Not exactly what I expected but a funny read that was incredibly relatable to the woes of parenthood especially being a mom.
Cute and relatable for all moms. There was a nice balance of the funny, bittersweet, and frustrating sides of motherhood.
Since becoming a mother, I have been searching for honest books about motherhood.
Mumlife by Paula Kuka (@common_wild) is the book that fit this description. The book is honest, hilarious, and kind. The book discusses various topics such as taking care of children, sleepless nights, long days, and short years and also has cartoons to go with the text.
The author assured that when it comes to parenting we are all in the same boat, with similar fears, frustrations, and joys. Therefore, we have to be kind to other parents and less judgmental. The highlights of the book are sincere cartoons about parenting mischiefs.
This was a fun and relatable little book for moms! Paula's down to earth and honest representations were pretty spot on! It was a quick read but provided some much needed laughter! A great reminder that as mothers we all struggle, but also are wonderfully blessed.
I follow the author's comics on social media and enjoyed seeing them all together in this book. Kuka captures the many aspects of motherhood in a relatable (and funny!) way. This would be a great book to give as a gift.
Cute book about motherhood with some stories thrown in. The way it comes across in digital form is a bit hard to read though so I skipped some pages.
This book was super good. It was super original and I flew through it. It didn't feel like anything I've read in the past. Can't wait to read more from the author!! This book was unputdownable.
The short essays and cartoons in the book gave a realistic view of current motherhood, very good for not feeling alone in your battles or worries. I expected the book to have more humor, but it wasn't so much funny to me as reassuring that other moms have the same stresses and concerns while still loving their kids.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was cute and relatable as a mom of two young children! I really enjoyed the art style, and the mix of personal feelings, anecdotes, and a less personal look at *all* moms versus just her own experience. There was also a nice balance of funny, bittersweet, and frustrating stories.
Mumlife: Witty and Pretty Musings on (the Truth about) Motherhood by Paula Kuka is a collection of essays and illustrations that talk about motherhood in all its joy and messiness. Kuka, creator of the popular Instagram account Common Wild, takes the illustrations and add her thoughts and frustrations that come from being a mother. Undoubtedly taking joy in the time with her small children, she also admits to the exhaustion, anxiety, and loneliness that comes with mothering too.
As a mother of a toddler, I can relate wholeheartedly to trying to plan a fun art activity for my child only to find it took longer to set it up than it took for my toddler to do it. Or what happens whenever I have something to eat. Kuka's seagull illustration is spot on. She is also spot on on the joy and sadness of watching your child become more independent.
This is an honest and funny look at what it means to mother now, what expectations are placed on women, no matter if the are working full-time, part-time or anywhere in between. Give this to your friends and family and find the mom friend you were always hoping to find, the one who totally understand what is going on and feels exactly the same about it all.
