A sad story based on true facts. It is so horrifying and made me cry over and over again. It is just so unbelievable that there could be so much evil in people. Why was this allowed to happen? How could a person do such unspeakable things to innocent children with no remorse at all. Truly a product of the devil and should suffer eternally for his sins.

Surviving the Angel of Death is a short true story about twins name Eva and Miriam Mozes and their lives surviving in Auschwitz.

Eva and Miriam were born in Romania to an average class family and were loved by everyone. When the war started most of the twin's family fled to Palestine to escape the rumored persecution of Jews. Their mother refused to move, essentially signing their own death certificates. Things in Romania were getting bad and eventually they were all transported to Auschwitz and the girls end up under the care of Dr. Josef Mengele.

This was a heartbreaking story of survival. The author talks about her and her sister and everything they haaad to endure, including illness, starvation, and being experimented on by NAzis.

All I wanted to do was save and hug these two girls the whole time I was reading it.

Such a wonderful and touching book about the Holocaust. I was looking forward to get more information about the Holocaust after history class and this book was one of the most popular ones out there.

this was such a harrowing read, at times I had to put the book down. the fact that people did these things to actual humans disgusts me to my core. how could someone care so little about another human to kill then and torture them? if you're looking for a book about the holocaust to read this is definitely one, but just be prepared it's horrifying.

Difficult to write a review on this book. The story is harrowing but shows the great strength capable of the human spirit. This should be taught as part of historical studies.

This book was great in such a horrific way. It is not the first book I've read written by someone about their survival through the holocaust, however, it is the first book I've read about someone who survived Mengele's twin experiments. While I had heard about Eva and Miriam, reading about it from Eva's perspective was really interesting. The things they somehow survived through were so terrible, and sometimes I think we forget that these things happened so recently, within the last hundred years. Eva was alive until 2019. Elie Weisel was alive until 2016.
This book was moving and terrifying. I think everyone should read it, and others like it. I think it's important to understand the past, because as the saying goes, "those who don't remember the past are doomed to relive it". I am thankful that Eva put her and her sister's story into words for the rest of us to read.

It's so incredibly important for people to seek out true accounts from Holocaust survivors, rather than strictly read fictional stories that tend to romanticize this horrific time in history. With the number of survivors decreasing, the rise of global antisemitism and Holocaust denial alike, stories like Eva's must be heard and shared.

Eva's voice shines through in her account, and I couldn't tear my eyes away once I started reading. I admire the strength, resilience, courage, heart and humour that she has expressed throughout the book. Her dedication to sharing her story and commitment to Holocaust awareness is so admirable and incredible, and her willingness to forgive in order to unburden herself and gain a personal sense of freedom was shocking and beautiful.

These narratives are vital to really understand the atrocities Jews went through in this time and place, and Eva's account is a fantastic one to delve into and learn from.

I absolutely adore Eva Mozes Kor and her story, and her forgiveness. Its such a strength and should be taught in all classrooms. Already bought several copies for my classroom bookcase!

The story was heartbreaking but written so well. We should never forget!! I am so glad I read this book and recommend it to anyone who loves books about history and WWII.

This was a very sad but also very beautifully written story that meant a lot to me. If you enjoy very admirable characters that will develop and grow throughout the plot, you would love this novel.

This book is absolutely amazing. Eva embodies not only the strength of the human spirit but also the power of forgiveness. After being sent to Auschwitz, Eva and her sister, Miriam, were selected to be experimented on by Dr. Mengele. After getting sick and nearly dying, Eva managed to not only survive but also thrive. She eventually moved to Israel where she met her husband and followed him to the United States. This book is beautifully written and is different from many other Holocaust memoirs in its message of unwavering forgiveness towards those who tried to destroy her.

I feel like I’ve already read this book under a different title, and whilst I admire the strength of these, these women have as though this is a narrative already told.

It’s not a book to be taken lately lightly. It’s stark, gritty and bleak but, the hope and bravery shine through! It makes our first world and 21st-century problems seem insignificant.

We could learn a lot from the survivors! However, it makes me sad that they had to go through this in the first place. It shows us the spectrum of humanity. We can go from bravery, kindness, to a Stoic attitude in the face of adversity, fo, friendship and finally unjustifiable cruelty and falling into the trap of believing biased opinions with no objective justification..

I’ve known of the Mozes twins for years so I was thrilled to be able to read this book.

Life in Nazi Germany was horrible. And I hope we never forget. What Dr Mengele did is hardly imaginable and that he escaped like the little coward they all were is infuriating.

Eva Mozes Kor was a remarkable woman and that she lived to tell her and her sisters story shows that back then people were a different breed. Stronger. More resilient.

Let us hope something like this will never happen again.

This is the story of a young woman called Eva & her twin Miriam, who survived Auschwitz and the infamous Dr Mengele. Their survival is primarily down to the fact that they were twins, and thus separated from the majority to participate in Mengele's experiments.
The book tells the story from Eva's perspective – a young girl who survives through sheer determination, using her initiative, showing resilience and making decisions based on her dream to walk out of the camp alive, with Miriam at her side.

Upon leaving Auschwitz, and having lost the rest of her family, the twins eventually moved to Palestine/Israel to stay with an uncle but Eva struggled to settle. It was only after meeting another survivor, marrying & moving to the USA that she was finally able to feel as though she belonged again.

Many books have been written about the Jewish experiences during WW2, but there isn't much from Mengele twins, either because they did not survive or they were unwilling to recount their experiences. The book is not as detailed as I had hoped, but ultimately this is what Eva wishes to share with the world and we must respect that. Unfortunately Eva has not been able to discover what injections she was given, what experiments were carried out on her, but the fact that she defied the odds to survive & has recorded her story is something to be grateful for.

Non fiction about the Holocaust while an important read are hard for me to read, mainly because if my family hadn't left Europe when they did I either wouldn't be here or I would be reading about their strugglers in the pages of these same books. We always think that these events can't affect. But they can especially if we don't learn from history.

Remarkable!
In this subsequent edition of her memoir of the same name, Eva tells her story of life before (on the family farm), during, and after (including an attempt to go home again) her incarceration at the camp, the things that were done there from the perspective of her ten-year-old self, and more. While it is her story and has similarities to those of others who suffered in the camps, this one goes farther. It also resonates with the life stories of others who have suffered in genocides and persecutions including today.
Today's young people and others need to hear her story and learn so that they can recognize the signs and learn to be outspoken against horrors (think Northern Ireland, North American Indigenous, Rwanda, Syria, and others). Eva also established CANDLES is an acronym for Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors in 1984 in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Well this ripped my heart into little pieces. The trauma people went through during the holocaust was horrific and disgusting and so so vile. i feel so privileged to be here today and able to read their memoirs. This was another incredible true story about accounts of experiences during auschwitz. horrific yet so incredibly important to read.

A heartbreaking story, but an important one, as the Holocaust is something that should never be forgotten. I've heard so much about Mengele, but I've read little about it, and none was from anyone with firsthand experience. He and his experiments was a smaller portion of the book that the summary led me to believe, however.

This is a heartbreaking but well written story, the events of the holocaust are terrible. Reading stories, from the people who lived through it is amazing. To live through and be able to tell your story and educate people about all of the horrors of something so terrible, and heartbreaking is truly a blessing.

This book is really thought provoking, it was good to know what happened to them once they was liberated. And how Eva put into action about what she survived so people and young children can understand what they went through.
