28 Days. One for each day in February, Black History Month. I don't know if the title is meant to be facetious. There are so many figures and moments that define the U.S.'s history, but the author chose to feature 28. Each chapter starts with the "moment" and then offers a bit more information about its central figure.

It is a good little book, but almost all of the moments are well-known. As a teacher, what I look for in these kinds of picture books are hidden figures whose stories are just coming to light. However, I am a middle school teacher now, was I teaching Kindergarten again, this might be a book I'd use.

Thanks to NetGalley, Publisher Spotlight Media, and Live Oak Media for the complimentary alc in return for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The book is made up of 28 days. Each day has a different narrator and focuses on either a historic figure or historic event in black history. The audio production is really well done with a mix of sound effects and music as appropriate to the events being profiled. It would be a fantastic way to help bring black history to life for preschoolers or early elementary students.

I think the audiobook combined with the picture book would be a great multimedia addition to a classroom.

The short run time of 80 minutes keeps this factual history book zipping along at a cracking pace. It spotlights 28 moments in African-American history that changed the USA and, in many instances, the world in some way.
The defining moments are summarised succinctly, providing an educational overview of the person, place and event that occurred before moving onto the next. It begins with Crispus Attucks who was the first American killed in the 1770 American Revolution, and concludes with Barack Obama, elected as America’s first coloured President in 2009.
In between these two milestones, we learn about well-known personalities such as Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and Oprah Winfrey along with a score of lesser known figures of American history. South Africa’s anti-apartheid revolutionary and later President, Nelson Mandela, also gets acknowledged due to his influence on America and the world at the time.
The stories are accompanied by music and sound effects, while nine narrators also add extra interest to the listening experience with crisp, clear voices that keep personal emotion out of the storytelling. The speed of narration is particularly slow to cater for the younger target audience however, so a faster play speed may suit older listeners.
The narrators are Dion Graham, William Jackson Harper, Zainab Jah, January LaVoy, Robin Miles, Lizann Mitchell, Robin Miles, Jonathan Earl Peck, Carter Woodson Redwood.
Targeted at children under 10 years old, this audiobook is a fascinating snippet of histories that is suitable for all ages who want a quick lesson in America’s black history. It’s both educational and thoroughly enjoyable.

This is such a great idea, highlighting a different noteworthy figure for each day of Black History month. I enjoy the poetic tribute followed by a brief overview. That structure would work well for a follow up assignment, having students write their own entry.

Harriet Tubman, Hank Aaron, Malcolm X, Matthew Henson, Shirley Chisholm, and Oprah Winfrey. Lyrical verse combines with informational text to highlight the contributions of these Black change agents.

The audiobook edition of 28 Days: Moments in Black History That Changed the World enhances the book’s message. Among the many imaginative sound backgrounds are an original recording of Marian Anderson singing "My Country "Tis of Thee," the back and forth dialog describing Arthur Ashe and Althea Gibson that simulates a tennis match, Barak Obama reciting the oath of office, and a choir singing "We Shall Overcome." Narrators Dion Graham, William Jackson Harper, Zainab Jah, January LaVoy, Robin Miles, Lizan Mitchell, Jonathan Earl Peck, and Carter Woodson Redwood introduce themselves in the preface. Careful listeners will be able to identify each performer throughout the recording. The author and the illustrator introductions are read by Smith and Evans respectively.
For an optimal experience, pair the printed book with the audio edition. It's an elegant and informative history lesson.

'28 Days' is an inspirational educational collection of 28 unique stories commemorating Black History Month. Each day tells a brief story about a different person or event that changed or shaped history. This would be a great starting off point to use in the classroom or even to listen to with your children. The figures included range from very popular, to those who are less well known. The audiobook was very well-produced and includes a variety of gifted narrators and clips and music. Since only 28 days are presented, there are sometimes large gaps in between events and historical figures. I would love to hear a sequel to this that introduces even more historical figures and events.

Thank you NetGalley and Live Oak Media for providing this audiobook.

This was a wonderful production read by a full cast. The words alone in this book would've made for a wonderful read but the production quality of the audiobook makes it that much more enjoyable. The background music, the sound clips of great leaders like Martin Luther King Jr and Barack Obama all blended together with the voices of multiple narrators. It was just enough background to enrich the experience rather than overpower the words of the narrators. Each of the 28 days had multiple narrators bringing to life the event of that day.

We use this book in our Preschool classrooms for Black History month every year, and throughout the year if one of the people featured fits with our theme. The kids enjoy the rhyming format and beautiful illustrations and I like that it covers some people we already talk about and some people that we hadn't. I listened to the audiobook through NetGalley and felt it added an extra dimension having things acted out by voice actors.

Really well done! I'd love to see the print book. This is wonderfully narrated by a variety of readers, giving a fabulous texture to the writing. I was delighted to see some lesser known heroes of Black History. I learned a lot. Thank you to NetGalley and Spotlight Audio for sharing a copy with me in exchange for my honest review. I feel lucky to have experienced this fine audiobook.

good educational tool. the history is mostly of those we have heard of but there are a few lesser known figures thrown in. I wish there were more of the lesser known. It was still a good lesson in Black history. there were various narrators throughout the audio. I think kids and adults will enjoy the stories. They are not too long or too detailed.
