Three horror shorts - two I loved, one not so much. Solid writing, great concepts, but one just fell shy for me, and I can't really explain why. I thought the other two were well worth a re-read though, so the writing is solid and strong.

Morbid Delusions by Michael Julius Buckner was a fun short story collection that was a delightful quick read. I loved the introduction to the collection as it stated quite succinctly why we as humans seek out fear in our own ways. Fear is ingrained in us and fear helps keep us alive. We are far from our ancestors, but fear helps us feel alive. “Embrace your fear and revel in it.”
There are 3 short stories in this collection. Casualty of War tells of the horror of warfare. Run, Frank!, Run is a fantastical tale about the mysteries of an old forest. Midnight Snack tells the tale of a terrible human being who has his own judgement day. The last story was my favorite.
All in all I found this collection fun and I enjoyed reading it in less than 30 minutes time.

This book was everything I wanted it to be. It was creepy and I loved the plot and storyline in the book. It gave me all the feels I was looking for when I started reading this. I highly recommend this author. I loved the writing. I will be looking for other works in the future from this author.

Morbid Delusions was such a great book, each story unique and creepy in their own way. This is a very quick read and you will find yourself wanting to turn page after page to find out what happens next.

I really liked the 1st story, Casualty of War, the most. It was so well-written and thought out, it reminded me of The Twilight Zone Movie (1986) section "Time Out", but gory.

The Second Story, Run Frank, Run, was so unexpected. It was a mix of psychological/mental thriller with a supernatural aspect thrown in there. The ending was so interesting and completely unexpected.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Buckner's trilogy of horror presented three distinctly unique stories. The stories were well-developed and well-written but they just didn't do it for me. If you like gore, monsters, and Stephen King, you'll like these stories.

In these three horror shorts, Michael Julius Buckner is relentless in his scare technique. If you're looking for full-on, surround-sound level terror you will find it here with Wulff in combat, jogger Frank in a nightmare-scape forest, and murderous Thurman's encounter with justice.

Buckner writes very well, in fact as brilliantly as he terrifies; but if you're a reader who needs back story, clues and answers why, you'll be left spine-tingled yet mildly unsatisfied.

"THERE ARE FIVE ELEMENTS ESSENTIAL FOR SURVIVALAir. Warmth. Water. Food. Sex. These are obvious, but there is a sixth element which is just as important, without which, we cannot live. That last essential element, my friends, is Fear."

Morbid Delusions is the first trilogy in a collection by Michael Julius Buckner. Personally I dont often read short stories because they leave me unsatisfied, that is not to be case with these. Each of the 3 stories was unique and evoked their own sense of fear and unease. Overall, it’s a satisfying collection, and a very fast and gripping read.

I recieved a digital copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a collection of three short horror stories that range from zombie gore to mystical hauntings. Overall, I really enjoyed this quick read and thought it was entertaining. My favorite was the second story which has a similar feel to a Stephen King type tale. The book has some pretty gory scenes and monsters which only added to my enjoyment.

I would recommend this to someone who are fans of Stephen King and Briane Keene.

4/5

Morbid Delusions is the first trilogy in a collection by Michael Julius Buckner. The first of the three stories is extremely short and somewhat familiar in its premise, but the unexpected resolution is satisfying. It describes the brutal experience of a solider in a warzone where things are not as they appear.
The second story is imaginative and full of vivid imagery, describing a runner who makes an unusual detour from his path to explore an ominous forest. The mysterious source of dread in this one might have been too ambitious, coming out vague and uncertain.
The final story concerns a prowling killer who sets his sights on a victim carrying an unusual source of protection. It may be the strongest of the three, with an interesting combination of human trauma and supernatural myth. Overall, it’s a satisfying collection, easy to breeze through in an afternoon and written imaginatively enough to make continuing the series compelling.

A pleasantly morbid collection of three stories from an author with an overactive imagination.

Highly recommended for horror anthology fans.

This is a collection of 3 horror shorts. The first one is definitely focused on gore and a crazy idea, second one is more crazy and my favorite of these, I liked the idea if the third one but for some reason I didn't find it very gripping. I kinda felt something missing and was looking for more stories. But I like whatever little graphics they used before each story.

There are five elements essential for survival.

Air. Warmth. Water. Food. Sex. These are obvious, but there is a sixth element which is just as important, without which, we cannot live. That last essential element, my friends, is Fear.

In Casualty of War, a soldier finds himself amid the ashes of a bloody battle.

In Run, Frank! Run!, a regular evening run turns into a terrifying fight for survival. Who will win?

In Midnight Snack, a brutal predator meets his match while prowling the seedy back streets of the city.
