ish) but if you don’t want me to spoil the “plot-twist” of rape, find something else to put in your story.
I’m not telling you not to read this book, by any means, it’s well crafted, but I feel that you should know what you’re walking into. It’s out next week if it sounds up your alley, and I really would recommend to true crime/ murder mysteries with a much sharper edge.
I hadn't read (or listened to) such an absorbing thriller in a long time. His & Hers came at the exact right time, a muggy heatwave in July when my boiling brain could barely focus on anything else. It's super compelling and kept me right on the edge of my seat, unable to stop listening (my mother was particularly annoyed because I sat with my headphones on all day and didn't talk to her, being in quarantine with family is weird).
The set up is fun. There are two sides to every story and His & Hers tells them both as it unravels some gruesome murders in sleepy Blackdown, a quaint English village. Our narrators are Anna, a BBC news correspondent who loses her cushy lead newscaster role when the woman she was subbing for comes back from double maternity leaves, and Jack, a head detective in Blackdown who we quickly learn is Anna's ex-husband. We also hear from the mysterious killer in a mechanically altered (and supremely creepy) voice throughout. Both Anna and Jack could be equally guilty and equally innocent. Evidence seems to be piling up against one or both of them and Feeney has you coming up with countless theories, literally keeping the reveals coming until the last moment. You may think you know who the killer is but trust me, you will only be partially right by the end.
The narration was superb. Stephanie Rancine and Richard Armitage give such compassion to their characters that you truly want to believe they are both innocent and yet, there is something super creepy and false for both Anna and Jack under it all. The killer's voice is mechanically altered and cleverly switches between Rancine and Armitage so as to not give away any clues to the killer. The twists of His & Hers gave me such thrills and GASP worthy moments that almost feel illuminated in audiobook format. It's like ghost stories around the fire... there is something about not being able to sneak your eyes over to the next page that keep you so riveted and dependent on every word. This was the perfect mindless and yet captivating read for any hot summer day. For thriller lovers, it will cure any reading slumps and keep you hyper-engaged for hours.
I gave this book 4 stars out of 5. I borrowed the audio version of this book. I have to say that if I had read the book I might not have finished it. As always with a mystery I find it a bit difficult to review without spoilers.
I found Her sections to be boring, long and I did not really care for her. I enjoyed His sections, one because of the narrator and two because they were more interesting and a little funny "what would have been I'm sure a manly scream".
The plot was good. This book actually had twists that I did not see coming (which is always nice) and a good ending. I went back and forth on who I thought the killer was and I really like that.
This book told from three different perspectives using three different voices was excellent. The audio was brilliantly done and the book was fantastic. Small twists and turns through out kept me listening long after I normally would have. The ending was SHOCKING! I thought I had it all figured out, but not even close. Excellent audio performance and excellent book! Definitely a must read thriller for 2020.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen and review this book.
I listened to this as an audio book and enjoyed the alternating character voices of Anna, Jack and, particularly, the murderer narrated brilliantly by Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine.
A murder in the quiet village of Blackdown is the setting for this mystery. Divorced couple Anna, journalist, and Jack, DCI, are coincidentally sent to cover this case at the village they grew up in. Revenge appears to be the main theme running through 'His & Hers' and I struggled to like any of the characters. The plot is clever and I did not guess the identity of the killer. Suspicion falls on a number of characters, particularly as we learn more of the back story to Anna's life. There were parts I found to be rather implausible, but I still thoroughly enjoyed trying to solve the puzzle.
Thank you to Alice Feeney, Net Galley and McMillan Audio for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The two principle narrators of Alice Feeney's latest, His & Hers were fabulous. Less fabulous was the creepy altered killer voice. It was so muddled it was difficult to discern what was being said. I'm not sure whether it was just a glitch in the Netgalley shelf app or something else, but at times the "His" chapters" seemed to be mixed at a lower volume which would lead to a jarring loudness as the her chapters came back on.
The novel itself was a pretty straight forward psychological thriller. Good twists and turns but not very likable characters.
Thank you to Netgalley for an audio ARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion. The latest by Alice Feeney does not disappoint. Told from three perspectives: Anna, Jack, and THE KILLER. Anna and Jack have a past but have since gone their separate ways. Oddly, they are both called into work on a murder case. Jack is a detective, while Anna is a news investigator. Soon, there is more than one murder. The audio version plays quite well for this plot. The killer's voice is distorted and will honestly make you jump every time you hear it. I love stories that give you both sides, so getting three sides to this thriller was well played. A great read that will keep you on the edge until the chilly ending.
This was my first ever audiobook and what a belter to get me started…. The narrators, Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine were brilliant. The story was told from three POVs, him, her and the killer and what a bloody creepy voice, sent chills down my spine!!!
DCI Jack Harper is the SIO on a brutal murder, however when he attends at the scene, he is shocked, he knows the dead woman “intimately”! Anna Andrews is a lunchtime news TV presenter for BBC and an old friend of the dead woman…… this book was so intricately woven, your head will be spinning, just when you think you have a handle on what’s going on and whodunit…. You are thrown again and again and again…. and what an explosive reveal, I’m still reeling from it! Highly recommend it and if you can get the audio version, I reckon the voices did it justice in bringing the story to life.
I wasn't a fan of Alice Feeney's debut thriller Sometimes I Lie, in fact I kind of bashed it. So going into this book I was hopeful but didn't really have high expectations. That said, I really enjoyed my reading experience.
At the very beginning of the book I was only curious about how it would develop, but as the story progressed I found myself being more and more invested in it. I appreciated that the author presented a cast of characters that all seemed more or less suspicious and so the reader was given the opportunity to look for clues themselves and create their own theories. I love when thrillers do that as it allows me to be actually engaged in the story rather than just be a spectator.
I read quite a lot of books from thriller/mystery genre so usually I can foresee and guess the plot-twists pretty easily. And I did guess some of the reveals in this book too, but the big reveal about who the killer was, that totally took me by surprise. At first I was really confused and almost appalled that none of my theories about it were correct (mind you, that rarely happens😂). But then I started recalling more and more instances that pointed towards this person. And that's another writing tool I love - when a reveal happens that shocks you and yet when you look back at the story, the clues are all there.
I listened to this book as an audiobook and I liked how it was done, though I don't think in this case either audio or physical format makes a big difference when it comes to reading experience. A couple things that were a problem for me was that I had to manually start every single chapter or it would skip one chapter ahead and the audiobook kept pausing if my phone was locked. These issues are probably a result of using the new NetGalley Shelf app and I hope they will be fixed in the future.
Overall this was definitely a successful second attempt at Alice Feeney's books and I strongly recommend this thriller!
