Persuasion is one of my fav Jane Austen stories ; however I really didn’t enjoy this narrator too much . Granted he is an eloquent narrator but I do prefer female narrators for these stories
If I hadn't already seen the recent movie before listening to this, I don't think I would have been able to follow any sort of real plot. It was pretty dry and boring, in all honesty. Not my favorite Austen novel.
Loved it! Excellent narration! I was very familiar with the story by Jane Austen and the book itself has been popular in a few reading groups of mine. I was so excited to get this version to listen to. It did not disappoint! Very entertaining and highly recommended.
Persuasion is my favorite Austen book so given the chance I will grab any copy of it. I was delighted to see this audiobook version, since I know the novel is less popular. It was an interesting choice to go with a male narrator, I didn't hate it, and it gave me a new experience with this old favorite! Definitely give it a listen for something fun and new.
The narration was beautiful. I am in love with the British accent and my favourite by Austen in that voice and narration- such a treat!
Jane Austen has not disappointed. This was the first time. I've read this book, and since it's one of her less popular novels I wasn't sure what to expect. However, I was swiftly drawn into the story and could feel all of Anne's emotions as if they were mine.
I have always thought this was an incredible feat to bring emotion to the reader just by written word. The way Jane Austen writes is excitement enducing and really lures you into the story as if you're a character.
The characters in this book are not my favourites that Jane Austen has created, nevertheless I like them.
Jane Austen was a masterful writer and Persuasion is nothing short of a masterpiece. Though Persuasion is not my favorite Austen, Persuasion still holds its own against the other Austen powerhouse novels. What really stands out for me in this novel are the characters and specific romance tropes that Austen used (or maybe started?) with this story.
Anne Elliot is not Elizabeth Bennett, with her snark and fondness for walking, nor is she Emma Woodhouse, with her perfectly bratty air and badly done jokes. No, Anne Elliott is something else entirely - she is smart and sharp and not at all very eligible for marriage. She is unmarried at 27, putting her well on the way to being an old maid by Regency standards. However, Anne is kind, long-suffering, and tends to think of others before herself. It wouldn't be an Austen novel without a properly swoony hero, and Wentworth definitely serves as that. He is unique against the others, however, in that he is quite rough around the edges, which makes sense given his extended service in the Royal navy.
Just as Pride and Prejudice is classic "enemies to lovers" and Emma is classic "friends to lovers," Persuasion also has its fair share of romance tropes. Here we have second chance romance and a solid amount of Regency miscommunication. I preface the miscommunication as "Regency" miscommunication, because it really does differ from the miscommunication trope in current romance novels, in my opinion. Even if you aren't a fan of miscommunication as a plot point, this is still such a classic novel and is done in a way that I would recommend you give a try.
This new Seasons Edition audiobook is performed by a male narrator, which is quite interesting. It's a new take on the novel and, although I wouldn't have necessarily chosen a male narrator for Austen, I do think that sets this audiobook apart from others. It's likely worth a try if you prefer a male narrator or just like his particular narration style. The physical copies of the Seasons Edition books are gorgeous and I really do recommend those (I own both Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion already, with Sense and Sensibility and Emma preordered). The Seasons Editions are such high quality and have gorgeous laser-cut dust jackets. If you are an Austen or classics collector, please go check them out for yourself!
5/5 for Austen, always.

It has been a while since I got this book and unfortunately I don’t really have any interest in reading the book anymore. I am also now a lot more picky with the books I request and choose to read.
I struggled to get through this book with this narrator. I plan to read this at some point, but will just read a physical copy. Thank you for the opportunity.
A lot of people compare this book to Pride and Prejudice and I can see that comparison, but I think it's unfair to compare the two because they're also so different.
Persuasion follows Anne Eliot who, eight years earlier, was engaged to Frederick Wentworth but breaks it off after she's convinced by a friend that he is unworthy of her. Anne deeply regrets this, and when Wentworth returns from the sea as a successful captain, he discovers Anna and her family on the brink of financial ruin and decides to help them.
Wentworth is such a wonderful love interest -- we all need a Wentworth in our lives. His and Anne's romance is so beautiful and heartbreaking, you will definitely be shedding some tears.
This is such an easy and quick book to read, and the audiobook makes it that much easier. The narrator is male, which surprised me quite a bit, but I still found it quite enjoyable.
Persuasion is simply a masterpiece. This was the last book that Jane Austen finished and was published after her death. It feels like a book that one facing the end of life would write as they reflect - a book with such a depth of feeling. There are moments of deep regret and loss ... for lost love, lost time and choices made. There are moments of desperation to have something more than what you have allowed yourself. And there are moments filled with hope - for love, for life, for the future. It is a book about second chances and the courage to let yourself try again.
Austen was so talented at building characters through their words and actions. She is so good at writing the unlikable characters - and this book is filled with so many whiny, self-absorbed characters that you simply love to hate. From her sister, Mary, who desperately wants to be the center of attention, to be her father's favorite, to her father, who just wants to have it all ... and, darn it, doesn't he deserve to have the best ... Then there is Anne - such a kind and selfless creature who has been told so often that she is undeserving of a life beyond taking care of family that she believes that this is her lot in life. And, finally, Captain Wentworth, who, at first comes across as so arrogant, unfeeling and bitter - until we find that he is hiding such deep feelings of hurt and of love.
This audiobook is very well done and I fully enjoyed listening again to this wonderful novel. I will quote another review that I read about Persuasion - "5 stars for the book, 10 for the letter.".
(NETGALLEY AUDIOBOOK - I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY ADVANCED READER COPY OF THIS BOOK THROUGH NETGALLEY. OPINIONS EXPRESSED IN THIS REVIEW ARE COMPLETELY MY OWN.)
I wanted so desperately to love the reading of this book, but the narrator was so monotonous that I couldn't help but fall asleep over and over. Such a shame since I love the book so much.
Thank you Netgalley for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I found the narrator really engaging and easy to listen to. Persuasion was an interesting story and I enjoyed learning the unravelling of the story. I hope to watch the movie sometime soon!
Thank you for this audiobook version of Persuasion. (I also own one of the new laser-cut hardcover books, and they are incredible.)
Initially, I found the male narrator's voice jarring. I think that's because so many Austen stories are narrated by women. But it didn't take long for me to get accustomed to the narrator and fall into the story. He brings life to Captain Wentworth, and I fell in love.
I love this story for its subtlety. There is this romantic tension boiling just beneath the surface, page after page. I loved Austen's attention to detail. And, even though Persuasion is more somber than her other books, her wit.
Jane Austen is a much talked about Author from the centuries gone by. She till date remains one of the highly revered English authors. Therefore, talking about the plotline won't really befit the circumstance. Coming to the narrator, his narration was really good. The pronunciations were as required for an Austen novel. I also liked how the pace wasn't too slow making it the perfect audiobook to listen to on a cosy afternoon.
NetGalley's new app was a bit glitchy, so it took 4 tries to download this book. I am glad I did, as it was enjoyable to listen to while doing other tasks. Of course, I have read the book several times and have seen every adaptation I can get my hands on, so the story wasn't exactly new.
I wasn't entirely happy to hear a male narrator at first, since this is a story with such strong female characters. The narrator grew on me, though--he voiced characters differently, but not to the point of caricature. I was puzzled that the narrator, the felicitously named Mike Read, opted for some modern and/or not very British pronunciations, such as "chase" for "chaise" and "Captain Ben-wick" instead of "Bennick." But those nitpicks don't get in the way of this masterpiece.
Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for a digital ARC for the purpose of an unbiased review.
Persuasion is such a Jane Austen classic as much as Pride and Prejudice is and I enjoyed listened to this newer audiobook version of it.
Beatiful audiobook and enjoyed reading this book in this format after so many years. The story is a beautiful classic and the narrators brought it so beautifully up to life!! The characters felt alive in this audiobook and totally recommend it!
I really loved this book! I've been a huge Jane Austen fan forever and I finally got around to reading this one. Overall, I think the audiobook was really great. The reader had a very soothing deep voice that was pretty great for easy listening. Sometimes it got kind of monotone and was hard to focus on, but I got by okay. I just liked the story. Persuasion doesn't get enough credit, honestly.
It's hard to say much new about this classic. This is a must read for any fan of Austen and the Regency period.
