3 stars. Thanks NetGalley for this book to read/ listen and review. This a good beginner book for enneagram exploration. I find that books on the enneagram are better for me in book form than audio as I want to mark certain passages, and write down quotes. Hard to do when listening to it on audio. I like her “enneagram” bingo by number. I felt the book started to drag along for me as each chapter focused on individual numbers. I like when the writing on enneagram numbers looks at numbers relation and working with each other.
I listened until midway through type three before stopping. I had hoped that this book had an enneagram test but I didn't hear one at the beginning and didn't see one based on the table of contents... although I may have missed it since I didn't listen all the way through the book. That said I liked how in depth she went in each type so I can see this being a great resource to go to once you think you know your enneagram number to delve in further.
3.5 🌟
I found this book pretty interesting and informative! However, it is absolutely necessary to go in with some basic knowledge of these enneagram types, otherwise, you’ll be just as lost as I was. I found it helpful to stop, take a quiz to narrow down my potential types, and then go back to the book to my sections. I definitely saw a lot of myself in some sections more than others.
Some things that I did not like - constant use of “its totally okay,” “I give you permission,” and similar language that made me feel like the author thinks we are all super self conscious with ourselves and our issues.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
I would like to apologize for not downloading the audio book file on time. I got busy for the past several weeks due to pandemic. Hope you stay safe.
I’ve followed SarahJane’s Instagram @enneagramandcoffee and love her content so when I saw there was a book I dove right in! I’ve struggled to find enneagram books in the past because most of them have heavy religious overtones but I didn’t experience that with this. It’s a great dive into the basics of the enneagram and a study in your number. It’ll make you want to seek out more information for sure!
I am new to enneagrams, so I missed some basic information inside this audiobook. It is maybe better for those who had already met with enneagrams. The Honest Enneagram does not include a test, so I was a bit confused at first. You can take this test online and then listen to the chapter with your type. I would say I would enjoy a book more. It would be more practical, as I could go back and reread something.
Otherwise, it was a good audiobook that offered quite a deep dive into each type. I like that the narration and also the content is pleasant and very positive. 3,5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to listen to this! All opinions are my own.
The Honest Enneagram is a very informative and interesting book. This goes through all nine Enneagram types. It is full of compassion and understanding. It is perfect for anyone new to the enneagram or for anyone who wants a refreshing perspective. Leslie Howard did a great job narrating the book.
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Audio for this audiobook.
I am always very intrigued by the various methods by which personalities are classified! This has made me dive deeper into the topic by reading books talking about it! So, when I saw this book, I was very sure I had to listen to it!
✨
The author is an Enneagram Enthusiast and wrote the book based on her research of many years. The book is thorough and has a chapter per Enneagram type. The book lists down the qualities to identify the type of personality accompanied with behavioural explanations. It also gives the details about How can we improve ourselves thus becoming a better personality!
✨
The book is narrated by the author herself. She has done a great job with it as the narration is impeccable making the experience better!
I loved listening to her observations and trying to identify my own type!
Definitely a great read for lovers of personality types etc.. but would feel like information dump or confusing at times!
Enneagram- A map of human psyche that helps us come face to face with our blind spots. Sara Jane Case gives the readers a view with more Compassion and understanding. In this book you will come to love yourself, be honest with yourself and honor your strengths. You will see “growth isn’t a destination- it is a relationship”. This is truly the best book on Enneagrams.
This was an interesting take on the Enneagram. It included a lot of lightheard references to pop culture, which was different from other books on the topic that I've read. I'm sure a lot of newcomers to the Enneagram will find it very relatable.
I got about 1.5hrs into the audio book before realizing that I really want a paper copy in hand. I think the content is going to be fantastic! The narration on the audio is good but after listening for a while I went and found a preview of the physical book online and all the graphics are really lost on audio. I just ordered a physical copy and can't wait to get my hands on it!
As a longtime fan of Sarajane Case's instagram enneagramandcoffee, I was so excited to see this audiobook available. I have read and taken multiple quizzes about the ennegram and been unable to pin my number down. After listening to this audiobook wonderfully narrated by Leslie Howard, I was finally able to figure my number, my subtype, and wing! Listening to this audiobook was both relaxing and informative about myself and others.
As a visual learner, I would have liked to be able to see some of the graphics from the book to refer to but otherwise I enjoyed this book and learned a lot about the ennegram!
Thank you to the Author, by Sarajane Case, Andrews McMeel Audio, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and NetGalley for this audiobook ARC
I will be very honest right up front and say I did not listen to this entire book. I did however listen to the sections related to my Enneagram (type 2) and my husband number (type 9) because I felt like those are the ones that I will feel the most interest in and maybe even qualified to review.
So let's start with the sections about type 9 since that is the one for my husband. I am not a 9 but I am married to one so I can say that reading this chapter gave me a much more clear picture of the way my husband thinks and how he reacts to things. It also gave me an idea as to how I have encourage him better. So just from this chapter I can say that you should pick this book up and read over the sections that talk about the people you are close to because it can honestly help you be more understanding to that they need.
Now for the type 2 section. This is my type and I will tell you right now that I cried though a good portion of this. This book walks through all of the things you may ever want to know about your enneagram type as well as some things that you may not want to know about yourself. I guess there is a reason that this book is called The *Honest* Enneagram.
I liked that this book didn't just explain what the enneagram is but also talked about the strengths, weaknesses, and action plans to make a type a healthier person mentally. I loved this book.
I also listened to the audio version which was a pleasure. The narrator did a great job at inflection and really making feel like she was talking directly to the reader and not just reading what was in front of her.
I’m mildly obsessed with learning about my enneagram. I loved listening to this audiobook. I mostly listened to the chapters related to my enneagrams (2w1) and pieces of others about close friends. I think I’d enjoy a hard copy of this as well. I love an audiobook while working but with this type of book I would’ve gained from seeing all the info written down. Totally recommend to those who love to learn more about themselves. No test included (which I sort of think all of these should come with) but there’s plenty of places to take tests online. Great for someone who has already been introduced to true enneagram!
Being new to the Enneagram, I found this book to be extremely informative. I appreciated the background information and the depth of information surrounding each enneagram type. I was able to receive an audio copy of this book, which I appreciated the narration and thought the listening experience flowed well, providing clear comprehension.
I've never really identified with my enneagram number until I read this book. I've read several other books on the subject, but none of them mirrored so many of the personality traits I have and explained how I can best use them in life. This was a quick, concise book and anyone who wants to dive a little deeper into the enneagram should pick up a copy. *Advance copy provided by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
I will start by saying that the narrator, Leslie, did an amazing job. Her tone, inflections and pauses were spot on for this introspective book.
The Enneagram in general is briefly discussed, but the book takes time to focus on each of the 9 types individually. The author offers a basic overview of each types, with a "bingo card" by which you should be able to identify which of the types you most fit in. She goes into subtypes, wings, and lines. Then she gives practical advice on how to work against your weaknesses and better use your strengths. She even gives a moment to discuss relational complications.
I found her wording in the advice sections a bit repetitive, but her sentiments for each type were unique. This is definitely not a "my first enneagram" book, but is great once you have gained a little experience with something like "The Road Back To You". I also found this book a bit "new-agey" at times; telling listeners to think of their place in the universe and meditate. I prefer the more Christian-slanted enneagram teaching, that brings your relationship with God into focus, and effects how you utilize your giftings and overcome your shortcomings.
This book is definitely worth a listen (or read) for pretty much any adult seeking some self-reflection.
I love reading (and listening) about the enneagram. It helps me understand others (and myself) better - and how and why they react or act the way they do.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel for providing this audio book for review! This book gave a great overview of each type and a lot of insight into motivations, strengths, and weaknesses. The narration was fantastic, though I intend to purchase a physical copy to more easily reference things in the future.
As someone who was previously familiar with Sarajane's work with the enneagram, I was very excited to dive into this book! I am relatively new to the enneagram as a system and am still in the midst of determining my type, and while this book's purpose is not to type its readers but to delve deeper into the each type's strengths, weaknesses, and traits, I found it to be an invaluable tool in inching closer to determining where I fall on the enneagram. I found myself suddenly in tears as I listened to the description of the childhood-based fears of one of the types, a visceral reaction born from a deep sense of feeling seen as I truly am. I plan on returning to this book once I have settled on my type for further reflection!
The audiobook narrator had a compassionate and caring tone throughout, which was absolutely lovely to listen to. Some sections of the book would be better served in a visual medium, but the descriptions were quite detailed.
One thing I would have loved to see would have been a bit more of the history of the enneagram as a system. I found myself becoming increasingly curious about its origins and evolution over time, and while its ancient roots are alluded to, they were never explored.
Overall I quite enjoyed this book and found it incredibly informative and engaging!
