I’m not an avid listener of audio book fiction, but I’ve read good reviews about this book and as net galley approved my request for the audio book version I’ve decided to give it a try. The story is really good found the audio book very engaging. Probably because the narrator was able to transport the listener to the story. Highly recommend.

His & Hers was full of obvious plots and nothing shocked me. The book goes on in details and descriptions about nothing which is one of my personal pet peeves. The characters were a little dumb for people who were a news reporter and detective. There were several situation were the author could go with many creative scenarios and she didn’t do anything just dumb decisions. The narrators did do a good job but unfortunately that is the only positive thing about this book. Thank you for the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This was a startling read. This mystery is told in first person from three points of view including the murderer’s. Trigger warnings for scenes of bullying and assault. It has twists and detours which do not let up. Perfect for those who enjoy hard-hitting detective stories told in a nontraditional way. I listened to the published audiobook of this title, occasionally reading along with parts of an e-galley.

Thanks for the publisher and NetGalley for access to the audiobook. My reviews and ratings are my own.

The ultimate story where nothing is as it seems, His & Hers follows reporter Anna Andrews, and DCI Jack Harper, as they investigate the murder of a young woman. Anna has recently had her dream job pulled from under her when she’s sent on an assignment back to her hometown of Blackdown. When she arrives she discovers that not only is her ex-husband, Jack Harper the detective on the case, but the deceased is someone they have in common, someone Anna never expected to see again. Both Anna and Jack know more than they’re letting on as they try to find the killer before it’s too late.

Told in alternating perspectives, the narration switches between Jack (His), Anna (Hers), and the voice of the killer. I had a hard time getting into the story, but once I did, I was hooked. It took me about 50 pages to get to that point. I ended up picking it up and putting it down over the series of a few weeks before I got to that point. I did not remotely predict the ending. The last ten pages truly threw me for a loop. I had predictions on what the twist would be, but I was completely wrong.

Thank you to Flatiron Books and Netgalley for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest feedback. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed the narrator of this audio it really gave a little something extra to this magnificent read that i reallt enjoyed.
The novel is well written and has a lot of excellent descriptions and metaphors of what it’s like inside His and Her heads. The plot is good and you think you have the truth sorted and then you realise you so haven’t as both perspectives are contradictory. It has more twists than a corkscrew and at times it’s so dark you can barely see a hand in front of your face. It’s mysterious, tense, creepy and spooky. The setting especially of Blackdown Woods adds an extra dimension of atmosphere as even the most benign woods at night can feel scary. There are revelations and shocking events to keep you wanting to read on and on. Although I did work out the big reveal it in no way spoils the enjoyment.

First off, the narration of this book was excellent. The narrators did a wonderful job of conveying the characters and their actions/ reactions to the events that were pulling them into the killer's circle. The voice of the "killer" was digitized to conceal any similarities to the HIS & HER voices. This added another layer to the story, bringing a dark, creepy factor into what looked like a straight forward murder investigation to start but turned into anything but.

The HIS & HERS of the title are Anna & Jack. Anna, a news journalist at a point in her life where she's very unhappy with the choices she made to further her career. Jack, a police detective at the point in his life where his choices are coming back to haunt him...big time. Turns out, at one point in their lives, these two were married but divorced due to Anna's devotion to her job first, marriage second. These two must now work together to investigate a series of murders of women that both Anna and Jack have had prior relationships with. The story unwinds as the readers see his side, her side, and the side that counts....the killer's.

An excellent book that was made even better by the narrators excellent reading. Recommend to anyone who loves a good, twisty murder mystery with lots of thrill thrown in.

Boy this book was a ride! I don’t usually read thrillers, but this one did so much right it will definitely be one of my favorites. My main complaint with thrillers is usually once you’ve read a couple, you’ve read them all. This book did a great job making the main characters have their secrets, but since we all know it’s never one of the obvious choices, she also was excellent at making nearly every side character seem suspicious and like they could fit the murderer part. And by the end I’m sure most people will be surprised if not by the murderer, at least by their motives. The audiobook was really well done, having the voice changer for the “murderer” chapters was a nice touch. I will say the violence was a little gratuitous for my tastes, but it could just be because I don’t read many thrillers.

Amazing audio book, the storyline is fascinating! How your past can affect and change your future with such dramatic affects! Secrets that don’t stay secret! Along with a profession that can adjust your judgement and how you see things - or don’t.
I really liked the his and hers side of the story as voiced by them, also the creepy side of the killer!
I did think I knew who was the killer til the end, however with a huge change of events the game change - unusual edge to an already amazing storyline!

The story is narrated from three alternating perspectives:
His- Jack, a divorced police officer who’s moved out to the country to get away after his marriage breaks up, is actually pleased when a body is discovered in the woods and breaks up the monotony of small town policing, until that is he discovers who the body is.

Hers- Anna, a tv news reporter and functioning alcoholic is sent, against her wishes, to cover the story of the body in the woods. But Anna has a history with this small town and she finds that once she’s there it’s pretty hard to leave.

And the killers perspective. I changed my mind so many times as to who I thought this was, I was so suspicious of everyone!

This book is seriously dark and twisted and at a few points a very uncomfortable read. But it’s also edge of your seat gripping and full of screwed up, complex characters that kept me hooked the whole way through.

The narration was excellent, the distortion to the killers voice added an extra creepy vibe and I thought both the narrators of Jack and Anna’s parts were excellent.

A definite recommend for those thriller lovers who like their stories extra dark and twisty!

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC (audio version) of this book! You get to hear the story from Jack, Anna , and the killer. I am usually very good at guessing who the killer is and I really thought I had it figured out but was SO wrong. I highly recommend the audio version as they picked very good characters/ voices. The killer's voice was distorted and very chilling which I loved! If you love a good who done it thriller, you don’t need to miss this one!

A new twisting rollercoaster ride from Alice Feeney will keep you guessing until the very end.

When you think you know - loopdy loop. Have the proof dissected in your mind - you are hanging upside down for seconds.

A definite for those who love thrillers or Feeney.

5/5

Thank you, NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book! I actually listened to the audio and oh boy, what a surprising present. This was a very wild ride.  I actually had this in audiobook format and I'm sure that it contributed to my initial enjoyment because Richard Armitage is one of the narrators.  Seriously, that man could read me a chemistry textbook and I would be enthralled.  I'm being honest; the characters of Anna and Jack annoyed me from beginning to end.  They were essentially male and female versions of each other and they were both disgusting human beings.  That being said, they were central to the story and as it continued it just got crazier and more interesting.  If you enjoy a good 'whodunit' type of thriller, then you need to read His & Hers: A Novel by Alice Feeney.

This book kept me guessing! I listened to the Audible version of this and the voice of the "killer" was awesome. I loved it. I have no idea who it was, you think you know, but then a twist and that theory is out the window. Is it terrible that I love the killer and how it ended to benefit them? I would call this book a fun, twisty, ride. Keep guessing! You'll never figure it out.

Wow, this was a great story. As you go through the book, hearing from his side, her side and the killer's side, you may think you know who did it (I did about 5 times) but you likely will be wrong. This is what a thriller/mystery should be and one if my favorite for the year so far. .

I'm in the minority and honestly not super thrilled to have consumed this one at all. The 2 stars represent my appreciation for the suspense writing and the amazing narration on the audiobook but it ends there.

Early on I thought this could easily be 4-5⭐ but then as more of the backstory was revealed it dumped to 1-2⭐. The author's choice as to what major event will shape the backstory of this thriller was WAY too horrific and, frankly, unnecessary to affectuate a believable narrative. I can appreciate the writing and skill at keeping the killer elusive and I understand why dark thriller readers could promote this because of the twists and turns.

But, there's just no way I'd recommend this book knowing one of the most horrific (and criminal) things that could happen to a young girl is described in this book. And, not just that it's in the story, but that, in the end, the most horrific aspects of it became nothing more than salacious shock value, disconnected from the killer's motivation. This one was (obviously) not for me.

If you are looking for a suspenseful listen, look no further!

Anna is asked to cover a murder in her home town--unfortunately the victim is a childhood friend. As Anna is drawn deeper in--so is the reader (or listener)!

This is my first Alice Feeney book, and I look forward to reading more!

This book was a wild ride!! I really enjoyed the narrators, and particularly the parts read with a voice modulator. The mystery was intriguing, and I didn’t guess the perpetrator correctly. I love a twisted mystery that surprises me. This was a very engaging and well-written thriller!

Thank you for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook His & Hers by Alice Feeney. While I am not usually a fan of listening to a book over reading the words because it’s hard for me to focus well enough to maintain the plot line, the narration in this story kept me engaged from start to finish!! It was shocking and twisty and kept me guessing whodunit all the way until the last syllable!!
