I thought this was a gorgeously written book of poems. I would highly recommend it to people just getting into poetry. So much of this book has resonated with me.
This was a really solid poetry collections! Lots of modern day poetry are all very alike but this collection had its own uniqueness. You could tell it was from the pov of a husband writing about his wife, life and himself.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
A booktiful love is an evocative collection of heartfelt poetry that is centred around the world we live in today.
I could relate to so many of the poems in this book and loved the passion you could feel pressed between the pages of poems written in this book. This is one of the best books of poetry I have read this year!
A Beautiful Love is a beautiful collection of poetries. These poetries conquers a myriad of emotions and sentiments. They dwell on various topics, falling into various places, capturing every emotion in its raw and purest form. The language is simple and easy, but they carry a much larger significance.
The poems from part one are good. I connected with some of them more than others. I really appreciated the topics that were being covered especially in regards to being in isolation, racism, etc. There was one poem that alluded to things going on right now pertaining to the Black Lives Matter movement and how Instagram and other social media platforms were viewing it more as a trend than the human right issue that it actually is. There was a lot of mention of politics and how they fear the term revolution. Everything in this collection of poetry was there for a reason, shared a deep personal point that is crucial to understand in today's world.
I usually read more floral and lyrical type poetry so this style is definitely new to me. I think more than the words which I find quite powerful, the way that the poems are formatted are a bit off putting to me personally. I understand that's a stylistic choice, but it makes it difficult to continue the flow and rhythm of the poem. From an analytical perspective the abrasiveness of the formatting goes hand in hand with the topics mentioned so I do understand where the author was coming from.
There was one poem titled Beauty & Brains and I absolutely adored that poem. It was the embodiment of the strength of a woman and it was perfect. Then, the next poem was going well until the last line said she was my prize and that was a little off putting, at least for me as a woman. It's a term that I know I would not like to be called and I would think that other women would agree.
All in all, I liked some of the poems, didn't like others. However, the important thing I got from reading this was to understand Black voices, stay educated on the matters of the world, stand up for what is right, not what's easy. I highly recommend picking this up because it just gives amazing insight and information on the emotions behind these topics from the perspective of a Black man.
