I liked the conclusion to this and liked the twist. I have been finding it hard to be wowed by a thriller but this one definitely hit the spot

Alex Finlay is an author I have heard quite a bit of praise for but had yet to read anything by. Every Last Fear starts off with a bang, Matt Pine being informed his entire family was murdered while on vacation in Mexico.
The story overall was good but definitely seemed to drag in places. I can't say I really loved any of the characters, either. The story is told in multiple view points, both past and present. Maybe I just didn't try to connect with them because I knew from the start they were dead? The twists were pretty easy to figure out as well but that seems to be the case with most thrillers.
I did enjoy the book and will check out what else the author has currently. I think I would have enjoyed this more if there was a character view I enjoyed more. (I like Maggie but again, we know her fate from the very beginning). While I felt sorry for Matt, I just wasn't intrigued so much by his character. I'd rate this anywhere from 3.5 - 4 stars.

DNF - problematic content regarding stereotypical views of Mexican people. It is extremely upsetting that he would include those themes in his book.

Action packed, riveting, dazzling, twisty and absolutely unputdownable! If you're looking for a thriller that actually thrills from beginning to end, look no further. Every Last Fear is for you!

"They found the bodies on a Tuesday." The Pine family has been through enough with the accusation and conviction of their son, Danny, for the murder of his high school girlfriend. Add to that the Netflix documentary that turned their family into a household name around the globe and you have more than enough pain and trauma to last a lifetime.
But the misfortune for the Pine family keeps coming when the bodies of four of them are found in their vacation rental in Mexico, leaving their son Matt to pick up the pieces. What drove them to Mexico in the first place on a vacation they couldn't afford? Were their deaths a freak accident or was this somehow related to Danny's case and Charlotte's death?
Every Last Fear was full of twists and turns, jumping between Before and After, while giving tiny pieces of the puzzle at a time. I read a lot, though, so I was able to piece some of the plot lines together and had an idea of what happened to the family before the book got there. Taking one star off for that, but either way, I'd recommend this to my friends and fellow readers if you enjoy a thriller/whodunnit.
Thank you to Minotaur Books for the free copy of Every Last Fear in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts above are 100% my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this free ARC! I really should not have taken so long to read this because it's really really good. I really enjoyed the multiple point of views and timelines. There were also some spectacular red herrings and twists that I did not see coming. I honestly zipped through the whole book because I really needed to know what happened. I will definitely be checking out more of the author's books. I did also recommend it as the thriller of the week in the Facebook book group I help manage.

I absolutely lived this book. It was my first book by Alex Finlay it definitely won't be my last. I would give it 4 our of 5 stars.

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for opportunity to read and review this ARC honestly.
I'm not entirely sure why I kept putting off reading this book. I knew I wanted to, it looked good and like the type of book I would enjoy. And it was! The story is pretty quick-paced and interesting and draws you in from the beginning. I enjoyed the characters and the multiple POV chapters. I kept wanting to know what was going on and had trouble putting it down.

A family is grieving over their son’s life prison sentence for a crime which they do not believe he commit. Evan and Maggie continue to research and review evidence to help exonerate Danny. Then everyone in Danny’s family, except for his brother Matt, is found dead in Mexico. Some suspect foul play. The book follows both incidents closely. I enjoyed how it switched viewpoints. I liked following along with the clues myself. A book with a unique storyline that you won’t want to put down.

This book!!!! What a ride! I could not stop reading it. It was well-paced and kept me turning the pages. The characters are (mostly) all likeable. I hate when I can predict the ending to a book, and I did not see this one coming. A quick, riveting read that keeps you reading to see what happens. Very well done!

I read this book seven months ago and never did the review for which I regret. I somehow overlooked it but I'll do the best review I can based on what I remember. Matt is the only member of his immediate family left on this earth due to tragic events. He eventually decides that he has to investigate the deaths of his parents, siblings, and the incarceration of his brother for a murder he was convicted of committing. Sarah Keller is the FBI agent who is at the center of the investigation. The plot was definitely complex but not too difficult and bogged down with superfluous details. But it is a book you want to think about as you read because you'll want to make predictions about what in the world happened and if any of it was truly accidental or what.
I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's for a free e-ARC copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion which I have given.

This story begins with a dead mother, father, son, and daughter who were on vacation in Mexico. It is suspected to be from a gas leak. The story quickly delves into the Pine family and we learn that the oldest son, Danny, was convicted of killing his high school girlfriend. However, a new true crime documentary has compelling information that Danny was forced to confess. Because of all this, the family is basically a pariah that no one wants anything to do with. The second oldest, Matt, does everything in his power to stay under the radar. Matt is away at college when he finds out that his family members are dead. The FBI is working on the case and they do not think that they were killed naturally by a gas leak, so they ask Matt to go to Mexico and get the remains released into their custody. As they get to ready to head to Mexico, Matt gets injured and then they encounter nefarious people all while trying to solve the murder mystery.
This was a total page turner for me and I would recommend it to everyone who loves thrillers and "whodunnits".

This was a decent read but a bit unbelievable in parts. I felt like the characters were a bit flat, but the plot was pretty good.

Matt an NYU student finds out his parents and two younger siblings died in Mexico. The investigators suspect carbon dioxide poisoning, but the FBI suspects foul play. His older brother is in prison for a crime he did not commit. Can Matt prove his brother is innocent, his family was murdered, and that the two events are connected to each other?
This was an excellent read! I couldn’t put it down! I usually don’t enjoy books that alternate between the past and present, but this book did it seamlessly. However, I didn’t care for the screenplay pages added randomly into the story. It didn’t really add to the story. I loved the characters and being able to read their point of perspective. It helped to connect to the characters and added interest to the plot. Being familiar with small-town politics and having visited Tulum, the descriptions are right on. I would highly recommend this book to thriller junkies!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I had really high hopes for this book because I loved the author’a book The Night Shift so much. This book was entertaining but it almost felt like the author tried to do too much by adding extra twists and turns throughout. The story was intriguing but easily predictable. It was hard to suspend disbelief enough to accept that every single misfortune could continue to happen without a single FBI agent catching on and ultimately a teenage girl and her father being the ones to solve the case.

Wow, this book kept me on the edge of my seat. I love the thriller/mystery portion, but also loved how the family drama and relationships were tied in. Highly recommend!!

I enjoyed this book even though some parts were slow to me. This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I will read more. I would definitely recommend this book!

Every Last Fear was thrilling from start to finish! A family murdered while on a getaway to Mexico, a Netflix documentary, and an unsolved murder in a small town had me hooked! I loved all the twists in the story and learning new information from each character’s point of view. Alex Finlay will be an automatic buy for me!

5 stars for this one!!
A college kid discovers his whole family is murdered while in vaca in Mexico! Is it connected to his brother’s conviction? Is it an accident like Mexican authorities say?
Super twisty, super whodunnit, and I loved every minute of the ride.
The perspectives went from Present from the detective and brothers points of view, to the past from all the family members points of view.
So fast, furious and amazing!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Every last fear by Alex Finlay A
Special things to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed this book all thoughts and opinions are my own. Alex Finlay is becoming a favorite mystery/ thriller writer!
Matt Pine is a promising NYU filmmaker whose brother Danny is in jail because he killed his girlfriend. He recently had a falling out with his father because he and his 17-year-old sister Maggie focus all their time and energy on trying to prove that their Danny didn’t kill his girlfriend. When FBI agent Sara Keller appears on his campus and tells him there’s been an accident in Mexico. Both his parents and two siblings are dead because of a gas leak. After going to Danny’s prison to tell him that the family is gone Matt is forced to travel to Mexico to get his family. Once in Mexico things go sideways. He is almost kidnapped, then threaten in a the police station. Once Sara Keller gets him help and gets him out of Mexico back into the United States he heads to Nebraska to bury his family.
Agent Keller learns that there has been foul play in his families death in Mexico.
Could the death of his family members they related to Danny’s murder case? Did his father’s determination to find the real killer of Danny’s girlfriend drag his family into a dangerous place? Could his brother really be innocent? I really loved this book! Couldn’t put it down!
