My Saving Grace
Series: Book 10 of the Heroes of the Sea
Rating: 5 stars!!!!
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC given through NetGalley for review. All opinions are my own.
WOW!! I loved it!! It was such a sweet romance! If I had a physical copy of the book I would of hugged it. My Saving Grace was a slow burn, angsty, sweet love between Captain Lord and Lady Grace. The book starts off with Lady Grace having feelings for a man who has not paid attention to her, so she decides to learn something about sailing to impress him. It is during one of these attempts to impress him that she almost drowns and Captain Lord rescues her. He was so sweet and heroic!! She then asks him to help her out to learn more about sailing and he agrees. He falls for her fast, but he feels he's not worthy of her. He was so shy and quiet. He was your typical beta hero. I loved that for a change. He's had his heart broken before and so then he feels that he's not worth enough to Grace. During these lessons they develop a friendship and we see Grace begin doubting her feelings for Ponsoby. There were some embarrassing moments Grace went through to get his attention, but Lord always there by her side. You could feel their attraction and feelings for each other were strong and that their HEA almost didn't happen if her family and a certain spirit (This book does have a little fantasy, that plays a very important role in the story, but it just the story so much better.) didn't help them out.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm going back to the other ones in the series!
‘My Saving Grace’ is such an apt title. Lady Grace Fairchild is everything that Captain Delmore Lord (Del)m needs. She is free-spired whilst he does everything by the book. He is staunchly bound to protocol whilst she is impetuous. However, Grace is fascinated by Captain Ponsonby, a frigate captain and in trying to impress him, she asks Del to help her. However, the more time they spend together, Grace begins to wonder if Del is only the friend, that she thought he was.
I have to say that I loved this book, and found myself thinking about the characters, as soon as I put the book down, only to find myself longing to pick up the book again, so as to read on. Grace and Del’s story had me fixated from the first chapter. With the almost mythical beginning chapter of Del being visited by a ghost, prophesising his future, I was hooked. Whilst Grace and Del appear to be complete opposites, the ease in which they converse and the friendship that results, was so beautifully told, that I found myself constantly smiling when they were together. Both their insecurities are quickly forgotten when in each other’s company which made this a romance, that I hoped would work!
Whilst this is the 10th book in the series, I have yet to read one of the earlier books. However, that is soon to change as this book has made me so curious to read more about the characters leading up to Del and Grace’s story. This is a stand-alone book and Danelle Harmon achieves this by cleverly integrating the family members from earlier books, by giving them a brief opportunity to be involved in the machinations of this romance. Whilst the secondary characters’ appearances were brief, they are so aptly detailed, that they were integral to the storyline. I must admit, that Grace’s cousin, Ned, was delightful, being wise beyond his years – definitely a character to look out for.
One of the best books I have read this year!
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Can two people who are so different from each other find love? Grace always seems to be landing herself in uncomfortable situations around others. She is a bit impetuous, but has a good heart. She believes herself to be in love with a navy captain, but he hardly notices her. When Grace fins herself in trouble, it is Captain Del Lord who comes to her rescue. Many think Del is dull, but he is reliable, loyal, patient, and defends Grace's honor. He falls for Grace immediately, but her heart is set to his rival and he agrees to help her gain some sailing skills to impress her love interest. Grace enjoys spending time with Del and considers him a friend, or is it something more? Grace has to come to terms of her feelings to both men. But Del will have to return to the seas soon and Grace needs to figure out where her heart truly lies.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A stuffy captain and a young lady make a pact. She has a certain beau in mind and he has willingly offered to help her catch him. She soon finds out how wrong her feelings for that certain gentlemen have been, and how wonderful a certain stuffy captain can be.
