I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Scoundrel’s Vengeance by Sky Purington
Clan wars and Alliances are how most of the Scottish were able to keep their people fed and clothed!
Laird Keenan MacLaughlin needs funds to sustain His clan because the war, illness, and raids from other clans have decimated their resources while he was gone! So, he decided to make a pact with his brothers Malcolm, and Teagan that the only way to bolster up their declining issues was to MARRY into other clans and make alliances. Keenan decided he was going to go for the granddaddy of all clans, the Campbells! However, he needs help to gain favor and he decided he is going to coherce his ex-girlfriend Fiona Taylor who is now the Chieftain of Clan Taylor their enemy! Now the sparks are going to fly because they both think the other has betrayed each other in the past!
The book gets dramatic from this point forward and you will not believe the twists and turns the author has in store for your enjoyment!!!! It’s like going to a maze and your down one turn and nope that’s not what you thought!! The author has done a wonderful job with keeping the characters flowing and you don’t get confused with what clan who belongs to who! I have to admit that this is truly one book that I truly kept everyone straight without using a cheat sheet! I usually use a notepad and write down each person and clans but she kept them straight from the beginning!
This is a book worth purchasing to read!!!!
I received a advanced copy from NetGalley and I willingly give my thoughts and opinions!
Keenan returns home from wars that have hardened and changed him. He's determined to forge an alliance with a nearby clan through marriage, no matter the cost. Even if it means losing the true love of his life. Fionna is her clan's laird and has guarded her people in difficult times. But she cannot guard her heart from Keenan - or her secrets.
This is honestly the best Highlander romance novella I've ever read. When I dive into something of this length, I expect backstory and character development to be sacrificed for the plot. That didn't happen here. Keenan and Fionna were so lovely together, but if I'm honest...it was Neil who really stole the show. What a fantastic supporting character.
Scoundrel's Vengeance is the 1st book in the Highlander's Pact series. Keenan and his two brothers make a pact to marry for dowries rather than for love in order to restore their clan's pride and gain alliances.
Fionna, laird of Clan Taylor, is summoned by her past love Keenan, after he has captured two of her clansmen. He demands that Fionna help him get engaged to her best friend (under the threat of killing her clansmen). Left with little choice, she gives in. From there, the story picks up. Keenan and Fionna's relationship is rekindled from enemies to lovers, with a past secret revealed in the end!
Overall, a very good historical romance. I will definitely read the next two books in the series!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC for my honest review.
Keenan and his brothers have returned from war to find their clan, among others in the highlands has been devastated by sickness. The only way to strengthen them back up is to marry to gain allies and money. Old enemies could be the key to that happening. The brothers all make a pact to do their part.
Fionna took over leadership of her clan when her father died. It's not easy to provide for all those who need her.
This is an exciting story of second chances and secrets. Our characters have to put the welfare of their clans before anything else. There is a lot of danger about.
Great fun.
