This was a hilarious and sexy enemies to lovers romance that was so much fun to read!
WHAT TO EXPECT:
✦Enemies to lovers/ fake relationship trope.
✦Small Town girl trying to make it in the big city.
✦Hero with a past that is unable to open his heart to love.
✦Heroine goes home for her sister's wedding and is trying to keep up the pretense of having the perfect life in the city which includes having an amazing boyfriend.
WHAT I LOVED:
✦Fantastic banter and chemistry!
✦Hero's healthy obsession with the heroine's ass
✦I LOVED Hadley's crazy small town family! From their ridiculous family games to her brothers' taking Will on hunting trips for imaginary animals to Paw Paw's obvious meddling into their love life, they were absolutely hilarious!
✦Absolutely sexy! Will truly wanted to hate Hadley and the war he had with himself because he was so attracted to Hadley was a huge turn on.
✦This was also heartwarming and emotional as Hadley realizes she should have been leaning on her supportive family instead of creating a fake life to impress them.
✦One of the cutest, sweetest epilogues but I won't spoil it for you!

We meet Hadley as the walls of her “perfect” life come off a little bit. It couldn’t be at a worse time, as she is headed home for her sister’s wedding.
She is paired with Will, the evil twin to her best friend. She figures out right away that this isn’t her best friend.
When the story begins, Hadley and Will have known each other for about a year and have had a contentious relationship. I enjoyed seeing them “have to” spend a week together where the layers of misunderstandings between the two peeled away and they finally get to know the real person beneath the assumptions.
The story is made better due to the fact that both characters grow individually. The side plot of Hadley and her family made me want to know the Donovan- Martinez family better. Avery did an excellent job of introducing us to a new set of characters into the “Harbor City” world. Not only are the main characters people you want to root for, the secondary cast is excellent.
I am hoping that we get to read about other characters in the future. I need more paw-paw. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.
This was a really fun story to read. It reminded me why I love contemporary romantic comedy as much as I do. The main female character, Hadley, was an incredibly relatable character for most modern women. She never quite felt like she fit in anywhere, always considered herself a little over weight and never felt desired by any man. At best, she worried that men would use her just to make fun of her. Following her dreams of being a city girl, she left her ranch home in Nebraska to work in the big city of Harbor City. This is where she met the identical twins Web and Will who are filthy rich men running a family empire in the city.
Web is Hadley’s best friend and the evil twin brother, Will, can only see that Hadley must be after his brother for the family money. Seeing as how that’s the only experiences with women he’s had, he projects this onto Hadley and Web’s friendship. But Hadley just enjoys his company and now she’s stuck with the evil twin at a family get-together celebrating her sister’s soon-to-be wedding. Nothing is how it should have turned out and throughout this week long family excursion of pretending to be dating for her family’s sake, something else starts to manifest between them. But they can’t give into it because they’re sworn enemies. Or are they?
A delightful cast of characters, especially Hadley’s quirky country family, had me enjoying every page of family interaction. We all have these kinds of moments in our lives where our family can seem like so much to deal with, but Hadley reminds us that even the craziest of families is only crazy because they all love each other so much.
This was a great read that has me looking into everything else Avery Flynn has written, since this is my first novel of hers. An inspiring writer that brings together an opposites attracts feel and utilizes characters and traits that we all try and ignore about ourselves. This was an easy 5-star rating for me based on my enjoyability of the story and my love for Hadley and Will as a couple that inspires me.
Twin brothers Will and Web have been switching places since they were kids… so when Web gets sick right before leaving to be his best friends plus one at her sisters out of town wedding, it seems like the perfect idea to send his brother Will in his place! Except Will and Hadley have been at each others throats since the day they met… how will they ever pull off the illusion of being a couple if they can’t be in the same room without heated looks and insults?!?!
Miles away from Harbour City, Will agrees to give it his best shot to fool Hadley’s family… as long as she agrees to leave his wealthy brother alone after all of this. Hadley and Will are faced together in different situations allowing the heated looks they share to turn into sparks! Soon this fake relationship isn’t feeling too fake anymore and they wonder if when they return home they can keep this up?
The banter between Will and Hadley was fun to read and the side characters added a lot of flavour to the book! Hadley’s family was unique and made me want to be at the wedding week festivities along side them playing cutthroat Scrabble! I’d love to revisit this cast of characters again to see an HEA for either Will’s brother or one of Hadley’s siblings.
Enemies to lovers, best friends brother, fake relationship… this book is the trifecta of all the best tropes.
Fans of The Hating Game and The Worst Best Man will love this book!
The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn is scheduled to release August 25th, 2020.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Entangled Publishing. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

If you are a fan of Ms Flynn’s Hartigan books, then Wedding Date Disaster is right up your alley!
We meet Hadley - just as the wobbly wheels of her “perfect” life come off a little bit more at the worst time, as she is headed home for her sister’s wedding.
She is paired with Will, the evil twin to her best friend.
When the story begins, Hadley and Will have known each other for about a year and have had a contentious relationship. It was entertaining to see them “have to” spend a week together and have the layers of misunderstandings between the two peeled away and for them to get to know the real person beneath the assumptions.
Both characters have a strong arc of emotional growth on their own which makes their interactions that must sweeter. The side plot of Hadley and her family made me want to know the Donovan- Martinez family better! Ms Flynn did an excellent job of introducing us to a new set of characters into the “Harbor City” world. Not only are the main characters people you want to root for, the secondary cast is excellent.
I am hoping that Wedding Date Disaster is the first book of a new series from Ms Flynn and we get to see some of the secondary characters get their own stories! I need more Pawpaw!
I love a good enemies-to-lovers story and this was a great one! I had so much fun reading The Wedding Date Disaster! It was really entertaining with great characters mixed with a lot of sweet and heat!
I loved the animosity between Will and Hadley. I liked learning their history and what they were going through. These two seemed to be like oil and water but they had some really great banter happening, I loved that verbal sparring. I really liked that simmering sexual tension underneath it all and how it really grew into more! It was smoking hot! Hadley was a sweet person that was going through a lot and I liked her figuring it all out, opening up, and being real. I liked Will though at times I found his one-track mind frustrating. I really enjoyed everything clicking for him and seeing Hadley in a new light.
There are meddling family and friends in the mix that added to the fun. Hadley’s overprotective brothers were a bit over the top but their antics made for some amusing moments. I liked what the secondary characters added to the story and the predicaments that Will and Hadley were in. There were just a lot of great scenes that had me laughing.
This was a delightful read. It’s one of those stories that had me smiling all the way through because of the witty banter and antics, the hotness, and the way these Hadley and Will fell in love. If you are in need of some sexy outrageous fun, look no further!
This is a hilarious enemies to lovers romcom that had me laughing all the way through reading it.
Hadley Donavan is going home for her sister's wedding but isn't looking forward to it. She's convinced her best friend to go along as her plus one, even though they'd never really dream of being anything other than besties. However, that bestie has a secret, dastardly plan of his own that neither Hadley, nor his twin brother, are aware of . . . . he fakes being ill and convinces his brother to go instead. This doesn't sound much of a problem until you realise that Will believes that Hadley is a gold digger out to marry his brother for monetary reasons. He doesn't trust her and never has, their interactions always have sparks flying so how will a week together work out? Will they end their feuding or will their sparks cause a fire to force them apart or bring them together?
This is such a fun read, what with car sickness, Hadley's secrets and her brothers, Will learning jobs on the ranch, an absent groom and fantastic PawPaw! Will is determined to sign them up for everything and the heat just keeps on rising. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this though there is some heartbreak when you learn about Hadley's Dad. There's plenty of fun and games in this hilarious rom com and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it!
The Wedding Date Disaster is a sweet romance between Billionaire Will Holt and down to earth country girl Hadley Donovan. It all begins with a set up by Hadley’s BFF (Will’s twin!) as she heads home for her sister’s wedding day. You go on a journey with these two...from hate to love and back again!
I so love the world that Avery Flynn has created with Harbor City and all of its residents!
This is the story of Hadley and Will.
This is a story about assumptions and how pride goes before a fall. And with classic Ms. Flynn flair, this story is about family and love.
Hadley's motto is "fake it till you make it" and that has been a blessing and a curse. She wants more and will fight to get what she wants.
Will is the "older" brother to his twin Web and he takes that title seriously, even to the detriment to his brother and himself. He makes assumptions and jumps to conclusions that made me want to shake him! But underneath all that, his heart wants Hadley and he fights it hard.
The secondary characters (Hadley's family) are absolutely fantastic! They are funny and loving and bring humor and heart to the story.
This is a fast-paced story with fantastic dialogue, white-hot chemistry, and lots of laughs!! Cowboy up and get your hands on this!
As some of you might know, either from my blog or from here on The Nerd Daily, I’m new to the whole romance genre. I started getting into it about a year ago and I still have much to learn on what makes a romance novel a good one, but I am not new to the world of rom-coms on the big screen. I know what I look for in a great movie and Avery Flynn’s latest novel, The Wedding Date Disaster delivered. It was funny, well-written, and the two main characters played off one another with all the heat and fire, worthy of an enemies to lovers trope promised in this book. This was the first book I’ve ever read by her, but I definitely think I’ll be checking out her other books just based off her incredible writing.
The romance is HOT, HOT, HOT in here. This has probably been my most vivid and graphic romance novel to date, which definitely came off as an unexpected surprise from a rom-com. There is absolutely no denying the fact that Will Holt is definitely an ass man. There are many instances where he appreciates a well fitted bottom... that’s all I’ll say about that one. But for romance fans out there, this is definitely one that has steamy scenes and graphic depictions. This is not complaint either for those of you reading this, this merely serves as a warning for those who might not be ready to dive into something so hot and heavy like this one.
I will note that although having similar names is something that is somewhat common amongst identical twins or even siblings, Web and Will was just too hard to keep straight. I don’t know if it’s because they both happen to start with the same letter or that they’re both short names to begin with, but for some reason I kept getting confused as to who was talking or who they were talking about because descriptions were useless (because hello they’re twins!). Although their personalities were slightly different and Hadley’s reactions to each of them were on opposite ends, it was hard if you forgot who she was talking about. This is especially the case when she already told her family that it would be “Web” joining her as her date for her sister’s wedding. Will does correct them early and quite often when the mistake is made, but if you aren’t closely following the plot, you might become confused and a little lost. This rom-com definitely needs your undivided attention and when you give it, you see this amazing chemistry come to life for the two leads, Will and Hadley and you won’t be disappointed.
“Hadley Donovan was going to murder her best friend’s evil twin brother. Okay, not really murder, but there wasn’t a jury who would convict her if she did. The man was just that awful. Too full of himself. Too obviously hot. Too rich. Too everything that gave the city’s most eligible billionaire bachelor Will Holt an ego the size of Toledo and a hard-on for purposefully ruining Hadley’s day every time he spotted her. Well, not today, Satan.”
I found Hadley’s hatred of Will a little strong for how few reasons she had behind those said feelings. You could tell she hated him with every fibre of her being, but as I read, I was confused as to why she hated him that much. He didn’t seem to play the villain that she makes him out to be. I liked the conflict between the two I just wish there was a little more substance to get me on Hadley’s side. I couldn’t see where she was coming from enough to understand her, especially in the beginning. It’s revealed that he sees her as only a gold digger (this isn’t much of a spoiler as it is said early on) who is only out for his brother’s money, which we learn from Will’s perspective. Yes this would make me understand where Hadley was coming from, but he didn’t tell her that that was why he hated her until after Flynn established the enemies plot between Hadley and Will. I think some reordering of the story could have been beneficial where Hadley actually mentions that he calls her a gold digger or something, that way Hadley’s severe dislike of Will makes sense when she describes how much she loathes him. She lays it on a little too thick to put it simply. This might have been a case of tell rather than show the reader in order to establish the relationship between the two main characters, but something so strongly negative I think a scene would have set the tone a bit more realistically for the story. Her hatred for Will started long before he got her fired after their awkward make-out scene in a certain coat closet at a business event.
“This wasn’t Web. It was Will. She stopped breathing, the world stopped spinning, and every one of the forty bazillion people in the crowded airport disappeared. It couldn’t. They wouldn’t. Holy fuck, her stomach was knotting up at the realization that she was now in hell.”
All that being said, I found Hadley’s voice exceptional. She has personality and it leaps off the page with a self-deprecating humour, which matched the theme of an enemies-to-lovers story perfectly. Her hilarious observations and witty comebacks went toe to toe with Will’s that produced a balanced pairing, which is paramount to making a great rom-com. This produced fiery dialogue and spontaneous bursts of out of character scenes just to prove themselves right and the other wrong. There’s no mistaking the passion these two have and the lengths they go to deny it.
“Shoving the unease down with an extra dose of forced confidence, he strutted over to the bull. He put one foot in the stirrup and pulled himself up, then threw one leg over to the other side. Fucking A, he’d lost the plot. He was supposed to be destroying Hadley’s plan to fleece his brother, not riding a motorized cow.”
Most novels seem to choose the woman’s perspective, especially in romance novels, but I was glad to see Will’s voice so direct and candid. He was a simple beast to understand, but for Hadley he was the most complicated person on the planet and it was her hatred of him that blinded her which I believe is the reason this pairing worked so well on the page. You were privy to their feelings and their vulnerabilities that for obvious reasons the other character was oblivious too. It made it dramatic and binge-worthy. I read this book in two days and for me that’s almost setting a record. Incredible novel!
Something I especially love with stories set in the modern world, especially for romantic comedies like this one, is how much further the story really goes. On the surface you might just see two people who loathe one and another and are one step from murdering each other but then you see that there’s a lot more to it than that. One reason I love romance novels is the depth in which the characters explore themselves and how others make them open up. There’s tons of character development to be seen and to me that’s a hidden gem that the romance genre has nailed (no pun intended). It’s an unexpected surprise to these beautiful love stories and it makes it so much more satisfying when finished. The Wedding Date Disaster had me falling in love will all of its characters and their stories which to me is a sign of a great book. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves romantic comedies because it was a great love story from start to finish!
Hadley and The Evil Twin were hilarious. The banter kept me sucked into this book so much that I couldn’t put it down.
Will was definitely damaged and more than once I would have liked to knock him upside the head but I loved how he obviously loved his brother. Hadley was amazing in her take no crap from anyone but especially Will attitude. She kept me laughing through most of this book.
I am going to need Web’s story in my life. He’s too nosy and scheming not to get his own HEA!
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Enigmatic and quirky characters, great family fun mixed with surprising depth of emotion. Plans don’t always work out as planned, especially when the heart gets involved.
A great read that I could not put down.
When Hadley Donovan moved away from nowhere Nebraska, she knew she wanted to fulfill her dream to have her own consulting business. Now that she’s in the big city, things aren’t working out for her. She’s trying as hard as she can at her job, but it isn’t working out as she planned. Then she gets fired and her dreams are shattered. The biggest problem is her sister is getting married back home, and her bestie, Web is going to be her wingman from the craziness that is her family. Hadley has also been lying a little to them, telling them how wonderful her life is.
Arriving in Nebraska earlier than Web is not a big deal she just has to wait a few hours for his flight. However, when the plane lands, it’s not Web that she sees, but his evil twin brother Will. How can she tell from a distance, Web has a small mole on his face, also Will and her hate each other. Apparently Web is sick and sent Will in his place. How are they going to fool anyone if all they ever do is argue.
Will is convinced that Hadley is out for Web’s inheritance so she can start her business, this is why he insisted on coming in his place. He will do anything in his power to make sure to ruin all her plans in Nebraska. They make a truce for the sake of her sister and start the five hour drive to her home. Problem is Will gets carsick, and Web knew this, so obviously he’s going to kill him when he returns home!
Hadley knew this week with her family was going to be testing. What she wasn’t planning was Will volunteering for every game and activity her family planned. She’s really going to kill him when they fly back home. Then something miraculous happens, they start having fun and actually getting along. Now all Hadley can think of is getting back to their cabin and stripping him! Who knew that they had chemistry.
Is this all pretend, or is Will really falling for her?
This was such a funny and enjoyable book to read!
The story is written in Avery Flynn’s typically hilarious flavor. Hadley needs a date for her sister’s wedding. What she does not want that person to be is Will. From beginning to end you will be laughing at the antics of these two. You will also love Hadley’s maddening family as thy play their version of family game time. Will’s twin gets in on the action as the instigator of getting these two together. The ending of the story is extremely magnificent.
The Wedding Date Disaster by AveryFylnn
Contemporary romantic comedy. Enemies to lovers. Stand-alone.
Hadley and Will couldn’t stand each other. Right? Maybe? Will is sure she’s a gold digger trying to get money from his twin brother Web. Hadley doesn’t understand what she did to set Will against her but she’ll just stay out of his way. But fate and Web have other plans.
A fantastic and sexy hot romance. Fun and sizzling, engaging and satisfying.
Life isn’t perfect, but this romance comes pretty close.
All the feels from the heroine and hero at odds, working things out, to flames running hot.
The family dynamics add to the emotional fulfillment.
Excerpt:
“Adalyn hopped up from her bed at the same time that Hadley bounded up from the chair, and they met in the middle of the room and hugged in one of those mind-meld events that only sisters could have when you said about a million things without uttering a single word.”
Excerpt from The Wedding Date Disaster.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to share.
This was my first Avery Flynn book. I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful cover, and the synopsis sounded really fun. This book was sexy with some fun moments and a great setting, but overall it fell a bit flat for me.
I liked the premise of the book: Hadley was making a rare trip home to the family ranch for her sister’s wedding and needed a buffer from all the family togetherness she knew she was in for. She asked her best friend Web to go with her, but instead she got his ‘evil twin’ - and her arch nemesis - Will. The pair disliked each other from their first meeting and that hatred only grew over the next year. Will made up his mind from the beginning that Hadley was a gold digger with her sights on his brother, and he was determined to put an end to her supposed scheming.
While the concept was fun and there were some great moments throughout, it was the characters that kept me from loving this book. They felt really flat to me with very little depth, personality, or growth. I liked Hadley well enough, but it was more than halfway through the book before we learned anything real about her. It did make me sympathize with her and connect to her a bit more, but by that point it felt like too little too late. I didn’t like Will at all. He was a pompous, judgemental asshole, and he treated Hadley like crap for most of the book. His whole mission was basically to prove Hadley was a gold digger...while also sleeping with her every chance he got. The story was very repetitive at times because most of Will’s thoughts centred around how Hadley was a gold digger and he needed to keep her away from his brother.
I feel like if there had been a bit more build up in the beginning, the pacing would have been stronger. The story launched right in, we were told all these things, including the fact that Hadley and Web were best friends, and yet we barely saw them together or learned how they became so close.
Overall, this book was fun and playful, with some entertaining shenanigans, and while it wasn’t a favourite for me, I’m sure it’ll be a winner for many other romcom lovers.
The Wedding Date Disaster has the type of storyline, characters, and humor one can expect when reading something by Flynn. A story that will have you laughing out loud and leave you giggling with each page you read. The chemistry is electric and the banter is witty and flows naturally. Once you add in the secondary characters, you get a lovely romantic read.
Enemies, twin switch and a country wedding.
Will and Web are identical twins.
Web is BFs with Hadley.
Will hates Hadley. Will thinks Hadley is after his brother Web (but really he's jealous).
So, Will hates Hadley. Will's ex gets Hadley fired.
And then Will switches with Web to be Hadley's date for a week long country wedding.
Let the games begin.
What I liked?
Hadley is cool, fun and you want to hang out with her.
Things that make you go hmmm...
Will brings up how an ex looked while she was having sex (very uncool).
How arrogant and suspicious he is..
It's Will's ex who gets Hadley fired. How many other women do we need to know Will has been with? Icky.
What I liked?
The fun and shenanigans at the wedding (and on the way to the wedding).
This really is an enemies to hate F, then lovers book, so be prepared.
Recommend,
You can't ask for a better friends-to-lovers romance! The hot and heavy bickering, the smoldering looks, the irresistible pull - Avery's writing drew me in from the very first scene.
From Hadley's struggles making it in the big smoke to Will's tragic upbringing, you couldn't help but feel for these two characters. Both too caught up in their own struggles to see what's right in front of them they take all their anger out on each other and it is explosive!
I adored the way their friends and family interfered and could see right through them. This book was the perfect blend of snark, fun, heartbreak, and melt-the-pages sexy! Would highly recommend!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, given to me by the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Will Holt is a take charge kind of guy. CEO of his family’s billion dollar company, sexy, and single by choice. He does not trust women - all women, including his grandmother who had a hand in raising him after both his parents died and his twin brother’s best friend, Hadley. He’s convinced she’s a gold digger, out to get his brother’s money and treats her accordingly.
Hadley Donavan is holding on by a thread. She’s a country girl with big city dreams and will do and suffer anything to make something of herself. Finding her place in Harbor City is not easy and she finds herself hiding behind a happy facade in order to not show how hard life really is. Web Holt is a dear friend and helps make her dreary existence better. Unfortunately, Will, his twin brother, makes her life more difficult.
The sparks fly whenever Will and Hadley interact and try as he might, to deny his true feelings, Will is screwed. But denial and an unhealthy dose of stupidity has him firmly believing the worst in Hadley, even though his attraction to her is a living, breathing thing. For her part Hadley wants nothing to do with the “evil Holt brother” and so what if he makes her knees weak and her heart race. It.Means.Nothing.
In what has got to be my favorite enemies to lovers scenario, Will and Hadley, fall slowly, maddeningly, sexily in love and although the journey to their happily ever after is nerve wracking, it is very, very sweet. TBR and Enjoy!
Oh and Avery, please tell me sexy Web gets his book next?!
