I'm not keto but I'm always looking to reduce carbs. I loved having access to delicious options for the holidays.
Thanks to Netgalley and Callisto Media for the chance to read and review, "Keto Celebrations" by Mary Alexander. Sticking to a diet or even a lifestyle change can be so challenging in general, but especially during the holidays and times of celebration. Most people tend to associate these times in life with food. This cookbook makes it easier than ever to stay on track, The recipes are a great! The steps are easy to follow.. I would highly recommend this for anyone trying to celebrate with food in a healthier way.
Wow....you had me at the cover! Sensational looking recipes with a keto touch. Author gives us some beautiful pictures and some delicious looking recipes.
What did I like? Definitely loved this book and bookmarked way too many pages. I’ve always been a fan of the keto diet, mostly because you can still stick with foods you love. You just have to mix up some ingredients a bit. This cookbook has some recipe favorites that will blow your mind for just about every celebration.
Would I buy or recommend? I would love a copy but it definitely needs more pictures. I like to look at food and one picture per chapter was just abysmal for me. Still this is a handy keto cookbook with celebration dinners included which is a have to have.
I received a complimentary copy to read! Four stars for keto food!
So I wanna start off by saying that I love the concept of this book. It makes life so convenient when you already know which keto recipe use for every occasion.
The picture of the butter cake with cream cheese buttercream on the cover is what instantly drew me in. There isn’t a picture for every recipe in the cover which is disappointing because there were some recipes like the baked donut bites with jelly. I wish I knew what those looked like before making them
The recipes are creative like the apricot cauliflower-rice pilaf and the cinnamon noodle kugel. I don’t know if I’d personally make them but it's nice to see recipes I’ve never seen anywhere else.
Overall it’s a good cookbook with a cool concept. I’m glad I have it and can’t wait to try out that butter cake!
I have been low carb for a long time. So, I am always looking for new cookbooks that are keto/low carb. I was excited to grab Mary Alexanders book Keto Celebrations. The things I loved about this book was things were done by meal plans and not just a slew of recipes. She even gives you meal plans for the less common holidays. And they great thing is you can pick and choose and even swap different recipes around to your liking. Now what I didn't like was the lack of pictures. To me, pictures make a huge difference in a cookbook and this is very sparse in that department.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of Keto Celebrations.
I was super excited for this book. I thought it was going to be full of yummy, sweet creations. I was wrong. Sort of. Keto Celebrations is broken down into different celebrations and has one simple menu for each meal. Easter, 4th of July, Christmas, etc. While there are a few desserts throughout the book, this isn't exactly what I was expecting.
I love that this book has a short introduction and is broken down by seasons. The photographs that are included are beautiful, but there aren't enough of them. I love photos because they show me what the food should look like when I'm unsure, and the photos that are included are of basic things- green beans, tacos, ribs. We all know what those things look like.
She does include plenty of detail and nutritional values as well as a variety of recipes. There are main courses, veggies, drinks, desserts. I haven't had a chance to try any of them yet but I'm excited to try her biscuit recipe, as well as her brownies and cakes.
I am beginning to see that all Keto books are the same. A lot of information and ever more recipe that have a lot of hard to find ingredients. Some of the dishes were good but not my favorite.
This is the best Ketogenic cookbook I have seen in a while. I already have a similar cookbook on my shelf, but it doesn't even tough this book in terms of the absolutely delicious recipes included. I just restarted my Keto journey because I have had a bad couple of years where I got of track and kind of went off the deep end and find myself at the heaviest I have ever been. I have not been happy, I don't feel comfortable and I am fed up with feeling that way so I am back on track and I wanted to to get a leg up on the holidays which is when I tend to spiral back into bad habits. There are so many delicious recipes here that I can bring to the family Thanksgiving and Christmas get togethers I won't have to feel like I am missing out on all of the good stuff! There are other celebrations covered as well, and some of these I would eat at any time during the year, celebration or not! I absolutely recommend this book to anyone on a Ketogenic or low carb diet.
This book is absolutely amazing. Easy to follow directions, gorgeous pictures, everything is divided by holidays and dish names so you can easily find exactly what you're looking for. A total winner in my book!
While I have not tried but a few recipes from this new cookbook, I can already tell it will be a favorite! I am not full keto but I do like to try to decrease the amount of carbs in my diet. This cookbook has the most creative and tasty recipes to help me do just that! Very current with the times, definitely recommend!
This is a must have for anyone following keto who doesn’t want to blow their progress for holidays and special occasions! It’s got a decent keto starter guide at the beginning, then the recipes are sorted by season/event. Really excited to try them all!
Keto Celebrations is a well written cookbook that primarily uses ingredients easily found in a well-stocked grocery store. The book is divided by holiday/occasion and has keto inspired recipes for all the “fun foods” you would normally have to pass up if you are keto. The recipes included are both savory and sweet, and include traditional holiday foods like latkes, kugel, pecan pie bars, and chocolate fudge, as well as some cocktails and happy hour foods like spicy margaritas, fried deviled eggs, and crab dip. My cousin has been keto for a year and I brainstormed with him as I read the book for all the delicious meals we’ll make for our next cousins’ weekend! This book would be a great addition to your keto cooking library or to use as inspiration for tweaking your own favorite holiday recipes to make them more keto friendly. The only reason I am rating it 4 stars rather than 5 is because I don’t like using additives like xantham gum or sugar-free syrups in my cooking - I prefer to eat whole foods that are more natural and many of the recipes call for those engineered type of ingredients.

This is a very nice keto cookbook because it has recipes for you to make during holidays and celebrations. You will find some yummy recipes for easter, father's and mother's day. 4th of July, thanksgiving, Christmas and other celebrations. I don't do the keto diet but I like some of the recipes. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
I really liked this kept cookbook, arranged around holidays and other celebrations. Each celebration has a menu with the recipe follows. One of the things I liked best about these recipes is that many of them are recipes anyone would enjoy, not just recipes adapted especially for keto.
This is something missing from so many keto cookbooks, recipes, like creamed spinach, prime rib, or guacamole, that can be enjoyed by anyone. It's especially important for celebrations where keto and non-keto folks will be feasting together.
The celebrations are arranged by season with two additional chapters, one on anytime celebrations and one for keto-friendly drinks.
With plenty of ideas for variations and recipes that suit every taste, this cookbook deserves a place on your shelf.
I've been eating keto for 3 years now and was looking for some new ideas. The recipes look so good, but the concentration is on sweets (breads, ice cream, etc.). I, typically avoid anything sweet, so this book didn't work for my lifestyle. Others that are ok with eating sweets, will probably love it!
The recipes are broken down by month/holiday, so you always have a recipe at your fingertips!!

Keto Celebrations is a tutorial and resource guide plus recipe collection by Mary Alexander. Due out 14th July 2020 from Callisto on their Rockridge Press imprint, it's 232 pages (for the print copy) and available in paperback and ebook formats (ebook is available now). It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.
The introduction covers the basics of keto cooking and essential accessories as well as an intro to the keto lifestyle/diet, including a basic primer on ketosis, macronutrients, tips, ingredients, tools, supplies, and how-to. The following chapters include the recipes arranged roughly by calendar year: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season includes numerous celebratory holidays and mealtimes like Easter, Cinco de Mayo, Father's Day, Rosh Hashanah, Hallowe'en, Thanksgiving, all the 'major' American holiday highlights as well as a fair number of others which are part of the LatinX, Jewish or other calendars. I found the recipes inclusive and varied.
Ingredient measurements are supplied in American standard only. There's no conversion chart for metric measures included. The nutritional information: fat, carbs, protein, fiber content, macronutrients, etc are listed for the recipes as well as serving sizes. Each recipe has a header with special labels such as nut-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, with a short description of the recipe and approximate prep-times. Extra tips or recipe alternatives are listed in text boxes in the recipes. The recipes themselves are fairly straightforward and are made for the most part with easily sourced ingredients (not all though, sweeteners for example, will likely need to be sourced from specialists). Many are very simple, none of them are overly complex.
The photography is not abundant; most of the recipes are not illustrated, but the photographs which are included are clear and well done. I wish there had been more photographs and serving suggestions, but I do understand that extra photography increases the price of book projects very quickly and the lack is not crippling because this is a fairly simple recipe collection.
This is a nice and varied collection of recipes and even allowing for the fact that some of them are very similar to others in the same category, this will keep keto-cooks going for ages. The resource list includes interactive links to a number of relevant online resources.
Four stars.
