Omg...this one is good.
Logan is kind of obsessive about the girls that he likes. It all started with Sophie, he fell for her hard. She didn't have the same feelings for him as he did her, but that's just the beginning. He started stalking her and becoming obsessed with her but, when she died of an overdose he left school and had a hard time with it. Now, with that chapter of his life closed he sets his eyes on Delilah. He starts watching her and when he sees how her stepfather and cop Brandon treats her he sets his plan into action and sets up a camera across the street from her to catch Brandon abusing Delilah or her mother but instead he catches Delilah kicking the jack while Brandon is under the car killing him instantly.
Delilah is not sad or upset about Brandon's death and things are starting to look up for her when Logan asks her out. He plans this amazing date and she is really enjoying the date until when he goes to drop her off at her house she kisses him and he says he loves her. Delilah is kind of freaked out by this turns tries to tell him they would be better off as friends and that's when Logan turns to the creepy stalker. He shows her the video he has of her killing her stepfather threatening to take it to the cops unless she gives them a chance. Basically holding the video over her head and trying to force her to be his girlfriend. But, Delilah has her own secrets and she is not about to let him control her so she takes everything into her own hands.
The twist and turns of this book is amazing. Once i read the synopsis of the book I knew I had to read it! I loved the whole twist and turns of the book and that ending was a shocker! I was hooked from the very beginning and I definitely would recommend this to anyone who enjoys thrillers or even the pretty little liars books.
The Obsession is perfect for fans of the novel 'You' but wished it had had a stronger female heroine and a different ending. Alternating chapters kept the pace even and I loved this book.
The Obsession was phenomenal and kept me guessing. To keep it short and sweet it's definitely a book you just need to dive into sight unseen. So, if you're a big fan of fast paced, dark and twisted thrillers, then this is for you!
This is a really interesting story. A little simple, but great for fans looking to fill that ‘You’ void.
I think at face value, this is good for what it is. Boy meets girl. Boy stalks girl. Boy blackmails girl. Girl changes that. Again, pretty simple and straightforward. The pacing is pretty quick, but I think some more twists and turns could have elevated the story.
I also think the ending feels somewhat rushed. An epilogue or some sort of follow up a couple weeks after the big conclusion would have been nice in terms of closure. I know this is meant to be the first book in the series, so maybe the sequel will take care of this.
Overall, this is a decent debut and an engaging enough start to a series.
The Obsession is all action from the get-go. It is jam packed with characters who are gritty and real.
Sutano writes descriptively and it adds to the feel of this book
I loved this book. It's a pacey, twisty thriller with enough plot twists to keep your attention all the way through. The characterisation of the two protagonists is perfect, with neither being quite what they seem. Highly recommend.
I went into this expecting mentally deranged characters and some eerie fucked up plotline. Fortunately, I got that, and comedy! This book was fun, undeniably so. I found myself laughing out loud at a lot of the passages. The story tackled heavy situations, scary ones at that, but the author excelled in making them funny and light despite the bleakness of what's happening. Exhibit A would be me laughing while someone is about to get murdered.
I love the main characters and I really appreciate this book being dual POVs. Both of the voices of the MCs are greatly in contrast when it comes to their perspective of each other, and yet the parallel comes in their predator/prey dynamic. Some of the scenes were a little too quick and fast paced in terms of the writing, but nevertheless, I had a great time with this book. I'm looking forward to more releases from this author!
THIS BOOK! Oh, man. So bone-chilling, nausea-inducing, creepy. I couldn't put it down. The characters of Delilah and Logan are both so exceptionally twisted! As a reader I rooted for Delilah and wanted her to succeed in getting rid of these toxic men so passionately it made me anxious- but **spoiler** she is also a murderer! There is the perfect balance of likability with her as a character, as well as with many secondary and background characters. The suspense and darkness in this book is perfect.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend. Even with the dark subject matter, the book was funny and fun with fast pacing and tension throughout. I loved Delilah's journey and her character evolution, even when--no, especially when she would make questionable decisions. When you think you know where the story is going, Delilah takes the wheel and drives you down a path you weren't expecting. I would've loved to know a little bit more about Logan's past, but he was still a worthy and hate-able villain.
I did think the ending was a teeny bit rushed and I wanted to see one more final twist or kick to the story because of how fast it was wrapped up, but overall this is a refreshing and exciting addition to the world of YA thrillers.
I found this book to be pretty predictable but it was still very good. I enjoyed the entire premise and I appreciate how fast-paced it was. I am interested to see what #2 will be like.
I enjoyed this book however I do think more could have been done to improve the story as not much really happened of shock value between Logan and Delilah it felt a little short at times. I also feel more twists could have been added to the Sophie part of the story as I was always expecting a huge shock but it never came. The ending was solid but did feel rushed. Overall it kept me interested and I look forward to reading more from Jesse.
What a great, scary and totally engrossing read.
None of the characters are likeable and I do mean none, but somehow it just added to the storyline.
Dee and her mom seen000 to share bad luck when it comes to men, but what follows was so well written and thought out. I could not put this book down.
Loved everything about it. One small comment, the author replied on the "she looked in his eyes and knew" trap once too often. There is no way someone can pick up on "subtle" eye and mood movements so much.
Otherwise great! (
If you’re a fan of Netflix’s “You” this is the perfect read to make it through the covid hiatus.
“The Obsession” tells the twisted story of Logan, a handsome young man overcome with grief after losing the girl he loved when he runs into Delilah a shy girl with secrets of her own and it’s not long before unhealthy dynamics take over and both must decide how far they’re willing to go for love.
Let me start with what didn’t work because it’s really only a pacing issue in that the events of the book happen very fast to the point that I had to go back and reread parts because I had just glossed over them despite them being pretty serious twists. The overall narrative takes place over the course of a few months but at the speed it’s told to us it kind of felt like days which made some of the stalker elements seem just as rushed and it was hard to maintain a level of believability there.
That being said I did really enjoy the the story. Logan may have been a little too one dimensional, which again I’m laying blame on the pacing, but Delilah was everything. She too could have used a bit more time to really flesh out but I enjoyed her sections and what she was able to accomplish and root for her despite some of the questionable actions she had to take.
This book is smart in that it keeps you engaged and you can see the brilliance of how the relationship was written to show this unhealthy dynamic and the back and forth between a predator and prey highlighting how sometimes those roles shift which is what really sold the book overall so it’s definitely one I would recommend!

This story of obsession has hints of You, Gone Girl, and Pretty Little Liars thrown in. When Logan, the rich, handsome by at school looks her way, Delilah is excited. Why does the hot guy like her? Could she be this lucky? Delilah lives at home with her mom and mom's abusive boyfriend. A boyfriend would be a welcome distraction from her abusive home life. It isn't until later that Delilah realizes that Logan is obsessed with her and will do anything to have her. Alternating points of view help to flesh out this story between the two teenagers. A thriller that will keep you reading. I;m only giving it 4 stars because of the rushed ending, which did NOT wrap up everything.
“You” meets “Pretty Little Liars” with a little Weeds and Killing Eve vibes!
It’s heart pounding, exciting, fast pacing, riveting one sit read with two very disturbed and batshit crazy narrators!
Poor Logan, obsessive, stalker, fully committed, dreamy boyfriend is so unlucky in love. He is hot, popular, lacrosse team player who can date any girl he wants but his girlfriend choices couldn’t be so wrong!
First she fell hard for Sophie who treated like him like turd on her shoes, rejecting his pure love!!! Of course Logan can be so persistent but as he pushed her harder, she ran faster and boom: The girl is expelled from school, taking her own life!
Logan is a mess now! He is warned by school counselor to pull himself together for the brighter future above him.
He has a reason to get back on the horse and tataaaa he bumped into that reason at the school. A new transferred student Delilah stands in front of him with her delicate features and shining natural beauty! And she has quiet resemblances with Sophie! It seems like he hit the jackpot!
And guess what, she seems like she has a crush on him. But there’s a big problem for their relationship; her mother’s abusive asshole/ police officer boyfriend doesn’t want Delilah to fool around. So he has to catch the officer in the act when he physically abuses Delilah and her mother so he can use his as advantage to file a complaint against the cop who has real anger management issues.
So he puts cameras to the trees in front of Delilah house and starts his binge watching entertainment with lots of popcorns and stalker fantasies.
And he catches something at the cameras. Something mind blowing and heart throbbing! He sees murder! No!!!! Don’t worry but Delilah and her mother is fine but we cannot say the same for the asshole boyfriend who rests in hell!
Yes, poor, innocent, doormat Delilah is nothing as she seems. She’s Black Delilah who just killed the asshole and gave the big leverage to Logan. Now Delilah has to obey! She can never leave Logan unless she wants to find herself behind the bars.
Logan is happy because this time his love of his lifetime cannot leave him!
Oh, Logan, think again! Delilah keeps one more big secret which is equally as dangerous as her murder attempt! Sorry Logan, you just found the wrongest badass girl who is a wolf wearing a lamb fur!
Twisty, smart, fast pacing thriller that will keep you in your toes! And it seems like we’re gonna see Delilah again in near future for the second installment. Fingers crossed, I hope it will be sooner.
