DNF at 55%. I was bored. Way too many flashbacks and dream sequences. They gave a little info, but most seemed to be variation on the same theme. This one didn't work for me.
I couldnt get passed the first few chapters because of the triggering abuse. I wish I could get into it but the desprictions were too much for me
This book has a very sad plot which at times was very hard to read. I plugged on through , I still liked this book but I couldnt say I loved it. The ending made the book as it brought closure to the whole story.
This was one twisted awful sad story. I was shocked by the brutality of the relationship but it was raw and real in the book. I liked the twist it took at the end. I rate this book a 3.4
A Tortured Soul is a crazy ride of intense feelings, Crystal the narrator of the novel has endured mental and physical abuse her whole life. Starting with her childhood, she grew up in a abusive religious household where physical punishment was a daily occurrence. After Crystal's first time with Richard she becomes pregnant and forced into marriage. However, Richard is just as cruel as her father, maybe even worse. After the loss of their first child then becoming pregnant again their second child is born stillborn causing more physical and emotional torture for Crystal.
Crystal's narrative is a twisted story that makes the read feel emotions most don't want to feel. The writing was very well done and i personally wanted to keep reading to see what would happen even though the subject was very difficult to read.
Overall, i would give this novel a ⭐⭐⭐ review, i found some chapters repeated Crystal's feelings which i felt wasn't needed however, i did think the story was well written and really makes the reader feel for Crystal and her situation.

Having previously read books from the author and liked them very much I was super excited to read this one however, it just didn't grip me the way her other ones did.
Thank you for an ARC of A Tortured Soul in exchange for an honest review.

This novel had powerful writing, very intense sequences, a tragic tone. But it is not for me and I found it mentally straining to continue reading.
Thank you #netgalley and #ladetwiler for the opportunity to read this novel.
This book made me feel every emotion under the sun! Sad, confused, angry, shocked and strangely happy. It's a very dark, twisted story that you will need to take a moment to really think about afterwards.
Crystal, our main character, is a very tortured, angry and sad soul. She was raised in a abusive religious household and was hoping to escape that when she got married at a young age to her first sexual partner. But alas, this is where her nightmare really begins. She was hoping he would be her prince charming but he was not.
The story follows Crystal and her descent into mental illness. As an unreliable narrator you never really know what is going on which makes for a very interesting last couple of chapters.
I have read everything this author has put out and honestly, she just keeps getting better!
I wouldn't recommend this book of you're uncomfortable wirh domestic violence.
This is one very dark and very twisted tale!
Crystal has grown up with very religious and abusive parents so when she meets Richard at his auto repair shop she hopes he could be her savior. Things don't always go as planned. Richard it turns out is even worse than her parents, much worse.
I'm not really a squeamish reader but I have to admit some passages set me on edge, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as it goes to the authors intent of making the reader feel for Crystal's situation. Told effectively in the first person, going from present with recollections of the past and ensuing nightmares it has almost a frantic quality about it. The writing is gritty and the character development spot on. The tension builds with a steady pace throughout ending with a satisfying conclusion. Although not for everyone, I recommend this one to those not bothered by graphic details of abuse and horror.

I really can't put into words what this book made me think.
Sad, confused, judgmental, worried.... it really got me thinking.
Crystal being the devoted wife & mother everyone thought she should be.
Well she was devoted because if anyone could stay in that type of situation is devoted. It's sad! But she does it for her child! So I could totally relate to that.
This book goes inside the mind of Crystal & what mental & physical abuse does to another person. We think we know.... but we have no idea!
The way abuse impacts someone.
I couldn't even begin to imagine.
And does it impact Crystal?
She spirals out of control. And totally loses her S****!
Do I blame her?
Absolutely NOT!
It really hit me at the ending....
The Sheriff who comes to Crystal's house.
Everyone in town knew the type of person Richard was! Out of control, fighting, abusing his wife, the town drunk!
But no one did anything to help or save her. They turned a blind eye. When someone could have done something. Maybe Crystal's ending would have been different!
