Thank you so much to NetGalley and Hera Books for my copy of You Let Him In by JA Andrews in exchange for an honest review. It published August 19, 2020.
This was a pretty decent and readable thriller. I liked the multiple perspectives that this book was written in and the chapter lengths. It definitely kept me reading just one more chapter.
I have to say that I did figure out the twist early on, and the motive, however, that didn't take away the experience of reading it.
A great psychological read
I really enjoyed this storyline and found the authors writing style very easy to read
I will look for more by this author.
This book started off strong but then it lost his momentum.
The storyline was so predictable and the ending was obvious
A disappointment
There were parts of this book that I didn't enjoy as Jenny was dumb a lot but in general it was a really good book. Jenny just wanted to be loved and be the perfect wife and have the perfect family but when her husband gets killed in what seems to be an accident Jenny just wants answers and his wedding ring. The ending was a little sad as I didn't see it coming but it was a good book in general.
You Let Him In is the latest explosive domestic drama by JA Andrews that deftly explores how well we truly know the people we share our lives with.
Being a wife and mother has been all that Jenny Clifton had ever wanted. When she had met Michael, she thought that all of her dreams were about to come to fruition and when a baby followed a couple of years after their marriage, her happiness was complete. Or so she thought. The rosy future she had envisaged for her and Michael has been smashed and shattered with daily screaming matches becoming the melody accompanying their lives together. There is no hope, no money and no joy any more. Something needs to change and it does. Michael is killed in a hit and run accident and that is the start of an even bigger nightmare for Jenny.
Michael had died holding the hand of a stranger. Jenny, desperate, distraught and lonely, finds herself striking up a friendship with this stranger whom she knows nothing about. But this unlikely friendship begins to grow even more sinister as Jenny begins to uncover some shocking secrets about the man she had married. Why did Michael never tell her about some of the alarming discoveries about his life which she is making? As Jenny realises that everything about her life was built on a lie, she quickly realises that she needs to stop focusing on past dangers and concentrate on present terrors because her new friend is getting far too close for comfort. And he may have dangerous secrets of his own…
J A Andrews builds up suspense and tension so brilliantly that you find yourself eagerly turning the pages even if you are reading You Let Him In in the middle of the night. An exquisitely paced chiller that delivers all the shocking twists, spills and surprises which we love about this genre, You Let Him In is a nail-biting tale of deceit, vengeance and obsession best read with the light on.
Twisty, scary and addictive, J A Andrews’ character- driven thrillers are must-reads for fans of Jane Corry, B A Paris and C L Taylor.
This was a very solid read that keeps you guessing until the end. I haven't read much by this author, but will do so again in future.
This was quite a good thriller with a very surprising end! I found myself getting frustrated at some of the characters and their actions but that didn’t spoil my overall experience of the book
Great plot to get yourself lost in. This book has everything. A real fast paced thriller. Will get your heart racing on more than one occasion. Very well written. Highly recommend this book
Thanks to Netgalley for sending me the ARC! I liked it but expected so much more. I didn't agree with some of the characters actions so it was a struggle to get through it. I rate it a 3.1
An excellent mystery and thriller book. Loved the climax which was really unexpected. The cover and description is really intriguing. A perfect read for weekends.
i absolutely loved this book from start to finish. a really engaging plot and believable characters, i didn't want to finish it.
You Let Him In is an interesting, twisty read with many secrets to be uncovered, however the ending was a bit predictable
Jenny, like most women, goes into her marriage with high expectations. She and Michael have a fairytale wedding followed by the birth of a child. However, this does not seem to prepare her for the reality of marriage and motherhood. Everything is not always perfect, and you have to learn to roll with the punches. Unfortunately, before she figures this out, things go sideways, and Jenny finds herself alone to raise her son. Now there is hardship, heartbreak and secrets, and Jenny is determined to find out what happened. This is a suspenseful thriller with a heck of an ending. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.
This was a decent yet somewhat predictable thriller for me. I did like the authors writing style. Jenny got on my nerves big time! Usually when I feel that way about a character I lose interest in a book. Sadly, this happens for me with You Let Him In. I wanted to like this, but it was a miss for me.
Such an engaging read really enjoyed this. Not read anything before, by this author.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
A great book that had me hooked! Well worth picking up as it is definitely worth a read. Great storyline and interesting characters!
This is the first book that I have read by this author, and I really did enjoy it.
I am a big fan of thrillers, so the description of this book captured my attention right away. The book had a strong, well thought out plot that kept my interest throughout.
Loaded with a cast of complicated, complex characters, it adds another depth to this already fantastic story.
The story is told from various points of view, which really allows you to feel connection to the characters as individuals.
A well paced, engaging read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This book started off well , it started off with a bang and then fell flat. It was easy to pick what was happening so it made it disappointing. i found it hard to connect with the characters . It was repetitive in some parts . In having said all that I still liked it and there was a good twist at the end.
Great read! Even though I kinda figured it out, it was still well written and had me wanting to continue!
You Let Him In by JA Andrews is told by three narrators. The first narrator, Jenny, has just lost her husband Michael in a hit-and-run accident. Michael's mother, Donna, is another narrator, also grieving at the loss of Michael. The final narrator is Gary, the stranger who happened to be first on the scene at the hit-and-run, and who held Michael's hand as Michael died at the scene.
Of course, things are not as they first appear, and it turns out Michael had many secrets that begin to come out as the story unfolds. At about the 75% mark, the story really takes off and the momentum carried me through the rest of the story. However, the first three-quarters of the book really dragged for me as we spent a lot of time reading about Jenny and Donna thinking about Michael, wondering how this accident could have happened, and eventually speculating about the secrets that are revealed.
Thank you to NetGalley and JA Andrews for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
