Dreams can be easy to procrastinate or ignore for a number of reasons, but Bob Goff’s new book, Dream Big: Know What You Want, Why You Want It, and What You’re Going to Do About It, challenges that all-too-common way of living. With the accessibility, humor, and positivity I loved about Love Does, Dream Big encourages readers to really think about their dreams and what it would take to pursue them. Of course, Goff shares from his own experience and also offers reflection questions and action ideas to make his overall message entirely practical.
I enjoyed reading Dream Big. It was a quick, easy, fun read, but left me with a lot to ponder by the end. I definitely recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
"We can't be the new version of us if we're stuck being an old version, and we're going to need to change some things that have worked in our past in order to make way for our future."
Prior to reading this book, I had heard so many good things about Bob Goff and his writing. His books came highly recommended from some sources I trust and I was thrilled to receive an advanced listening copy of this book (that I actually read well past the publication date). Prior to listening to this book, I had not read anything by Bob Goff, but I'm not sure I'm going to go back and listen to any of his previously published books.
Dream Big didn't work for me. I can see where it would be helpful for some readers, but this book didn't present to me any ideas I hadn't heard before. I enjoyed listening to the personal stories of Bob Goff, but I'm not connected with him so when he mentioned stories that related to previous books or other outlets, I wasn't really sure what he was referring to. The thing that bothered me the most was how many times he mentioned that he gives his real phone number out. It didn't bother me that he gives his phone number out (actually, how cool?!) it was the number of times he mentioned it. It almost seemed to me like Goff was bragging about how different he is from every other self-help author because he allows readers to connect directly with him. Look, I'm all for tooting your own horn, but nobody needs to hear it that many times in the course of this 5.5 hour audiobook.
Bottom line: there were some good tidbits of advice in this book, but nothing stood out to me as particularly memorable. Goff's personality didn't sit quite right with me so I had a hard time taking his words seriously. Finally, I was a bit bored through the course of listening to this audiobook. I stuck it out as I knew I needed to review it. This isn't a book I'm going to be recommending to others to read, but I can appreciate why people enjoy Goff's words, especially if they have been following him for awhile.
**Thank you to NetGalley and publisher Thomas Nelson for an advanced listening copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
bob goff is the classic enneagram 7-- an adventurer, a lover of people, a cheerleader for all the best things in life, a chaser of joy, and creator of meaningful, magical moments. his words always feel like a burst of sunshine, and they encourage me to step beyond myself, to take risks, to love people deeply, to pursue spontaneity and whimsy, and to believe that God really is as big, wonderful, and beautiful as the Bible says. he brings faith to life and exemplifies what it means to live and love like Jesus, and I'm grateful for his words and work in this world.
I struggled to like this book, but was really turned off by the religious lens through which everything was seen. My other problem is that I've read a LOT of self-help/improvement books, and there was nothing in this book that I haven't read many times before. But I'm guessing that there will be many readers for whom this book is just what they want and that they will find useful.
Dream Big is a book designed to help you think through what God wants you to do—and to make your daily interactions bigger and better for a great cause. I love that the author, Bob Goff, reads his own audio books. He is humorous and serious and helpful all at once. I love his inspiration and his reality checks. This is a book to help get you out of the “usual’ and into living a life that helps others. If you have something you want to do but need help getting started, this can help. If you’re stuck and need to find a purpose and some inspiration, this can help. There’s not pressure but guidance to help you get on a path that will help you live a big life. Love it!

I loved this audiobook! The narration was superb. Great advise from one of the greats! I grabbed a physical copy of this book so I can reference back to it when needed. I would highly recommend this book to anyone a little lost, especially after the year we've had.
Didn't realise this book was so heavily religious. I found the blurb misleading. Far too preachy and not for me, thanks.
This was a Wonderful audio book!! You can't go wrong with Bob Goff! His spunky spirit and his wealth of wisdom is unparalleled!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Bob Goff's Dream Big. I've heard him speak in person and this audio book is the same funny, and powerful. The book inspires you to evaluate your life and not give up on the things you want.
Bob Goff does not disappoint. His words are continually inspiring. With this book, he was soothing and hopeful. The situations were relatable and robust examples. The only issue with this book is the repetitiveness, which made a relatively short book feel shorter.
A wonderful book from Bob Goff full of insight, encouragement and inspiration on achieving your dreams. I loved the reminders of how money isn't the biggest determining factor for dreams and overall happiness. A great book for anyone looking for practical, down-to-earth strategies for the average person achieving higher than average dreams.
I love listening to Bob Goff on podcasts and so was keen to read this book. I have read others by him. Bob's enthusiasm is hard to match and his reading the story made you feel like he was talking to you, encouraging you, and gently pushing you forward. The topic I loved, Bob is someone although I have never met is the essence of how to Dream Big, but he is also honest. I would def get this book, it is for all ages, and for anyone who needs to be fired up, wants to get fired up, or is not sure what to do. My only issue is I need to now go reread or listen to it again as it contains many gems of wisdom and many things I really need to put into place.

Bob Goff is on a mission to shake people into the version of their lives they dreamt about before someone told them it was impossible or incorrect. He wants people to reconnect with the seat of their passion and their person. He wants them to dream big.
In this revelatory new book, Goff takes readers on a life-proven journey to rediscover their dreams and turn them into reality. In Dream Big he shows us how to:
▪️learn to define clearly your dreams for yourself,
▪️identify the obstacles holding you back,
▪️come up with a specific plan for reaching goals, and
▪️develop the tools that will help you act on the plan.
What I love about this book is the specific examples and strategies Bob gives throughout to help achieve our goals. In one chapter he discusses the importance of focus and living your life undistracted. Raise your hand if that is one thing that resonates with you. Me me me! Strategies like making lists, prioritizing yourself, making one phone call a day towards your goal, getting administrative help, and more are so helpful.
The audiobook is especially lovely because Bob narrates it himself. His enthusiasm shines through!
I highly recommend this one and can’t wait to put some of these strategies to work!
Thank you to Netgalley and Bob Goff for my audio copy of Dream Big, for an honest review. I have listened to and read a few of Bob Goff’s books. Goff’s enthusiasm to reclaim your dreams and to put fear aside is contagious. As always he uses his life’s stories to show the reader how to circle back to our dreams (big or small) and make a plan to achieve them. He also reminds us that we can come up with new dreams. The motivation is to not give up on any of our dreams. I particularly like how Bob narrates his stories, it gives it something extra. I am so glad I was able to listen to this book.. It was a five star read for me and during these unprecedented times, a positive listen was very welcome!!
A great read that goes beyond the typical self help book. I would recommend this for anyone ready for a change during this hard year.
Audiobook: “Dream Big: Know What You Want, Why You Want It, and What You’re Going to Do About It,” Bob Goff, Nelson Books, 2020
Audiobook Review by Mary Mikawoz
Book and audiobook available: July 23, 2020
It has been a long time since I have listened to an audiobook as I usually read paper copies or digital books. I used to frequently and regularly listen to Compact Discs when I was driving to work and back. I had quite the trek and so I was trying to use my time more efficiently and effectively.
The book by Bob Goff is a faith-based book about Jesus and God. Although it is religious, it is spiritual in thought. It is about your relationship to God and how you manifest/transform it in real life.
Bob Goff has had an interesting life from being lawyer to an advocate for children's safety and well-being. He tells an interesting story of trying to save a 11 year old girl from sex slavery twice in India and the consequences of his good intent.
He has lived an interesting life and seems to follow through on his own advice with getting his pilot's license, a motorcycle license after he drove the bike across North America and also starting and rebuilding for the second time a lodge in Canada after it burnt down. He has a loving wife and family.
I think the advice he gives is a combination between common sense and prudent advice. This book is especially suited towards younger people especially those in their 20s and 30s who are starting out in life and struggling. It may even apply to 40s, 50s and beyond if people are facing mid-life challenges and are looking for inspiration.
I found it to be a thoughtful book with some very interesting stories told by Bob Goff.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 based on the information written in a friendly, non-judgemental way. Aside from the audio book, it is available as a digital book and paperback as well.

Christian-Based Self-Help
Audiobook Review:
Before I requested this book from one of my favorite book review sites, I had not heard of the author. But I do find listening to self-help audiobooks enlightening, so I was curious about what he may have to say. I hadn't realized before starting it that it was so very Christian. While I have been one in the past, I am not now. Because of these faith-based underpinnings, some of the author's suggestions didn't quite make sense for those of us who aren't Christian. But I like the way he focused on just what the title says, dreaming big. What is it you truly want to do? What will give you a sense of purpose? How can you help the world? The author seems to have a plunge-ahead attitude that has certainly worked for him but wouldn't necessarily work for everyone. He blends both the self-help aspects, directly helping the reader, and stories from his life that give deeper insight into a particular idea he has shared. The author narrates this book himself, so it feels like you were just having a conversation about his ideas with him as he shares his stories. If you like that kind of self-help book, with the author’s stories from his life as well as ideas that could apply to yours, and you are Christian or don't mind reading a book that is so strongly one influenced by faith, you might find this book a fascinating read or listen.
In this newest book from Bob Goff, we are reminded of the dreams that God gave us and the blessing it is to pursue them. In typical form, Bob shares concrete examples from his own life about what it looks like to Dream Big, pursue those dreams and how God continues to meet us in those places.
I loved listening to this one on audio - it was like sitting across from Bob Goff and having coffee.
I love the invitation that he gives us to not only have those dreams, but to pursue them and practical steps into doing so (quitting things, saying no more often and more).
I read this while my church where I work is going through a complete organization and this paired so well with what God has been inviting me to do - to dream about and do.
I had never heard of author Bob Goff before, but I feel like I know him (and like him) after listening to the audiobook of Dream Big. It was just the right amount of inspiration and encouragement mixed with personal accounts of his own adventures and challenges. As a Christian, I appreciated how he brought God into his discussion of ways to discover and pursue one's dreams. I've read several books on this subject, but this book offered new ideas. The advice to step out of your comfort zone was a good reminder and the author's stories of the amazing things he has done encouraged me to keep chasing my own dreams. I highly recommend this book.
