It took me awhile to warm up to this book, and I'm actually still waiting for them to warm up for each other!
There's no intimacy between them and this book is a bit boring.
If it wasn't for the mildly entertaining banter and sarcastic comments, or the swoony way that Gale tried to woo Odette, things could've been worst.
It's a really slow burn, when it ends before it really burns anything, but there's another book and it ends with a cliffhanger, so i guess it's not finished.
JJ McAvoy as always delivers. This book (and duology) is no different. I was instantly swept up in the story and dying for book two.
"The higher you are in the world, the more strings you have attached to make sure you do not fly off"
I can't believe I postponed this book for so long!
The Prince's Bride is a funny, sweet, heartwarming modern royal arranged-marriage slow-burn book whose main characters are Gale, prince of Ersovia in need of money, and Odette, an American heiress that needs to marry to get her inheritance.
In reality, but when Gale meets Odette he's instantly intrigued by her and her wit, on the other hand, Odette won't change her mind, so he'll try everything in his power (while confined in a penthouse) to win her over, including huge bouquet and cheesy letters.
Honestly, I felt so dumb for a moment because I thought this book was a standalone, but I was so wrong that the ending hit on me so hard that I found myself thinking about it FOR DAYS. I'm still shocked.
I'd really want to write a list of things that I liked the most, but I can't. The fact is that I loved EVERYTHING about this book and for this reason I started The Prince's Bride 2 right away 😂
This is my first JJ McAvoy's book and it left me speechless, I'd love to read something else by this author!
Prince Gale needs to marry for money and his family. Odette is an American heiress that needs to marry to get her inheritance. She doesn't really want to marry but needs to do it. The couple have to decide if they can live with each other or go their separate ways.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
He is a spoiled playboy prince whose family is in desperate need of money.
She’s an American heiress who can only get her inheritance through marriage.
According to their families they are a perfect...
when i requested this book i didn't read the synopsis, i just got it because i'm a big fan of this writer. when I decided to read it then I saw that it was the first part of the couple's story.
now I finally got to read it and fell in love with the story and the couple.
I would start this book, drop it, come back to it, and not recognize it for a chapter or two. And maybe that's it in a nutshell: it has some likeable elements, some familiar elements similar to royalty rom-coms in print and on screen, but it's missing something to make it really stand out from the crowd. Both the hero and heroine came off a bit selfish and short-sighted at times, and the family interactions were a bit of a slog to read. But I do plan to check out other works by this author.
Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
It was an alright read, but it took a long time before they started to be together, develop feelings wich is alright but then it was very quickly escalating with dramatic events and all. I had a hard time with the chemistry between the two. I wasn`t too fond of either main characters either.
I adored this book! I am so happy the author decides to make it a trilogy! Love all of this author’s books!
I’m sorry but I DId Not Finish this one. I just couldn’t read it. I read about 30% and I just couldn’t do the story. Thank you for accepting me to read this one and I will try again another time.
I was lucky to get a free eARC of this book to review. This is an amazing royal romance story, that is perfect for people who love royalty and hallmark style plotlines. The characters felt real, the romance felt real. It was truly an enjoyable read and I can't wait to get my hands on the second half of the story.
The romance between our main two characters felt incredibly real, as I said. It felt like it was quick (due to the circumstances of the characters) but within those parameters I felt like this could logically happen. I was routing for our couple from page one. It was also lovely to see our main two characters shift over the pages of this book, as they learn to trust one another and even grow up a little themselves.
But this book did one very important thing that a romance book has not done in a while, it shocked me. I was used to the romance cookie cutter plot, which this does to some extent. But the ending truly blew me away by how much I did not expect it, and yet it felt perfect for the plot of this story.
Overall, this was a truly lovely story, and I need to read the sequel ASAP!

I've been reading J.J. McAvoy's books for years now and the one thing she's consistently good at is creating worlds that you just want to get lost in.
I definitely enjoyed this book but it took me a while to get invested. At first I was really into this book, then I sorta lost interest about 25% in and it took me months to make myself pick this back up and I truly cannot tell you why I was so against picking it up. I think I just wasn't in the right mood for it but when I picked it back up this weekend, I got really invested in the characters and this world.
Odette is a heroine you can root for. Gale is a hero that I grew to like, but he's actually the kind of hero I usually stay away from now. Cocky, player, rich guy who doesn't really care about much other than himself. But, as we got to know Gale I saw other sides of himself and more importantly, we see him acknowledge his privilege which I really liked. I also liked that their romance was a slow-burn and nothing was rushed in that department. I mean, I guess in some ways it was, but it was realistically done, given the circumstances in the plot.
I'm giving this three stars because I definitely liked it and I love this author's writing, but I did not like the twist at the end of the book and for a long time, I contemplated DNF-ing this because I was really bored. However, I would actually recommend this book to romance readers as I truly think the reason why I had a hard time with this book was because I was not in the right mood for it, but perhaps if things were different this would've been a 4 or 5 star read for me.

What an amazing, witty, wonderful book! Odette and Gale are in the same boat. They both need to marry in order to get money. Gale is a Prince on a mission to save his family's dynasty. Getting in to an arranged marriage with a very wealthy woman will solve his problems. Odette's heart is filled with ice and she has no intention of marrying for money. Too bad her mother is relying on her to fix their problems. The quick banter between these two is so delightful! Gale must use all his princely charms to try and melt Odettes heart. Such a fantastic book that has a real shocker at the end, to be continued in the second book.

This is a cute, sweet modern romance involving a foreign Prince that needs money to save the royal family and an American heiress that needs to get married to get her inheritance.
Prince Gale of Ersovia has been ordered to marry a wealthy woman to bail out the monarchy who is deeply in debt due to failed management by the King. Odette Wyntor is a popular singer who's billionaire father left half of his fortune to her, on the condition that she get married. Odette's mother is swimming in debt, and Odette needs the money to save her mother.
Neither one of them wants to get married, but both must do their duty to save their families. Their parents have arranged their match, and Prince Gale is sent to Seattle to woo and wed Odette. The couple get off to a rocky start, but through Gale's persistence, sparks begin to fly.
Initially I was a bit put off by the author's writing. The Prince's inner dialogue constantly claimed that whatever Odette said was "hilarious" (when it wasn't) and the Prince constantly "snickered". Luckily the author stopped using those terms as often (or maybe I just got used to them and ignored them). In any event, the writing seemed to get a bit better in the middle of the book.
Considering the Prince was supposed to be portrayed as some playboy lothario, he fell pretty quickly for Odette and was determined to turn her heart. Likewise, she was supposed to be dead set against marriage, but she softened up pretty quickly as well. Considering the book was relatively short (I'm not complaining) I guess the author needed to move the story along quickly.
The last few chapters of the book seemed very rushed, as did the ending, but it was a fantastic cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fun enjoyable modern day royal romance. Odette and Gale have to get married for different reasons and they are set up by their repspective families. I liked that Gale was the typical fun loving party prince with an answer for every bad but fun scheme he gets caught up in. Odette lives a priveleged but slightly chaotic life, she's rich but doesn't come across as the typical heiress. I enjoyed the banter between them and Gale's growth throughout the book from the disinterested Prince to thoughtful and caring. Odette gave me whiplash at times when she kept changing her mind all the time. I was happy with the slow build of the relationship and the way it developed. This is a sweet fun easy to read romance that ends on avery unexpected cliffhanger.

This story started out a little slow and didn't pick up until well over halfway. It just seemed to drag on with what Odette and her stepsister were going through.
Odette and her mother are in need of money but she cannot get part of the money her father left her until she is married and the rest of it after she has a child. What a ridiculous thing to put in a will for your children. Anyway, Odette is in no hurry to get married but she has to think real hard about it because they really need the money.
Gale is Prince Galahad of Ersovia and his family is running out of money too. Seems his father has been spending more than they thought because he is losing his memories. Now it is his duty to find a rich bride so that he can provide the money to save the crown.
Odette and Gale try to come to terms and work together, but they seem to fight each other because what part of arranged marriages is real in this day and age. It seems as they spend more time together, they are growing closer and a small spark begins to grow. Maybe there will be a wildfire between them soon. I will read the next book just to see what happens between Odette and Gale, with the way this one ended it should be better the second time around.
This was a good story but is seemed to drag on a little longer than I would have liked. This is a first for me from this author and I will give book two a chance, I have to see how this story ends.

The Prince's Bride Part 1 was a refreshing royal romance. Different from my usual type of read, but I enjoyed other books by the author J.J. McAvoy and was willing to give this a try.
Both characters are of influential background; I enjoyed that. It's not often that royal romances feature this, I've found that usually there is a prince/princess and a commoner.
Gale is the Prince of Ersovia, one of the last countries featuring a monarch; he is the second son and doesn't take his position seriously. When it's time for him to pay his dues, he is anything but eager to meet the woman his family has arranged for him settle down with. Unfortunately, his marriage is necessary to keep the family secure.
Odette's situation is a little different. She is an heiress who needs her inheritance to keep her and her mother financially stable. What she doesn't know is that her father's will dictates the only way to get that inheritance is to marry! Odette is anything but thrilled to learn of this. She's not one to jump into relationships or give her heart away.
I liked Gale and Odette – their slow build, them getting to know one another, and their interactions. I liked the multiple layers of story, mostly Odette's story. I loved the banter from all characters, especially Odette's mom.
I must mention that I felt like the story stalled out, while they were getting to know one another there was a lot of internal questioning (Do I like him? Is this what I want? etc.) that seemed to go on for ages. The story itself didn't really progress much and this bothered me as I really wanted more... much more. When I am about to get that "much more," the book ENDED! I don't mind cliffhangers, but man is this one a doozy.
I will say that the positives outweighed the negatives, and I did enjoy this overall. I am anxiously awaiting book #2 – I need resolution!
What. The. WHAT???? First, wow. Second, I desperately need more. Gale and Odette have the perfect blend of fighting-the-chemistry-but-I’m-losing and drama between and around them. I didn’t know what to expect, but the pits of vipers around both of them have me worried. They have me wanting to know what comes next. And most of all, I need to know how Odette handles the changes that rushed at her. Gale, too. Because his life is now going to be such much less his than ever before!
This story is an incredible tale of the ties that bind and how much those ties can choke while unraveling around everything else. I found myself unable to put it down and yet dreading the end because I couldn’t bear to not have more. It is so well done that I’m clamoring for the second book already. And yes, I know that shows just how impatient I am, but I don’t care.
Ahh...this was a clever take on a "royal romance." I really enjoyed the venture into arranged marriage in the modern age. It demonstrated how people could still be used as bargaining chips to marry another person because it's advantageous for their family or country....not for love.
Prince Gale and Odettte each have different reasons for needing to marry the other. They are also both very much against it initially. However, as time goes on, they will find that their choices are slim and they actually "like" one another. It wouldn't be so bad, would it?
Then, just as the reader breathes a sigh of relief and actually believes these two might just find an HEA together....BAM...things happen and we are left feeling very unsure of their status. Yep, you read that correctly....cliffy until book two. So....Ms. McAvoy....please bring on book two.
