Agatha Arch is Afraid of Everything - a quirky, funny book which makes you laugh and cry at the same time.

Picked this book because it reminded me of Where’d You Go, Bernadette, which I loved. Past the covers and the quirky female lead characters, the books were not similar. I enjoyed Agatha’s journey and as a mom who runs a social media moms group in a small New England town, her FB group experiences.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. This book landed in my life at the perfect time while I was going through some terrible life circumstances and while it was a quirky, silly, funny book, I could relate to Agatha on many levels. Grief can make us do some outlandish things and behave in ways we would never think possible. Just what I needed. Thank you 😊

I really loved this book and the writing style. There were many times that I laughed out loud, and I absolutely fell in love with Agatha. She may not be the bravest person, but she is loyal and loves her sons fiercely.

I had so much fun reading this book. Agatha is a great main character. I am not a huge fan of the mother trope, but the story still entertained me.

I loved this so much. Agatha is struggling with pretty much everything in life, and the dark humor of how the story unfolds made me almost feel guilty for laughing a the clever way everything was phrased. Watching her push people away when clearly all she needs is a good community hurts, and seeing how everything resolved was just lovely.

This book is amazingly funny, it made me laugh throughout the novel, I loved Agatha, she really is afraid of everything! When she finds her husband and the dog walker in a compromising position in the shed, she looses her mind. She is a quirky mom who is worried about what the Facebook group of mommas will think about her now that she has been cheated on. She loves her kids and hates the husband that cheated and gets sprayed by a skunk. It's like life couldn't get any worse. This book was a great quirky read.

This was a huge DNF for me. Agatha Arch was quite annoying! And I felt the blurb for this one made it sound so good…but I just couldn’t continue.

I was getting "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine" meets "Where'd you go Barnadette". Agatha finds her husband shagging the dog walker in their shed.. and her whole life get ripped apart. She's the talk of the town. and humiliated. She starts spying on her ex husband to see if he's miserable without her. It's very funny and sad at the same time.

Found this book a bit too over-the-top and anxious/anxiety-creating for me. Failed to capture and keep my attention, sadly

Thank you to NetGalley and Alcove Press for my copy of Agatha Arch is Afraid of Everything by Kristin Bair in exchange for an honest review. It published November 10, 2020.
If you're looking for a book that will fit on the shelf around reads like Where'd You Go, Bernadette?, Elinor Oliphant is Completely Fine, A Man Called Ove and Holly Bank, Full of Angst, then this is definitely for you. You've got a woman who is unsure of herself, finding her way in the world. I know that's simplifying things, but I really appreciate this type of story, it is always so inspiring, and that inspiration applies here as well. Along with lots of laughs.
This book is full of crazy situations, lots of mom group drama, forced friendships and tons of Bear Gryllis references. You'll go from laughing one moment to wiping a tear away in the next. And you'll wish you could be part of Agatha's life!
Trigger warnings: R-rated language, sexual references

When Agatha Arch finds her husband and the neighborhood dog walker in her shed, she goes a bit crazy. She doesn’t have a lot of friends - just a “shrinky dink” and the Facebook Moms group. While she’s afraid of everything, Agatha still dons her spy pants to go spy on her husband and his new girlfriend. She also spends a good bit of time worrying about a young woman who panhandles on the busiest street in town.

I have mixed feelings about this book - it is one of those stories where nothing much happens. It was fine. I didn’t really like Agatha, and I understand her quirkiness was supposed to illustrate her anxiety, but she just seemed unlikable. The audiobook was a quick listen, and the narrator did a great job.

Thanks to @NetGalley and Alcove Press for my ARC!

Pretty good book. Honestly I wasn’t all that hopeful going into this book and it really surprised me. Definitely one to check out.

I did not like this book and was unable to finish.

I did not find it that interesting and had really high hopes for it after seeing the cover. It looked like the kind of book that would be right up my ally.

This was one amazing little book. The humor frequently had me laughing aloud! And even when I was embarrassed with Agatha for her post-divorce antics, or angry with her, I still wanted to befriend her. A truly wonderful, authentic cast.

Agatha Arch is hilarious, overly-anxious, and afraid of anything. She’s a wife, mother of two boys, and an author. The book starts with a bang, quite literally, as Agatha discovers her husband’s infidelity in a most, ah, indelicate way. She proceeds to basically unravel for much of the book, often via the local Facebook “moms’ group.” Often her scheming behavior is obnoxious and almost makes her an anti-hero at times. However, she manages to redeem herself and somehow, by the end of the story, she ends up as a well-adjusted person who’s ready to face the world without fear.

This book is a lovely, light read. At times it is laugh out loud funny, and if you like hilariously cringey scenarios a la Bridget Jones’s Diary, I highly recommend it. It’s not just all fluffy, though – the book does go deeper. The fear of rejection, desire for acceptance, the struggle to connect, heck even the grieving of a lost marriage – I think many folks can connect with these sentiments.

Unfortunately, this one was not for me. I really tried to slug though it then decided to just DNF.

I hope to pick it up again soon.
