This is the story of a woman who has lost her husband in a tragic accident. She is the the mother of three, with her oldest living on the streets. In addition to unsuccessfully searching for her missing son, she has several financial setbacks and ends up losing her home. The story is set in England, so it was interesting to learn about several of their social programs. The book had somewhat of a fairytale ending, but I found it an enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book! While it was a little reminiscent of a fairy tale nor a movie like Pretty Woman it called itself out on that and turned it into a bit of a joke which I liked. It was a fair glimpse of the dangers that gangs, drugs, and sex traffickers present and perhaps more importantly just how broken the system is. While it takes place in England the system is equally broken everywhere. The characters were compelling and the story was heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measures. The writing was good and I look forward to reading more by this offer. Angie’s life is forever changed when her husband is beaten to death by a local gang. She struggles to provide for herself and her children and slips more and more into debt until she’s at risk of losing everything including her place to live.

This book was a slow start but I kept reading and thoroughly enjoyed it! It has a great deal of drama amongst the pages and sometimes I just had to put it down and step away from it because it was drawing me into the daily life of this family and I just wanted to help. Luckily, a shining knight stepped it and gave assistance to them.

I loved the way this was written. I cant imagine the difficulties the main character would have faced, not just financially, but emotionally as well trying to reconcile the things her son was doing and how they may have contributed to his father's death. It was an emotional read with themes of forgiveness and perseverance.

I read this book quickly. I enjoyed it. Angie is broke and trying to support herself and two children. Her third child is involved with a gang. Her husband had died previously and that is when she started the downward spiral. Although the twist in the book where her lot starts to improve was just a little to convenient, as I don't think this really would happen. Since I am not English some of the things she had to pay including universal credit, I don't understand.. Her interactions with social service rang true, so hard for people to get help at times.

This was more of a gritty crime drama than I think I was expecting. Angie Watts has three children. Her husband Steve, is brutally murdered and her oldest son Liam, has disappeared.
This is a gritty crime drama and not my usual genre. I found the content hard to read in parts but it was extremely well written and very emotional. I felt drawn to the characters and as a mother I could certainly relate to being protective of your children. 3 stars for me.

Well honestly, I didn’t love this book. I can’t quite place my finger on the reason why. I don’t know if it’s just because I could not relate to the characters in the book, although that also means the author didn’t make the characters feel relatable, or if the storyline didn’t seem realistic, but should have, or something else. A solid meh from me.

Angie has fallen on hard time. She’s heavily in debt, without a home, and her husband is dead. Things just continue getting worse, and then someone decides to treat her with kindness and things begin to look up. Luckily, this someone has money and many contacts. I enjoyed the story, but it was a bit unbelievable. I also didn’t understand the various taxes and restrictions Angie faced. That alone made me glad I live in the USA.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
It had real depth to the plot, storyline, and characters.
I felt truly invested in them, and their struggles and successes, their bad luck and good fortune, their fears and joys, as well as the sadness.
Thank you to the Publisher, Author, and BC Girls for making this book available.
This review will also be placed on Goodreads.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The premise is one I am interested in: How does a woman cope with raising children on a low wage job? And the main character, Angie, is likable, which kept my interest, I truly wanted to see how things would turn out for her.
However, there were some major flaws in the book:
1. The ending was unrealistic and adds to the Cinderella feature of much chick lit, saved by the handsome prince.
2. Angie was ALWAYS thinking of others, even when her own luck was down, she put others before herself and her family. And when her luck Turned, she thought even more about others. Maybe tone that down a little.
3. As this book was set in Britain, many of the tax issues were not familiar to me. I have read about the TV tax before, but it could use some explanation for US readers. I was not familiar with the council tax and the whole issue of the universal credit was a complete mystery to me and I am still unsure what that is other than to assume it was especially bad for those living in poverty.
Oh, and why does every heroine always have to have red hair?

While this book wasn't what I was expecting, I did enjoy it and find it very well written. I'm not sure why it's classified as a thriller because there really isn't a lot of excitement or mystery. A large part of the book is describing Angie's trials and tribulations including her descent into poverty. The book seems to be making a social statement about how the system works more to keep people in a cycle of poverty than equipping them with the tools to climb their way out. While I did find Angie to be very likable and could empathize with her situation, the continuous focus on her financial demise felt a bit drawn out at times. Without giving anything away, the ending was not at all realistic but fun to read. I would definitely check out other books by this author. Thank you NetGalley and The Book Club Girls.

Angie is living a charmed life with her husband, Steve, when their son Liam is born. But things change as Liam grows up and is recruited into a vicious gang. Angie will lose everything she holds dear.

I have to say, I was excepting more of a thriller based on its classification, and this more definitely more women’s fiction—and a slowly moving one at that. While I did appreciate that this gives a very realistic portrayal of a descent into poverty and the struggles of that class, unfortunately, it was a bit repetitive and was somewhat of a slog to finish. That being said, I thought the writing was good and I wouldn’t hesitate to check out other books by author Susan Lewis.

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow through the Book Club Girls for the opportunity to review this copy.

Thank you NetGalley for giving me a chance to read this e-book. The book is set in England so I enjoyed reading about different lifestyles and how the characters react to that lifestyle. The story is about two sisters and how they over come outside obstacles thrown in their everyday existence. I enjoyed this book and will look for Susan Lewis other books.

This book was so poignant that at times I had to stop reading about the struggles and heartbreak one mother was experiencing. Angie has a great life that falls apart after her oldest son gets involved with a gang that ends up beating her husband to death. Her life falls apart piece by awful piece and illuminates how far a mother will go to save her family from harm.

Home Truths has a lot of profoundly hard things to process happening in it. Angie and Steve's oldest son, who struggles with developmental disorders, is lured into gang activity. Steve is murdered trying to track Liam down. Angie is up to her eyeballs in debt and is being threatened (in more than one way) by her landlord. Her daughter Grace is undertaking risky activities trying to raise money for the family. And this is all happening within the first 25 pages or so of the book - so this is not a spoiler for events happening across the book. If you're guessing that things have to get worse before they get better, you'd be on the mark with this story. In stressful pandemic, economical and other times, Angie's financial woes made me paranoid and I'm nowhere close to her circumstances. This book definitely serves as a reminder that there are good people out there that are in bad situations through no fault of their own, though if you're not in a good place mentally, emotionally and financially this book isn't likely to take you to a happy place. Thankfully (and maybe almost a little too easily) Angie has people in her life that realize she's a good person that's just in need of a little help, friends, and a shoulder to cry on to help her work her way out of trouble, and possibly reconnect with her oldest son again.

This book dealt with so many things that I am familiar with I found comfort here. The unusual piece was the number of resourceful people that seemed to eventually come out of the woodwork. Family loyalty is valued as are friendships, truth, and hard work. This is a story tv series are made of!

Home Truths grabbed my attention from the 1st page & I didn’t put it down till the last page. I read it in 1 day. The storyline was very well developed & the characters were authentic.. It’s a great story of the good over the evil. It delved into many topics such as drugs, gangs, homelessness, sex trafficking, mental illness, eviction, & more. It was romance, funny, sad & full of surprises. . I’m going to read more of Susan Lewis’s books & recommend It to anyone that wants to escape into a great story

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the Book Club Girls for this ARC. I started this book after I got bogged down in the book I was reading. This one was better and it kept my interest, even though as the book went on it was hard to see what Angie, who was a very appealing character, went through to keep her family safe. Unfortunately, I read the reviews on Netgalley and someone posted a spoiler which kind of spoiled the end for me.
