I'm addicted to the Charley Davidson series. There's so much character growth in each book, and it's not always Charley. In this one we learned more about the Bandits, and I gotta say, I could grow to love them more than Reyes if given the chance. They made my heart literally hurts. I think I'm taking the bumps in Fourth Grave harder than Charley did.
Each book only gets better and better, I can't even stop reading them.
This was a really fun, entertaining story. Charley Davidson is a grim reaper and a PI. Reyes Farrow, son of Satan, has been released from prison - and out of Charley's life, per her request. Charley and the other characters in this book were endlessly entertaining. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I received a free copy of FOURTH GRAVE BENEATH MY FEET (Charley Davidson Book 4) by Darynda Jones through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. In this installment, Charley is recovering from the trauma of being tortured nearly to death and then betrayed by her father. She’s an emotional and financial wreck. When a woman comes to Charley for help with a stalker, Charley decides to help. As Charley investigates, she identifies with the woman on many different levels, including the estrangement from family. Meanwhile, some bank robbers in the news look familiar; Reyes is out of prison, getting beat up, and refusing to pay his bill; and Charley’s dad may be trying to kill her.
Oh well, just another day in the life of the shining beacon of death. I highly recommend this series to mature readers who don’t mind occasional bad language and who either enjoy reading or don’t mind skipping sexy-times.
Serious question: where do I get the shirts quoted in the beginning of every chapter? Are they real? I want them to be real and I want to wear them anywhere.
Oh, yes...the book.
I want to start by saying that you can start the books anywhere. Should you start with book 1? Well, yes because awesome. But can you start with book 4? Absolutely! The author is very good at letting new readers into her world without boring constant readers.
As usual, the book is funny, sad, full of breathtaking action, and...when it comes to Reyes...full of breathtaking (um) action.
Excellent mystery, characters I want in my own life, and an absolute great read!

Love the Charley Daniels series; Jones continues to write engaging plots and great characters. I always look forward to the next installment!
the book and the ghosts she meets throughout her journey. I felt such heartache and sadness for Harper and the life she lived and where it brought her, that the excruciating emotion I felt for her devastated me.
I deviate: Charley and Reyes continue their immature mating dance of distrust and miscommunication that is trite and fabricated to draw out the ‘tension’(?) for 9 (!) more books in this series...?
Also, Charley still has not discovered her powers, nor has she admitted to her dad what she is. Seriously, these books are long enough for our main character to develop these skills. The forced witticisms and sarcastic jokes are trying on a reader, especially after 3 other books with this same formula, I’m bored and also it’s not funny to make jokes on and on at the dead’s expense. I have to skim through so many words to find the meat of the story. Reyes is still abusive towards Charley, what else is new? And Charley has so many more ‘hot’ men to ogle her way through in this book while these same men reciprocate by randomly falling in love with her.
What is going on here? Filler.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Welcome to the world of grim reaper extraordinaire Charley Davidson. Try as she might, there’s no avoiding her destiny.
Sometimes being the grim reaper really is, well, grim. And since Charley’s last case went so awry, she has taken a couple of months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above...or at least get dressed. It becomes clear something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane. But the more they refute the woman’s story, the more Charley believes it.
In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, is out of prison and out of Charley’s life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved.
Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans in this hilarious fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling series.
My Thoughts
2 months have passed since Charley was taken hostage in her own apartment by a man whose evil nature proved to be more than our favorite Grim Reaper had any defense against. Not only is she still recovering physically but her mental state leaves much room for improvement as the nightmares she suffered awake still follow her into sleep.
A consequence of this trauma, and another one that shook up the reader as well as Charley at the end of book 3, has resulted in our heroine showing more vulnerability this time around. Unfortunately in true Charley Davidson style she masks it with her sarcasm and buries the mental pain rather than facing it head on.
However as these things go life goes on and for Charley Davidson that means a new case to solve and her personal problems have to wait.
The new case brings with it some revelations that cause unexpected repercussions and once again lead Charley into dangerous situations, which in turn lead to the solving of not only the case she is involved with but several more as well.
From the beginning of the series to now Charley has grown as a character and her Grim Reaper powers are escalating bit by bit.
Now in this 4th book the game has once again changed, in several ways that were unexpected but not unwelcome.

Forth Grave Beneath My Feet is a action packed thriller! Charley is a witty strong female that is not only is a PI but who is the Grim Reaper. We have all the usual characters from the first three books. Garrett was growing on me in the third book but not so much in this forth addition to the series, ever since he died and came back from hell hes just weird...... I have a feeling he’s possessed maybe in some way. But I guess we will find out more as the series goes. Reyes and Charley finally lay claim to one another! I of course loved the parts of the book that they are together instead of apart. We finally got to find out why Reyes has always called Charley “Dutch”. Some other questions were also answered, but I have so many more I need answers too! I will be so glad when Charley finally figures out her powers and how strong she truly is. There were a few parts of this addition that I did shed a tear or two. It had some moments that may trigger a reader with the attack and flashback. All and all it was such a great addition and I can’t wait to start the next book. I loved the ending but of course it does leave you wanting more! I would definitely recommend each book so far in the series! I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.
I have never been the kind of reader that could sit down and read just one series for days. But Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet seems to be the icing on the cake. I read number two and three in the Charley Davidson series and thought maybe it was a fluke, surely I would begin to get bored with the third book in a row by the same author but no. I literally cannot get enough of this series, each book just seems to get better. Charley finds more trouble and danger in each novel. Book four teaches Charley some hard lessons about people not always being what they appear as she deals with PTSD and her father's betrayals. Dragging herself up by her bootstraps, Charley battles some agoraphobia to take a new twisted case and now demons find her fear delicious. With humor and sarcasm, Charley solves crime and heats up the night with her dark protector, Reyes. I am all in and totally addicted to this series now, on to the next chapter. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
This is the fourth book in the Charley Davidson series. I really like reading this author. The main character is very funny.
DNF’d but this was a case of “It’s me, not you”. I was all set for another tumultuous go at the Charley and Reyes merry-go-round, but damn, I just don’t think I have the stamina to keep going.
Reyes’d used me as bait, so we were once again at an impasse. I was mad at him for using me as bait. He was mad at me for being mad at him for using me as bait. Our relationship seemed to hinge on these impasses, but that’s what I got for falling in lust with the son of Satan.
Nothing is ever easy for our grim reaper Charley. Traumatized after being tortured, she’s now struggling with re-entry into her old life not to mention the very angry Reyes. I really thought I’d stay on this ride all the way to the last book but I have to admit defeat. There’s just too much push pull, rinse and repeat, when it comes to Charley and Reyes’ volatile history.
Note: I voluntarily read and reviewed this book generously provided by NetGalley and the publisher.
5 ‘I am so in love with Charley even though I am straight’ star!
I have a feeling that I’ll resemble insomnia Charley once I finish this series. This is without a doubt the best Urban Fantasy I have read in years
And now book. 4 where it keeps, getting more and more indeptg still engaged and loving this story line, the cover is gorgeous and I'm still binging onto book. 5
Thanks to the publisher for a copy to read and give my honest opinion.
Fourth book of an amazing series with such a comical cast of characters. From humans, to the departed everyone seems to want a peice of Charley Davidson. Before the last book ended, Charley got viciously tortured by Reyes father and she starts this one off by licking her wounds. She doesn't leave her apartment and shops tv network all hours. PTSD anyone? She solves a ton of cases in this one which I applaud the author for keeping all this stuff straight.
What did I like? Well Reyes finally tastes Charley in human form....Yay! Loved it. Some of her skills come fore front and she is kind of shattered by it. All in all though a great installment for a great series. Read them in order for the best fun.
Would I buy this book! Yes, this series is very fun and humorous. I've enjoyed all the books so for and would recommend all of them.
Thoughts for the author? I will definitely check out if this author has anything else written after I finish this series. Great job on this one!
Five huge stars of entertainment!
Wow this is the first series that I have read that I've been giving 5 stars to! Another delightful read and YASSSSS Reyes and Charley in the flesh lol!!!!
These books must be read in order but you will not be disappointed in any of them. I have enjoyed every book in this series thus far and I'm more than excited to start the fifth book. Charley is solving more mysteries while trying to stay alive in the process. She's also still trying to figure out how much power she holds. She also has to face her fear of what happened to her in the last story with Earl and there's no one better to help her than her protector Reyes. This book is full of mystery, suspense, laughs and in Harper's case a bit of loss in more ways than one. The ending of this story left me with a smile on my face and leaves me wanting more of Charley, Reyes, Cookie, ,Ubie and the rest of the mystery solving gang full of detectives, friends, grim reapers, demons and so much more.
This was another amazing addition to the series! Honestly, I adore this series and can't get enough of it! things are progressing for Reyes and Charley and I can't wait til they work everything out and become a proper couple. Til Reyes can get past the not wanting pity thing and give Charley what she wants, which is for him to tell her about his past and everything he's been through. I can understand him not wanting to talk about it and not wanting pity but I can also understand that Charley loves him and wants to know all of him, the good, the bad and the downright ugly ( the downright ugly being what he suffered at Earl Walker's hands). She wants what others have with Reyes, others like his sister and Amador and his family have, to know what he refuses to share with her. I love that Amber knows what he and Charley are and the scene where she revealed that she knew was so sweet, a real heartwarming moment for me and so cute. So much happened in this book with Charley's dad, Reyes and the demons! It has me really looking forward to the release of the fifth book to see how the story progresses and I really hope that the next book will see Charley and Reyes becoming a proper and official couple!
Again, I am really enjoying this series. This is the fourth book and I am looking forward to the next book. Love that the heroine is the grim reaper
I love this series by Darynda Jones, and it's one that is a must have, especially if you love a snarky, kick ass heroine! Any book series worth it's salt has to have one of those, as well as a sexy man who walks into your wildest fantasties/dreams! Very well written, and a series worth reading over and over!
Five Stars! I just cannot get enough of Charley and this series!
After the events that occurred at the terrifying and stunning conclusion of Third Grave Dead Ahead, we find our beloved Charley a prisoner in her own apartment. Buried behind mountains of cardboard boxes, as she has become an avid shopping network customer. Afraid to venture out of her apartment and nearly broke, Charley spends hours buying useless stuff and spending herself out of house and home. Thankfully, Cookie shows up and gives her some tough love....Well, Cookie needs a paycheck, too and without Charley working money is scarce. Thankfully, a knock at the door presents a case for Charley. She carefully emerges and begins picking up the pieces and putting her life back together. That also means she must deal with Reyes. Will Charley get her act together and find some answers and take control of Reyes once and for all?
What I Liked:
Once again the lovable Charley Davidson doesn't disappoint in her fourth outing. This time around, though, Charley is struggling a bit and her habit of jumping into the fire is subdued. That doesn't mean that she doesn't get into trouble. You can expect Charley, as usual, to find herself in plenty of sticky situations, one quite literally when she willingly ends up duct taped to a chair! This book does take on a bit of a darker tone, but never fear it is loaded with the typical wit and sarcasm that Charley Davidson is known for!
I liked that this time around I finally got some answers to some of the pressing questions that were nagging from the beginning. Reyes in a rare moment opens up to Charley and divulges a bit of information on grim reapers, and so forth, and at last I know why he nicknamed her Dutch!
I love that this series continues to utilize multiple story lines in each book. Charley is still trying to figure out her relationship with Reyes and determine whether the son of Satan spells trouble or not. The demons are hunting her, and Reyes is fighting them off. She is sorting out her messy familial relationships, and she might even be making progress on her relationship with her step mother, or not.....She has a puzzling new case that left me stunned at the resolution. All in all, a lot goes on in a Charley Davidson book! Darynda Jones never fails to keep me entertained. This series is like a breath of fresh air and I eagerly await each new installment!
I know I have mentioned this before, but I will say it again. This series does not have a love triangle (just a complicated romance) and it refrains from cliffhangers. I thoroughly enjoy reading these books because there is always a nice resolution at the end!
I liked that this time around Charley is starting to mature just a bit, and she is finally learning a bit more about her powers, but she still has a lot to learn because once again she manages to get her butt kicked a few times. I can't wait for her to stand up and totally kick some ass!
I adore Charely's new guardian, Artemis. She is just awesome! I want one! Well, I guess I don't need an Artemis since I don't have demons trailing me, thank god!
And The Not So Much:
I was disappointed that Garrett was pretty much absent from this book. I was expecting him to play an even bigger part, especially after the stunning conclusion of Third Grave. He doesn't even make an appearance until about a third of the way through. I love the wicked banter that usually ensues between this pair, but it is a bit lacking in this one. I have to say, I adore Garrett and I want more of him.
Once again, the relationship between Charley and Reyes is friction and lust. They have this chemistry that draws them to each other like moths to flames, only to be repelled once they are together. The bottom line, I don't know if the pair is ever going to get it right....I still think she should settle down with Garrett.
As I mentioned, this book has a bit of a darker tone. Charley is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder so her usual snarky, in your face ADD personality is a bit restrained. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but in comparison to the caffeine amped, sleep deprived Charley from Third Grave is a bit of a let down. Never fear, she still has plenty of funny lines, but they aren't quite as prevalent.
The Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones is a series I can always count on. Charley with her snarky, distracted personality always leaves me laughing. I also love the complex story lines that neatly tie off, but still leave me hungering for more. If you are looking for a highly entertaining series, please please do yourself a favor and try Charley Davidson! I am already counting the days until Fifth Grave Past the Light releases in July 2013!
