I would like to thank the author, publisher and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I can't believe this is a debut novel! This was a high speed, fast paced mystery crime novel that left me short of breath and with a spinning head!
This was a great read and I recommend it to all who enjoy crime mystery, especially when you can book-binge in a day!

I need you to stop what you’re doing and add this book to your TBR now! It publishes March 2, 2021 and it is amazing! I was up til all hours finishing it.
The story begins, “They found the bodies on a Tuesday.” From there it’s one twisty, bingeworthy ride through a teen murder, a wrongfully accused brother, a Netflix True Crime docuseries gone wrong, coercion, and the deaths of Matt Pine’s entire family.
Matt is dealing with so much, I loved him and just wanted to hug him.
I adored the FBI agent Keller and her relationship with her husband. Matt’s sister Maggie was such a strong girl. Her story nearly broke my heart.
This book was so well written, I was immersed in it! Do yourself a favor, preorder it, if you love thrillers, true crime, mystery, politics, this book has it all.

This was an unexpected dark and heartbreaking story. Years ago the Pine family was struck with tragedy. Their eldest son was convicted of murdering his girlfriend. Under the pressure of the police young Danny confessed the crime. But afterwards the always swore that he did not do it and only confessed because the police “got in his head”. Danny’s father was always convinced that his son was innocent and dedicated his life to prove it. Matt was very young when this happened but he saw something disturbing that night. Then the unimaginable happens: the whole Pine family, the parents and their two younger children, gets killed while vacationing in Mexico. That leaves Matt all of his own with only a brother whom he barely knows with a life sentence in prison. But soon he learns that the tragic dead of his family maybe wasn’t an accident at all.
I was blown away by this fast paced, complex and tragic story. Right from the beginning you know what happened to the poor family but you are going to relive their last days with them during the book. This is something I find always very heart wrenching. There are many things happening and I never knew where the story was heading to. The characters are all very realistic and have their own voice. I often lose track of who is who when there are many characters in a book but here that never happens because there were all so different and lifelike. I just loved this clever constructed plot. This was one of the best thrillers I’ve read this year and I recommend it highly.

"Every Last Fear" is the first novel written by Alex Finlay, and I can't wait to read more by this excellent author! Matt Pine, a college student, receives the worst news of his life when he finds out that his parents, little brother, and sister have all died in a freak accident during a vacation to Mexico. But things are not what they seem, and Matt is drawn into the mystery of what really happened to his family. And what about his brother, who's in jail, wrongly accused of killing his teenage girlfriend? Tune in to find out!
This was a compelling book full of twists and turns that I would highly recommend to any reader looking for a good mystery. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This was an excellent modern thriller. I appreciated the integration of technology and the story being conveyed through multiple perspectives. I did have the killer figured out fairly early on, but it kept my attention and confirmed my suspicions.

Matt in at collage, when he receives a call notifying him that his parents and little sister and brother were dead. The only person left in his family is his brother Danny who is in prison for killing his ex girlfriend..
After Danny had exhausted his latest appeal his family went to Mexico in hopes of finding evidence to help Danny.. This is where they were murdered. It is now up to Matt to uncover what has happened to his family and save his only living family member. Thanks netgalley

Imagine losing your who family in the blink of an eye, that’s exactly what happen to Matt in Every Last Fear. His whole life crumbled before his eyes. This book is the type of book that keep me enjoying suspense stories. From the first sentence I couldn’t stop reading this book. It will be one of the best books of 2021. I could definitely see this being made in to a movie in the future.
Thanks NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for such a great book and the chance to read it first in exchange for my honest opinion.

Bummer. I read an initial excerpt of this book from a Minotaur Book sampler and was intrigued by the first five-ish chapters of "Every Last Fear."
But this debut mystery was no thrill ride for me. In fact, it was just “meh.”
There were several competing story lines (some based in the past, some in the present day). Plus, a lot of characters to keep track of and no one I was particularly rooting for, including the protagonist, Matt Pine. Also, the pacing was pretty slow for me. One of the reasons is that the author was super specific about certain places and details. For example, all of the info on Nebraska was a bit over-the-top. And I’m staying that as someone who’s originally from Nebraska. LOL.
Based on the advanced praise about the “exciting twists” about this “knife-edged thriller,” I had much higher expectations.

“You have two choices when you’re confronted with your every last fear: Give up or fight like hell.”
After a long night out where he loses all of his possessions, Matt gets back to his down to find out his entire family is dead in a freak accident. Well, all except his brother Danny who has been in jail for years for a crime everyone but Matt is convinced he didn’t do. Matt is used to his family being in the news after the documentary about his brother recently, but this time it’s a question of whether his families deaths were a true accident or not. Will Matt and the assigned dFBI agent Sarah Keller be able to get to the bottom of their deaths?
4.5 stars. I randomly got sent this book a few months ago and was like hmm this one sounds interesting and added it to my maybe pile. Boy am I glad I moved it to my “to read” pile! Alex Finlay came out swinging with this debut! It had me guessing until the very end, which is hard to do anymore, so it automatically gains points from me for that! There were so many different storylines that I didn’t see how everything could come together, but let me tell you, it did! I could totally see this one being a movie. If this book isn’t on your radar, it needs to be! It is out March 2nd!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this advance copy. This book was so good! Every time I had a few spare minutes, I was in it. At work, I'd catch myself wondering where the story was going and trying to figure out who was behind it all. I'm a sucker for the new books that are figuring out ways incorporate the true crime podcast/documentary phenomenon, and this one did it so well!

Every Last Fear by Alex Finlay is a whirlwind of a read! I am finding it extremely difficult to even begin with a premise because there are so many simultaneous plot lines that intertwine. This book is so good, and I suggest diving it without knowing the premise first. Just take a leap! Once you start, you won't be able to stop. Finlay did a wonderful job connecting the dots and bringing everything together in the end. I devoured this read!

Sigh, I tried, I did! The first 1/2 of this book pulled me in and I loved every part of it. Then somewhere along the way, I felt like it went off the rails, and I didn't care anymore. It has a really great premise, and the first 1/2 was killer, but the second 1/2 felt very flat to me.
2/5 Stars

It’s been a rough couple of years for the Pine family. Oldest brother Danny is in jail, accused of killing his girlfriend. A Netflix documentary, where Danny’s father maintains his son’s innocence, has made it impossible for brother Matt to hide in the shadows, even at film school in New York City. When Matt gets the shocking news that his parents and two younger siblings have been murdered on vacation in Mexico, a vacation he wasn’t able to attend, all eyes are back on him. Matt returns to his small hometown in an attempt to uncover what really transpired in Mexico with the help of a devoted FBI agent. This book is told from multiple points of view and jumps back and forth between the present and the past and kept me turning the pages. This is a thoughtful and suspenseful read about family, grief and uncovering secrets. A highly readable and moving thriller about a shattered family. Thank you to Minotaur Books (St. Martin's Press) and NetGalley for the advanced review copy.

After reading this synopsis and seeing all the great reviews it has so far, I was anxious to get a copy. The wait was worth it! I especially love a book that has twists that I don't see coming and this one delivered. Thankful to NetGalley for allowing me to read a copy.

Very strong psychological thriller that had some tricks up its sleeve that I've never seen done before in this genre (and I read a TON of these books.)
This book had a tad more action than I expected as it's both an exploration of an old crime and a quest to survive dangers connected to a new crime. Both crimes were heartbreaking, with motives very carefully revealed at a well-thought out pace. (Though there was A LOT revealed at the end--so many loose ends tied up that it makes your head spin a bit, which can be a problem in some complex thrillers.) However, ultimately I bought what the author was selling. It all made sense in the end, and that's key for me to enjoy this type of book.
I thought the characters were great. Sarah was a bit hard to get to know (and I'm not sure the Marconi family drama added a ton to the story, other than giving us a chance to know/like her) but provided a sturdy center around which the story could unfold. Matt was easier to root for and I very much dug his "Island of Misfit Toys" band of friends and how they were used in the story.
As always with nearly every thriller I read, the title and cover of this book is instantly forgettable. Thankfully the story will likely stick with me longer. This was a 4.5 for me --perhaps the best thriller I read this year.
Thanks to the author and NetGalley for granting me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Matt Pine is an NYU student with a lovable and eclectic group of friends. Matt is going to need those friends. He’s just received tragic news… his entire family has been killed while vacationing in Mexico.
Unfortunately, Matt is no stranger to bad luck in his life. His older brother Danny was convicted of murdering his girlfriend and now behind bars. And Matts’ father has never lost confidence in the belief that Danny is innocent.
It seems like a huge leap of faith to imagine the death of his family could possibly be connected to Danny’s conviction. Right?
This was a fabulous introduction to an author I’m confident we’ll be seeing more of in the future. The characters were all given clear and concise voices. The writing and storyline flowed easily!
Recommend for all thriller lovers!

Every Last Fear by Alex Finlay is an action packed, twisty thriller! Matt Pine is in college, his brother is in jail for murder, and their parents and two other siblings are dead due to a supposed gas leak that occurred while they were vacationing in Mexico. But, all is not as it seems. Is Matt's family's death connected somehow to his brother's murder case? That is the question that Matt and the FBI hope to solve, and Finlay writes an amazing, unputdownable story. I highly recommend this book. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digtal review copy. All opinions are my own.

Alex Finlay's latest book is one of the best books I've read this year. With Matt's older brother Danny in prison for murdering his high school girlfriend, Matt is keeping a low profile majoring in film at NYU. After a pair of aspiring artists make a documentary about Danny's innocence that makes his hometown seem backwards, his family leaves Nebraska behind while his father transfers to a Chicago firm.
Away from his parents and younger sister and brother, Matt focuses on school although very aware that his family is doing all they can to prove Danny's innocence, something Matt isn't entirely sure of. Things escalate when tragedy strikes and Matt must deal with the aftermath.
The plot is suspenseful and the characters genuine, making it easy for readers to connect with the story whether the action is in Manhattan, Nebraska, Chicago or Mexico. Although I figured out the ending as I neared the book's end, I was satisfied with the conclusion.
I received an advanced kindle edition of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review and I feel fortunate to have had this opportunity.

Every Last Fear was one of my most anticipated books of the year! Thank you so much to Alex Finlay and Minotaur Books for this ARC. This book follows Matt, who has been through a lot in his life. His brother is in prison for murder, and to make matters worse, a true crime documentary came out about him, proclaiming his innocence. Then Matt’s whole family goes on a spring break trip to Mexico, and are all found dead. The FBI gets involved, and Matt begins to suspect that the two cases are connected.
Thoughts: I loved the premise of this story. I am obsessed with true crime documentaries and I could imagine this happening in real life. I enjoyed the documentary aspect a lot and found the story to be interesting and richly layered. The contrast between the families’ stories before they died and Matt’s perspective after they died made the story hard to put down. I liked all the connections and really did not see some parts of the story coming. I enjoyed the build up and the ending was satisfying, if not too simple.
The only downside I had to this story was that there were some things that were just not believable. For example, someone tries to murder Matt and he doesn’t tell the police or do anything about it. Things were just tied up a little too nicely in the end, and I prefer there to be some things left to the imagination. That being said, I really enjoyed this thriller and gave it 4-stars.

You have two choices when you’re confronted with your every last fear:
“Give up or fight like hell.”
The real deal here! It has everything required to make a thriller from the very first page. This folks, is a debut novel that explodes on the list of TBR! The story moves fast, strong, and reads like a movie. I recommend this to anyone who likes well-written, character driven and a thriller that makes you think. Chapters alternate between Matt and Sarah, with Matt's family sharing their stories up until their fateful end. As each chapter added another piece to the puzzle, it became more and more apparent that the Pine family never stood a chance. Most of the characters are likeable and had me wondering what I would do. The twists, and POVs kept me on edge and once I started getting closer to the end, my heart was hurting and I just felt terrible for everything. Full of mystery and suspense that will leave you guessing throughout the book. Not to be missed! This will definitely be an author I watch out for in the future and a top read in 2020 for me. Highly recommend! Special thanks to NetGalley for a chance to read this and also Alex Finlay!
