I have read all three books in this series and enjoyed all of them. Her Secret Song is the third book in Mary Connealy’s Brides of Hope Mountain. This series is about three sisters who have lived isolated from people on top of a mountain. Their parents left one day to go down the mountain and never returned. They were raised by their grandparents and the grandmother taught them that if they went down the mountain to where people were, they would surely die. Now the grandparents have died….. Book three is about the oldest daughter, Ursula who has lived in fear her whole life. Fear of people and catching a fatal disease. Alone and living in a cave she decides to venture down the mountain or die all alone. As she begins her trek down the mountain she finds a near dead man, so she drags him back up to her cave…….Thus begins one of the most interesting reads ever. My thanks to the publisher for this copy and I am most happy to leave my review.
To be honest it took a bit for me to get into this story and actually enjoy reading it. I’m truly glad I stuck with it! Ursula, Jo and Ilsa were sisters who were raised in a mountain by their grandparents after their parents did not return home. It was a hard life, especially for Ursula, who gave into her many fears and became a loner. That is until she met Jake. What a heartwarming story in the midst of ranching and bad guys. I loved it!
(4.5 stars) - "Durnedest gunfight I’ve ever been in.”
Book 3 of the Hope Mountain series brings us to Ursula's long-awaited redemption. Her fear led her to hide away from her sisters & the Warden family, but being alone all winter has driven her to attempt to climb down the cliff side of the mountain. Maybe. She's still wrestling with her fear & doubts when she comes across a very injured Wax Mosby.
Wax thinks she's an angel come to take him to heaven. And in a way she is, as Ursula realizes that God has brought her to this man to help save him, & so she does. The two of them find they have much that draws them together both mentally & spiritually.
With the spring thaw opening the mountain pass, the final battle with Pike is at hand at last. While the gunfight has all the dramatic tension one would expect, it's also an unusual & rather entertaining one.
The epilogue of the story & series wraps up all the loose ends, & though the timing of 2 things is overly pat, it's thoroughly satisfying. This is absolutely the best series Connealy has done yet, and one of my most favorite!
*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic
*Religion: overtly Christian, not preachy, Ursula's innocent confusion about salvation & the Bible is thought-provoking but not irreverent
I had read the first two books in this series and I really wanted to read this book. I knew that Ursula deserved her own book. I was super excited to find I liked it as much as I had hoped. Her Secret Song is the third book in Mary Connealy’s Brides of Hope Mountain. This series features three sisters who have lived isolated from people on top of a mountain all of their lives. Her Secret Song is about Ursula, the oldest sister and Wax, Jake, Mosby.
Ursula had lived in fear her whole life. But one day she decides to venture down the mountain and there she finds Wax Mosby, a man who has caused her family much harm. However she does not know who this man is or what he has done. She cares for him and as she tends his wounds, she finds the one thing she had been looking for the past winter. She never realized how much she had isolated herself until she started to care for Jake.
I really wanted to read about Ursula because I felt like there was more to her then just portrayed in the first two books. She was scared of the outside world, but she was also kind and she truly loved her sisters. I loved reading about her relationship with Jake, they were sweet. Ursula found courage while caring for Jake.
I really liked Jake. He had hardened himself to the world but he knew that he needed to do something different with his life, helping people instead of hurting them. He was so cute with Ursula, he wanted her to see the best side of him.
This book was really good and I loved the way everything wrapped up. I couldn’t put it down and it held my interest the whole time. I felt like it had a good pace and I would definitely recommend it. I think that Her Secret Song was my favorite book in the series!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Where to begin? I'm just not sure! Just when I thought Mary Connealy could not write a better story, she totally outdid herself! The final installment of the Brides of Hope Mountain series is definitely not a story to be missed and is probably my favorite of the three. With tough-as-nails characters and a mountain setting, the bad guys are no match for what they've brought on themselves.
I highly recommend this story for lovers of Christian western fiction and happily-ever-after.

Taking a Chance!
Ursula, who was raised by her grandparents isolated in the mountains, has come face to face with a battered and bruised man, Wax, who needs her help to survive. Tired of her hermit ways, she decides to nurse him back to health. Just as Wax improves, her two sisters with their husbands show up. They insist they must go to the lowlands to protect themselves from killers and thieves--despite being outnumbered and out gunned. Except Ursula has never been off the mountain, and she was told all her life she would die if she left.
So begins an exciting yarn set in the 1870's. There will be the plans of two different bad guys that need to be overcome, hilarious miscommunications and situations between the men and the mountain women, along with an exciting showdown. Different threads from many circumstances end up coming together for an exciting finale. Murder and robbery, along with talk of God's love and angel's songs pepper the pages! This rousing tale will keep you glued to it until the end of the story.
This is the third installment in a series, but can be understood by itself. But do yourself a favor, and read the other two for pure enjoyment. I highly recommend this 5-star book to those who like clean, exciting stories with a dash of humor and romance.
Tickmenot was given a copy for review. Opinions are my own.

I am reviewing a copy of Her Secret Song through Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley:
Ursula Nordegren realizes she must overcome her fears of the outside world and begins a trek down Hope Mountain, after a rough winter spent alone on the mountain. On her way she finds a badly wounded stranger making her realize God may have used her decision to save a badly injured man.
Wax Wosby was climbing Hope Mountain in part to atone for the terrible choices he had made. He had been hired to drive out the Warden Family, but he was duped. When he was wounded during the climb he does not expect to be rescued by a beautiful blonde woman with the voice of an angel.
As Wax and Ursula weigh the cost of living new lives, they find an unlikely bond. And they're joined by Ursula's sisters and the Warden family as the final showdown over the family ranch looms with the coming of spring.
If you are a fan of Historical fiction, you will love Her Secret Song.
I give Her Secret Song five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
This is definitely my favorite book in the series! I loved it! I love Mary Connealy’s sense of humor. I also enjoyed Ursula facing her fears and branching out to try new things. I enjoyed getting to know Wax better and his redemption. I really liked the way this series wrapped up and ended. This is a series that I could see myself reading again!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
The satisfying conclusion to The Brides of Hope Mountain.
Ursula Nordegren is the eldest of the sisters, she has chosen to live alone deep in the mountains over the winter, which has given her the time to hone her skills and realize that she can't hide from the outside world forever.
Wax Mosby regrets his mistakes of becoming a hired gun for a less than honest man. On his way to warn the Warden family he finds himself injured and is rescued by a beautiful woman with a golden voice.
An engaging read, with Mary Connealy's trademark humor and fast paced adventure. I loved revisiting Hope Mountain and all the sisters, and their spouses. This was a satisfying conclusion to the series, and I would definitely recommend reading the books in order to get the most out of it.
Ursula is a capable young woman, the oldest of the sisters, she was also the most influenced by her grandmother's fears. I loved how Wax isn't quick to judge Ursula, and comes to admired her strength and abilities.
Overall, a fun read, with some humorous misunderstandings and memorable characters. I liked the strong themes of second chances, facing fears, and standing up for what is right. A must read, if you enjoyed the previous books in the series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Mary Connealy does not disappoint with her latest offering "Her Secret Song" (Brides of Hope Mountain #3). Ursula Nordegren has not ventured down the mountain, but when her sisters Ilsa and Jo are cut off by a blocked pass, she must take that chance. That's when she meets Wax Mosby who is wounded. What follows is a story that will make you laugh, love, and cheer as our cast join forces to ward off a common enemy. This is the perfect ending for this series.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley and was not required to write a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
Ursula's story is one of fear, hope, and reconciliation. She's a strong mountain woman, which I love, who steps out on faith and follows God's call down the mountain. The story moves on to her pouring grace over a man she finds injured and coming down the mountain to find her life. There are scenes worthy of an old western as the good folks fight off the bad. Her Secret Song is book 3 in the series Brides of Hope Mountain. I have not read books 1 or 2, but the author reflects enough on Ursula's sisters' stories from the previous books to pick up the thread. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Her Secret Song was written by Mary Connealy. It is book three in the Brides of Hope Mountain series. This can be read as a stand alone book, but you will get more out of it if you read the entire series.
Summary: Ursula Nordegren’s fears have controlled her life for too long. They have driven her to live an isolated life in the mountains, and even propelled her to abandon her sister when she was needed the most.
Can Ursula get past the fears so deeply ingrained in her? And what will happen when the things she fears most find her?
Wax Mosby likes to think of himself as a man of honor. But lately, he isn’t proud of the choices he’s made. Now he knows he must apologize to the Warden family for the wrongs he’s done them-but what if it’s too late?
My Thoughts: I liked this book. I thought it was a fitting end to the series. I have enjoyed reading about the quirky sisters and their adventures, and this book was no exception.
If you like stories about the frontier west with some romance thrown in, this book is a good choice.
I would like to thank Bethany House Publishers for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!
I enjoyed Ursula's story. She was most opposed to people from the outside world probably because she'd been in charge of keeping her sisters safe for so long. it was fun to see her stretched outside of her comfort zone. I loved the interactions between her and Wax. He understands her and appreciates her for the strong woman she is.
My favorite part was the fight at the end. I loved seeing the sisters take center stage and using their unusual skills. Mitch seems to get it best. "My wife is an uncommonly dangerous woman" (location 2269). It was delightful and entertaining. I'd highly recommend it.
Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
The stunning word visuals are so descriptive in Her Secret Song that readers can experience the frigid and treacherous mountains in the comfort of their own homes. Mary Connealy crafts a satisfying conclusion to the Hope Mountain set where storylines with surprises and twists delight readers.
Fiercely independent yet lonely Ursula, oldest Nordegren sister, finally learns that interdependence is the best way to live and love. We never know how truly alone we are until confronted with complete solitude. All members of the Nordegren-Warden family plus additional reinforcements must join the fight to save life and land against at least two groups of vicious, evil men.
Connealy beautifully crafts an historical world full of bravery and danger from elements, environment and harsh people. She also creates strong characters, both male and female, while filling her fictional tale with current life lessons.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
After a rough winter spent alone, Ursula Nordegren realizes she must overcome her fears of the outside world and begins a trek down Hope Mountain. Along the way she finds a badly wounded stranger and realizes God may have used her decision to leave as a way of saving the man.
Wax Mosby was climbing Hope Mountain in part to atone for his terrible choices. He was hired to drive out the Warden family and now knows he was duped. But when he's wounded during the climb, the last person he expects to rescue him is a beautiful blond woman with the voice of an angel.
As both Ursula and Wax weigh the costs of living new lives, the two find an unlikely bond. And they're joined by Ursula's sisters and the Warden family as the final showdown over the family ranch looms with the coming of spring.
This is a great ending to this series. I wasn't sure I was going to care for Ursula before the I started to read this book. Her character was brought to life and explained in a way that I had to like her and want her to have a good life. Who would have thought that it would be with Wax Mosby! You really need to read the other two books in the series to find out why Wax is not someone you would have thought would have changed his ways. It just goes to show what God can do when he gets a hold of you.
I was given this book Bethany House Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
A happy conclusion with all the loose ends tied neatly in a bow for fans of Brides of Hope Mountain by Mary Connealy.
Oldest Nodegren sister Ursula finally gets her story and readers have the chance to see what makes her tick. Overcoming fears is a huge theme in this novel and Ursula has fears in spades. After a long winter isolated alone in her stone house carved into the mountain, she ventures out – curious about the world that has enticed her two youngest sisters away. On her way to the edge of the mountain she discovers an injured man and her fears can be put to rest – at least for a while.
Wax Mosby is a man in need of forgiveness. In need of a change and boy does he get it! When the spring thaw starts to come, Wax decides to climb the mountain to find the family his boss wants to run off the land. What he didn’t see coming was the mysterious gunslingers riding into the ranch he just vacated. A gun fight leaves Wax injured, precariously hanging from the side of the mountain.
Ursula and Wax’s story is a beautiful story of rescuing each other. Their worlds are so different, yet both of them struggle with fears the other can relate to.
Our happy couples from books one and two reappear and married life seems to suit each of them well. As all join forces for the ultimate battle, strength lies in numbers – but also in the silence of the Nodregren women.
An epilogue ties the series together and answers the one question the girls had been searching for: whatever happened to their parents when they left the mountain?
This book could be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading the first two books before enjoying the final instalment.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
Whenever you open a Mary Connealy book, you should know to expect adventure, a few laughs, a little chaos, and ultimately two people who find out that they complete each other, even though the path might not be easy.
Her Secret Song is the final book in The Brides of Hope Mountain series. The series begins with three sisters who live completely cut off from the world on their mountain home- never having seen any other people besides their grandparents. But they’ve been invaded by the Warden family and the trouble that follows them. Both of Ursula’s sisters have gone and married the two Warden brothers, and as the most fearful of the outside world, she’s isolated herself on the far side of the mountain to be alone, trying to recapture life as it was. But she didn’t count on the snow cutting her off from them completely for the entire winter or the heavy weight of loneliness she couldn’t have anticipated. Fearful she’s about to lose her mind, Ursula finally talks herself into finding a way down the mountain since the pass to where her sisters are is still closed. Not too far down, she’s shocked to find a severely injured man, and realizes his only hope for survival is if she can bring him back up with her.
Jacob “Wax” Mosby has been a gun for hire since he was a teenager. But his last employer has turned him off to the business for good, ordering the shooting of the older Mr Warden and trying to steal the property that rightfully belongs to the Wardens. Wax is a changed man, having returned to the faith of his youth through the ordeal. Not the one to take the shot, but having been there, Wax feels the need to find forgiveness with the Wardens and to help make things right if he can. He didn’t count on being shot and rolling a good ways down the mountain in his way! He’s pretty sure he’s in Heaven when a beautiful angel with a beautiful singing voice finds him... but Heaven isn’t supposed to hurt so bad.
No longer alone, Ursula talks herself out of her hermit lifestyle long before her sisters make it through the pass. Their surprise is complete when they discover she’s not alone and harboring a man they all thought was the enemy. But Jake doesn’t want to be the enemy. He wants to be a new man. A new man in the process of falling in love with the angel of Hope Mountain.
When I heard that Wax Mosby was going to be the hero in this story I was super skeptical. I mean, he’s been the face of the enemy since we know far more about him than his boss. But Connealy teaches us not to judge a book by its cover! Gaining backstory and perspective from the man Jake, instead of the gunman Wax, it’s not long before we start rooting for him and Ursula’s relationship. He doesn’t see her as fragile as her family does- she hauled him up a mountain and saved his life! She sees his true character because she got to know him before knowing his past. And together they’re brave.
I know others have said this can be read as a stand alone, but I honestly recommend reading this series in order. There’s so much that won’t make sense if you pick up book three on its own. Almost everything needs the context of the other books to be fully appreciated. In that respect, this is a wonderful conclusion. All the loose ends from the other two are tied up and the epilogue is especially rewarding.
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley and my opinions are my own.
I have to admit, I have waited several months for this book! And it was worth it! Her Secret Song is the third book in a series, and it is just as exciting as the other books! Ursula has been on the top of a mountain for her whole life, afraid to go anywhere because of the warnings from her grandmother. She spends an entire winter alone, and discovers she hates being alone. She decides to go down after a while, but when she does, she finds a badly injured man. She helps him up to her winter home and helps him while he heals. She doesn't know the man is a dangerous one that has a terrible reputation. He's a known gunman named Wax Mosby. Wax, whose true name is Jake, thinks he has been rescued by an angel from Heaven. As they grow to know one another, they start having feelings for each other, then they are discovered by her sister and her brother in law. Jake surrenders his guns and goes with them to talk to the Warden family, since Jake has had such an experience that he has chosen to turn his life completely around. There are people out to get the Warden ranch, and they try to figure a way to win without a gunfight. Can they do it? Excellent story I highly recommend! But I definitely recommend reading the first two books as well!
Her Secret Song
by Mary Connealy
Back of the Book: “After a rough winter spent alone, Ursula Nordegren realizes she must overcome her fears of the outside world and begins a trek down Hope Mountain.
And they're joined by Ursula's sisters and the Warden family as the final showdown over the family ranch looms with the coming of spring.”
Impressions: This is the third and final book to the Brides of Hope Mountain series. I did not like the second book to this series and I was weary of this book. I was pleasantly surprised though. Ursula’s character was not as strange to me throughout this book. She remained true to her character but she showed growth.
Liked: I liked Wax, Jake, in this book. He was humble and I found him well suited for Ursula.
Disliked: I didn’t care for the Warden men in the previous books and continued my dislike for them in this book. They seem to be too controlling and arrogant.
Learned: Gods grace is powerful.
Quotes: “He felt Satan pushing him, stirring his anger, feeding his hate. Turning his thoughts to God, he prayed for a peaceful heart.” – Can you be proud of a fictional character? Because I am.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here.
I have read all 3 books in this series and this final “ending” is by far the best one. The author weaves the lives of 3 sisters into each of these books; one book for each of the sister’s adventures and marriage. Fighting gun slinging bad guys, dangerous animals and an uNforgiving climate make up the bulk of the adventure. The reader will not be bored! I loved this series and would recommend it to anyone, of any age.
