Thanks to Wild Rose Press and NetGalley for an advanced copy of The Exist Strategy.
I loved all of the drama in The Exit Strategy! I liked how Lainey Cameron wrote from her own experiences and turned it into a great book. It has a little bit of everything - friendship, marriage, careers and strong females!
The premise of this book was really promising but it felt short in execution at times. The developing friendship between the two main characters was the biggest strength of the story; it was nice to see them lifting up each other as the story unfolded. The overall themes of women's strength and the influence of the #metoo movement were nice touches as well, that were interesting in a book about corporate America.
The plot about their mutual ex, however, was less strong and became pretty unbelievable by the end. I also struggled a bit with the pacing of the book. There is a lot going on the story but there were moments that the story's pace slowed down too much and I began to lose interest. This was particularly the case in the beginning of the book, before the ex-husband/fiance's drama really kicked in.
I can definitely see how Lainey based this story on her own experiences in corporate America (though hopefully nothing nearly as bad happened to her!) but I think the book struggles a bit with trying to include too much into one story. Overall, it was an enjoyable read with a satisfying ending.
This was a pleasure to read! What a break out book Lainey Cameron wrote.
This was so a wonderful written Women's Fiction Book.
She gave us two strong intelligent women leads , mystery and showed us what you can over come with embracing a strong friendship. I was hooked from the beginning and loved this plot twists here and there.
You should definitely pick this up to read, it would make a great book club pick.
Thank You NetGalley and The Wild Rose Press, Inc for allowing me to read an advance digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
On one side, efficient Ryn decided a long time ago that work would go first in her life. She'd been eager to achieve success since she was a child. And now she is ready to close the deal that will open the door to the promotion she'd been denied for two years.
On the other side, there's Carly. A scientist with a big heart. She clearly understands the scientist side of her professional career, But when the executive part of the equation comes up and she needs to put herself through stage speeches and press releases, it gets complicated. Her life has not been easy and her decisions could have been better. But she's on the road now and ready to be taken serious as a female scientist with a full life on the side.
They are both ready to sit in front of each other to discuss about the funding of a startup. Ryn in charge of the funding, and Carly in charge of the scientist part. But there's something else that involves both of them they are about to discuss. And that exchange will change their lives forever.
I liked this book very much. The plot is masterfully executed and the characters are powerful and strong. And even if the idea can be found quite thrilled, the author found the way to make it interestingly renewed.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
LOVED this book! Strong women who support one another and push against the women tearing each other down trope. With twists and mystery à la Liane Moriarty and the confident, comfortable voice reminiscent of Katherine Center, THE EXIT STRATEGY should be in every beach bag this summer!
What an interesting and powerful story of two women, from seemingly different backgrounds, Ryn the successful woman in a male dominated industry {why are we STILL talking about this??} and Carly who is a single mom, and has risen up to her ideal secure spot.
FREEZE THE TRAIN- Ryn’s husband has a mistress, and it is Carly. Carly’s fiance has a wife. WHOA Y’ALL! That’s some page turning craziness there!
Digging deeper though, Cameron has developed a novel where there are two strong female characters that society would love nothing more than to cat fight it out until the end of the novel, but do they? NOPE! I love that she’s built this world where strong, powerful women can be in a novel together and not be in competition with each other. It becomes a story of growth and “where do I go from here” for both women, as any of us would respond to a shattering of our “perfect lives”.
WOW I love this type of story that deal with husband wife drama. You are able to go to a meeting and see the women who is sleeping with your husband. I am pulled in!!!!
This story was well placed and is all about the stress in the business world. I loved the science community talk since I am involved in science myself. This story touches upon the struggles women face in the work setting. It also brings up how much women need to give up to be successful and how it differs from men.
I really enjoyed this!

Blown away. In her Debut, author Lainey Cameron, brought modern issues to life with an amazing story of friendship and work in a male-dominated industry. Written from a dual POV, both women characters are strong and when their worlds collide, they can only become a force to be reckoned with.
Taking place in Silicon Valley, Ryn is busy busting down doors through her investing while Carly is climbing to the top with her own company. But what happens when they find out they love the same man?
I genuinely enjoyed reading this and can't wait to see what Lainey comes up with next!
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this and give my honest opinion.
A powerful story of women’s strength. I liked how Carly and Ryan’s friendship develops and they help each other with the hardships that arise. An interesting look into the business side of tech and women’s struggles in the industry.
The Exit Strategy was everything you can ever ask for in a book! Words can not truly describe how amazing this book is! The plot is filled with emotional twists and turns that leave you in awe! You can not help but to fall in love with the characters! ⠀
⠀
Ryn finds out her husband has been cheating on her. When she confronts her husband’s mistress, she finds herself in a tangled web of lies that keeps getting deeper and deeper. As her personal life falls apart, Ryn must deal with her sexist boss, and the “boys club” mentality, that is rampant in her profession. ⠀
Ryn finds an unexpected ally to help her through both. ⠀
⠀
I loved the powerful message in the book, women supporting women, even in the gravest of circumstances. Ryn’s courage to befriend Carley, and to stand up to the men in her life that wronged her, and other women was so courageous. ⠀
This book addresses the inequalities of executive women in the workplace. It’s time that this attitude and behavior changes, and Exit Strategy promotes this. ⠀
⠀
This was a wonderful fiction thriller that spotlights a real world problem. The Exit Strategy is a must read! ⠀

I LOVED this book! It is so motivating to read a book about strong, successful women who support each other and most importantly, believe in each other and applaud her success. Ryn and Carly demonstrated that together, anything was possible which led them to create Equal Chances. As a woman who works in a male dominated industry, I can certainly relate. At the end of day, we all need to like whom we see in the mirror.
Lainey Cameron has created the perfect summer read! She survived the tech industry to write this great debut novel about friendship, marriage, strong women, survivors, motherhood, careers and the #metoo movement all rolled up into one “can’t put down” novel.
Ryn and Carly find friendship in the most unlikely way, and form a bond that helps each of them find their true selves. I loved these characters and how they balanced each other. The storyline moved at a fast pace and the ending resolved all parts of the plot. This is a very timely book for young women heading into the work force and also for any woman that feels she has to keep silent. It is hard for me to believe this is a debut novel!
What is the Nutella connection you ask? (OK, you didn’t ask- but I’m telling you anyway…) Ryn has a love for Nutella that is her lifeline. You will read about Nutella cookies, Nutella lattes, and even martini’s I think. By the time I was done I was CRAVING Nutella! I had to create my version of the Nutella latte that Carly makes for Ryn and it was pretty darned good. But if you want the real deal check out Lainey's blog for all the recipes and more.

TW: This book tackles sexual assault and sexism in the workforce.
I was lucky enough to be given a free e-arc copy to review. This book is about the power of women, when they stand together, and stand up for what is right. I LOVED that aspect of the story, which I didn't know I would be getting when I started reading.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I liked there there was an underlying message on the experience of women in the workforce, specifically the tech industry. This felt, to me, like the authors reaction to the #MeToo movement. A lot of what ends up happening in this book is taken from her own experience, which she talked about in the Author's note. I loved reading that little addition, because it gives the reader an understanding of how real the events of the book actually are.
I think as far as the plot, it was a little all over the place but I was there for every second of it. But I do think it is for a small niche group of people. This book is chocked full of DRAMA! And I personally was there for it, but I could see where it would be a lot if that's not your favorite thing in books. I didn't realize this was a debut when I started, but what an amazing first book! There were moments when I could fee that this was a debut, but I can't wait to see what else this author comes out with in the future!
The thing that I liked most about this book, is the friendship that forms between our main two ladies. The author doesn’t rely on the stereotypical “another love interest to get over the past one”. They grow together and learn to have a real friendship, which both of them lack. The fact that the main focus was this amazing friendship and the mutual respect, love, and encouragement these women have for each other was AMAZING to read, I could really see and feel the love between them!
Overall, I really enjoyed my time reading this book about female empowerment and love. It had me on the edge of my seat at times, and had me feeling all the strong emotions! I highly recommend this book, and can't wait to see what else this author writes in the future!
Walking into the conference room, you know you need to close this deal. Then you see her. Across the table is the woman who has been sleeping with your husband.
Ryn Brennan has worked her way up the corporate ladder, even proving she can swim among the male sharks in the business. Having a loving and supportive husband, Todd, who has helped, or at least she thought so until today. Ryn has discovered Todd has been cheating on her, with Carly.
Carly hasn’t always made the best choices in life, but she’s turned herself around, mainly for her son’s sake. Even trying love again as she is happily engaged to Todd. As a skilled scientist, she has co-founded a medical start-up company. Today Carly is meeting with Ryn Brennan, hoping to secure their biggest investor.
This is a well-paced story that centers around the cutthroat world of business. Although Ryn and Carly initially bond over being betrayed by Todd, the story digs its claws into the struggles that women face in the workplace. Both women are successful in their careers, but at what cost? They have had to put up with “the old boy’s club” mentality, the gropes and grabs, and the juggles of motherhood vs. career, as well. Having worked in the corporate world back in the ‘90s and early 2000s, I have to say that all this (and more) was very commonplace and almost accepted.
I enjoyed the friendship that grew between Ryn and Carly; although, I’m not sure I could be that gracious to the woman who had been sleeping with my husband.

Thank you to NetGalley, Lainey Cameron and The Wild Rose Press, Inc for an ARC of The Exit Strategy. This is my personal review in exchange for this ARC.
Ryn and Carly are two women one day I would love to meet. They have a bond that very few women have, and you know they will get what the want.
Ryn and Carly were both deceived by the same man and they took what has happened and made it work for them to achieve exactly what they want in life.
This is a book you need to put on your summer reading list. Lainey Cameron has written an amazing debut novel and I look forward to reading her next novel.
